(...)...now I'm totally lost. I've done some reading and I've heard great things about the coil (although it sounds like it's not good unless you're using water filtration?) (...)
Howdy!?

I did believe that the coil did not work native as well, but as soon as I needed it, I started trying and mastered some technique. It works really fine without any glass/water piece as well, just requires a bit of learning. Ah, I agree the VG wood pipe is much easier and better to use without water, but wish to bring my feedback on the coil as well (I have tried both).... hopefully my 2c to this discussion.

Cheers!

Anybody know if VG ships stealth mode? (Brown box no labels). My neighbors are very nosy and rather anti-green, and we happen to have a 4 house joined mailbox lol.

all of my VG stuff has shown up in plain packaging. Might say vaporgenie on the return address on the shipping label though... I can't remember.

is it possible to buy replacement ceramic stones for the VG coil?
Contact the people at VG through the contact sheet on the website.
I have had the ceramic stone replaced.
They want to be sure their ceramic proprietary stones are not floating around out there!
They will get back in touch with you and you can go from there~

Right on! Thanks Vitolo, I was cleaning it with a torch ( or so i thought) and it kinda deteriorated is the best way too put it i guess. Missing my coil for sure, i like to hit it while other vapes are warming up. :p

Ill second this, by saying what I've read is that it can be done, it's just a rather large pain on the ass to get right and the vapor is less than desirable.
^ True, i never had much luck using my coil without a bong/bubbler. It's a AWESOME little rig tho...if i lost it, I would buy another immediately.

Hey guys, I was trying to say that it works, not that it must be the best alternative, maybe I was not so clear.... In that case it was the only alternative.... Can you imagine being on the most remote inhabited piece of land on earth and having to choose among those options: not medicating, combusting or using the coil? That's how I had my chance to master it...

In the past I did believe (as you do) it's not sufficient without water bubbler, and I had not had much luck using it native, but as soon as I had to, I changed my mind.... I now do believe it works dry, and also believe it's not the best and recommended portable vaporizer for dry mode....

Don't want to be rude, or flame the topic ok, just showing a point of view from someone who changed my own mindset based on need.

Cheers

I left my friend alone with no vaporizer but the coil, and no bong, for a few weeks/months and he definitely figured out using the Coil natively PURTY QUICKLY :D

What I was getting at is that it's not the ideal VG for dry use, however it is a favorited "travel vape" because is easy to clean and cheap if you must leave it.

Salutations Quetzalcoatl,

That's how I read it, anyways, and can see where he's coming from.

Well, the fact that there's no water accessory doesn't imply that the cannabic vapor is "dry" in this special case where water vapor is being generated in the process of butane burning so, if not confusing i still find that a bit of a stretch!!

You're right, it doesn't imply that the vapor quality is any less. However I think the distinction was made because the coil VG is "geared" towards being used with a water pipe more often than not. It does, after all, sit inside both 14mm and 18mm female joints out of he box, unlike most of the rest.

Probably doesn't translate well, but it works using it directly ("dry") but better hooked up to water bong ("wet")

It really still amazes me how much bashing the VG gets around the net from the "all your vapor you're exhaling is just butane" to "it only combusts its a pile of shit" . Really just shows we have an actually educated community base here and damn does it feel good to be apart of it.

That's from people who lack a sense of perspective, most certainly. Please show me where this is going on since i've got a few thoughts to share with such individuals!! Combustion happens because of operator error, provide that operator a sufficient control range and then it should resolve quite naturally after awhile. Given an opportunity i feel i'd be ready to give VaporGenie's Bronze model some good try right away...

Salutations everyone,

My VaporGenie adventure is about to enter its 4th month soon so there's been a lot of "modding" taking place since March. Lets now recapitulate in picture as i've accumulated a few...

