Discontinued The Grasshopper

The device is amazing, but I agree with this sentiment. The headwinds for the company appear severe: with at least a six month backlog of repairs, limited income, and the inability of management to directly and clearly address communication issues, the prospects of long term viability aren't exactly glowing. If I ever need to RMA my hopper, I wouldn't do it until they work through these current challenges.

I agree on the headwinds. The delays in the charger and the case suggest (to me — pure conjecture) a cash flow issue. I can’t believe the design or the implementation of the design are that complex.

^^^this, it’s my ultimate fear that they don’t sustain. I want a backup hopper in case I can’t ever get one again which is why I’m sticking with my order for Hopper #2. Odd because I have one that functions pretty darn good. Of course I get my 2nd hopper and they still end up in trouble, where would i purchase batteries In about a year?! Very bad logic.

I agree with @GreenHopper about them being funded, or I at least hope so. Their current rma backlog alone seems untenable otherwise.

Fear combined with impatience does funny things to my small brain.

Even though I am waiting for my Grasshopper to be returned, at this point I would experience a high level of schadenfreude if the company folds. Its karma. Their recent "35% off sale" appears to me to be a dishonest attempt at another round of crowdfunding. The company has displayed a continued dishonesty in its marketing and promotions.

I want to include in my report that my friend uses his Grasshopper as his main driver, but only partakes a few times a week. He uses it by himself or with a friend (2 at the most). He takes a significant effort to keep the herb chamber clean. As far as my experiences go with his "new design" Hopper, it seems to promise as delivered. He doesn't go past 4, as he prefers to do his vaping under 190C. I don't know how many others who post here have had a "new design" Hopper since Fall 2017, but that is my personal experience with it's reliability.
This is exactly my usage and experience with my Halloween 2017 repaired hopper.

Olivia just responded to me

Hi Joe,

My apologies I had not replied, I was out of the office. I can have your Grasshopper sent out today.

Kind regards,

Olivia

Hopefully its not an empty promise. Still saying processed but I'm not sure how much of an indicator that is. I must say that I'm getting excited though:rofl::lol:
So, when did you order that Hopper?

Not cash flow, capacity. If not 100% real close to it of the grasshopper is now built in Boulder, not assembled, but manufactured. They pushed back on accessories because staff is building vapes

I just hope I get my hopper back before they fold. I can't imagine people are lining up to buy these things. I definitely can't recommend it to anyone.

My sentiments exactly. It took them 1 full year to send me my pre-ordered GH which should have arrived about 3 mo. after I ordered. Don’t know when I’ve been more disappointed. It really put a bad taste in my mouth but the straw that broke the camel’s back was the short life of their proprietary batteries. I now use the DV vapcap only, so I need to sell my GH, which I only tried to use about 5 times. Like everybody else I guess, I got an email from GH this morning with more bad news. Seems never-ending.

I always wondered how people could/ can defend this company’s track record until I got one. Then I understood it even more when I was without one. A working hopper is _________! I sure hope they stick around for a while.

Just got done from a 30 second walk around my house ripping about .03g of nice Silverback in 2 monster rips at 5. This is why I covet my hopper. I medicate for 2 herniated discs and need my Cannabis to stay away from opiates. With my medical card, my pain is mitigated to the point where I can walk without a hunch and don’t need that other shit. I finally got my life back thanks to this plant, so crazy that pills are more accepted and easy/legal.

Anyway, I have a couple of kids ages 10 and 13. I must be very fast and ultra discreet as to avoid smell and being “missed” for too long. I absolutely love my Fury 2, M, (and Haze dual I guess) for variety and unique signature, but when shit has to get down to business I reach for “the pen” as my wife calls it.

My hopper works but not as quick to heat up or as hot as it should be on 5. Still love the bitch and looking forward to my March 2 SST order. Is it true that the SST has a different signature than the Ti due to heat retention and a touch of conduction with the SST?

I recieved the hopper update on my email. Not sure what’s going on with the company? I hope everything is on the up and up far as the stability of the company goes. Just a couple months ago they were trying to get folks to preorder Hoppers again. Before that, they had risen the cost of the hopper and were trying to sell accessories that weren’t available yet.

