Discontinued Hopper io

It's now been ONE WHOLE YEAR since I ordered a Colour Ti io and PFE and still not received the product I paid for.

Now some of you have been waiting much longer for your smell proof case (which never materialised), your oils front end (which never materialised), your battery charger (which never materialised) and your OG Grasshopper warranty claims... so 1 year of waiting probably doesn't seem too bad when dealing with Hopper Labs, but to me this is completely ridiculous!

I've been lurking this thread and the original Grasshopper thread for many years now, so I was aware of their *ahem* flexible shipping dates, but I bit the bullet and ordered a Dark Grey io with PFE on 22/03/2020 and was given an initial shipping estimate of July, which was then pushed to November, then February, and now to March. I've contacted their Customer Support and have been told, like many others awaiting their Colour Ti units, "...coming next month... just waiting on a couple of parts... just waiting for the anodizing to be done...".

We are in a Pandemic, shit is currently fucked!.. I understand there are supply issues and problems regarding staffing; me getting my cool little toy is not really a priority. That being said, if Hopper Labs cannot fulfil my order of a Colour unit, as seems to be the case, then give me a full refund, hell the least they could have done is offer to change my order to a regular Ti unit (which currently seem to be shipping in a timely manner).

I will be contacting them today to put forward my annoyance with them and request my order be changed to a regular Titanium io, since I don't see them being able to fulfil orders of an anodized io any time soon. I will give them till the end of the week to confirm shipping, and if I do not receive confirmation that the order has shipped I will be requesting a full refund.
you might want to give it a couple weeks though, as knowing HL, it is more than likely, if they ship it in 1 week, that they don't bother to send you a shipping notice

My plain Ti has been working flawlessly now since last summer by the way :)

The shipping label they created for my color ti has been sitting waiting for usps to pick it up since the 8th. A member here contacted them late February IIRC asking about the colored units and they were told hopper labs was getting the shipment of color parts that week. I emailed them last week and they said they’d look into it, so I guess I’ll ask again later in the week.

It's crazy that a vape that is so functional and good, does not have an all-star team
sitting at home base, to rectify all issues fast.
If we continue with sports analogies they never have and still don’t have enough people to field a team. CS has never been their strong suit and QC was certainly lacking early on, gotten better yet still far from perfect. I will say my IO continues to run flawlessly 7+ months now and a welcome upgrade over my OG Hopper (both are Ti). Sorry for those who attempted to get color IOs (and the other items that never came to fruition); hopefully the color units will be ready soon at least. The other stuff, well, let’s see if HL can really get those launched after many attempts. Again, human capital could be a factor as well as financial strength. :peace:

Got a response today to my inquiry about the Blue (yikes) IO I ordered.
I received the reply, “Thanks for contacting us. The unit should ship by next week.” Fingers crossed! I’m optimistic, yet also a bit nervous, considering I ordered a color Ti IO. If it doesn’t ship by Friday the 2nd, I’m going to go ahead and ask for a regular Ti instead. Failing that, maybe a SS and a couple more batteries, though I already bought extra.

consider just grabbing an SS io as an emergency backup or travel buddy once you inevitably fall in love with the blue unit. The anodised Ti is a nice finish, has a nice texture and look to it. Definitely worth waiting for - now. It was a really damn long wait, and kind of insane yet not shocking from these guys

If it happens, you'll be the first to get one, so that's special. It's remarkable that the "next week" answer can carry this much weight, after a year of "really soon".
How many hopper bowls have been missed in the meantime. Tragic!

My suggestion, if still waiting when 4/20 sale comes up, is to use your 'credit' to get a ss or ti on sale and with remainder, maybe a couple of batteries - or for sure a pfe or two, etc, etc. I have rarely paid full retail for a hopper, and most of my batts/accessories are picked up on the infrequent sale.

Hi, I just signed up for this post after lurking here for years. Such a great community I have to say!

I ordered my hopper Feb 16th, waited for a couple of days and nothing happened. Wrote my first email, got a quick reply that my hopper titanium will be shipped soon.

Send another email 1 weeks later to ask again, got the same message this time with a USPS tracking number. However the information on the usps website just said that a label was created, nothing more.