115.gif

Before the VG Classic pipe i had been making circles around my HerbalAire for nearly 25 months, re-discovering fire solved the dryness problem and portability came as a valuable bonus, but it turns out i needed to replace the genuine VG duck-lips mouthpiece with PVC extension tubing (and HA teflon straws) to actually begin climbing my learning-curve at all:

Additionally, going back to the duck-lips VG mouthpiece became an option for me only very recently and it still required a slight PVC skin to be added in any case (see black pipe in top-left part):

It seems reasonable to think that perhaps the excess heat on my lips is just a consequence of such "modding", so i imagine heat wouldn't be an issue if i manage to acquire sufficient skills to operate a genuine VG Classic pipe too, eventually - hence i keep hoping!

105.gif

Nonetheless my need for "Eye Contact" remains or i must face serious trade-offs in my own case.

Anyway, early at 1st i started paying attention to "Hot-Spot" formation and viewed this as the consequence of some "thermal lense" effect caused by the "Ceramic Filter", then i got the idea that inclusion of an air layer between a pair of those would promote turbulence which in turn would cause heat to be scrambled more evenly:

The concept was initially tested using nothing but a simple metal screen, preliminary results made me want to move forward with something more defined structurally:

...so i tried hand-carving aluminium pieces...

...and eventually got better at it, loosing a leg in the process (not mine):

But should my air buffer be located in front or behind of the aluminium shield?... What about thermal properties, what if i could try glass for example? Am i really "de-focussing" at the focal point? Etc.

:science:

In the meantime i found that termination of a sphere's base conduit with regular screening will provide a self-cleaning quality (it's so hot next to nothing will get a chance to stick around):

Reliability and cleanliness of my power source kept me searching for a while as well. Canadian Tire's Ronson butane cans were eventually rejected and replaced by Xikar Purofine (300 ml, ≤ 30 ppm "stable non-volatile impurities") that got a good try since then, but i'm now evaluating London's "Near Zero Impurities" 300 ml bottles instead (as that's easier to locate nearby)... So far so good!

79.gif

I've been through an intolerance episode but i'm now practically convinced it was a result of "rafale" testing (improperly repeating) alternative tube evaluations (e.g. unusually frequent intakes) combined to pollen sensitivity in the spring season. My tubing's layout no longer appears to be involved and now that i mention it i recall i haven't seen much water droplets collect inside for quite a long time - since version 2 or so (i'm now near 15 but stopped counting!)...

The Xikar Resource (a Vector KGM Gladius clone) works about right but its pipe tools cost precious fuel tank capacity (frequent refills) so i'd most definitely prefer less goodies and more fuel! I keep a set of Bic miniTronic jetable lighters handy (i alternate to avoid incidents due to excess heating) but this option is reserved for "Plan-C" situations.

...

The bright side of being a newbie with a susceptible nose is that this could be put to good use as it helped me to eliminate non-viable solutions quickly, so to speak. There were days when i was counting up to 12 - 15 while heating, i'm now down to 3 seconds or so and the palette of experiences hardly compares: exposure (if it's an issue at all) has been effectively reduced (to a point my cannabic vapor started feeling "dry" lately: coughing again!)... So, my newbiness was a sort of probing tool i've gradually lost as i became more agile at operating a VG pipe, unfortunately; that's one reason why i don't expect to make much more progress, which prompts me to share my findings i guess.

...

Finally, here comes the last phase:

Metal/Glass hybrid solutions!
15.gif

More surprizes were waiting for me as the structure from above didn't work as planned in my implementation shown below:

This is my present "winner" instead:

Long-term *viable* Two-Stones Hybrid Shield configuration

...and i yet have to figure out why i like it better than the rest! Maybe the metal shield acts like a "Heat-Sink" to the puck while refractory material "defocalizes" heat before it reaches the last one (?)...

39.gif

What i can tell is that i no longer have to turn my front "puck" red-hot (most likely it will slow-down "erosion") and it's finally compatible with blue (torch) flames which i find very convenient & reliable in dark/windy environments.

