Discontinued The Grasshopper

My M milks bubblers, but I also have the 2018 with better airflow. I haven't used a Hopper so I have no direct comparison, but I do know that it work's 100% of the time. Availability is the best ability in my book.
You do know there is a Dynavap thread right? You're comparing apples to oranges, Hopper is a battery powered electronic pure convection vape. The M is an externally powered, non regulated conduction vape, there's a huge difference in function and experience from them both if you're not aware. Effects are subjective from user to user so I'm not going to tell you what you like best but in my experience the vapcaps come no where even close to the vapor quality of a hopper. The hopper design is much more advanced in all aspect than any other vape on the market, to expect a zero percent failure rate at any point throughout it's existence is simply unrealistic. Hope you get to try one out soon and then you'll get some user experience under your belt, cheers!

I thought we're all comparing apples to oranges on FC. I'm fully aware of the difference between butane/electricity, convection/conduction, used both to vape over the last 10 years and of course I know there is a Dynavap thread but someone mentioned it in here and I like to compare vapes. There's a vape for every situation. I don't think there is a problem doing that in here. If I started this comparison over there, what kind of feedback would they give me about the Hopper? They would tell me to come here . Thanks to posting in here, I now know the M will be shit in the snow so I can avoid that. I'm not saying the Vapcap is better than the Hopper, I'm clearly ruffling feathers so let's make that clear, I'm saying that it works best for me right now. Like I said I still want a Hopper, I'm just not sticking with my order while this backup happens because I have no idea what is going on with the company and don't want to lose money if they are going under.

@butts How can you compare the two if you haven't tried the Hopper yet? Not ruffling feathers but definitely not adding much to the conversation. People have been speculating and will continue to speculate that the company is going under since this thread started. It's the best portable on the market, it's not going anywhere. :)

Well, I've not been here for a looong time, as my pre-order Hopper is still going strong (praise Odin).

Despite working flawlessly, I've always felt that the Hopper was missing one major feature, WOOD:

G7FhBsk.jpg

03Q5vLL.jpg

So I made myself these.
They're Teak, and a total b@~tard to machine.
I had to make a 'rolling carriage' for the bed of my lathe, as my drill-press only extends 50mm, no-where near enough to bore a hole the entire depth of the GH.

It worked, but I borked the fancy drill-bit I bought especially for the task (by forcing it into teak end-grain repeatedly , kept stalling my 370Watt lathe too!, which can't be good for it?)

Clearances are REALLY tight, as I wanted it to be as small as possible.
Failure happened more than success :uhoh:

Never mind, it was worth it.

I really liked my cheap plastic caddy from kfirrer:rip:, but I like to think this adds a little bit more class

I originally had plans to make some for sale, but the difficulty level, and tool attrition would almost certainly make them un-sellably expensive :bang: ( as compared to the price of other dugouts/stashes I've seen/owned )

I am interested though what folk here would consider a fair price for something like this?

Is this even something which interests you?
Or are you all already rocking fancy cases?

Any news about this project?

Any news about this project?
I made another couple of caddies before my drill bit became completely ruined, so I have 5 now.
I experimented with some small cosmetic changes (not the bolt I'm afraid, although I may be able to set the head a little deeper on one so I could 'plug' the bolt hole with another material ) and I'll try to get a pic of them posted.
I'd love to make these for sale, but I can't work out how to make any kind of profit without the price being unreasonably high.
Having said that, I'm currently unemployed, and still need to pay bills, so I'd certainly consider selling one or two of my spares at a loss, just to recoup some of my costs.
If you're interested in buying one, PM me so we can discuss a price?

mods, does this mean I have to register as a 'manufacturer'? :science:

They said they are only in warranty requests from mid November. LOL. Guess I’ll see my hopper in November.

That is VERY disappointing...wow. mid-Nov...and no indication of the rate at which they are clearning their backlog. I guess I may see my end of Feb RMA sometime before the end of 2018! haha

I have been using my SB Jr in place of the GH for those late pain sessions and my morning CBD flower session. Fulfills pretty much the same niche....quick, reasonable load size, fast and strong extraction.

I would like my GH back...but I'm not pining for it.

Cheers

Yeah, I've been using my Mighty and my Cloud. I miss my hopper, but it's been so long without it, I don't even really remember it's power anymore.

I'd just like to know they haven't forgotten about me or my hopper yet. This is very discouraging.

I haven't gotten a reply to my request for a shipping label in ~16 days. Last reply I got took about a month.

Was coming here to say i've contacted support@gh 8 days ago, and still no reply, and to ask when should i start to worry if there's anybody home at all..
but i see it's standard operating procedure and i've been assured it's all above board and that the company is doing well so i'm not worried anymore.

you could say i have faith now aha
reminds me of a saying 'laugh, so you don't cry'.

Hi all, as I mentioned in a previous post, my Oct 17 hopper is mostly functional and even occasionally fully operational. I’m super picky, but have learned not to be with this amazing device.

