Discontinued The Grasshopper

And here I thought I was cool when I wore out "plethora".

The dial... yes... why have the dial if T1-3 is useless.

There've been some on here that seem to have a finer pallet with terpene appreciation... But other than that, is there anyone who "gets clouds" at T3??

The times my hopper worked I usually used it at t3-4 natively temp stepping t0.5 after a drag or two. I would even use it 2.5-3 in the morning and get decent 'clouds' and consistent abv. Unfortunately my hoppers performance consistently degraded rapidly and after a few days t5 would be what t2.5 was a few days before. I have never experienced combustion under any circumstance at any temp.

Weirdly enough one of my hoppers combusted once (actually the day I was finalizing its resale which I then cancelled) but has been 100% perfect after, thankfully because it was mid December at the time.
I do get some clouds on temp 3-3.5 with moderate white walling. I typically do one hit on 3.25ish and finish with one or two at 4.5 which leaves decent enough ABV. The lower temp tastes much better and is a nicer high for the day/classes, more functional. I stick to low temp before class.
I recommend a low temp and then high temp hit. Appreciate the flavor and then appreciate the high

I ordered my replacement Hopper Dec 20-something last year. Strange that you'd be receiving yours sooner.
That's HL for ya.

Ha! I'd love to think this is the case... but then this:

I get plenty of clouds on temp 2+. I'll make a video a little later and post it.

Edit: Multiple reports of shipped/received warranty repairs on reddit. Looks like things are picking up speed finally over at HL.

Edit 2: Finished making the video. Did a hit on temp 2.5, temp 3, and then temp 2. No clue why I went for that order but that's what happened. If I would've done temp 2 first it would've put out a lot more vapor.

That just boggles my friggin mind. I've never had this experience... I've had two years now with 4 hoppers in my possession (some temporarily), and even thin clouds at T2 has never occurred.

@Cheesequake , do you find big difference with strains used?

Not really. If it's good weed with a lot of trichomes it's going to put out a bunch of vapor. If not it won't. That's been my experience anyway.

My last 2 hoppers only worked at 4 or 5. I had a stainless once that produced clouds at every temp. Then it died. There is no standard grasshopper it seems. Hopefully this makeover will give us a bit of badly needed consistency and reliability. Otherwise I think we'll all go mad:bang:

Hey guys I’ve got an update on my GH. So I’ve tried to get any kind of combustion again and no luck. I’ve taken huge 30 second rips and it can get real dark but never ash.

I’m still loving it. I have not heard back from Olivia about the one time combustion and my promised extra batteries. I’m pretty annoyed about it. The wait for the GH was alleviated by the promise of those extra batteries.

I didn’t really notice the small clicking until I read it here. I’m very aware now. Also it looks like the blue light blinks really fast. I’ve now had the opportunity to witness the auto shut off when you aren’t taking a big enough pull as well as a shut off when it got too hot. With the hot shut off I checked the herb and no ash.

I hit at about 3.5 durning the day and can get big clouds with water. I can hit without water and get decent clouds, if it is packed I can cough hard on a dry hit if I’m not careful. The water of course cools the vapor but also slows down my draw and I really don’t cough on water. Unless I fully pack it and hit for 25 to 30 seconds.

I think the GH has the 1-3 settings for temp for possible other herbs. But even at 3 I can get high and a lot of vapor.

Ok, sorry for the long post. I hope I’ve added to the conversation.

Interesting .. the flashing blue light, historically, has been a sign of your Hopper being fucked or soon to be fucked ... perhaps that is no longer the case!

There were batches with different temp settings in the past for sure. I got my first hopper 12/16. Had to dial to 3 - 3.5 to get visible clouds.
My 2nd (05/17) and 3rd (09/17) had the same performance at 2.0-2.5 (Both were out of the same delivery to VDNM)
My fourth one (11/17) needs 3.0 at least again. And for extracting the rest of the goodies I've to dial it at 4.5-5.0.
I liked performance of my 2nd and 3rd the most. Eager to know performance of the new overhauled hoppers.

Okey okey okey ....

who here has gotten his hopper to literally make a red glowing hotspot between the PFE and the hopper body?

noticed this last night as I was vaping in bed in total darkness, woke up from backpain that I needed to numb and because the PFE was not tightly screwed on it was literally making a "red welding spot" thing in one tiny half a millimeter area

Also explains what I been violently burning my self on last months, always thought I was getting slightly shocked by electric current, turns out my hopper was just trying to spot weld it self stuck to the PFE

well the power the hopper has for its size is freaking impressive

Nah, the flickering blue light when pulling is related to the heater and the charge left in your battery. When your battery is running low, it will flicker more when pulling.

Or if your hopper is messed up. My stainless steel flashes blue on a fresh battery while building up heat at the back end unless I twist the dial back and forth a few times. Then it doesn't flash and works at full power. Regardless of what HL says, in my experience flashing blue lights (unless your battery is actually close to dead) mean you have a problem with your device.

I got a shipping notification from HL overnight that my Ti Hopper maintnance repair shipped out. This Hopper has been in for repair since Nov 3, 2017. I also have a Stainless Hopper that has been in for repair since Dec 15, 2017 as well but no news or updates on HL website re that one. Ti Hopper is supposed to arrive on Monday. Will let you all know my thoughts regarding “improvements” once I get a chance to test it out with a few sessions.

Signed Cautiously Optimistic!

She finally arrived and it's just about perfect (so far.) Less than 5 seconds to blue with no flashing, dial turns nice and smooth, finish overall is very nice. Zero back end heat. Only complaint is the front end threads are kinda fucked. It feels super gritty and bad screwing and unscrewing the front end opposed to my SS where I can literally spin the front end to screw it on the threads are so clean and perfect. Oh well. The PFE is also a different shade of blue than the hopper. I can easily get over that as long as it keeps working as good as it is right now though.

Also the difference in weight is insane. This is the first time I've had SS and Ti side by side and the SS is WAY heavier feeling.

Edit: After cleaning/brushing the threads they'e a little smoother but still kinda gritty.

Edit 2: May just be my units, but drawing through each with the front end off the Titanium has noticeably less restriction. Also just tried my first hit on 2 and got a nice little cloud. I couldn't be much happier right now.

Edit 3: Looking like I'll get at least 2 full bowls off a battery now. Maybe even 3.

Edit 4: 2 full bowls and lots of test pulls and I haven't had to change the battery yet. It's not even flashing and still performing at 100%. I really hope this isn't a fluke. Also solved most of the gritty feeling when screwing the cap on and off. I sanded the inside of the front end because there were some sharp pieces of metal that were scraping on the body as it was being screwed on. Much much smoother now.

Edit 5: 3 full bowls on one battery. Unbelievable.

@Cheesequake, your experience sounds great so far. Three bowls on one battery is insane!

Would you mind shining a light inside the herb chamber and telling us what you see? Is it the white screen with blue temp sensor? You should be able to tell without removing the silver screen.

My SS model with the white screen has noticeably better airflow than my Ti with the blue screen.
