and for companies like this preorder money is essential to keep operations running.
Id hope that they are not relying on pre order money to stay afloat. If they are they better come up with a better business plan than that or they probably won't be around to honor those lifetime warranties.

i don't get those people who don't preorder. what is the thinking? you will get it in your hands much latter and much more expensiver if waiting.

Funny I don't get people that DO preorder. Especially if there is no concrete date or even a loose estimate date when they will hit the market.

I preorder video games for my son, because he likes games that sell out. I will preorder a game because they always come out on the date specified.

No disrespect to GH and hope it doesn't come off as such...

But why preorder from a company that has stuck to NO deadlines so far?
There are people who paid YEARS ago to get them off the ground who haven't seen their units.

Imo (which doesn't mean too much) it is bad taste to keep allowing preorder when their start up campaign was adequately funded and promises weren't kept.

I will buy the GH as soon as I can add it to a cart. I do respect and anticipate the work. But am not willing to an uncompensated stock holder or investor in the company.

Not even for a 'lifetime' warranty.

My lily vaporizer was purchased less than six months ago and has a five year warranty. Triihouse is no longer in buisness as it seems...who will cover the warranty?

Yeah that's a good perspective, but people like me who missed the indiegogo campaign but would've backed were begging them to take pre order money even though there was a waitlist. For later pre orders a lot feel mislead, but I personally am greatful I was able to pre order so early and knew I was in for a lot of potential hiccups (oh April, such promise lol)

Exactly when I think of a pre-order I think of video games something a lot of us are familiar with. A new game goes up for pre- order you order it and you get it on said date not a year later.

I can understand that, about a month ago, I emailed a company and ask if I could preorder (because I missed the window) still not on the list...but the point is...

The company I would preorder with is very transparent. There is open communication.

The hold ups of said vape appear to be things that are tweaking it to get the best performance. Which I'm fine with.

The concerning thing here is that the hold up are due to failures or part problems.

I apologize in advance if this is an inaccurate assessment. But it is what seems to be happening in my eyes.

Yeah the opacity is annoying for sure, but whatever, I have other companies I follow here that more than make up for it imo, its just the nature of capitalism, so many different types of companies in this industry, part of VAS issue

Yea. But I'm poor. I'll spend my money on quality shit, but I refuse to send it to a limbo state.

If I had money to blow, I would be on every preorder list until 2025!

I think I actually anticipate the GH as much as the zion. But their tactics inspire a 'wait and see' reaction with me...While the Z has evoked a spirit of a buying frenzy.

And @Shit Snacks I would like to send a personal F**K Y** to you...you have personally had something to do with my current state of VAS...shame on you! Lol

Haha yesssss, spread the disease. VAS loves company, isn't that why we're all really here anyway? Support? Enabling? :ko:

With full disposable income though, might as well wait til everything is fully released an never pre order, still wait but pay full price for finished product. The thing with most of these pre orders is you are also saving money (that was much moreso with Zion than GH, but still)

It feels like we've reached kinda a good space, where people have enough info to pre-order or not, and GHL is focused on making a sustainable product. I think the late update was a huge mistake, but accurately communicated their current abilities. I think the failure rate is higher than admitted - waiting on my third back end now - but not crazy or there'd be a LOT more reports. Lots of hoppers delivered, we know 1) GHL is opaque and not engaging customers at the forum level as you'd expect from a modern small manufacturer, and 2) the hopper delivers dead-simple, temp-stepping, super efficient extraction, plus no need for breath control, it's the <2 min, game-changing vape many wanted.

I want it too. Really. But I'm impatient waiting for 3 day priority mail...let alone 3 years for a priority vape. I'm done with my rant though. Hopefully I will have one by 4/20 paid in full. @Shit Snacks if you can use your magic to get me on the Z preorder list, I'll preorder the GH too....Let's see how much you really want this company you speak of! :brow:

The concerning thing here is that the hold up are due to failures or part problems.

There is no doubt that they have glossed over these in order to keep a positive cash flow, but if it saved their business and allows them to perfect a cool vape then I guess there is no real harm done as long as everyone gets what was promised them eventually.

I think a lot of the frustration is around the fact that they took so long to bring this to market and then there have been lots of problems and delays, in effect all backers became beta testers. If they were more upfront about that kind of plan I am sure there would have been a lot of people that still would have come on board. For someone like me, I per-ordered in March and had my delivery delayed over-and-over again with the same promise every month, I started to feel stupid and taken advantage of.

Hey! It's been dead all around the Grasshopper recently! So sad.

Quick update, one of my batteries is lasting 2 bowls and charging and about 30 minutes. The other lasts 4 hits and charges in 30 minutes as well. Looks like I'll need to ask about them sending my ordered batteries :) I have been mostly charging with the i4, but to time how long it take to charge I use the USB Grasshopper charger.

To the debate:

Exactly when I think of a pre-order I think of video games something a lot of us are familiar with. A new game goes up for pre- order you order it and you get it on said date not a year later.

Arkham Knight would like to have a word with you.

And that's the whole issue. Pre-ordering is bunk.

I refer to the Grasshopper backers as beta testers and Pre-orders are testers for the retail units. The Grasshopper *******IS NOT A RETAIL PRODUCT******* And that's the kicker. When you can go out to a smokeshop or order it online and have it in a week is when it's retail. They haven't advertised this, and for good reason.

Another issue is that when you Pre-order games, now it's 50/50 between in-store retail and a digital game, which by the way, you can also pre-order. The Discs may run out, but I can't recall the last time there was a game that ran out of digital keys on release day. It simply cannot happen for that business.

Translate this to GHL, who has to do a little more than burn some CD's (okay... well bear with me anyway ;P).

I dunno, I've always found this debate difficult because like so much in this world it's very subjective. If you are a pre-order for the Grasshopper, look at yourself as supporting the future of a company, not buying their product. Because until it's retail, no one is really going to get to buy it.

Am I making sense? Or do I have it all wrong?

You make perfect sense...everything is subjective. BUT unlike the burning cd reference..GH apparently isn't at the burning process. They appear to still be at the programming stage. If it were just a matter of building a product that works and is proven...assembly should be theoretically simple.

Unless of course there is something I'm missing?

If it were simply a raw material shortage that would be easier to understand.

But this vape still has bugs close to an already drastically pushed back release date.

I believe there is a small scale vaporizer company in the depths of fc that had a waiting list for production, but the vape was good and they weren't flooded with returns...people line up to get the vapes, because like some luxury items, limited production and exclusivity are part of the allure.

My gut and the opacity of communications leads me to believe otherwise.

But don't get me wrong. I'm hope i'm wring as shit. I will gratefully eat my words with humble pie.

I've seen in news papers and t.v. about companies that dupe investors and break promises and make off with tons of money.

Waiting is the condom I put on to protect myself from getting shafted in situations where I feel unsure of the outcome.

I'd be willing to buy the GH blindly (without knowing how I'll like it personally) if I could just add to a cart with next day shipping.

And that's all totally fair :) Waiting is the safe thing to do for sure. I just see many people compare Grasshopper labs to a retail company and they aren't, so it's unfair to set them with that expectation. You're right, my analogy is a little off because it probably takes a lot more time to put together this device, and there are many different things which none of us really know anything about going into this piece.

I also think GHL would have jumped ship by now if they were vaporware in it for the $$$, but I don't know much about that realm.

I'll be very surprised if GHL jumps ship and runs off with the money. If that was the plan, they would've outsourced it to china, made a few thousand $20 vapes, ship them out and then tell the public that due to unforseen circumstances they had to go bankrupt, or they would just dissappear off the map.

I've learnt my lessons with previous crowdfunding campaigns and I don't plan on doing it again, but the GH is one of the few I don't regret. I've backed about 15 different kickstarters/indiegogo's, and the GHL is one of the best run crowdfunder's ive backed even with all the delays.

I'm personally very happy with backing the campaign when I did. I would've had to pay an extra $100 if I wanted to buy it today due to the price increase and the currency exchange rate. There's a risk/reward for everything, and this is no different. However, I personally feel the risk is very low, it's a matter of when you'll get it, not if.

I like to hear that. And I definetly don't think they'll run off with the money. I was just saying 'worst case'

Getting a hopper for $100 is a damn good deal.

I'm actually happy the hopper is going to be a little more expensive. That means that they exceeded their initial quality bar.

I would be okay with having to pay $250 for a new TI hopper to have the price drop back down to $199 the next year. I would purchase it at the higher in total retail price point, just to support their hard work and experience what looks like is going to be a solid vape.

My main thing has ALWAYS been the wait. But then again if I'm owed money I generally tend to track it down not wait it out.
Then again I'm from 'the streets'...

'Same time man, I don't know you!'

Edit: building rapport with your supporter base with an 'insiders feel' on progress and production is NOTHING but a plus.
