Discontinued The Grasshopper

All who wander are not lost...
Finished new battery #2 which was the same as #1: 3 full loads. My temp is still fairly low (average 2.7 and getting 3-4 draws per fill). I don’t see so far how these are any better than previous ones but I’ll hold my tongue until I run through all 5 new ones, soon, and submit a full synopsis. Maybe they need a re-charging. The nice thing however and not to be overlooked is my repaired Hopper is running well. Perfect for staycation week! Stay tuned for more battery updates...:peace:

Appreciate the feedback on the new batteries. For perspective, I am running 5-6 hits on a battery. Level 5 is the only real vapor production. This is with an older Ti model. My newer Ti will do 1.5 chambers on a battery, with the first 2 hits set at 4. Anything to the left of 4 on all 3 of my hoppers is useless. I will crush these remaining cells lifeless and then reconsider throwing double the funds for new cells that sound like they perform just like the last batch. I know we throw a lot at these batteries, but with all new guts and a fresh cell, the average user should be able to get 3-4 chambers well done, yes????? I can live with 2-3 good rips at level 5 just because I love the effects and stealth factor. With advances in tech for the Hopper, heater, circuitry, are the latest models gonna be the best yet? We shall see indeed, Grasshopper.

How many seconds per draw? Are you letting it stay on between draws or are you clicking off? If you're clicking off, are you doing a draw while it's off to cool down the load, or are you letting it stay warm for the next draw?
Roughly 5 second draws, sometimes close to back-to-back or I may wait a minute or two between draws. I turn it off and keep inhaling to get remaining vapor. I usually do one rip per on/off cycle. I’m getting decent vapor, better than pre RMA, and AVB is close to amber (lightly roasted) which is understandable since my temp is fairly low. :peace:

Old & In the Way
I have 2 new batteries and a recently upgraded grasshopper. Life is good; that root canal yesterday hasn't even phased me!
Keep in mind these new batts are still GHB2's. I don't believe they're supposed to be better spec than previous, except to the extent they are in good condition, still early in their life cycle. We can expect they should be better than older crappy GHB2's. In my instance this is absolutely the case as the 'new' hopper was barely able to get to temp using older batteries, and it would only yield vapor if puffed very slowly, so as not to over-tax the battery.

Older batts could barely finish a chamber; new batts are lasting for 3 at about 5-6 hits each (8-12 sec. or so) with very fast heat up time.

Another hopper we have can still go about 2 chambers with the old batteries. I haven't tried newer batts in this hopper yet.

I get tired of removing/replacing batteries from hopper and charger so my lazy tendency is to just put hopper onto it's oem charger when not in use (I remove it at night 'cause the blinking is obnoxious in the bedroom!). I also keep a charger in the car.

I am getting approx 16-20 12 second draws on a touch over 4 with my new dark grey Hopper and my best batteries.

Those draws are click on, wait for blue, draw til ya feel heat(about 6 secs), click off and continue draw for 6 secs. Clouds are large.

I am impressed with that.

Indeed impressive! Draw strength plays a part too; everyone’s is different. Mine isn’t particularly strong on low temps.

On my 4th (of 5) new battery now - and trying a new strain :):peace:

Ran my one really good working GH last night with the new batteries.

The old batteries weren't all that old nor had very many charge/discharge cycles on them....but that's a completely subjective view as I did not keep track.

Hell, I can't even keep track of how many bowls I get from a battery....I keep forgetting where I'm at on the count! hahaha

But, I do sort of think that 3-4, running at 4.2 or so, is about all I have ever gotten out of GH batteries (but again, me the moron has never really kept a log of this).

I do know my older GB-1 batteries would only last three loads and the last one was a bit questionable.

In any case, slotted in a new, full charged battery and oh boy, did it work just like when new. Very hard hitting, def hotter than with the older batteries. Why this should be, since both were fully charged, I cannot say but it was apparent from taste and AVB.

Got one working good, one back from a couple of RMA actions and while sort of useable, its no really running hot enough and def is not making the temps that GH publishes. I may send this one back soon but also contemplating getting a new one on Black Friday sale and donating this cool one to a friend (after repair).

