Holy shit man! Although does make me wonder whether someone should just bite the bullet and move on to concentrate use  :p

I kid, I'm not one to talk, sometimes we have to take one for the team and experiment ;) I remember hitting two sublimators and a cloud on one rig in a similar way once. :science:

I don't know, fella. On 4.1 my GH will consistently and evenly brown the herb. I'm sure on 5 that I could get it to be quite dard. That in your hand looks to still have lots of legs left (although pictures are often deceiving).

Cheers

A number of reasons could cause uneven cooking of the load for the relevant OP. Too fast of an inhale like was mentioned by another user may lead to uneven vaporization (uneven grind and not packing a very full load may effect this too). That looks like a small load too, enough to move about a lot in the chamber during vaporization.

A lot of vapes work very unevenly in vaporizing material that does not stay in the same place in the chamber during operation. It may help to stuff some SS wool (don't use organic fibres, this is a part of the chamber that's going to get too hot IMO) in the bottom of the chamber to fill it out and allow your load to be more efficiently (for the purpose of vaporization) packed. Vaporization should be much more even if the air passes through a single, even mass of herb which stays in the same even mass throughout vaporization - especially if you are inhaling super hard as well as packing a small load loose in the hopper.

I do also think it is worth discussing something else here:

I no longer seek dark brown AVB from flowers. I want light brown/yellow-ish AVB. I am looking to vaporize the resin glands on the flower, not the green plant material!

One thing I have noted is that if you put a load of flowers in the evo at 12 o'clock on the dial, you'll get huge clouds. As an aside, consider how much cooler and smoother this whitewall vapor is dry than the lowest temp whitewall vapor you'll get on the hopper lol (anyone who has used both vapes will appreciate this).

A look at the AVB from the abovementioned flowers used in the evo scenario described under high magnification (both before and after vaporization) will reveal that the AVB may still have small amounts of green plant material in it (although mostly pale brown/yellow and no visible green to the naked eye). However, resin glands are no longer present on the AVB, even under the highest of magnifications (higher than we normally use in macro shots of buds). Of course, one must still check this avb for residual resin content which may have melted into the plant material during vaporization and not been boiled back out again due to lower temps.

Short of putting the AVB on a column for proper analytics, one good way to test this is to apply moderate heat (useful rosin temps for example might be a good guide) to a generous amount of AVB, then attempt to press it by hand with as much force as you can onto a metal or glass surface (easier to clean if you make a mess lol). If the warm/hot AVB does not feel sticky at all after squishing hot granules on your skin with plenty of force, you have a reasonable cursory indication that very little or no resin is left. Even if you don't have access to high magnification methods to look at your AVB, this should give you some idea of how much resin is left in the AVB.

I would not use solvents to assess the remaining resin content in AVB since most solvents are going to pull stuff out that is not necessarily resin from material that has been exposed to such temps (anyone who knows how AVB solvent extracts look compared to even rig reclaim for example will have noticed a distinct difference in flavor and appearance!). Even the above heat/stickiness test is subject to this criticism to a much lesser extent.

This is of course advise for people who want to consume just the resin and avoid the harsh plant decomp byproducts. Anyone who wants to continue cooking their plant material beyond when the resin has boiled away is most welcome to do so ;) :peace:

Thanks for the tips! Still getting used to the draw as I'm not used to having to trigger the heater based off pull speed. Normally I prefer a slow draw but didn't think it was possible with GH. I'll also try to pack more, less often. So change the bowl out less because I pack the chamber bigger. We'll see. Thanks guys.

This was honestly beyond concentrates. Flowers always give me a different feeling but this was three to the power of three. It was high temp but it was sativa dominant at the same time. The nano was set to 6.8 and the hoppers were set to 5.

No doubt this gave a sensation beyond what concentrates give brother, you're choking the shit out of yourself with that much vapor going in at once lol!

Next time a former bong smoker inevitably makes a thread saying that they can't get high enough from vaping vs smoking, we'll just tell them to try this technique lol!

