Discontinued The Grasshopper

All who wander are not lost...
Sent HL a message day after Turkeygiving and they replied back the next day:

“Your unit has arrived and is in the service department queue. Due to the backlog of devices needing to be upgraded, service can take 60-90 days or more at this time. I don't yet have a more exact estimation do to your device arriving relativly recently. Your Hopper will be returned with new and improved Version 5 parts.”

I’ll check back in with them in a few weeks. “The waiting is the hardest part...”:peace:

....improved Version 5 parts..

do we have any idea what parts this refers to?
I assume the body (and its entirety) and it's just my own assumption. I did not ask for clarification but perhaps I can (we'll see). It could imply and include the back-end but I'm not certain.

My symptoms were two-fold: inconsistent performance with 'ghost' or phantom pulls (my temp didn't vary much, usually 3.7-3.9), and that was before the unit wouldn't turn on (the last straw hence the RMA). I received my pre-order Ti in July '16, it worked well for almost a year and then performance went downhill as described above.

Sounds like body issue to me.. Mine also had its performance significantly dropped at some point and you'd have to toke few times before the 'ovens' bring some vapour.. and then the 'straight to blue' issue came along and that was it..
So theoretically all units now should be of latest version/technology.. They've given me a 5-12 days window to have my body part ready to go so hopefully I'll have something to report back fairly soon... (fingers crossed)

Fingers and toes crossed for you, me and all of us. I think it's a body issue too given the degraded performance but then it wouldn't turn on at all, which was the final straw. I sent it in for RMA right after that. Had I more time - or patience - I might have done some troubleshooting with the backend threads but that never really seemed likely at fault though the backend didn't screw on free-style, i.e. without much effort like some on here profess, but I always had it on tight - and the chamber and front-end were meticulously kept and clean (brushing and ISO).

Hope you get yours back soon. I know mine is in Purgatory for a while - and I only wonder if it will come back like new or continue to have issues. Only time will tell...:peace:

They had the nerve to promote discounted leather sleeves over the Black Friday period. That is so incredibly fucked up.
Did they? No way! It's indeed lame. I didn't hear about any BF deals by them and I get their emails.

My personal leather sleeve story is this: I was promised one as part of my pre-order purchase, for some snafu or delay with the pre-order unit - go figure, the more things change the more they stay the same :D. They ran out of them, the first generation which a buddy of mine has and in which he loaned me since he has 2 Hoppers and sleeves, and I finally got mine - 2nd generation - almost a year and a half after getting my Hopper, which was longer than the initial pre-order from purchase to delivery. How's that for twisted irony? A friggin leather sleeve. But I wouldn't let it go and use it all the time which is why I wanted one from the beginning. And when I was included in some pre-order group and it was promised, why not? The only silver lining is I like the current generation sleeve better. Now, sadly, it's waiting for my Ti to return from RMA; cold leather needs some love.

The more things change the more they stay the same...

Just got hopper back. Even more dented then before it appears. Where I used the sand paper nothing changed.

Very black and dirty when it came back.

About to clean water pieces and give it a run

Edit: ok. 3.5 way too hot. Running at 2.0 now. Working well. Let’s see how long

I opened my most recent (3rd) RMA in February -- they received it in early March. Here it is December, and they informed me that I'm 30 to 60 days out on parts. This is laughably unacceptable. The Hopper is *so good* when it works properly. I wasn't initially turned off by reports of unreliability. "A lifetime warranty!" they said. Bah! Humbug.

FFS...why can these guys NOT make a consistent product. My OG ran best at 4.2, you could run at 5 to finish up and not combust, and at 2 it would just taste a bit.

NOW, after RMA its 5 only if yo want vapor and the AVB is still too green and undone.

They SAID that they have new and much improved test lab and procedures...I throwing the BS flag on this...they are still pumping out units that fail quickly and units with performance all over the map.

Where is our resident Hopper Labs defender. I believe he lives close to these guys and visits with them. How about some simple answers from them to these issues.

FOR YEARS we have watched them BS the community along never once lowering themselves to come here or anywhere else for a discussion of how the owners and users of this device feel about it and the company's performance.

I'm just not that interested in HL anymore....at this point, their lack of engagement is complete and utter rubbish.

Just got a new body after my v5 broke and this body doesn’t allow me to put the pfe or regular mp on. How could they test a unit that can’t even be put together properly. The mp end is just to wide for the mp can’t even screw it I completely. I’m at a loss for works right now :( disappointing. O I just turned it on and it goes instantly blue. Fuckin a. This is so stupid. This will be the 3rd v5 body that doesn’t work

Wow that sucks .

Out of curiosity, does hopper labs comment on this thread ?

Not recently nor do I recall or aware they have. Maybe a long time ago (in a galaxy far, far away). It's a shame but then it would take too much of their precious time since they're doing such a bang-up job with many RMAs (apologies to those still with issues) - and mine too currently in RMA purgatory, which I'm anxious about and don't know what to expect whenever it is returned. :peace:

I am scheduled to get mine back tonight. I had my 3rd RMA received back to me about about a month ago, and like you, it didn't work properly, just wispy clouds. I had to send it right back.

I'm not exactly confident it will work and expect I will have to send it back again. I did love this thing for the quick hit ability.

I'm sure there's no consensus on this, but I'd like to ask what most people jump to when they've given up on their GH.

I've had one of mine in warranty repair for the better part of a year, and now my second one has died (lights go straight to blue). HL sent a "fix" to try (compressed air over the heat sensor) but it did no good. I suppose I've nothing to lose by sending it in for a warranty repair, but realistically, what I can expect is not to have anything for an indeterminate time. That just strikes me as ridiculous. I think we're all agreed that there's nothing like a GH when it works, but since they _mostly don't_ I'm wondering if anyone has thoughts about a reasonable second choice. Thanks!

I would consider a Splinter, Splinter Z or a Lil Bud. All are great but not in a pen format. My Grasshopper works perfectly these days. Run it on 5 as long as I want and no combustion. Still I prefer those other vapes. The Grasshopper gets used regularly and is enjoyed immensely but I don't agree that a working Hopper is necessary the best. It's up there but there are others.

I got 4 RMA, the last one they received on 05 May, so it's 7 months. It's not an incredible or difficult to fix issue because it's a little piece of metal broken in the back end, I thought to have it on holydays, it's about Christmas... Anyway, curious to see when my GH comes back, got a good remembrance of it but damn, got a very good second choice which is the Omnivap. Love it since first sight. It's not so stealthy but very efficient and no issues at all. If I have to stay away from home and have to decide one to take with, that's the one: no batteries, very small and lot lot powerful! Plus Cmon, who of you boys will take the risk to travel abroad with only a GH? If you want to test what I'm saying simple surf the various forums of this wonderful and useful site. Most of them have hundreds of pages magnifying theyr beautiful vapes, people swearing that they got the best and here ? pages and pages of issues. I sayd it long time ago: if also the best fans of GH are serching an alternative, that means game over. Got a life warranty? Ok, thake my RMA and when ready give it back, but I will not invest a buck anymore this side.
