Well really they should package better..I had this same thing going on with my recently RMA'd hopper. Sent it back as it had similar symptoms as those you describe. Glad you've got things resolved!
Of course, we can't prove anything, but, I can TOTALLY believe that the hoppers indeed will experience some high g-forces as they are thrown from pile to pile at the postal depots. It's not BS, IMO. The thing is that it should be designed to withstand that type of handling.
Not the first time they've claimed transit issues, packaging for RMAs is typically quite poor from HL. New units are much better protected.
It partially depends how it's received by HL, I sent it packaged in its box once, now I just send it as is and it's returned as is.
Once I even received the padded envelope stripped where it had obviously jammed a conveyor. Still got months of good use out of the hopper, but that was lucky on multiple fronts.
Today marks over a month since getting my current unit with all the latest components. I'm still waiting on RMAs since December.
I do look forward to getting them back, but I'm already spoiled for choice when it comes to vaping.
I can say from my end that it's easily worthwhile enduring the bullshit - at least until the ultra convenience that the device should offer is matched by competing product/s.
