Discontinued The Grasshopper

I admire the optimists, I too always want to stay optimistic. And I agree that there's prob more bad press the FC community sees, and there are prob a lot of good working units we'll never hear about. But from an overall numbers standpoint, it's tough to stay positive with the overwhelming amount of bad stories vs the handful of success stories. Averages don't often lie.

If (say) 30 people on FC reported getting a hopper, and (say) 15 were bad, that's a 50% success rate. I don't believe the average of people we never hear from is any different. The only outlier is the fact that some post on FC and others don't. Would the numbers be different for 30 non FC posters that got hoppers? I don't believe so. Then, add on that, that one unique person may have multiple issues with bad units, now the # of instances rises (but the customer headcount does not) making the success rate even lower.

Related: My buddy's hopper was sent back last eek. They got it on Dec 8 and it's slated to be delivered back to him on Dec 18. So, a ten day turnaround time for those of you keeping score at home.

Many vapes & accessories. Always happy to help
Whatever it is, I hope it attempts to explain the problems people have been having with their GH's that fail. GHL never seems worried but it seems like there are a lot of fails for some reason and I hope it doesn't end up hurting them and that they get to the bottom of it for good. Its a great device and people really like them but they can't keep it up if they keep failing. I don't know why some GH's seem fine, work without any problems, while others don't work from the very start or something happens very quickly. My GH's are still going strong, I haven't had an issue with any of the GH I own or have tested, 4 or 5 in total (own 2 ). I have noticed if you "stutter" press the on/off, like really quickly and not fully depress the clicker, the lights will flash red but when that happens, I just click it all the way to turn on then off again.

Is it still possible to use the "unofficial stealth mode" by just pressing and holding the clicker (instead of actually clicking it on) so that the heater comes up with no lights? Read about this on here months ago - but no one ever reposted that or commented further... I think this might still be very interesting! So, if you could check on that, greatly appreciated! Go Justin!! :D :)

I requested a refund on my November preorder a couple days ago and still haven't heard anything back yet. I emailed them again this morning to make sure they received my request. May have to open a PayPal dispute if I don't hear back in the next 48 hours.

All these stories of failed Grasshoppers don't make me confident enough to keep my money with them right now. I'll just wait until it looks like they have their production issues sorted out.

Also, the lack of an update isn't very reassuring either.

This whole update being late for the first time I think is going to bring either really good news or really bad news. Right now I'm glad that I got my refund a bit ago, cause either they are having serious problems or something unexpectedly awesome is going to happen. I really hope it's the awesome thing cause I really want to eventually be able to buy a working hopper from them.

I'm still waiting for mine too, but I am constantly entertained by the paranoia of people. It is a new technology in a developing market. That is why the pre-order price is cheaper...! Feel free to pay full price once the manufacturing bugs are gone and product is keeping pace.
Note: I don't not suspect a design flaw. It is so difficult to find capable and competent assemblers in the US these days. I imagine this is the CruX of the issues.

Maybe it's just because I have a manufacturing back ground, but I can only imagine all of the challenges they have over come.

Also I will verify for anyone who doubts that 90% of the time. The only time you hear mass amounts of feedback, is when something is wrong. Everything good, works as it should, people never come out in large numbers to praise the manufacturer. It is simply expected.

Anyway I'll keep waiting. I'm not afraid of losing my money, nor am I in an emergency need. Just thought I would try to give some voice of reason. Think what you will, but mass production is not easy. It's not like they have a team of brilliant engineers to figure everything out in a day either. I commend these guys for producing an innovative design and trudging through the manufacturing process.

Lastly it's a bummer the update is late, but it was always vague and mostly bs anyway. People are recievino them and they aren't out of business. Geez I thought stone's were supposed to be chill?..

I've been on the forum for a bit now. That is exactly what I've seen with the grasshopper. I'm not saying there aren't problems, but am saying it probably isn't as wide spread as it seems... people love to bitch but often forget to give praise. That doesn't change on this forum. I've seen plenty of amazing reviews for the gh. Just most people seem to want to cry. 'I didn't get an instant response to my email'.

Well if anything it appears they have had design struggles for two years. Finally they were able to produce a product, and ran into manufacturing issues. It's been obvious from day one the founders did not have much actual manufacturing experience. So I expected it.

