It's an obsession but it's pleasin'
At first I was happy with the battery boxes I bought last week. They're light, waterproof, and hold 2 batteries or two PV GonGs. But then I did a longer hike and found that the batteries made a lot of noise sliding back and forth in the boxes. I fooled around with ways to eliminate battery movement in the box which isn't that difficult. But still it wasn't the easy and elegant solution I'd hoped for.

I use Storacell battery caddies for my AA and AAA rechargeables so I started wondering if they made battery caddies for 18650 batteries. It turns out that they do make a Storacell 18650 battery caddy.

It just came yesterday and it works just as I'd hoped. It stores my 18650 batteries and also locks a PV Gong in place perfectly when you put a silicone cap on both ends! Now I can have 2 spare batteries and 2 PV GonGs in one easy package.

Edit: Just tried putting the plastic tipped AA stem in the caddy and it also fits perfectly with silicone cap on both ends.

That would be this one:

Sorry, I didn't realize there was a question on how to load it, I guess I missed it? The answer (at least mine) is 'no problem'. While I could, I guess load it as an assembly, I simply pull the bubbler and rubber tube off the unit and lay it down somewhere (I doesn't spill). The reload the stem normally and go again. No drama. IMO a single piece would be harder to deal with. You can't, for instance, blow the loose stuff out of the stem between loading like I like to do.

Outside I put the bubbler in one shirt pocket and the Air in the other with the loaded and capped stem. Very easy to assemble and disassemble. When I'm done, the bubbler comes off and goes back in the pocket (with water, no spills....) and I have the normal Air to deal with (which so far I haven't screwed up....).

Given that I've already got this (under $20)) and I'm happy with it I doubt I'm a potential customer of a one piece one. An accident costs me ten or twenty bucks, depending on which way it comes down.

I have yet to break one (although I've tried....), but I have a spare anyway. I've given away 3 to fellow owners as well (one on a Solo, it works there too) and have another to deliver next time I drive over for a visit (good excuse).

Nothing fancy IMO, in fact it's off center inside, but it 'works a treat' as the Brits would say.

Oh sorry I should have been more clear (volcano bag lol), I meant there were some questions about how a 1 piece might work, how to load it and also having to make sure the bowl is dry since it would be 1 piece. I am almost definitely buying the 1 piece and will let you know how it goes.

Anyone else have problems using their Air while charging? My solo worked just fine plugged in but my Air will beep, change colors while I'm adjusting the temp, but it never actually heats up and goes straight back to the charge only light flashing.

There's no warning either. It'll go straight from hitting fine to dead with a red light and not being able to use while charging definitely has its drawbacks.

Not to worry, this is normal.

It's been discussed several times, but remains a misconception. Yes, you can use it while charging, but not with a completely discharged battery. You need to let it charge some first.

The charger is pathetic power wise. About 1/4 the total power needed to run Air (this is why it takes so much longer to recharge the battery fully than it does to discharge with sessions. Think about it. This is also the reason you can't run it without a battery.

IIRC the numbers you need to store (charge only) for about 8 minutes to vape for a full session. And then, at that point, you'll be completely discharged again and will have to recharge again before continuing.

:myday:
Dome screen for the win! They keep oil off the perforated glass filter thereby extending sessions between GonG cleanings. Slightly better air flow too. I find a concave dimple in the center of the dome, as shown, will increase herb capacity.

Exactly how i do mine:tup:
I put the dimple in while in stem and it gives a nice secure fit, and your right used like this all my stems/GonG stay nice and clean, well except from all that lovely honeyness:drool: Thats a word right?

No little bits for me either:shrug:

And my screens stay OCD smooth:lol:(My profile pic ain't as good quality as @Pappy s ) I made a mould from some marine putty i had then use the blunt end of that sharp poker that came with the air to make the curve then get my dremel out to finish the edge nice and smooth, once in stem again use the poker tool to smoothly put my dimple in.

