I think far as the stems are concerned, I've bought several of the specialty stems from PV and have noticed they don't all fit the same way. They are hand blown and some of mine are more loose than others. I've noticed that also with the stock stems too, those don't come from PV. What I'm getting at is that the glass isn't precise.

Also the biggest clouds doesn't mean more medicated or that you are getting more medicine.
That is a fairy tale. They are just nice to look at.;)

My experience seems to indicate otherwise. The seals are not as snug as before (way too snug when new) but they have not loosened over time like the solo. IMO including the original stem (and the longer modified stem) wasnt the best idea on arizers part.

I'm sorry if I gave you the impression that Solo and Air loosen up at the same rate, I too don't think that's the case. Having the 3 ribs (rather than Solo's one) keeps the stem more vertical. This keeps it from 'wallowing' out the hole (like you would with the side of a twist drill bit to widen a little the hole you just drilled) as fast (and perhaps as much) as Solo. But, as you point out, it does get looser with time. The same as Solo does.

I think Air stems are a little harder to insert because the Solo stems have more taper on the OD (Air is more square with a tapered ID near the partition.

While I agree the long stem was 'not right' on Air I think it was a stopgap put in when they realized they 'had to include' an all glass stem. It came in addition to the two plastic topped ones, right? As soon as they had the new, shorter, all glass stem ready (tooling delays I bet), they switched over. IIRC that happened quickly, by Christmas time.

Another factor is, I think, Solo stems tend to be more out of round which introduces other factors?

If you think about it some, since temperature changes (and therefore size changes) are a part of this, compliance (ability to deal with differing sizes) is a must. The hole is going to be smaller cold than hot 'no matter how you slice it'. The 'o-ring mod' for Solo attempts to address some of this with higher compliance than the fiberglass filled seals used (I assume they're fiber filled, such would be typical and they appear that way 'under glass').

So Air and Solo share the effect, not at the same rate and perhaps not to the same extent. Both get looser with use. In a way it's a pity the design doesn't allow for end user replacement of the 'seal nut', I'm sure they could sell a lot of them to guys who'd swap them out at the first sign of getting loose?

Then again, $160 seems a cheap enough price to me to consider replacement if a loose stem annoys you. After all, how many dollars of herb does it take to wear one out? If good old Randy would just get to it we could cut that $160 replacement price in half with open stock returns........ When you consider the extra battery and stems you don't really need but are sure to like having around it gets even cheaper to replace the current one and relegate it to standby/loan duty?

Hey buddy, glad you're back, I posted about a GonG you might like. I remember you didn't favor the "High efficiency" of Planet Vape GonGs. Well the PIU GonG made by Namaste might be what you been looking for. Bowl is the same as a standard stem, with no bowl cuts or channels cut on the side. People agree it will work to hit dry with its length between an Arizer Air stem and A straight Solo stem. Dual purpose? Still seems right to call it "high efficiency."

Hey thanks man, hopefully I don't let you down because it's going to be so short lived. Awesome portable vape, but I just like the Crafty better. Good news is that there will soon be 2 pristine Air's in the classifieds for someone to reap a good deal!

As to the 'I hid it too good when stoned thing' I don't know the first thing about that, never had it happen. But I understand if you get just as stoned again, stand in the same place and pretend to hide a pretend vape you'll go right to it........

FWIW: found it (thanks to my drug sniffing kitty), and yep, all ( my ) stems, Solo/Air stems @ 0.57"~ fit snugly in my Air. :o

If, and when, the fit becomes loose the plan is to use a thin O-ring, or a short hi-heat silicon sleeve on the stem near the top of the Air to stabilize the wobble.

IMO including the original stem (and the longer modified stem) wasnt the best idea on arizers part. I dont care what they consider a defect or anything like that, I bought my arizer air to be portable and a snug stem helps alot. I keep it loaded when out and about like an ecig. Im sure im not the only one who does this?

I agree he shouldnt say not to listen, simply state his experience of stretched seal so the guy can decide whether to risk stretching them or not.

