You can use dosing caps anytime you want. I use dosing capsules in my mighty, plenty and i will also begin using with my volcano I just recieved my volcano reducer today. I like caps alot, with s&b loading kit I load 40 caps in 10 mins, pop them in out in and out as I need it, keeps everything super clean in chamber compared to filling bowl directly. No extraneous grinding, no stinky fingers keeps fingers clean, you can control your dosage better too. I have quite a few devices but I use more s&b stuff just because of the great vapor and convenience of dosing caps. But I dont recommend if you have dexterity issue.

We might need a Crafty+ thread?

100%!

Edit: Trying to get one started.. it's up to the mods since I don't have the ability to start a new thread in a Vape Forum. Then again, the Crafty(-)? is now discontinued as well right?

It is an odd name change. Will the crafty come in two flavors down the road? Super+, etc. There is definitely a long term naming and release schedule.

The whole Crafty pass-through charging discussion seems to be a gong show everywhere lately . For the sake of clarity here, let's equate pass-through charging as being able to plug in and use the vape, as others have done (including Austyn in the video above). The Vapelife forum Crafty thread has the wrong information on this if anyone who is a member there wishes to correct it.

Yes, the original Crafty has pass-through charging; there's been lots of internet acknowledgement of this and it's been a listed feature of the vape for a long time. The one caveat is that the Crafty battery has to be at 20% charge for pass-through charging to work on it; this is because the Crafty heater power requirements are higher than the micro USB battery charging circuit is capable of. Hence the need for a bit of a battery reserve to use the vape. Essentially the electrical wall outlet power is no longer used to charge the battery and instead used to run the vape (plus a bit of battery power). I own a Crafty and have used the pass-through charging a number of times (plugged in use with a low battery) when I had forgotten to recharge the unit and went to use it. And I've done it enough times to have come up against and flirted with the 20% minimum battery charge requirement.

And it very much sounds like the Crafty+ is the same thing and has pass-through charging. The discussion starts around 14:30. @stickstones in the video above mentions that he can turn the Crafty+ on while plugged in and it the vape runs; that's pass-through charging. He also mentions the battery stops charging at that point by observing the app information in real-time. This makes sense because, like the original Crafty, the similar/same micro USB charging circuit on the Crafty+ is not powerful enough to directly power the vape as well as charge the battery "at the same time". Thus, it sounds to me from the dialog that a low battery Crafty+ can be plugged in and used, and that's pass-through charging (likely with the same 20% battery minimum requirement). In the end, it doesn't matter that the app says the battery is no longer charging and it's not relevant to determining or identifying pass-through charging. @stickstones, thx for contributing information and feedback on the use of these vapes ... this is my understanding of the pass though charging topic and your experience. What are your thoughts? And thx for any feedback .

Hi, @CANtalk , I pretty much agree with all of your explanation about the function of Crafty's pass thru charging.
For my use during the time I had Crafty it could simply not keep up with me (& some teamwork from my wife). So the drawback was that it would still run down when in use whether plugged or not, then to recharge to full would also take a while since the usb is a turtle.
The answer for me was Mighty, which as we know, can run plugged even when the battery is down, and even gain charge in between draws as the heater idles; net is that you can finish a multi-bowl session and still be almost fully charged for on the go.
But I know the discussion hovers more around Crafty+, which does look like it has the oomf to do a lot better overall in the power department, bringing it much close to current Mighty.

The crafty is the crafty +or- so this thread will probably be it. IMO
Like the firefly

It's still a different vape, like the Solo vs Solo 2, so I started the Crafty+ thread and reported this one to be "discontinued" since S&B no longer sell it.

As for passthrough charging, i'm pretty sure that @OF is the forum expert on it. LOTS of info in the Solo threads on it.

It's too bad these are still electronically governed to not reach the same max temperature as the flagship Volcano.

Neither is the plug in beast, The Plenty. I personally don't mind, as I feel that 210c is plenty of heat for purer vaporization, especially with the cooling units. Not too mention heater/battery limitations, and more convection than say, the Solo 2.

I feel ya my brotha, I think it just depends on the condition, my friend with the Mighty seems to have gone back to combustion... doesn't seem to get the chronic pain relief with vaping like smoking a bong hit?

Could be mental though, hard to freakin say!

Combustion/bong hits are a completely different :worms:. He may be better off with something that has much more conduction/hotter temps like the Solo 2 perhaps.

I think S&B aims more toward the "healthier" side of things, since they do have medical certified devices, which I do believe includes the Mighty Medic and Volcano medic.

Looking forward to reports from the Crafty+ early adopters. Nice to see the warranty bump up to 3 years with S&B (if registered).

My only concern as it was with the Crafty was the rapidly degrading battery. But that's when @JCat mods comes to the rescue!? :brow: Or perhaps the new circuitry will help prevent it? :hmm:

You’ll still have the battery dying eventually; so I’ll of course end up offering battery replacements for any devices out of warranty.

How soon the battery dies will be dependant on usage of course ... if you always run it down, you’ll get less cycles and it will be harder on it (it’s a 27w heater so peak current draw is 6.5-7.5A or so depending on battery voltage)

IMO S&B only released the vape with this feature so people would destroy their batteries even faster foe the extra service work. Never use the pass-through charging unless you have to.:2c:
I think we need a new Dynavap thread as the original glass version is no longer available.:disgust:

Conspiracy!

Not sure what that has to do with the new improved Crafty+ that competes with the Mighty. But like the mods told me, why don't you make one?

I don't necessarily agree with the first point  as I think that pass-through charging is there to minimize vape down-time (which it does well)... but I do agree on the second point very much ;). That is, only use pass-through when you "have" to on the Crafty. Because repetitively over-discharging the battery wears it out faster.

My own Crafty experience is now over 5 years, and my own unit is in the 150 hour range with just over three years of use. At this time it probably has ~ 1.3 hours of that overall use in pass-through charging (~ 20 different 4 minute sessions... under 1% of total use :sherlock: ). At that usage rate my Crafty has performed great here (I don't use it daily).

I agree it's too bad this thread may be chopped up. I enjoy paying homage and using the same thread when the manufacturer uses the same name in vape branding. It's also related to my respect and encouragement of big post count threads on a forum ;). However, I'm not a mod or FC owner and defer to them by all means whatever their decision is.
YMMV. Enjoy the Crafty and Crafty+ :peace::leaf:.