Simple:rofl:

Edit: once i finish a stem most comes out with a little tap then a quick blow and its clean, no bits.

I made a shallow dome screen for my vortex stem (which is the shit, btw!) and it bothers me that I get little bits of abv around the edges...my ocd hates it! So I find myself wanting to remove the screen for cleaning a lot. I just figured that dimple would make more places for me to wig out.

There will be a few things that come in to play here, first is the screen size you start with, as that will give different angles to your dome therefore giving a larger or smaller area between the screen dome and stem, making it easier or harder for bits to get stuck.

Second is how quick you empty the stem after use, always easier to empty while hot/warm, the longer you wait the harder it will get.

Third is when i blow after tapping out, i blow across the stem (while turning slowly) like you would to a bottle to make a noise (if that makes sense?) if you blow into the stem it could wedge any little bits in.

Fourth is how thick is the screen, thicker screens are going to be harder to shape, my thin ones stay nice and smooth if i take my time.

Maybe I'm overthinking things here :hmm: It wouldn't be the first time...damn it takes me ages to get anything done:doh::rofl:

@Deano -- I don't now much about batteries, but from reading Centizen's reports, you don't want to fuck with anything but the battery made for the Air. He has a line on them. If I wasn't absolutely sure (and I'm not) that the ebay one was the same, I wouldn't get it. You're talking about a $2 difference.

Thanks @UnshavenFish . with my Solo I cut a screen to fit perfectly flat and liked it. I think I'll do that with my vortex stem eventually. I was too damn lazy the first time around.

$11 but somewhere around $14 to ship to US.

Anyone tried these...http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=321708039017&alt=web

I have not tried those, but it states they are not OEM and they are a hybrid so probably something like a Panasonic NCR18650B it probably has higher mah but IMO as i have mentioned here before that more mah does not mean more runtime as things like heat up time can be altered, so will still end up with around the same usage in the end.

It also states !!!important!!! check your warranty about non OEM parts, there is a reason for this, read your warranty:p

Now will they work? Yes more than likely...will Arizer know if you have used them? Probably not unless you tell them (although i could be wrong)

There is a lot of talk here about AA batteries and some good advice from some really knowledgable members (i like to think i have some knowledge (just enough to be dangerous) in this area but others here make me look like a 5 year old trying to explain how to put the square block through the round hole:lmao:)

At the end of the day think of your Air like your bum:hmm: Its yours and whatever you want to put in it is up to you

Happy vaping:tup:

The way I see it, I'm already paying $160 for a vaporizer and $25 for multiple stems. It's well worth a couple extra $$ per battery to be certain my investment will last as long as possible and will remain under warranty.

I wanted to order from Centizen but $14 for shipping to the US was too steep for me. I guess if you order enough batteries at a time , the low price makes up for shipping cost.

Anyway, I found original AA batteries at VaporNation for $18.99. After the 20% HIGHTIMES coupon discount and free shipping, it's only $15.19 per battery.

@lazylightning I may be vaped and confused, but please, explain why $15.19 is less than Centizen's lower PRIZE of $14 shipped.

Help! My clutch is slipping! Guess another pint of Nut Brown Ale, aye?

PS Unless you mean $14 for shipping alone.... my bad -dd.

$14 shipped? Am I missing something? As I understand it, Centizen's price is $11 per battery but then there is a $14 shipping charge to the US.

EDIT:

Actually, they're $11 each I think. Plus $14 for shipping ("but $14 for shipping to the US"). The first costs you $25. Two are $36, $18 each. At three you get ahead, $47 total for $15.66 each.

I guess OF was posting at the same time. Yeah, if you bought 4 they would be cheaper than the $15.19 price I paid.

My understanding as well. Less to Canada (about fair, they usually get clobbered on stuff we 'down South' get shipped free/cheap). Great if you need to buy several (say a group buy?) or are already ordering one of his well respected extended life replacement packs for Solo....

All in all, I vastly prefer to support hombres like Centizen or Randy (PIU). Or PV. They take care of us when the needed.