EDIT: Now reading some of the posts people are saying they measure the same diameter on both types of stems. I no longer have any solo stems to compare but when I did they were noticeably harder to insert. Seems there is some variability but I dont think im the first to notice more snug fitting solo stems (maybe trend but not the rule). The shortened arizer air stem (without mouthpiece) that came with it is noticeably harder to insert (like my old solo stems).

EDIT#2: I took a week long break to study for one of my exams. I had some pretty bad withdrawal effects so I ended up extending my t-break to 3 weeks. I have slowly reintroduced vaping but I am moderating usage (still dont think my usage was much compared to some other users) and I am also taking breaks every so offten.

Long story short my arizer air seems way more powerful now! I used to reach for enano or volcano when home but the effect of the air is great. And its so convenient. I still like the plugins but I dont use them unless I want a long session. Air is powerful, it wasnt the device it was me.

You and OF are correct , i apologize for saying not to listen. That was wrong. I just did not want any members having the problem of stretching out there seals in the Air. I have tested many stems so far and it is always the solo style that gives me the trouble. Eds tnt wood stems are now being made specifically for the air , planet vape is also making stems specifically making them smaller in diameter for the air from what i was told by them. I am going to have to agree though and say all stems are created different. When i first purchased my air , my shorty stem included fit perfectly, I decided to purchase more direct from arizer when they became available and the ones i got were bigger in diameter at the bottom causing my seals to stretch. I guess it is inevitable that your seals will stretch , it will just take a lot longer for this to happen if using a proper sized stem.

This looks like just the thing to sneak into concerts and theaters. I know I don 't really need one of these, but I sure want one. Massdrop has them at 150.......

How to satisfy V.A.S., at least temporarily? Looks like there's a new vaporizer in my future.

Still no known cure yet but who knows maybe the next vape will do it:rofl: forward in the name of science i say:science:

I would love to see some kind of stem with a liquid chamber, not functional in terms of the liquid but just as added stealth even more e-cig looking.

I'm realizing I need some good way of stem storing, how do you all keep them safe?

I usually just cap both ends with vinyl caps. The tube is pretty strong and if the ends are protected from impacts (like dropping.....) this way they just bounce.

For even more protection, you can put a pair of them in the dual 18650 storage cases like these:
http://www.amazon.com/Green-Yellow-...TF8&qid=1428517035&sr=8-4&keywords=18650+case

This version, while a bit more money and harder to open and close, is smell proof (if that's important to you):

Bad attitude. Don't think 'need', 'deserve' is the key here........ Let's vote on it, I think you deserve one.......you've been good, right?

Another option is PIU who will sell you one for $169 shipped, with a gift and outstanding customer support. And Randy will get it to you amazingly fast, probably this week. Not that we expect any issues, but there are enough horror stories about MD problems to make me shy away. I'll go with unquestioned warranty support every time. The only time I ever needed it (my first Solo) Randy had the replacement in the mail to me the day I discovered it didn't work for me out of the box. I used the package to return the dud with the label he provided. I can't think of better service, can you?

dissenting opinions/experiences usually get down voted. You're just trying to be helpful as are all of us. Seems like the conclusion is... Try any stem, if they feel too wide, don't use.

With the exception of Eds wood stem I use everything interchangeably between my solo and air.

Great deal, this makes me want to buy another AA as a backup. And you get the H20 stem that you can use as another mouthpiece (frosted glass provides a cool MP). And a nice solid built grinder (not your regular cheap free grinder that you usually get with non-PIU purchases). But I'm also thinking of waiting until a
revised version comes out like an AA 2.0.

Much thanks. :D The waterproof one looks great for the smaller Air stems since the two that broke were riding in the 5th pocket of my jeans. One bump and they were goners. :( Lately I've been using the Solo stems and the Vortex with the Air, at least indoors. You wouldn't happen to know if they make large cases for the stems?

Yer welcome.

Straight Solo stems fit in the 'travel tubes' PV sells ("Baby Soda Bottles" on the web also works, they're the blanks soft drink bottles are blown from). Vortex is about half an inch too long, not sure what to recommend there.

