Discontinued The Grasshopper

Had me thinking too but none of my tips fit. Going to have to get one. I'm loving this thing more and more. Notice it's really strong as I thought I would try it on the highest setting and I literally was breathing fire. And that was through water. I'm now loving it on 3.5. Notice the white cotton in mine and it certainly has performed. Question is why don't the Pfe fit my 14mm bong? Got to use the condom?
I have used PFE with 14 mm glass and it fits great. Also put it in an adapter 14 to 18 mm so I can use it with 18mm glass, and it fits the adapter fine. Is It possible your glass is not 14mm, like maybe it's 18mm?
(HL carries those 14/18 adapters, made of glass)
*I think also, for your reference, that the outside diameter of the Hopper body itself is 14mm, but don't take that as gospel.

Greetings gang

Been off the boards just rolling along....

Can anyone tell me if the PFE screen is removable and if so how?

Any cautionary tales are welcome.

No idea as the PFE basically a 14 mm male adapter. Fits all of my 14 mm joints, hand made and scientific.

I believe we saw info earlier that says it is not. Nor does it have all of those fiddly pieces that the standard MP is made up of.

Just drop the whole PFE in ISO and there you are, I believe

While I wait for suite inspections to be done so I can use it again, I thought I'd drop back in and say my GH and PFE are still running great. The most I've had to do is scrape the PFE screen with the end of the clip. Anything else generally blows right back through. The restriction is so much less, it makes it even more enjoyable taking hits. I'm still cycling between 2 new B2 and 1 old B2 battery, usually getting through a full cycle most days. Although I'll probably buy another 2 or 3 next month. I'm running it at no lower than 3, usually higher. The back end gets very hot, but this hasn't caused any issues so far so I just ignore it. I've had it for a good 9 months now.

@Hogni, that's great your new GH is working so well, do you think it's just the temperature that's different (maybe the firmware update better regulates it, instead of just increasing the temperature)?

My GH is still going strong. As @Shieldsab, my backend gets hot (hotter than it used to, I think), but it still performs well, so I'm happy.

The vapcap thread almost has as many pages as this one now, which I'm sad about; I liked having a vaporiser with an unreasonably high number of posts about it (even if a lot of them have been trials and tribulations with reliability) ;)

Not only. It's the overall performance which I like much more. Temp seems to stay more stable while drawing. I don't know how they did it.
Now my start setting is 2.0. After the first draw fat and tasty clouds. Going higher to 4.0 for finishing. Just tried a finish draw at 5.0. Harsher but very equally roasted to a mid to darker brown.
One thing I noticed. It seems that the batts have to work more. Pretty fast changing to red flickering. Same batts didn't show this behavior with my old GH so fast. But I mean this regards to older batts with already existing decrease of performance.
I like to use my new hopper much more often now than the old one.

Took my GH on vacation with me and it worked great. Very stealth and I enjoyed it a lot. I used it at an RV park sitting at a picnic table. It must have dropped out of my pocket and I didn't think about using it until the next day. I lost it somewhere between CA and OR. Not sure where? I thought it was somewhere in our RV or in the bottom of my bag but it never showed up again. It was a wonderful trip except for that mishap.

I just ordered me another one just now. I'm going with a stainless steel and just bought an extra battery. They are so small they are easily lost. I hope I don't get a lemon this time around. I was very contented with the one I had.

Sorry to hear it went missing. I did exactly the same with my first. I will not go out and about with the replacements without a lanyard pouch now. They get put right back in the pouch after use.

Good luck with the SS, hope it's perfect for you.

Just sent back my SS Hopper with the replacement back-end they sent me ... got about a week of good performance out of replacement back-end, with fiddling.

Ti Hopper still working well but back-end has gotten extremely finicky ... turns on just by nudging button in different directions ... have to fiddle with it for it to maintain temp sometimes (rotate button and/or dial, etc, etc). Will return it for repair once I finally have a working SS one in my hands!

Even during the week where my SS was working, my Ti was still more consistent and required much less fiddling.

Now my 4th RMA on this Hopper and the week I describe above is the best it's worked for me (bought in Feb). Really hoping it finally gets fixed this time after $100 in RMA shipping expense on it ...

After reading on here and getting enough info I finally bought a gh a week or two ago. I was skeptical and hoping I wouldn't run into problems but I must say it's perfect for me. I use it at night as my daytime is the mighty. But I'm still going out three or four sessions a night and no problem. S aside from shit battery performance. And some heat. I think where people are going wrong is just too much use? And how you use it. How you store it. To me it's like my 4th child and it isn't coming to work with me. Instead it's docked charging waiting for me. Now I know why I was told to get two or three lmao. I'm loving this thing. Compared to mighty it's more Dainty... like fragile and high tech. Better looking and hits so hard. Where as the mighty is a pig and it will go and do anything. I owe my bliss to fc. And everyone one here whose pointed me into the right direction. Glad to see some positive feedback lately and here's to hoping for more hopping.