All joking aside, I do aim for medical use, with the occasional recreational detour. Unfortunately, I do not have easy access to concentrates right now. That may soon change. :)

I've experimented with rosin but that's not always cost effective...

Being able to achieve results like that with flowers is a nice backup when other options aren't present.

This is on about 4.7, with a slower pull. Will pack more and post a pic later of me trying to darken it ...
Whoa, what an improvement already man! I wouldn't wanna cook material more than that as it is :D

@Vapor_Eyes I feel you on the problems with low yields sometimes when making extracts. If you ever get into producing full melt like me, you get used to only retaining about 1/10 to 1/20 of the weight of your flowers back in hash lol. That hash lasts me longer than the flowers would in their original form however. High terpene extracts like full melt bubble seem to give much more bang for buck in terms of effects. I would use 1g of full melt over 2-4 weeks whereas 1g of rosin would be done in a week (but I tend to get twice the return from rosin than I do from bubble).

It all balances out in the end once you master extraction teks I have found. However, the elephant in this discussion that we haven't addressed is that when we are learning to extract resin, we end up wasting/ruining actives in our early attempts - this reduces with experience and proficiency. It is very important that anyone who wants to try their hand at concentrates keeps this in mind before getting started. There'll be tears otherwise!

Needless to say, if you ever need a hand producing concentrates for meds, just drop me a PM my friend :)

Battery research:

My batteries show capacity in the 500 range and 130's internal resustance.

Quote from a discussion about the bad effects of this high number. Good batteries run 20-80 and the grasshopper stresses this short coming. Result being battery can cut out and then come back to life when stress relieved i believe what this means. Please help battery expert types.

"indication on a seemingly good battery because the available energy cannot be delivered in the required manner and remains in the battery"

This is about 4.7 on an almost fully depleted battery

This is 5 on a fully charged battery. 4.7 a little weak on the brown scale, but a fresh battery can push it. Vapor between the two hits was minimal, but this was the change, just two separate hits. So I guess despite the light color, all the goodies are sucked out for the most part.

You've got a broken hopper or you aren't doing something right.

indeed I did something wrong, with a slower draw it works perfectly :)

it's a whole different experience from the muad'dib and it feels easier on the lungs. Better mixed with air as well. I only used a little dab since my tolerance is low. do you perhaps know what happens if I fill a lot in the gh? will I rather get more hits or denser clouds (probably stupid question but I want to know if I can fill 0.05 and use it without refilling more times a day)?

In my experience you will get more hits. The cloud density may increase a bit, but what I noticed most was an increase in hits. I like to use concentrates for those times I'm not able to reload as easily, it works great.

Your first AVB picture looks perfect to me. Second one is a bit darker than I generally like to go as there really ain't much goodness left between good and too dark...as you noted.

Glad you got it going.

I've been Hopping for awhile now. I am able to get my ABV as dark as I choose. I never go higher than 4.5 temp...and never go through water. I do notice that it is sometimes not possible to get full extraction (some green remains) when on a low battery. It can be deceiving because you can still get hits on low battery....but cannot fully extract the material maximally (is that a word?). New battery and wammo...back to the shades of brown.

If you are a cloud chaser stop reading now. The above taught me that you need not use max heat and produce dark brown material to fully extract. The low temps on the GH really do provide excellent and varying effects. I too don't want to waste material and tend towards browning the ABV....but I do not want my ABV dark brown.

On the outside, hes a calm, possible mid twenties young man who is enjoying the book between his hands, holding a pen, drinking his tea, and enjoying the sunny afternoon.

But on the inside, his lungs are panicking as they try to not erupt in an explosive coughing fit of flavorful, potent vapor. As the urge to cough builds, a bead of sweat appears on the young mans brow. Fear sets in.

He's fine. He's fine.
Nope.
Wait yeah.
He's fine.

I think these are some wise words. I'll try to keep that in mind when I'm "Hoppin". My other vape can get my herb black if wanted, so just something I gotta get used to with this new device.

