Discontinued The Grasshopper

I want to caution against 'irrational exuberance'. Not to be a Debbie Downer, I feel that the change we're experiencing is in our perceptions and feelings about Hopper Labs in this new light and not the result of data/proof that Hopper Labs have indeed begun to produce highly reliable devices in high percentages.
Maybe it's all true and we've entered the golden age of grasshopper but we need a track record and more hindsight (data) to establish whether that is the case or not.

Very well said...balanced and rational, IMO.

@pxl_jockey - I don't use the GH native very often...mostly at home so mostly through a J-hook or rig...but when I do I indeed like the silicone piece as the MP does get very hot...and I'm not overly sensitive to that kind of stuff.

Reasonably inexpensive, aren't they???

They have arrived and we are shipping them now. Just for FC users with a battery order, send an email to support@grasshoppervape.com with your battery order number and FC in the subject line. I will make sure they get sent today.

Outstanding. Just did it. Thank you.

Wow - sent email to HL about my batt orders (2) and just received reply they were sent out. Thanks, @Hopper Labs !! :):leaf::peace::peace:
@Hopper Labs

@Vaporific - me too!! Sent email, 20 minutes later email saying that they were sent.

Outstanding, thanks, Hopper

P.S. - so, I guess this precludes us having to confirm shipping address???

I just received a brand new dark grey Ti Hopper as a gift from a good friend. It is straight from HL a month or so ago.

Here are my impressions:

First, Holy Fuck Hopper Labs! You guys nailed it with the new heater! This makes my 5th Hopper that I have owned and it is by far the very best. Heat up time is maybe 3 seconds, the back end threads into the body just right so it isn’t putting a lot of extra pressure on things tightening it down to get a good connection, the lights are more steady, avb is all brown now, all the way through the bowl, the button feels better, not sure how to describe it other than smoother and more affirmative. There is no heat in the back end at all and the rest of the unit doesn’t get anywhere near as hot on the outside.

Nice work @Hopper Labs !!!

I just sent my regular Ti in today. Hopefully it works as well as this one when it comes back.

Love hearing this, I have a SS out for delivery with some batteries today!

@vapviking had a great post the other day reminding us to temper our new excitement, and while I couldn't agree more..... this does feel different for some reason, even if it's only it's my internal enthusiasm. Let's get those positive vibes working people and will Hopper Labs into success! It'll be a win-win!

Agreed. While I am enjoying the new Hopper I still have my Dynastash and Omni in my to go kit just in case. Lol

I can’t wait for the day that I feel comfortable telling a friend to go ahead and invest in a Hopper without any sort of warning.

Have you guys watched the videos on the Hopper site? Really gives a little eye opener to how small of an operation Hopper Labs really is. I am impressed they have made it this far and hope to see them at the top one day.

I'm getting so excited, even though it'll still be a while before mine lands. I really want this to be my truly portable out & about, at the seaside/nature walk, quick hit on a busy city street solution. Vapcap and IH are doable but it's a pretty exposed heating operation and doesn't really look like anything else. Looking natural and easy, every movement second-nature - if you can manage this, you can get away with most anything anywhere ime. Look like you're being sneaky or out of place, doing anything that's rather strange will attract unwanted attention. Not a concern if no-one is around on a dog walk but it becomes too difficult for an old putz like me to walk while watching both where I'm going and what's going on around me, and then add to that holding the IH in my left hand and a Vapcap in my right, trying to get satisfying hits, all whilst trying to look as nonchalant as possible. A preloaded hopper sounds soo much better.

With the hopper's bowl, seems like you can get 2-3 really good hits and its power and vape signature are famous for being unlike anything else and that's what I need: quick and powerful delivery that I can hit quickly, get some relief and attitude adjustment for the second half of a day out somewhere. So the Hopper really fits a niche that I desperately need to fill and hopefully, since I won't be relying on it in a full-time, day in & out capacity I hop. Honestly makes me a little giddy to think I'm going to know what the Grasshopper is all about instead of forever wondering! I'm trying to quit putting things off (within reason) and saying "Someday I'll..." and never doing the "..."

I totally agree with @vapviking about not get carried away with ourselves until there is more data gathered and more time has passed. That's fair because if HL is to succeed, there has to be that moment where things come together and a corner is turned and things take off. I understand this is all very recent but I do think it might really be that moment, I think mainly due to the no-marketing-BS communication here which sounds completely different to the blatant spin of emails past. But in any event, I don't think you're a Debbie Downer my friend. Maybe a little Patty Pragmatic sometimes but that's one of the things we love about ya!