:peace:

P.S.:

The tetrahedron shaped glass item (pictured above) can most probably be replaced with nothing but a simple, chemically innert/heat-refractory ball (Woops! Maybe a flattened one!...), as long as its diameter will range somewhere around 6 to 10 mm or so, depending on prefered airflow restriction...

Notice the refurbished screen-wrapped "foamy-rock" i hold in front of it (bottom-left side), this 2nd "Ceramic Filter" seems necessary as those metallic shields behave like radiators at some point: it becomes the new focal point for intense heat, defeating its primary purpose as a result!

The aluminium support appears to adds a touch of "Heat Retention" to my modded VG pipe, at 1st it absorbs energy while heating and then it releases some more even after i've stopped heating. So, briefly put i think i'll need to avoid metal bits facing that bowl in future experiments or my precious load will continue to get scorched!...

Aproximative "Ceramic Filter" thicknesses range between 3 to 5 mm for my front puck comparatively to 2 mm for the refurbished one located at the base, hence i'd suggest trying to begin tests with identical units about 3.6 mm (9/64 ") thick. A genuine VG disc is close to 7.5 mm (3/10 ") as i recall...

The Bronze Sherlock VG is no joke! Now that I've mastered the technique, I'm in awe of the clouds I can pull with this thing. I took it to my best friend's house last weekend and tried to teach her and another friend how to hit it. BF couldn't manage to hit it at all and the other friend was only able to manage a small, wispy cloud (and scorched one corner of my filter during one attempt...boo!) Let me tell you, there was something very satisfying about demonstrating for them that the thing did work and I could produce clouds that rivaled what they were getting from the Solo and Underdog they were using. They reacted by mocking the look of the Sherlock and calling me Gandalf. (They were jealous, clearly).

Seriously, though, I'm surprised by how much "fun" I'm having with the VG. Despite the fact that I've got plenty of vaping options at this point, I keep finding myself going for sessions with the Bronze Sherlock just because I enjoy using it. That's high praise for a vape under $100, IMO.

Holy shit! Just got the glass bat VG in today from Jcat! This is a game changer. Smoothest VG hits ever. Fits in 18mm and 14mm if you tried hard enough. It's just a perfect little vape. I little bigger then I expected but such a nice unit. I'm almost scared to take it out cuz I don't wanna break it. Probably wouldn't though, the glass is insanely thick! This thing is a beast and hits like a train. I recommend them if you like an all glass air path!:spliff:<<<<<<that's how you feel with it hahaha

Salutations Meghan,

BF couldn't manage...

Eye contact did wonders for me.

...mocking the look of the Sherlock...

Gandalf might probably argue it's wiser to properly match function to shape or vice-versa!

:myday:

...I'm surprised by how much "fun" I'm having with the VG.

I believe i found an appropriate Plan-B for my own use at last, the fun part certainly was a most obvious aspect i could notice early... The surprize is shared although mine is from Classic bits.

...I keep finding myself going for sessions with the Bronze Sherlock just because I enjoy using it.

After about two dozens of modded versions my heating time is down to nearly 3 seconds and my hot-spots are no real concern anymore... The exploration phase has past for all practical purposes and i'm now into the enjoy part. By the way, 1 single gram appears to provide roughly 45~ inhalations and initial aroma/taste experiences satisfy me greatly while exhales indicate i'm on the right track. It's simply too bad local resellers won't keep the Sherlock on their shelves, ready to be acquired - annonymously!

I joined the club a little while ago but just found this thread

I'm been enjoying my new glass vapor bat so much that I just pulled the trigger on the brass sherlock with a purple/blue patina and a jujube bowl that was in my vg shopping cart! I have a shitload of bics so these are perfect. The gvb is incredible and I'm sure this will be too!

So Meghan and shredhead, cheers!

And wow Egzoset, that was quite a post!

Yeah yeah flint dust whatever...
I just let it burn for a second if I don't have my hempwick handy ;)