@AJS when are gonna write that anger management book? Or at least 365 positive affirmations, one for each day of the year. I remember when we used to sit back and guess about the arrival dates, and whether or not this vape would do the trick. Well, it does the trick for me. I am used to the profile, the little rituals that lend to a prime session. I really am so f'n blown away by my 2nd pair of hoppers that I will probably gift away my Milaana, no offense RBT!
Between my vapcaps and my hoppers my highness has escalated and my herbage has accumulated.

Excellent post, Jabba!
I've had my long spat of being in the conundrum of how dark the ABV is to judge whether I've extracted well enough. I am a bit of a cloud chaser, admittedly, but even with being satisfied with that, sometimes my ABV doesn't seem dark enough because I just don't want to use T5... Yes, I could get more out of the load, but the taste and effect seem not worth the effort at times. And, yes, maximally is a word

I've been finding it difficult to get my herb as dark as I'd like. I rarely go to 5 so that's probably why, but even puffing 4.5 until no vapor production does not yield as dark of abv as the flavor seems to tell me...

This is from 4.5:
qbET113.jpg

I think it tastes darker than it looks because I spend a lot of time on low temps, which suck out all the
resins and terpenes. Still doesn't really explain why I can't get it darker than this at 4.5?

I realize there have been several points discussed about ABV and extraction the last page or so... All very helpful (slow pulls, T-settings), and my 2 cents here is, the drier the flower, the greater the cloud. I find that the more consistently I dry whatever strain I'm using, the more reliably I cam expect the color of the ABV to be...

Been on biz travel with my hopper and I just love the stealth. It's so stealthy I feel like Mr. Bean and want to flaunt it like, "Look!! I have a secret! I have a secret!"

But seriously, folks... Very happy with the experience of being in a potentially hostile herb environment and no one is the wiser.

Lol. I'm still finding my way with it but it offers me much enjoyment, and a lot to mess with and perfect. Don't think it can pass up the Milaana for me, but it's definitely a fantastic vape, well worth the mullah, and the tech is, of course, fantastic.

On that note, I got low battery light halfway through my first bowl on a full battery. Got big vapor the next two rips and I'll see later if it actually dies before this bowl ends. Maybe they were just randomly flickering? Again, we'll see later when I continue vaping...set for now :)

This frequently happens with my hoppers but it seems that if I do a quick 1/4-turn loosen and tighten of the backend, it is remedied. I believe that, since the flickering is a designed response to current level detection, the extra resistance in the circuit of a suboptimal connection will emulate the condition of a ready-to-die battery. I dunno for sure, but it sounds really intelligent. :haw:

Haha so you came back around over here huh buddy? I always enjoy following your journey

Yeah I've been getting some good use from my SS lately too, making me re appreciate it despite my analog leanings. Using it in a bar with live music was pretty perfect with a full bowl and low low temps, there are many situations where it is beyond useful...

@AJS glad you are enjoying it too, it certainly has its place, but we know there are many fantastically effective on demand vapes available now :ko::tup:

Hi there,

Just some information about HL's warranty system.
From making my warranty claim to having the replacement mouthpiece shipped took nearly a month.
Add at least ten days to get it in my hands… Thats 40 days without my GH. Maybe lots of people have a good warranty experience but mine is really bad. For the second time!
I've waited two years between backing and getting it. So I'm really fond of the concept but the way they are treating my demands makes me want to get rid of it.

BTW do they send you a tracking number... or notify you that it has been send?
also do you habe to sign when reciving it , because it is possible I will be abroad at this time and sometimes if it is not to sign the, postman leaves the package in front of my door, that would not be nice when I am abroad for one month.... also which international mail service do they use?
have also to deal for the first time with a warranty issue... and I am also from europe... hope it will return faster....
the gh is my daily driver (no more plug in vape or portable needed)

That seems like an excruciatingly long wait for such a simple fix, really, a new mouthpiece? Did they just send you the MP or did you post your GH away?