@Baron23 On the silicone mouthpiece, it's not a matter of price ($6) so much as do I really need it. I thought the PFE mated perfectly to 14mm glass? Anyways, I'm sure I'll grab one to try whenever I pick up the leather sleeve. Thanks! :peace:

@Mr. Me2 Thanks for that post, I'm happy to report I got the spiral stand for loading, mini-funnel for same, the individual battery caps x 2 and two of his 3-battery holster (the ones you need two to fully encapsulate three batteries). I think there might be something else I'm forgetting. *SHOCKER* I really liked the sold-out leather pouch, and got excited when I saw that more were expected to arrive until I saw that announcement was dated 2017! :D Also, I want you to know this as a friend, I'd already gone to Delta 3D and bought all that stuff well before I saw your post, so what I'm trying to say I guess is: Thanks for Nothing! Except I think I knew to go to Delta 3D because of one of your advertisements for him. So there ya go, I really do owe you some credit and thanks. But then again, it's really more of a statement of how much I look up to you. You've always been like the freaky brother I never had, with those floppy ears and that goofy smile, a big furry walking guide for psychedelic mushroom tours.

HEY @Hopper Labs !!! I know you've only just sent my stuff so I technically shouldn't have anything to complain about, right? Well, guess again! Yep, I'm sure you know what's coming: Steel Case & Hopper BC What's the dealio? Both have an estimated 2019 release in the store but is that still realistic? If it's not, if you know there is absolutely no freakin way, you should replace that with Coming Soon! or something but not necessarily give a new time estimate. Timelines rarely works out when you're innovating, whether a sophisticated charger or a funky case. A estimated release date always seems to bite the manufacturer and disappoint the weirdos who get excited about this type of shit.

@Hopper Labs: I can’t express how great it is to finally have your presence in the forum. We may have high standards and be very critical but we are also a very understanding and forgiving group. Openness, honesty, and communication are key to this. While I understand your reasons for your previous silence it led to many people assuming the worst. The tone of the thread has changed completely since you joined, even though you have not told us very much that we didn’t already know.

General queries;
Is there a simple process by which one can measure the integrity of their battery at home? I'm dependent on trial/error atm the moment. I have a Nitecore D2 charger that will run any of my batteries up to 4.2 volts, with a readout of that progress.

The manufacturer already answered and it is not easy to be 100% sure of the exact health of your battery. However, in my experience with three batches of batteries, 10-15 total, I have found one way to get a rough idea of your battery’s health. It requires an external charger with a display. Any battery, even well used should charge to 4.2 volts. I have found that a fresh battery when fully depleted will read less than 3.7 volts on the charger. Generally 3.65 and up. That number gradually raised as all of my batteries aged. At the point I feel they need to be replaced they usually read 3.83 after the Grasshopper displays its low battery warning.

I thought the PFE mated perfectly to 14mm glass?

@Baron23 answered this very well already but I would like to add that the PFE mates perfectly to perfect glass. Some cheap glass has slight imperfections in the female joint which may lead to a less than perfect seal.

I am on an extended break from vaping so I don’t have much else to add but the positive tone of this thread is making me want to end the break sooner rather than later. Best wishes to everyone reading and I hope to hear more good news and experiences moving forward.

Thanks for that, good to know because I don’t have cheap glass. And I really appreciate the other stuff you had to say as well. I’ve got a nitecore and xtar and I’m interested if their displays will agree.

@Baron23 Definitely gonna give some different j-hooks a go, I’ve got one that’s sixteen inches long :o that’s going to be perfect for the hopper! So some folks find the metal mp tolerable and others don’t and the silicone mp is the solution? I hope my lips are tough enough or my hopper is gentle with me!

Don’t place your lips right on the taper of the tip. The tip doesn’t get as hot on the sides.

Maybe by some fault of our own, people seem to think we are a lot bigger than we are. We really are a very small operation. Most of the work is still being done by the original three founders. We have had a fluctuating number of employees over the years, assembly people and CS. All of the design and engineering is still being done by the original three. We have had the smallest crew since the founding days, throughout 2019, and have been more productive than ever. Hard work is paying off.

