Thanks! I'm just anxious for some warmer weather, so that I can get to the BHO, and move on from the QWISO.
so those last pictures you posted of the of the last runs you did= ak47, great white, white russian are all QWISO runs? damn that looks beautiful, I always thought QWISO runs gave you dried powdery/keif type hash, but I guess it depends on the type of material you use. if you dont mind my asking I saw a guide that says to just wash for about 30 secs? is that your normal wash time or longer, and when you mean 2nd runs you use the same material just a second wash with a longer period of time? I really just want to make some sort of yummy goodness and havent decided on making BHO or QWISO, but QWISO seems you can run smaller batches than you would with BHO

i thought the same about QWISO runs generally producing a dried powdery/keif type hash. now im real curious about Purpl3_Haz3's method if he would like to share :brow:

also, with QWISO vs. BHO methods. From what I've read, BHO is a more efficient way to extract the desirables. However, ISO is supposedly more effective at extracting a wider variety of cannabinoids compared to BHO which is why it may be a better choice if your starting material is ABV instead of fresh flowers.

Yes, all of the pics I've posted have been QWISO runs, and the most recent was my 5th run ever :) My second runs are the same bud. I usually do two runs on each strain, and usually 7g runs. So, between the two washes, I get back around 1.4 from 7g (20%) Qwiso works for small or large runs, as does BHO. I believe Stroh ( a member here ) does small BHO runs of < 3g of bud. I could do qwiso with over an ounce, but would be better with less, as it's easier to squeeze out the ISO from less bud. (the longer the ISO sits in the bud, the more chlorophyll leaches into the oil.)

My process is fairly simple, and derivative of many techs found on the web, and discussion on this and other forums. I've been meaning to make a step by step process, so here goes nothing:

1: gather supplies, herbs, jar for wash, Pyrex dish(es) for evap, a hand held strainer that can hold a coffee filter, unbleached coffee filters, 91% ISO or higher, french press instead of jar (optional, optimal, I added this to my setup for my last run, and it helped a lot!)

2: place herbs in jar or french press, and place in freezer for a couple hours (helps lock in chlorophyll)

3: place the Pyrex dish on the counter, have a coffee filter in the hand held strainer, ready to hold over the Pyrex dish.

4: remove french press/jar of herbs from the freezer.

5: pour ISO into the jar/french press, just enough to cover the herbs. Swish around for about 10-15 seconds tops. (I swish fairly roughly, to agitate the bud, but not so hard as to break the buds apart)

6: after 10-15 seconds, press down the press in your french press, to squeeze the liquid from the buds, and pour your liquid into the handheld strainer/coffee filter held above your Pyrex. (if using a jar instead of a press, I would have two strainers, place the bud into one, and use the other to push down and squeeze the liquid from the buds)

7: once all liquid is in the Pyrex, I fill my sink with hot water. Set the Pyrex in the hot water, and change water as needed, to maintain a warm bath to speed up the evap process.

8: I preheat my oven to its lowest temp, and wait for it to reach preheat before turning it off. My oven doesn't have a setting lower than 200ish degrees.

9: once all of the liquid is evapped from your Pyrex, you can place it in the oven. I put it in for about 10 minutes at first.

10: remove from oven, and scrape your oil with a blade, onto some parchment paper. once all oil is collected on parchment paper, place it in the oven to soften it into one chunk. Once removed from the oven it hardens up again like candy :)

From here, it's trial and error. Everything I have read, says that the purge has a lot to do with the product; heating/cooling, etc. Sometimes, after I've scraped my oil from the Pyrex, and onto the parchment, it will bubble up like mad in the oven...so I remove it, and it collapses, I put it back in, and get what you see in the pics above. Other times, its come out like that a lot sooner, other times it needs to be worked with more.

I also usually do two washes. The purpose originally was that it was nice to get the dark oil along with the good oil, to have as a backup. BUT, my second washes are starting to come out like my first washes, nice and yellow...*see pics of great white shark washes* So I may start doing three runs. A lot of the color in the end product has to do with the time of the wash. Short washes = less actives etc absorbed by the ISO, yet at the same time, less waxes/chlorophyll, etc...So I prefer at least 2 washes, to preserve quality and potency, yet to be efficient at the same time, and leave minimal behind.

I can post pics, or elaborate more on any steps that are confusing.

Prior to doing your second wash do you place the buds and jar back in the freezer or just go straight into your second wash? Is your second wash also 10-15 seconds?

Thank you sir, that clears up a lot of things. now one last question, when doing QWISO you always use fresh herb? and if I were to use avb itd be better to do a BHO run? this may sound dumb, but has anyone ever tried to run a batch using both avb/ and fresh herbs? cause ive read people use avb as a filler for say (gasp combusting joints/blunts). anyway just a though, next time I come up on some quality shake/bottom of the bag nuggies ima do a qwiso run!

