That is still just a band aid to fix a HORRIBLY engineered design. I would be fired in 2 second if I delivered a something that turned its self on by shorting out against something.

I think a horrible band aid solution would be some time of charging port cover. It's really not a big deal that a LED turn on, is it? The GH is being tricked into thinking it is charging , not turning on.

My Hopper seems to be in a good mood today. The first time I tried it today, I got the flashing death ring, but since then it's worked for two magnificent cycles (on-hit-off being one cycle). I haven't tried more yet, but I'll see soon if it continues to work.

EDIT: Trying again, I had to click it on-off a few times because it was death ringing, but I got it to work another time. It's weird to me. I think there's two possibilities - the issue causing it to fail is not constant, or the code that initiates the failure state (due to the issue) can be bypassed inadvertently.

someone mentioned in this thread ealier that he have to click it on faster (but can not find the post)

I'm finding that it's not so much about speed. If I click it on-off a bunch of times (each of those times receiving the ring of death), then, at one point, it'll just stay solid blue and I'll have noticed that it's heated up already, and then it'll work for 2-3 clicks before flashing the ring of death again...

Hmm...seems like you have a new form of failure. I've read of others units stopping and starting, but not as constantly as yours...hopefully it's a one-off defect..

I doubt it's from me pressing it poorly, as it happens regardless of how I press it. What do you mean by pressing it poorly specifically? Perhaps yours has the same problem as mine, but just to a much, much lesser degree?

Like going to slow, accidentally angling it, halfway clicking and then fully clicking really quickly. It happens on all 3 hoppers I have. They all actually suffered red/blue except the bronze which just stopped ticking. I like these devices but the inconsistencies and poor battery normally have me reaching for my Firewood.

Sorry @pakalolo , didn't realise there was a 'to do' going on.

Serious question though. In this batch, that we know about, I think I see two failures on reddit and maybe one here? Is that it so far or am i missing any? Just wondering if the same problems are coming up or if they have managed to iron out back end problems etc.

Just got this email from GHL:

Hi Everyone,

October proved to be a productive month for the Grasshopper Team. After producing over 1500 units, we’ve now converged on a reliable, repeatable assembly process. Using feedback from backers, we were able to pinpoint necessary design tweaks to increase reliability. Small initial batches allowed us to apply these tweaks as soon as they were finalized.

We recently received our largest batch of new parts to date. The shipment contained over 180,000 individual Grasshopper components. After inspection, everything looked great and we’ve entered the new parts into our production process.

Assembly over the last few months has gone much more slowly than anticipated due to parts revisions, the difficulty of the process, and delays with machinery and suppliers. Our current capacity stands at about 1300 Grasshoppers per month, but parts revisions and new machinery will be drastically increasing throughput.

The process of producing Grasshoppers is complicated and it has been very difficult for us to accurately estimate shipping dates. We were overly optimistic in the past, and though our unconventional approach to engineering and business has cost more in time, it’s yielded a fantastic product. Having corrected the issues and applied our new processes to production, we are finally starting large scale delivery.

We’ll have shipping estimates updated on the website shortly. You are all incredibly close to receiving your Grasshoppers and we look forward to completing each of your orders.

Thanks,

The Grasshopper Team

That one is the "pre-order" November update. I got it 3 times for some reason. It seems that the pre-order update tries to summarize a couple different updates and they don't come out every 2 weeks like the igg updates.

Got mine yesterday and ran it pretty good today.
It hits hard, but hot even at setting 2. I find the silicone mouthpiece a must.
The battery life is pretty disappointing, but swap-able so tolerable. I'm getting 2 chambers max at temp 2.
Definitely going to need an external charger and several more batteries.
I got the ring of death when using an extra attachment (arizer glass piece attached with silicon tubing), and the bypass didn't seem to keep up with me; it is a true by-bass? The top also runs surprisingly hot also.
Maybe it was the change in devices but today it got me more ripped than the mighty with less material.
I get the feeling this one will go back on warranty pretty quick, but hope they can dial in the problems because it could be a game changer, there's a lot to like.

Man the reports on battery life, sometimes the battery life sounds pretty solid and other times it sounds disappointing. Oh well.

The diff between the Nov 1 and this update is that this sentence from the Nov 1 update:
"If everything moves smoothly we should get the large majority of the units out this month."
Has been replaced with:
"The process of producing Grasshoppers is complicated and it has been very difficult for us to accurately estimate shipping dates. We were overly optimistic in the past, and though our unconventional approach to engineering and business has cost more in time, it’s yielded a fantastic product. @skrap it is not a true bypass, you need at least some charge in the battery.