That would be sweet. I wouldn't mind seeing a stock stem with a small liquid chamber in the clear glass air path maybe with some water and food coloring for extra stealth and even maybe being able to pop it in the freezer to get the liquid cold and cool our vapor.

So its been on my mind...and my mind can be a dangerous thing:freak: Im no glass blower, don't have any professional skills but i do consider myself king of the bodge:brow:, if there's a proper way to do something i will find the other way lol.

So on that note i cant be bothered with the whole deal of posting pics, but i will do it the bodge way, i will change my profile pic to show what I've come up with so far, it doesn't hold liquid yet bit I'm sure you get the idea, just need to shrink the o-rings (I'm thinking cold) a little (0.1mm) and then I'm cooking with gas mwha ha ha:science:

I'll definitely be on the lookout for anyone posting reviews/videos/experiences with PIU's new Air Gong. I've been waiting for them to offer an alternative stem and I think this may be the one!

Stealth is not an issue for me so I'm hoping that this stem will give me better airflow and fuller, more robust hits (not necessarily looking for "bigger clouds"). Not looking to purchase a water piece just yet, so this would mostly just be used dry.

The Professor
Last week I received the PVHE-Bent Stem (shorty, turbo), and an 18mm Gong (turbo) and I wanted to post my thoughts...

The bent stem is awesome, I don't even consider using any of the straight stems I have anymore. Shorty is great as I find it is just enough for one session. I like the turbo as I can still rotate the stem to cut air flow a bit (or just regulate my inhale), I like that I can control the airflow from too much all the way to almost nothing. Mine fits perfectly, goes in cold with just a little force, but stays in if held upside-down and shaken.

The 18 gong is nice, also turbo so airflow is open. It is quite loose in the Air, I need to take care to hold it in place when I place it on my bubbler. It would fall out if I didn't hold it, and I need to press gently on the Air to keep the airflow from being too open while it is on the bubbler.

So I ordered another 18mm gong (non-turbo this time) since I think I may like that better. Also a 14mm so I can try it on my PWT.

I am feeling gassy!

No longer dogless
Well, I have both good and bad news re my experience with the Air.

Love the one I've had for a while, and last week (during a Passover Seder, no less) I got my mom, who like me is a chronic pain patient, to vape with my Air. My mom had not used canna in any form since 1961. She loved the pain relief, lack of lung irritation, and ease of use so much she asked me to order her an Air and get her a sack. That's the good news.

So I ordered her a new Air. It came, and here comes the bad. Unlike my Air, but like one of the Solos I had, when my mom's came and I fired it up, it was off-gassing like a mother fucker. When I tool a sample pull from it, just like with my bad Solo, it gave me a headache and made me dizzy. I have been cranking it through full-temp burn-off cycles all day and it seems to be improving.

But there is no way I am giving this to my mom. She is getting my personal, never off-gassing, Air. She is too old and sick to risk even a slight negative reaction to a vaporizer. In addition to chronic pain, she has artificial joints, diabetes, severe edema, liver problems, and asthma, just to name a few of her issues.

I have not read all the pages of this thread, but skimming it and searching it, I found no references to an off-gassing problem like this with the Air. Anybody else have it, and if so, did burn-offs fix it? Or do I need to get another Air for myself and hope it doesn't do this again?

I think most of us do a 'full hot' burn off session or two, on principle of not observed outgassing.

I think your skimming/search is correct, nobody has had serious problems they've reported (?), but then again such things are pretty subjective. You might seriously object to something I might not notice/care about?

FWIW I recall very few in the Solo thread in the last few years, some but not many at all really?

I'd wipe out the cup and seals from above with ISO and do a couple of burn offs and see how it comes out. Where did you get it, exchanges can be very easy sometimes, next to impossible others.

You're right. I cancelled my Massdrop. I, too, have a cool PIU experience with my 1st Solo: it went dead after 3 or 4 months. I emailed Randy and he sent me a pre-paid label. The only thing he didn't do is send someone over to box it up for me. Such a little thing.

What was I thinking?