Cheers

@voodoo_vape the post you quoted was referring to battery specs. If you mean “immediate shipment when it comes to ss” to be “if I order an SS hopper today, it’ll ship immediately” then yes, I can confirm that. I ordered one very recently (+ xtra batteries) and it arrived quicker than expected.

Speaking of my new SS toy, I am so very happy with it. I haven’t wanted to say much yet as we’re still getting acquainted, I accidentally bumped the temp once, changing out a battery, and that next bowl damn near killed me before I killed it. No combustion but thick heavy vapour, so different from the smooth potent hits I couldn’t figure out what changed, then recognised the error. This little tiny grasshopper kicks my ass, it was really hard to believe at first, just how well it has performed in the little time we’ve had together.

It’s been just an amazing experience and works incredibly well so far. Sure glad that I tried glass upon the advice of @Baron23 and I have a small piece that it works really well with, I tried it with another slightly bigger and it was milkshake city. I like using it native as well, not been blistering hot so far, and the outdoor temperature here is going to mitigate that anyway.

So much I could say has already been said before, and better. If it continues to work at/near this level, I will be a very happy fool indeed. Do HL typically participate in BF/CM? I don’t know why I’m asking, what more do I need?

TL;DR: Holy Fuck I Am Loving My New SS Grasshopper!

Ran my good Bronze Ti last night watching the Nats put away the Astros in a great game 7 of the World Series. Go Nats!!

So, I did count and I get four bowls off of a full, brand new, battery. This what I expected and no less than I believe Hopper advises to expect.

This was on 4.2 temp through a J hook (can honk pretty good on it with a J hook). Four draws per bowl (yeah, the last draw is mostly a waste but I'm cheap! haha).

So, still the relatively small capacity battery but wow, did I ever get thick, thick vapor and nice dark AVB.

Just what I remember when it was new.

Cheers

so 4 bowls at 4 draws each for a total of 16 draws? about how long was each draw?

really hoping the new batch of grasshoppers are dependable ... i'm gonna wait and see for a bit ...

Good to the last drop (like the old Folger’s commercial). Agreed, the last draw of mine is usually useless but why not try to extract what you can?

I’m getting 3-4 bowls with the new batts too, 3-4 draws per bowl also. It’s about aberage. My temp is much lower howevet. My RMA’d Ti still working well! :) :peace:

when was the order made?
its supposed to be immediate shipping when it comes to ss.. can you confirm that?

A friend and I both ordered dark grey Ti on the 29th before noon. It says 1 day but still no shipping notice. My assumption was that the accessories I ordered with it had slowed my order down but my friend only ordered the GH and it hasn't shipped either. Guess I shouldn't be surprised... (I'm sure many will think I'm just being impatient; of course I fucking am. Amazon has spoiled the shit out of me).

On a tangential note, I just remembered that I bought a W9Tech Nibbler G back in 2016 when I got my first SS and Ti. I dug it out but I have never used any sort of glass. Can anyone tell me how to fill the thing (and empty it effectively)? It doesn't seem to have come with instructions and I just don't want to screw up my new GH when it arrives. Seems like I should fill it from the bottom but doing that, I can't seem to cover the screen on the bottom. Should the screen NOT be covered (I mean, it would just leak back through, right)? Clearly, this is an incredibly stupid question but this is new territory for me.

Here is what it looks like:

Thanks in advance.

I usually fill my Nibblers with an eyedropper until they bubble just right. Usually just below the lip of the glass inside.

edit: i fill from the top with the eyedropper.

Patience, grasshopper... (who remembers that reference?)

I placed my order on the 27th and was equally antsy. Okay, enough bug references... I was anxious. It took just an extra day or so to get my shipping notice so all is great.

I suggest if you don’t get a shipping email (or your status hasn’t changed in your account) by the 3rd day, shoot them a pm. My bet is that it won’t be necessary.

Have faith and trust in the good vibes coming from this thread now.

@slozukimc, by "lip". do you mean the glass disc that separates the two chambers? So the water DOES cover the bubble thingy in the bottom?

@Mr. Me2, I remember the reference because I'm old. Oh, and I have never had patience. I'm a real treat to drive with.

No. That would be way too much. There is a piece that is around the dome part. The water will only stay in the bubbler up to the top of that. Any higher and it will leak back into your Hopper. Go just under the top of that ring and see how it goes.