That said, I recently ordered both a Fury 2 and and GH backup with the GH being only around $150 for the SST during the March sale. I received my Fury 2 and have started a brief love affair, but need to stay on topic.

I guess I’m on the fence as to if I let my March hopper order ride until X, or cancel and just stick with my current regime. With a mostly working hopper, Fury 2, and M it seems as if I may have all my basis covered? Of course it is ultimately up to me, but I have always valued this community’s opinion since a very long time ago. You could say I caught hopper madness from reading hundreds of pages which is why I paid a 100% markup on eBay back in early 2016.

Hopper works 2/3 of the time well, meaning no flashing blue lights, no back heat, and 2-3 loads per batt. However those times where all of the above is in the opposite direction just has me, well, nervous that I COULD be without a hopper.

So, I guess if you guys were perfectly happy with your lineup but we’re worried about being without a hopper, would you keep your hoppper order in queue or cancel and just be content?!

I'm probably biased since I got my first fully functional hopper but I say wait. I think it's worth it.

Old & In the Way
When are these cases getting released?
The SS case delivery was mentioned in their most recent HL update, where they said it (and the charger) would have to be revised to "second quarter, '18". Website still says Estimated Ship Time "March".
We should start a pool.
Or at least a poll on who thinks which will come first, case or fancy high-speed charger...
My money is literally on the case; I order TWO during the 35% off promotion!

My buddy just received his new Electric Blue Grasshopper, ordered from the 10/2017 promotion. It arrived with a few other items he had ordered, including a PFE and some spare batteries. He's ecstatic and says after the first session that it performs as well as his model acquired in September.

I want to include in my report that my friend uses his Grasshopper as his main driver, but only partakes a few times a week. He uses it by himself or with a friend (2 at the most). He takes a significant effort to keep the herb chamber clean. As far as my experiences go with his "new design" Hopper, it seems to promise as delivered. He doesn't go past 4, as he prefers to do his vaping under 190C. I don't know how many others who post here have had a "new design" Hopper since Fall 2017, but that is my personal experience with it's reliability.

I'm still having a "wait and see" approach to buying one, as I am considering waiting up to a year to see if Hopper Labs remains in business and can truly mend their reputation. I don't need a Hopper but like many of you I've discovered there is nothing else like it!

I just hope I get my hopper back before they fold. I can't imagine people are lining up to buy these things. I definitely can't recommend it to anyone.

If by the end of the year there is a reliable Hopper available I think they'll hit it big time.

I suspect they are probably only running at a low production rate while the initial batch gets field tested.

There are probably outlets out there with orders placed on the proviso that HL's can show the next few batches have a lower failure rate than prior to on sourcing. If HL get it right this time round they won't just have a good device out there, they will have a high performing stealth vape which fulfils a niche in the market. <insert praying/please don't fuck it up emoji>

They probably need new Hoppers in the wild to prove device reliability in order to achieve those orders and encourage more. That and fine tuning the in house processes explains the RMA delay.

I wouldn't count them out just yet, someone is funding them through this bump. No way did their previous sales cover the cost of BAU + in sourcing.

Assuming they are being funded they could afford to take the rest of the year to resolve manufacturing issues, resolve RMA process and begin marketing.

I'm not saying the device doesn't have room for improvement or that HL have acted impeccably throughout their growing pains. The RMA delay is a shitty move to customers like me and its a red stain on the company but I'd say the sales they have made so far is small fry compared to the sales they will make with a decent reliable device and a marketing campaign.

If this new batch prove reliable HL will be screaming down main street with their windows down and their system up. :rockon:If reports get out that failure rates are still out of acceptable limits and they haven't got a solution then they'll probably need to pawn their cars.:rip:

I for one am hoping the engineers succeed and the Hopper blows up big time.....:hmm: I mean HL's blows up big time :ugh: ....ahem... I mean I hope its a success story. I want my life time warranty and my ultra portable pen vape that kicks me in the brain every time.

Olivia just responded to me

Hi Joe,

My apologies I had not replied, I was out of the office. I can have your Grasshopper sent out today.

Kind regards,

Olivia

Hopefully its not an empty promise. Still saying processed but I'm not sure how much of an indicator that is. I must say that I'm getting excited though:rofl::lol:

The device is amazing, but I agree with this sentiment. The headwinds for the company appear severe: with at least a six month backlog of repairs, limited income, and the inability of management to directly and clearly address communication issues, the prospects of long term viability aren't exactly glowing. If I ever need to RMA my hopper, I wouldn't do it until they work through these current challenges.

Depends if you have fire or not. I find torches to be unreliable and have been out and about not realizing that there wasn’t enough butane in my torch. I could easily use a candle or Bic lighter but that takes a crap load of more time to get the cap up to temp. Almost makes me want to roll one up instead. Totally annoying.