This has been an interesting process. Guess if anything u have given me much better insight what I need to do when I start my own company. Cheers

I will say this...extra batteries are a must !bypassing all the other things they need to fix or improve on I'd say stronger more powerful batteries are a must. Even though the current ones aren't that bad. I just around 5-7 bowls on one batt depending on load size ,grind etc. The extraction still amazes me along with the form factor.

Are you just nit picking at this point? Already said I've seen plenty of great reviews..

Just not the thousands that one would expect based on the number of units sold....

Just to say I have had a hopper for a week now and I'm happy with it. I haven't been on to praise it as have nothing to add to what has been said.
And I think the battery is excellent for its size. My battery in hopper lasts longer than battery for mflb for example.

Been lurking around on FC for a while, and have been meaning to post in this thread for a while as well. I was a Dec 2013 backer (who fully understood the risks when I backed, and did it anyway) and I received my titanium GH almost 2 weeks ago. Mine has been working flawlessly, and it really is something. I was hoping for a quick little vapor one hitter that my wife and I can share when out and about, and it meets that need perfectly. If anything, it almost works too well as we've found ourselves hitting 7 or 8 when aiming for more like a 5 haha.

I agree with the notion that people are more likely to post about issues than successes, as this is true all across the internet with pretty much anything tech related. That said, I do think that there are plenty of people having real issues, but am still hopeful that GHL will get these worked out. I really want to see what a v2 of this device will be like. I also suspect that many of the issues may be related to how the charger works. I bought several extra batteries, and am charging them using a nitecore d2 and just swapping them as needed as that is much more convenient to me than hooking it up to a usb port.

So you can add me to the tally of hopper owners who (so far, anyway) have not had any problems with it.

Nice! Be sure and come back if it craps out in a week though ;). Just messing. Glad yours is good. The Ti's seem to have a better success rate.

I'm not canceling any of my (close to $600 worth of) orders. I'll get 'em some day, and if they don't work they'll get sent back for repairing. It's just a vaporizer.

I just wish they'd be a little more transparent. And not with the updates, they don't even have to do those, I'm talking with basic customer communication.

No one needs to be mislead. I don't care how new to business they are.

did someone e-mail ghl to ask why there is no update?

also to be realistic this is a new product and also tech. take a look at the crafty or mighty threads. s&b is a well known manufacturer of quality vaporizers more then 10 years in the market and there was also a lot of warranty issues do not know how it is now (not wathcing this thread close nowadays) and if you consider that the tech in the crafty is not as high tech as the grasshopper ...
also people with negativ experiences with a product/service more often make them public, then peolpe with positiv...

and I know the e-nano thread I am also a big fan of this vape but it is also a well esteblished vape and the tech is also nearly as "high tech" as the grasshopper tech...

by the way did I mention I would like to recive my grasshopper soon hahaha

I got my Hopper back about a week ago and it's kicking ass! When I first tried it I thought it was going to be too hot to use without the silicone tip. I have adjusted my technique and draws speed now so I can now use it naked without discomfort. Of course I'm using in when running it through water and this thing rips!

Nice Scott!

Have you tried it through one of your vapor tamers yet? This is actually the vape that had me wanting one the most...

Will probably be in touch soon per our last discussion since I have a whip and adapter coming for Evo too, should make it easy to use with any vape this way really.

I have noticed if you "stutter" press the on/off, like really quickly and not fully depress the clicker, the lights will flash red but when that happens, I just click it all the way to turn on then off again.

This is what made me send in my Hopper, actually. I'd say this is the thing to be most cautious about for user error. It seems most of the ones that are defected are so via some internal issue, maybe shipping or just a mistake in hand made vapes (seriously, it's bound to happen with few calibrated machines putting together tiny parts). However, backend mis-click can be a killer, so forewarning friends. Also, warn your friends when they use it. You don't want some drunk slob breaking it (phew that was close).

So far, dropping it, pressing the clicking mechanism wrong or at a bad angle (you'd know if you felt it), and of course, pushing air through the device (not inhaling) are what you can do to fuck up your Grasshopper. :goon:

:sherlock: Quite the mystery though. I wonder if this was only my Hopper. It's happened a couple more times since I got it back. I asked them and they are going to send me a new body so I can test it without cost. Depending on the results, I'll be sending them back 1 or 2 Hoppers. I just hope it gets here this week... I'm leaving my residence on Saturday!