When I sent mine in, from practically as far away as you can be, I had a 4 week turn around, which was nearly all postage - they had the device for 7 days, incl. a weekend, and took 4 days to respond to my request telling me to post it. Far from immediate, but bearable. Admittedly, I think they were the longest weeks of the year for me though.. haha, definitely notice the hoppers absence.

@btka you get a tracking number with the return via USPS

sorry so long!

My warranty experience(s) have been different than yours. The Good: My SS GH got a VERY hot back end and Hopper sent me a new back end quickly. After receipt I sent my old back end back to them. The bad: The new back end gets similarly hot and they requested that I send the entire unit back to them. The good: They responded quickly after receiving my unit and explained that they could not duplicate the problem. I asked them to allow the battery to partially drain and re-test. The bad: 6 days later...I got a notice that they are returning my unit. I inquired as to what repairs had been completed. Hopper responded, "As previously stated, your Hopper tested to operate in the acceptable heat range. I tried retesting the unit multiple times with a nearly drained battery but was unable to recreate the excessively hot Back End. Nothing was replaced on your device. Play around with it a bit when you receive it and try placing your hands on the middle section of the device if you feel the Back End is getting too hot. I apologize that I was not able to replace your Back End, but the heat was well within the acceptable range. "

Secondarily, I never posted this prior....but my new Ti arrived with a misshapen back end. The battery compartment was perfectly round, however, the back end which screws into the compartment was oblong....thus left a sharp gap when screwed on. Prior to my first use of the Ti I had to file a warranty claim. I wasn't expecting an apology from HL and I got none. HL replaced the back end and returned the unit to me promptly. It was an inconvenience, however, in terms of warranty service it was reasonably quick.

I cannot really complain about their service. Hopper received my unit(s) and responded reasonably quickly. I think 6 days to not do anything with my SS unit is a bit excessive, but I'd expect that Hopper wishes to deter owners from sending their units in for service continually for issues that Hopper Labs feels are 'non-issues'. Additionally, HL is no doubt a busy place. Beware...don't send your unit in unless it is faulty.

This brings me to the point of my post: I love my Grasshoppers (I have both SS and Ti units...primarily to have a backup). Currently my Ti back end is not getting hot, however, at times it does indeed get very hot. My SS consistently gets VERY hot (despite Hopper Labs findings) and heats up like a coil the moment the on button is depressed. You can feel the back end get hot MUCH faster than you can feel the heater unit (mid/front section). Despite this fact, HL found it to be "within the acceptable heat range". I'd think that most of us find no reason for the rear end of this vaporizer to produce any heat whatsoever. When our back ends produce heat...at times seemingly excessive heat...it is startling and seems possibly a potential safety issue. I'm frankly surprised that the negative end of my battery hasn't melted inside the unit! Clearly hot back ends are "normal" within "acceptable ranges". Perhaps if Hopper Labs could provide some (even rudimentary) explanation(s) relating to 'common issues' relating to their product, many (if not most) of us could be subdued...and thus eliminate the (seemingly) excessive and potentially unnecessary warranty claims. Clearly some Hoppers are simply failing completely, however, Hopper Labs must be getting an awful lot of hot back end (and other apparently unnecessary 'within tolerances' warranty claims which surely do not help them with their backlog issues or customer retention issues.

I reiterate....I love love love my Hopper(s). I HIGHLY recommend the product. So much in fact that if I were a Shark Tank host...I'd gamble a LOT of money on this game changing product. Before I committed my hard earned money, however, I would be certain that Hopper Labs employ a business and marketing professional to better facilitate and handle the business, marketing, consumer knowledge base & information, and public relations side of their organization. Once they have the right person handling their business relations...sky is the limit. This product (imo) so exceeds the PAX and similar HIGHLY successful vapes....it is like comparing an AMC Gremlin to a Ferrari Testarossa. Quite simply, if some of our issues are in fact "within tolerances", please let us know what to expect and what tolerances are acceptable. This would reduce consumer frustration and warranty claims...and increase production. Communication is key.