I just go straight to the second wash. Second wash is also 10-15 seconds.

I edited my previous post to answer your questions a little more directly :)

I always use fresh herb. I have done abv a few times, but it always comes out in such a sticky dark form, that is so hard to work with, I find it almost undesirable. I don't know though, it may be worth it for some.

As far as doing BHO for it, I personally wouldn't. The reason being, when doing BHO, you want to have a fairly consistent pack, but I don't believe you want anything near abv consistency. I think you want at the least, popcorn size buds/larger trim, if not smaller whole nugs for bho, but this is just my understanding, I haven't personally made BHO.

As for mixing both fresh and abv together, once again, I personally wouldn't. for one, the color/quality of the abv oil is going to taint the color/quality/taste of the over all product. If you wanted to use all of your herb (fresh and abv) I would do a different run/wash for each. Then, you can decide if you like the abv oil without possibly wasting fresh herb. You may find, that you like making edibles from abv better than making oil to vape/smoke. If you doint like how your abv qwiso/bho comes out, make some using Everclear, or a similar alcohol, and make green dragon or edibles.

If you do use quality shake/bottom of the bag nuggies, know this; I remove anything that isn't a solid bud before I do a wash. All I use are solid buds, of decent size for qwiso. The reasoning is that the goal is to get mainly cannabinoids, and little to no plant matter/waxes/chlorophyll. By freezing the buds, and using whole larger buds, its easier to get a decent amount of cannabinoids and get minimal plant matter/waxes/chlorophyll...but breaking the plant up into smaller pieces/shake, will make it easier to leach chlorophyll, etc, into your oil. For an example, look at my most recent pics in this thread...With the AK 47(last set of pics in that post), the first run is a nice light color, where as the second run is darker and less appealing looking. this is because I broke up the bud between the first and second wash, and broke it up a lot. more plant matter was exposed to the ISO, so more chlorophyll made its way into the oil. That being said, if you use less than solid buds, (ie: shake/trim) use a shorter wash/shake time and/or be prepared for a darker oil.

Next run I do, I am going to take some pics throughout the process, and make a nice QWISO tech.

Just thought I'd pop in to show off my latest extraction that I'm about to dab just now- it's just turned 20/4 here 20 minutes ago, the purge is finished and it's scraped up in my dish!!!. Happy 420 guys! Apparently the buds I used to make this were Blueberry. It's yummy :D

I do enjoy making this stuff, but I fly through my reserves and it is messing with my tolerances. Feel a break coming on maybe after this....

I got a bong too! it's not quite asa fancy as your but very similar. 4 arm (with 4 slits per arm) tree sitting above jksut like yours, but then instead of the enclose done spash guard yours has, mine has ice pinches. I for it for 49.99 at my favourite glass shop. i dunno the brand, but it's a cheap tube, but this guy's very happy with it!

i wonder if mine is black leaf too then? my only concern with my tube is where teh stem enters. I can see the joint in the glass where it was "bonded" together. makes me think it's going to be the part of it that breaks first if i don't have any accidents first haha. I should have bought 2 maybe even.

Purpl3_Haz3, by chance do you have an omnicrom and have tried using the quiso wash in it?

I do not, and wish I did...As much as the taste is great with the nail/dome setup i'm using, I would love to put it in a "made for oil vape" such as the Omi, Persei, or TV. I just however found out that someone I know locally has a TV, and I am gonna either borrow it for a test drive, or donate some oil to be test driven. As soon as I do, I'll post back here with results! It will help me with my purge too, not sure if I'm killing terps in the process or not...still learning!

I own the omi, the revolution and a Ti pad, and the pad is my go to method when i am at home. when I am on the road i personally prefer the revolution. but would bring my ti dab station with me if i could! haha

I think I would prefer a nail/dome or Ti pad/cruve setup over a portable, I have just read that they (the omi/persei/tvr) are great for taste testing.

Anyone got tips for dabbing buddery stuff? Latest stuff literally turned to like solid buddery blonde stuff. Very hard to dab...was gunna maybe stick some in the cloud cause its so hard to get a nice glob of it haha. literally like little tiny balls that break up when you tap it lol.

used a flat pad dabber, smaller than nail hole. pinch together your hit, place ON instead of tacking to bottom.
tap budder into nail. or maybe use still sticky bottom side from previous hit and smash to the tack there. or pinch with tweezer or hemostats and drop on nail. hope that helps!

Got a new camera, that doesn't take horrible quality video/pictures! Spent about an hour taking the pics/videos for this movie...all well worth it! I'm not sure if others do this or not, but I hold my dabber just above the nail and let the dab drop from the dabber onto the nail. You can see it in the video at 1:12, and 2:20. I was impressed with the quality of the close up video; Wasn't expecting that from a point n' shoot.

Forgive me for the bad lighting in a few spots/lame editing...this is my first dab video.

Edit* Don't forget to change it to HD :)