After 2 years and only a backend issue, i think it's time for my Hopper to go to Colorado trip for check what's going wrong.... It seems i combust even if i'm not on max temp, Do i need to test (waste?!) more with my 5 battery and different load size or can i already open a ticket on Hopper's website??

I don't want to send it back in US (i'm in EU) without to be sure than this issue is covered by the warranty .... I don"t want to heard than my Hopper "working fine" in Hopper's labs and they sent me the same SS .... What do you think guys & girls?

Thanks for your point of view !!

They will definitely fix the problem, how long you will be waiting is a totally different ball game. If you can turn it down to a point that works for you I'd keep it until they have worked their way through the backlog of warranty work and new orders.

Is it better than no hopper?

If that isn't a warranty case what else? But you have to be a clairvoyant to know THEIR answer.
:ko:, yeah but maybe someone already have this issue and can tell me how was Hopper's labs solution ?! Well i think i'm going to do more bowl this week-end to be sure and start a RMA next week...:science:
edit: i only use my GH through water, dial 4.2 or more

when you see this, http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/the-grasshopper.18482/page-752#post-1175611 , scared me a bit ... @kbrown5523 do you send back your GH ? what Hopper Labs told you about this combustion?

Why wouldn't they fix it. They have gone to all this effort to try and improve their reliability, they won't just throw an old unit back out there. Even hl not that stupid.

Probably it's a sensor damage or it's just dirty so the sensor can't properly work anymore. They'll repair it but you have currently to wait a long time before getting it back - or not if GHL should die up to then. You could try it yourself with compressed air hoping that will solve the issue.

Good idea, i will try this solution before, thanks !!

I can believe that a lot (most) of the Hopper's internals are now made in-house, but things like the body, the clicker, even the clip, I'm skeptical about your assertion on those. That type of metal manufacture requires some heavy duty machinery, presses, etc. From the reports in the recent 'transparency' laden newsletters, it was mainly one component from an un-cooperative vendor that was the biggest problem, and it was that component they brought in-house.
You're also making it sound like HL intends to manufacture the charger and SS case in Boulder facility as well, and the current staff is just too busy to do those processes. This, to me is a thin argument. The pitch on HL website re; SS case is that it took 2 years to design this little marvel and so, we assumed, it was nearly ready to rock 'n roll. It's delays kinda predate the factory re-vamp, so I can't readily accept that it's anything other than a financial decision to delay it's roll out.

Is it true that the SST has a different signature than the Ti due to heat retention and a touch of conduction with the SST?
I have one of each, and my opinion is that variation in Hopper's output, while it certainly does exist, is more random from any one to the next, not really based on the type of housing.
The main differences SS to Ti are a matter of heft, visual and tactile factors. Sure, one may transfer heat a little faster and cool down a little faster/slower, though I don't think these factors are major influences on actual output or 'signature'.
But it is fun to be able to say, "Hey, this thing is fucking Titanium!" as if it were a Rolex.

Just a couple months ago they were trying to get folks to preorder Hoppers again. Before that, they had risen the cost of the hopper and were trying to sell accessories that weren’t available yet.
Even today, ordering a Hopper from HL is a pre-order, they are not shipping out of inventory. And they're certainly still selling accessories that are not available yet.

HL apparently has a big backlog of units already in house waiting to be repaired. We think they are making progress, but If you send yours now it almost certainly will not be turned around quickly. Better to wait until they are back on track, in my opinion.

I made an error when I posted earlier in the thread.

When I posted them I called these Teak.
I was thinking of some other VapCap stashes I'm working on, they are Teak.
These are Mahogany, not Teak, which is the main reason they've been so hard to machine.

I've made six so far.
I sold one local, and would like to offer some of the remaining ones for sale.
Since I have no presence on FC as a manufacturer, and since these are my first versions, I'm going to keep the cost low for these 5 (DM me for the price, which will be less than I hope to sell future ones for)

I've made a separate classified for these if you're interested (more pic's):

Whipped out my grasshopper for the first time in probably 4 months. Still hits....and VERY well. Wow I was surprised.
So...I bought this GH used in October of 2016, so it looks like we've officially made it a year and a half boys without a single warranty claim! @Shit Snacks do you know when you got it? That way I can determine the total length of this GH's life so far!
