Herb Grinders

I find that different grind consistencies work better with different vaporizers. Just as an example, I cannot use the same grind in my EQ that I use for my MFLB.

Why?
The MFLB just has a much finer screen, out of design. I used the herb I grind with my electric grinder in the MFLB, because it's a fine (almost powdery) consistency.

But in my EQ, that would clog the elbow screen and severely limit airflow. Instead, I use my 2PC SC to grind for the EQ. I also like to pre-grind enough for a few sessions (at least 2-3 days worth). This forces me to keep track of different "stashes" of strains and grinds.

So do you do the same thing, or do you use the same grind for all your vaporizers?

Nope. I prefer different grinds for different vapes.

For my MFLB, I obviously want it very fine. For my PD, a medium-fine grind, and my SV can handle a chunkier grind, but I crush that to near powder before finishing a load in that one.

I use different grinds for different vapes but I have used my ultra fine MFLB grind in other vapes with success.

do you use the same grind for all your vaporizers?
It really depends on what you've got. A coarse grind like you'd get with the typical 4 pc. is fine for most models, but small bowls usually do better with a finer grind. Most find the log vapes benefit from a finer grind, like you'd get with a 2 pc., and the LB does better with an even finer grind. The LB fine grind works well with the log vapes too, but can restrict air flow unless loosely filled.

I use different grinds for:
SSV (medium grind) -SC 4 piece medium
MFLB (fine) SC 2 piece small followed by OEM mini Grinder
NO2 & MZ (medium/fine) SC 4 piece large follwed by SC 4 piece scout mini

I am still trying to get the MFLB Could my grind be too course ? Perhaps that is my problem I see here that everyone is using a very fine grind for the MFLB. Vito your using two grinders to get the right consistancy for the MFLB? Should the matter be a fine powder ? Please all advise is welcomed..

Not a fine powder, but a fine grind..
The consistency of coffee from a grinder.. or pepper from a pepper mill.
I use two grinders , because the OEM is the perfect grind for me for the MFLB... but I don't like to try to fit unbroken bud in it... so I use the 4 piece first.. and catch any pollen.. The medium ground herb it then easy for me to pack into the OEM mini, as tightly as I want to grind it finer.
(same concept as you can fit more sand into a fixed area then you can rocks) ;)

Hey guys, I know there's been a lot of talk about the Volcano grinder ITT (I've been lurking for a few weeks), so I wanted to share this link I found for a free grinder. It looks a lot like the volcano one (the teeth pattern at least), the only exception being the color. Has anyone tried getting a grinder from that link?

max mentioned a couple weeks back about a container for herb, but I can not remember the thread it was in.. so I give max KUDOS here under herb grinders...
Since this pill carrier is for carrieng finely ground herb.
max.... I love this thing! It holds 4 good sized trenches of finely ground herb for MFLB. Doses for other vapes vary... but you get the idea! Airtight, and GREAT! I paid 87 each free shipping, and I just ordered more for "the gang"!

I think max posted those containers with specific relevance to the Cloud but clearly they serve a wide purpose.

Thanks Vito, I just ordered a few. I went with blue; I see you picked green. Definitely an upgrade from camera film canisters.

jeffp,
On topics of using different grinders for different vapes, I had previously been using a puffitup 2 piece for the MW and other larger type vapes and an electric type grinder I have detailed in previous posts for my MFLB and some other select usages. While I still love both those grinders, especially the electric, I have to just use the Puffitup supposedly mflb-specific grinder for all my vapes. It is too easy on the electric to seperate crystal from solid excessively, and while I don't in theory mind mixing it all back up in a dish I do mind how material tends to stick annoyingly to the mflb screen.

The little mflb-specific grinder provides an excellent, fine grind without the problems of the electric. It has a whole mess of teeth and makes a far finer grind than any conventional grinder I've used beforehand - I just wish it was upscaled so I didn't have to grind and grind and grind load after load to have a store to put away. But it is the best grinder solution I have found so far, and works great for all my vaporizers.

i have the mflb-specific grinder and although i haven't used it alot; i just fooled around with it to see what its capabilities are, i find the results are very similar to the *small* space case which produces a finer grind than the medium space case. i'll speak more definitively about this in time but that's my initial observation.

The small Sc can get finer then the medium? Thats great information, because I was just thinking of trying out a small one, I already have the medium and large, may as well complete the family! hahhahahaha

Don't complete the grinder family just yet - this is my initial observation. I'll post a few photos of the results of both grinders like I did with the Space Case and the Volcano grinder.
**edit**
to clarify I'll do a photo comparison of the two space cases and the flight box grinder with the same herbal jazz.

Here's some photos of the results of the LB specific grinder and the small and medium space cases. Didn't see a whole hell of a lot of difference between all of them except to say that the LB grinder does produce a slightly finer grind. The photos aren't very revelatory but it will give you an idea.

Conclusion: I believe the small space case produces a slightly finer grind than the medium but the difference is not substantial.
The launch box specific does in fact produce an even finer grind then the small space case but again we are dealing with very slight differences all around.

hope this is of value.

Just to clarify, that is the OEM grinder from puffitup?

How did it grind with such a full bud in there?

Thanks for the photo comparison :)

Yes, it's this one
http://www.puffitup.com/Magic-Flight-OEM-herb-grinder-p/magicflightoemgrinder.htm

The bud was dry so it turned easily.

Honestly I'm used to the small space case so I use it most of the time; I could live without the medium but if i started off with the medium I'd feel the same about the small.

In August I'll have the month completely to myself so I intend on spending a bit of time with the launch box. I haven't even taken it out of the mailing carton yet.
That's one of my goals for August. One of my other goals is a photo of Elmo holding a PD in Times Square but that's wishful thinking. :p

That grinder looks interesting, but I can't tell from the pics what that piece is that fits on the MFLB. Is it a 2 piece? Can you please clarify this for me?

Yes, it's a two piece. Vitolo made a little video demonstrating the launch box grinder which is either on this thread or the LB thread if you're willing to search around to find it. That should clarify.

Nice review Jeff, I think I can smell the fresh herbs through the monitor!

I'm a bit annoyed I got the non magnet version of the sc, do you guys think there's a big difference between the two?

nah, i'm sure there's absolutely no difference at all aside from the magnet.

Hmmm dont be so quick to judge.

Believe it or not, when i first ordered from puffitup I ordered 2 of the mini oem grinders. ONE of them arrived with no magnet, and no thing in the middle for magnets to be put. It was a non magnet version, which I didnt know existed, I thought they all were magnetic. I then tested them both side by side, similar to the manner of your photo comparisons, and found the one with the magnet ground it up much more evenly.

Now, this may only affect such small grinders, but im not sure! it may affect any sized grinder.

I just assumed all grinders have magnet on them but obviously not the case. It's annoying having to worry about the lid falling off, especially when I'm under the influence but I guess I'll need to be more careful.
