Discontinued The Grasshopper

It's an obsession but it's pleasin'
To be fair, as much as I want to be pissed off and annoyed, I'm just not. The speed at which all of my claims have been dealt with given that I'm in a different continent to HL is remarkable.

First class service and support wins every time and when it works well, the Hopper soon helps me forget the heartache when it dies on me and relegates it to distant memory, until next time that is.... :D
Maybe the hopper is like one of those finicky British sports cars of old - or is that olde? - when they're running well, they're a joy to drive, but the trade-off is the time they must spend in the shop. If you've got a good, reliable mechanic, or a lifetime warranty and great customer service turnaround, the downtime is manageable and worth the payoff when you get back out on the road to GIMsville.

I've been curios I asked earlier but it got hopped:)

Anyone use the hopper with an herb-wax/shatter/hash etc. salad sandwich so to speak? If that makes any sense....:hmm:Wondering if it'll gum

Doin so currently with my solo which is why I ask:spliff: tasty..

I will definitely be trying concentrates in my Grasshopper, but I won't be making any sandwiches. I never was a fan, I prefer the pure taste of a good concentrate to mixing it with flowers, but mixing does create delicious and interesting flavors. It always gets messy for me though.

I prefer to use organic cotton and that's what I'll be putting in my hopper. From my experience using concentrates that way won't be harmful or messy at all. I seem to remember other people saying cotton works fine recently.

Hmmm good to know ima bit of a concentrate noob (old school combuster..gone vaper) didn't know that was possible....just regular cotton....it won't slightly burn the cotton at all? Sounds cool..

Organic cotton is preferred but not necessary. Don't use Q-Tips as there is adhesive on the cotton. I found some organic cotton balls at my local natural foods store, I heard some e-cig stores carry organic cotton specifically for vaping.

I wouldn't worry about hurting your grasshopper. If the concentrate is covered in cotton and can't be seen, it won't leak out. It might leave slightly more reclaim than flower but that's all. Cotton is highly absorbent and can absorb 27 times its weight in water.

I've been using cotton to vape concentrates for a while and never had an issue.

Edit: I forgot to mention temperature. In my experience cotton can hold up to any temperature that flowers can without combusting, possibly even higher temps than possible with flowers. I'm sure it will eventually scorch and taste terrible but most vapes with preset temps aren't even capable of this.

Nailed it mate, exactly that... I'd still buy another and will do when I can get my hands on one from @VapeFiend.com.

ive made sandwiches, and just put straight shatter in cotton, multiple times. either work without issue, no gumming up or clogging with either. you do have to be careful how much you load, no slab dabs haha.

you definitely need to jump straight to temp 4 or higher with concentrates in my experience for maximum hits/clouds, no temp stepping.

I've done it loading the bottom with flower and putting a dab in cotton on top, works great! Highly recommended  It's a great way to get the GIM!

So I have an opportunity to get a Grasshopper from my buddy who ordered a year ago and now is moving to Japan so he cant take it with him, actually probably wont even get there in time before he leaves. A month or so ago I would of taken it 100%. But now after Vapecritics review I feel like its not for me. I already have a crafty and an Air. Does it really get that hot? Is it worth buying regardless?

Hi guys - I know that in the 371 pages of posts, all of the tips and tricks for using the GH are in there. But....I can't find time to dig them all out so forgive me as I know these questions have been answered before:

I was lent a GH yesterday to try out. I used chunky hand ground and filled the chamber. Worked pretty darn good and all though the mouthpiece without silicon nipple did get warm when hitting back to back, it was tolerable and I'm really looking at this vape as the instant on, 1-3 hitter, that I have been looking for.

Do you agree:
  • Ground should be coarse or chunky? Or doesn't it matter?
  • Doe orientation matter (e.g. straight up or down vs horizontal...didn't seem to make a difference to me
  • I started at 3.5 and liked the taste very much. Bumped up to a little over 4 and got a bit of a burnt taste although absolutely no combustion shown in AVB. What temp do you like for nicely dried herb and do you ever taste a bit of popcorn?
  • I turned the vape on and off for each hit. Given the auto shut off timer, heat, etc this seems like the way to go. Comments?
I actually am liking this vape on my limited experience of last night and am looking forward to exploring the GH experience more.