The new replacement upgrades are awesome. I had a good working hopper but got the flashing then returned and now... Waaay better. I don't know how they did it, but bravo HL!
This is what I'm really hoping for. Mine is due back tomorrow and each time it's returned in the past, it's been a mellow hoorah.

They offered shipping back this time as well as buffing out the scratches they put on it last time, it almost feels different. Damn I hope this time is different!

Oh no, poor you, that sucks! I got a Vapcap M for just that reason; losing that would be sad, but at least it's not like losing something as expensive to replace as the GH. Best of luck for your new one; hopefully it's like @Hogni's and even better than your last.

I finally received a working SS grasshopper after almost 10 RMAs. Perhaps it's because I've been using other devices in my multiple dead grasshoppers' absence, but I'm noticing a fairly strong metallic overtone to the taste that seems to carry through to an unpleasant aftertaste. This is with extremely tasty herb, and the hits don't represent it's quality.

Any tips to negate this?

Nope. It will fade over time, but seriously, I never felt good about this device due to that reason. That and all the RMA requests.

No, it took 2 rma's before that taste finally went away for mine. It was one of the reasons that I doubted everyone who said the taste was pleasant from the hopper. When that metallic taste finally faded I thought wow it is actually alright.

I will say I'm glad and excited to read the recent positive posts. Hopefully when it comes back it'll be back to good times. I love the way I can pull it out of my pocket while my helpers gone to the truck for something... Hit it for 20 seconds a couple of times in under a minute on 4 or 5.... Slip it back into my pocket... and be ripped as hell and him never know a thing!

All day long..
My mighty cant do that.
I miss you already Grasshopper

My hopper's been running great as well since this last go-round, maybe they are finally finding their groove. Cool back end stable temperature hotter than ever where it counts knock on wood it stays that way

FUCK THAT MAN.

9 is also fucking ridiculous.

I'm feeling real bad now guys. I feel like i got a golden hopper straight outta the box: big clouds, recharged fine, didnt get cop lights, auto shut off worked, backend didnt get too hot, working perfectly for 5 months till i got water on it and i really dont wanna get into mutiple fucking rmas.

WHERE IS THE POLL OR STICKY IN THIS THREAD?!?!?
Im not gonna read 700 pages to understand the different hopper experiences. Mods can we just have a poll
-how many GHs do you own?
-how many RMAs have u had?
-when did you buy your first Gh

Would be superhelpful.

@Lefty collecting the data you are requesting is not going to change your chances of receiving a defective hopper. I'd say you have 5 months of knowing what a hopper should do. If there is a variation on how it operates then you will need to send it in. But here is what I've seen in my experience.
1. Flickering beyond low battery warning
2. Taking longer than 5 seconds to heat
3. Hot backend
4. Light abv on temp 5 (overpower the heater)
5. Single flash of red while heating
6. Flash of red when clicked on then no power (even once is not good)
7. No auto off

Again if your hopper is doing any of those things above even just once it's a sign that something is wrong and will eventually degrade in performance or just not operate. There are different levels of degraded performance but when you start "testing" your hopper for performance It's NOT you its me said the hopper.

I've recently had multiple and I mean MULTIPLE RMA services. My advise to anyone is know what you sign up for. I know there is a lifetime warranty. I know if it is not working correctly I send it in and they fix it. The only surprise around the warranty service is when they go above and beyond what they said they would do like paying for postage, or sending a replacement before I send my unit back.

The hopper itself has not proven to be reliable. What I can rely on is to send it and they fix it, or in some cases attempt to fix it. I'll eventually get a working device and eventually a golden ticket. I'll keep trying until I do because this thing fits my needs so well.

I think the best feedback you can get is from your own experience. Either you're a happy owner or you're not.

Polls in these places are going to be answered on a random and very limited basis, so not 'accurate' in a useful way (btw, I think you can start your own if you are so inclined). I think the horror stories, while mostly true, are the ones repeated far more than the 'good news'.

I happen to own two Hoppers for over a year and have returned them about 8 or 9 times (total). It costs me all of $4 US each time, and I have a backup while one is out of commission. I actually bought 4, gave two away and those two others failed in first two months; the recipients still haven't even made first warranty claim, but they will someday and they'll be 'made whole' when the time comes - or maybe sell them for more than I originally paid as a pre-orderer, since they're still un-registered!

I'm on extended break atm but I've never regretted my initial purchase. All 4 didn't cost very much more than my experience with Crafty/Mighty (I do love the Mighty, btw). I had to go through 4 Crafty's before upgrading to a Mighty - and S&B's are some of the best portables made!

A while back there was so much discussion about warranty ethics that a mod did create a separate thread - gave it a kinda weird name but that's beside the point.
http://fuckcombustion.com/threads/ethics-karma-and-grasshopper-warranty-discussion.21860

I have read and followed this thread from the beginning (and before this, the "Shipping" poll) and I guess my advice would be to just jump in now and start from here-- the Hopper is not the same device it was 2 years ago anyway; it's still evolving. The charger and batteries are even different from the original roll outs.
