@Beefcake@420Eng could tell you, but then he'd have to kill you, faster than any materials will
It also has ceramic inside. Its just a ss casing around it.That's what I read but I hoped to have a little more details. How does that compare to a ceramic heating element that is used in most other logs?

Is that to help protect the ceramic heating element from the balls? Or are there other advantages to that design? If you are willing to share...It also has ceramic inside. Its just a ss casing around it.
I don't think I have ever had this problem. I am not sure what you mean by browning and tunneling, but it sounds like you want the duff to be an even color? Mine is always completely even in the Couchlog, even at low temps. It doesn't bother me if it is not all one color, but it always is when I inspect the duff.cannot get a big clean hit to save my life. By clean I mean no browning or tunneling
Tunneling as in a dark brown "spot" just in the middle of the load usually going from the very top of the load to the very bottom, if it's a really bad tunneling. This can happen with too fast a draw or too tight a pack. And browning, yes, I'm looking for a much much more even colored top of load. It's not a little brown colored, it's definitely too much, affecting flavor. I think browning is caused by too slow a draw, but that's just a guess on my part. I mean it seems logical that since a to fast draw tunnels your breath to the middle, that a too slow draw would kinda mean the opposite, so that's my best guess, lol.I am not sure what you mean by browning and tunneling
Yeah, that is what I thought you were saying. That sucks and doesn't match my experience at all.Tunneling as in a dark brown "spot" just in the middle of the load usually going from the very top of the load to the very bottom, if it's a really bad tunneling. I really don't know where to turn from here. If my theory on too slow a draw is correct then I'm at a loss where my breath speed should be, because I don't think I have a breath speed that's in between the tunneling and the over browning. I don't know, I'm sure I'm screwing up somewhere, just can't figure out where.
As if on cue, I write something long and embarrassing, and now I'm having one of my best sessions with it, lol. It's only on level 3, but I'll take it for now. Knock on wood.Yeah, that is what I thought you were saying. That sucks and doesn't match my experience at all.
Any other folks seeing this kind of thing? Tunneling and whatnot?
Awesome! I was thinking it. If I go native I usually have it down about 4.3 and it browns up but I've never had anything drastic. Glad you found the spot!As if on cue, I write something long and embarrassing, and now I'm having one of my best sessions with it, lol. It's only on level 3, but I'll take it for now. Knock on wood.
Is that naturally occurring? What kind of wood would that be? It's not really spalted, so what produces that?
Its naturally occuring kingwood, this piece includes part of the sapwood and part of the heartwood, which have differing appearances. Is that naturally occurring? What kind of wood would that be? It's not really spalted, so what produces that?

And many "domestic" hardwoods, too.AFAIK, plenty of exotic woods can have a similar feature. Cocobolo, rosewood, bubinga and even ebony can have similar contrasts.
Any burl woods would be a good option.Talking woods...any wishes for the next batch? ordering woods soon and can look whats available to do some specials