Thanks for the input. We are working on them now but the release date is definitely in flux. It might not be a bad idea to switch it to "comming soon" until we are more for sure. There are still a lot of variables with production, assembly, and testing. The schedule for late 2019 is still very possible but as you aptly point out, rarely do timelines work out perfectly. Once again sorry for the delays with these products.

After my last repair the hopper was still completely non functional. HL asked me to ship it back and they would get it fixed ASAP and returned. It was delivered to them before October and on October second they said they "didn't see it" so I sent a screenshot of the USPS tracking showing it delivered. I asked what the deal was on Oct 22 and on Oct 24th received a message saying "We should see some movement by next week."

I just learned my batteries will be in today's mail -- they're early. This is super news!.
Awesome news!

I just figured out that one of my newer Hopper batteries is not right. It only charges to 4.1v and the Hopper will only work on the high setting bit not very well. Lights flash and it doesn’t power up right. Toss another one in and it is back to great again.
Hoping the new batteries improve a lot of folks experience!!

A flawlessly working Grasshopper, while elusive, is a thing of great beauty.
Perhaps slightly less elusive as of late. My RMA’d unit continues to work like new and from what I’ve gathered herein, new units seem to work fairly well. I only personally know a couple local friends with Hoppers, both bought pre-order units like me, and one just sent in unit for the first RMA (he didnt use it much& is still waiting for the albatross that is the steel case), and the other has two Ti’s that still work - I borrowed one for a bit while my unit was in RMA and it worked OK but the heater didn’t seem to really keep up like my repaired unit is doing now, using my same batteries.

Coupled with HL’s recent presence herein things are indeed looking up, with both RMA’d units and new ones. I do think the new heating assembly is working well. My backend was not replaced.

I thoroughly cleaned my unit the other day - gentle ISO on q-tips for the body and backend including threads and backend terminal, ISO soak of the standard mouthpiece, and Blu Tac on all threads. It works simply well. Just a couple of draws on 2.7 using it natively (sans silicone tip) and I get some nice clouds, not too hot for the lips, and let me tell you the effect with the Hopper is a bit deeper than my Fury 2. I’ve been using the Hopper daily since it’s return (why not? :) ) and I forget how this, when working well and consistently, is a great everyday and all round vape. Plain and simple. I live in a legal state but still appreciate the quick heat up time and size of the Hopper. Always great for on-the-go or even around the house.

In all honesty, I’ve bashed HL in the past and my tone has been more conciliatory recently with the return of my working Ti, their presence herein, and the imminent arrival of new batteries (indeed I only have 2 decent ones left - I can’t wait to see what the new ones will do with the new heating assembly. I may need to bring out glass filtration, which is seldom do, to celebrate).

Things are indeed looking up - and it’s Sunday too. Happy weekend all.:peace:

Units have been lost, units have been put in the wrong place or the wrong line, we are not perfect but are trying our best. If @GrandWazoo or anyone else has a unit that is this delayed please contact us and we will get it taken care of. We will locate the unit or replace it. We have never lost someone's unit and not replaced it. I apologize that the warranty situation has been so long. Waiting even 1 month for a warranty unit seems much longer than ideal.

Thank you so much , I will copy and paste your message on my GH account .

Very happy of my dark grey Ti Hopper since it came back from rma! There is some minimals bugs but nothing really cumbersome and it appears there is more bugs using a depleted battery.

Got some issues with dirty threadings so I decided to stop to switch batteries everyday and stick with one in the Hopper and only charge it using the magnetic charger. This is seems to help to keep everything clean enough for a good contact. I plan to use this battery until I can't even vape a bowl with it... for now I can vape 2 bowls without issues, I bet I could try a third one but I don't want to push my battery down too much, so I stick with 2 bowls per charge, 5-6 hits per bowl (3 at level 3, 2 at level 4 and, sometimes, a last one at level 5).

All who wander are not lost...
New batteries (5 for me, 2 for a friend) arrived today. Charging them now. I have a Nitecore D4 and I2. One of the first 4 was fully charged compared to the others in the D4; I’ll charge the 5th in a second wave with a couple of my old batts, perhaps in the I2 to see the voltage and time. Honestly, the voltage has always been 4.2 in the I2 and never noticed anything different with any Hopper battery, just the time to charge varies by remaining capacity.

I harp on this a bit as I’ve had a few bad batteries in the past and hope it’s not more of the same with the new inventory. We’ll see soon - I’m off this week from work and doing a staycation so the recently returned from RMA Ti and the new batteries will get lots of time this week too. :leaf::peace:
