I ordered in Oct 15. I got an email from them recently about it should be sent Jan 16/ the thin g is, my backup temo max x2 is not working, so I am stuck. I feel like cancel the gh and get an arizer or davinci. Do you fee January us realistic for me? What temp options are there if u think I should wait. I don't have money for both an arizer and gh.

As a déc 2013 backer with still no GH, I'd say no.
But I think you should wait. That GH is COMPLETELY différent than the arizer. I prefer a fast, stealthy, classy, stainless steel vape than a slow session vape.

GH for bong hits and for stealthy outdoors use. but there is something addictive about Arizer sessions. chill by de grill, and cool by ze pool. :)

I think the failure rate is higher than admitted - waiting on my third back end now

Agree. I'll be sending this one back again for another faulty back end as well.

I like the unit overall though.

With games or CD's, it seems like they normally start out at the ceiling and come down over time. Not the other way around like with Gh. I bit, & added a couple more units to my order at the $135 price. That's pretty low.

As far as the Grasshopper vape is concerned all I am waiting for is a solid two weeks of good reports with little or no failures. I check FC and Reddit almost everyday for recent negative grasshopper reports. I must admit I am a bit shocked and overwhelmed by the failure reports, many users have even suffered multiple failures. As soon as this changes, if it ever does, I will be getting a grasshopper vape, but not before then. I was in on the Cera debacle and had six returns under my belt when I finally gave-up on the vape. This grasshopper situation has a very eerie feeling of déjà vu all over it.

Here's the way I see it:

Backers = alpha test userbase

Pre-orders = beta test userbase

I'm a pre-order and I'm not surprised to see the shipping schedule slip. I'm also unsprised about the failing units. In ideal circumstances failures will happen now, in the backer pool and be resolved by revised manufacture and design. By the time they get to fulfilling pre-orders they should have the failure rate largely under control and once it's officially released failures should be very rare.

But, as we all know, the real world is far from ideal.

Jan 01 2016 update

Hey Everyone,

We are into the new year and working on shipping the last remaining backer Grasshoppers. With the slower holiday production finished, we will be back up to capacity this coming week. January will be a busy month as we make the transition to fulfilling pre-orders, add more equipment and further increase our assembly numbers.

We are excited to be bringing PCB (printed circuit board) assembly in-house later this month. A state-of-the-art pick and place machine will put components onto circuit boards using a computer vision alignment system. Having this machine in our facility will eliminate lengthy lead times and increase circuit board reliability. This is a big step toward our goal of fast, flexible manufacturing.

While the last backers wait to receive their Grasshoppers, we have started to turn our attention to the outstanding accessories. Over the last two years we have been focused on delivery of the core unit, only spending a fraction of our time on accessory design. We are now dedicating time to the completion of the extra cases, oils-end, and water pipe adapter.

There are many challenges remaining but we are pleased to already have so many Grasshoppers out in the world. We are looking forward to getting the last ones out the door.

We’ll return on the 15th with another update.

The Grasshopper Team

pre-orders in January? wow. very hope so that open BETA testing can start. but even more so i hope that they have sorted out that back-end failure bug. otherwise they wouldn't start a mass production, would they?

If there's one thing this campaign taught me, its not to hold your breath for this thing.

That said I really hope they get all squared away this month. Although encouraging, I feel the same about this update as the last 50+ of them. Good luck GHL, hope you enjoyed your vacations... now back to work!

Kinda phased out of reading every post lately, but I was curious if I am understanding something? I feel that a general theme seems to be that those who take their batteries out and charge them externally, generally seem to experience less issues, especially with the back-end? While those that use the charger that clicks onto the back, are those most likely to get an issue?

Just seems to be a very common scenario I see.

it looks like it. same reports in Facebook and Reddit. those who external charge have better working Hoppers.

me personally, i will external charge for convenient cordless use. don't like any strings attached while vaping. i better change a battery when it is drained.

Quick update gang...my gh still pumps like it did in oct when I got it!! Still 4-5 bowls per battery...still used 4-5 times per day...still gunking up my glass like a champ!:D

Edit: cera ll and eo still champin it out too!;)

Interesting. One of my batteries just barely lasted one bowl on temp 4 and temp 5 three times. I am charging through an i4 following the manuals suggestion to charge multiple small batteries to help preserve them. Oh well, I should have more batteries on the way soon.

Mine seem to be dying and charging very very quickly. I can tell in the VB that the batteries may not be enough to power the heater. 2 batteries on the i4 charged in 25 minutes today. Proceeded to use one, and the above experience happened :p I think I may make it a pseudo-desktop until the new batteries arrive (luckily I don't use it on the go much), especially if both batteries start only lasting one chamber.

Edit: I put the Grasshopper on the charger with a dead battery at 12:38 and it flashed blue at exactly 12:58. 20 minutes. :(

Moment of silence please....(queue bass line)

The one I'm using bit the dust today. :rip:

It would immediately go to blue when turned on, not heat up, then shut off. This happened after it started getting hot, the lights started acting crazy again, & the clicker started to feel loose and awkward.

Oh well. Sending it back for the 2nd time.

Definitely love reading stories like ShayWhiteGrow's. Encouraging!

I would hate to have to tote six batteries around a day...what size are they?
you can bring a charger with you. USB power sources are everywhere. and if not- buy a power bank. more convenient than 6 batteries to carry around, IMO.