My biggest concern, well concerns, are failure rate (and yeah, I know we tend to hear of problems more than "it just worked"). Someone posted that GH believes they are having a 5% failure rate but wow, so many people seem have had to RMA their vape back up to 5-6 times (one guy saying this is his 9th RMA). I just wish I had a bit more confidence in its reliability. Also, wish I had a bit more confidence that they would ship within the next millennium if ordered direct LOL

Cheers

Couldn't you just sell it if you didn't like it?

It's apparently pretty subjective on the topic of heat. I don't have a problem while others like vape critic seem to.

You will want the condom or water if you are going to try to use it as a session vape. However, I usually only need one or two hits because they are so strong.

Considering you already have two high end portables, I think the real question is do you have a need for a super stealthy on demand portable? If you do, it's probably worth dealing with the Grasshopper's shortcomings. If not then you're probably better off saving your money.

Take the hopper you're gonna love it! It's BY FAR my favorite and most frequently used vape including Firefly2, Pax, and mivape

I totally agree with you @Vapor_Eyes. Also sometimes I get the organic cosmetic pads that have been pressed and flattened, and cut them into circles a little bigger than the GH chamber. I put a blob of oil on one, place in the oven, and lightly cover with the other just to keep any oozing at bay. The flavor is fantastic and I am amazed how much vapor can come from a small amount of oil this way.

Does anyone else have about 1mm space between the dial and backend? The buttons spring seems to push them a little apart, but only about 1mm.

My Ti has no gap and my SS unit does have a bigger gap.

So basically no problem and might even be a functional solution because it keeps the dial more firmly on the selected setting? Mine also can be pushed down so its easier to roll the dial and then it looks like seamless without the gap.

I feel like maybe it's due to the electric properties of both? For the most part, I've seen Ti hoppers without the gap and most new SS hoppers with the gap. I sent my SS for warranty and the new back end had a gap, before it didn't.

my stainless gh has a different looking frontend then the body ... it is only a esthetical thing.... but does someone else noticed his frontend is more shiny then body...

otherwise I am very happy with my purchase (although I waited more then one year for it) but have it since 3 days....

Well, I guess no comments or replies. That's alright, I also frequent a number of clay shooting sites for trap and skeet. The perennial questions there that get people rolling their eyes are "7 1/2 or 8 shot size" and "what choke should I use". I suppose my questions are the GH equivalent LOL

Well I will be honest some of your questions seem to be related to general vaping questions.

1. It doesn't seem to matter but I would imagine reality plays a role. I've had some really fine grind well dried powder.. packed into the heater end of the chamber. Hit gh facing down. Got combustion... Another thing I have noticed sometimes with too fine the screen does not pick up the tiny particles. You then get dust jn your throat. Looking at the screen it seems obvious why. So a medium to broken up nug seems to work. Conversely it is a convection vape so the physics of evaporation apply.

2. Generally doesn't seem to matter. Some common sense, see 1.

3. Depending on if I have more batteries or green on hand I optimize one or the other. If I have plenty of batteries but stash is short.. I step up to 5 from 2. Usually get 6-10 hits depending on quality. If I am running low on batteries I start at 3.5 and take stronger rips. Usually 4 to 6 rips. Rips per bowl.

4. Turn on hit it, 75% of hit turn off, and continue to suck until it cools as it is off. Usually a couple seconds. Maybe whyou I haven't had as much heat issues.

As a last none I have com busted twice, but it was never as bad as other vapes.. as in burning the entire thing. It's like there is one single ember and it goes out quickly.
1. I packed the bowl way too full with really sticky stuff. Air flow was super tight compared to normal. Think too much heat built up.
2. Described in the first #1 above. I think some powder got onto the heater? Or too close.. did not see any ash in the chamber.