After writing the 3rd email I had enough and contacted PayPal to get my money back. I'm so happy that I did not pay with CC. Paypal contacted hopper labs and 5 days later the package is in SF now and will be flown out to Europe soon.

So it took almost 1 month until they did send out my package :(

The experience for now sucks already. However I still believe this is one of the best if not the best vape in the world. This is why I still ordered although I have read every review and all the posts here and on reddit.

Now a couple of questions for the OGs:

1. Where do I find the best cleaning tutorial for the hopper io?
2. Do I need to buy a fancy battery charger or can I use the adapter from hopper labs?
3. Which options do I have regarding the mouth piece that is rather minimalistic. (I saw some people with water bubblers, S&B plenty mouthpiece etc. but they are too complex for me. I'd rather use my DynaVap M or something smaller to cool down the vape...)

Thx for answers and help. Looking forward to be a part of this community :)

Hi, welcome @AK-47

congratulations to your choice. for me it is the worlds best vaporizer too

that is annoying with the long time to ship out after ordering. sometimes HL needs a bit pressure ;)

for your questions:
1. cleaning - do it in iso - to titanium i cant say more. if have only SS and i do it in iso for about 12 hours, then i do it shortly in boiling water for some seconds, after it, because it is stainless steel i do it in the dishwasher, that doesnt works with titanium - soI don't have to brush anything or anything on the front end
the hopper himself clean with little iso and a q tip
2. best charger i now for the batteries is the xtar mc 1 or mc 2, it loads only with 0,5 ampere saves the battery life maybe a little
3. i only use it natively with silicone mouthpiece, i cant say something about glass adapters and so on

have fun here and with your hoppe io too ! :)

Welcome to the thread. Hope you enjoy your IO! I am, 7+ months and counting after owning an OG for several years (still works). As for cleaning, I use a brush regularly for the chamber and frontend. Every few weeks I drop the frontend in ISO and let it soak for an hour out two, rinse with hot water and let it dry; use a damp Qtip with ISO to clean everything else. Less frequently I use Blu-Tac to clean the threads. That’s about it maintenance-wise for me - VERY easy.

I have a few Nitecore chargers and mostly charge batteries externally. I’ve heard great things about Xtar too (they’re the main ones but there are several others that would work well too). I have been using the mag charger a bit more recently to top off a charge as well as in my car. The OG mag charger still works and I use it in my car; the IO charger is for home use if necessary. Always good to have an extra charged battery in hand.

there is also the Performance Frontend (PFE) which I have and use on occasion. It has more open draw than the native frontend. I’m a big portable and native user and don’t use the silicone tip much but have several (just in case). I’ve used my IO through water (glass rig) a few times but I’m mostly a native user. I don’t run mine above 3.5 natively. Indeed, when the IO (and OG) work well they are hard to beat in many categories.

Kinda stinky that HL still needs to be prodded for orders. That’s been my experience too. Their customer service has been less than stellar historically though it’s gotten a bit better yet ways to go IMO. Enjoy! :peace:

Thx for the warm welcome @cliffhanger1 and @Vaporific!

I'm happy to hear that the cleaning is not that complicated and that you can just soak the frontend in ISO! The dishwasher idea sounds funny never thought about it :) Also great that a native user like you @Vaporific does not need a lot of equipment to use it. I'm on the minimalistic side and will use the device by itself mostly as well if possible.

A last questions for everyone who has a Simrell Vortex / Dynavap Omni: How is the vapour, taste, experience etc. compared to the hopper io?

A last questions for everyone who has a Simrell Vortex / Dynavap Omni: How is the vapour, taste, experience etc. compared to the hopper io?
I bought an Omni last year and haven’t used it much. I thought I’d enjoy it but I prefer the electronic vapes at this point. I bought it as a non electric backup and it never cracked my usual vape rotation. Maybe with Spring upon us I’ll use it a bit more outside; it definitely wreaks compared to my other vapes. I’m minimalistic too and try to keep things simple when vaping (my preference) and the Hopper can’t get much simpler in operation and maintenance. I have glass - a rig (new one too to replace the old one that my cat broke), a couple of j hooks which I use with silicone tip on occasion, and a pipe for external cooling - but I don’t use them all often. Good to have options though! I go dry most of the time. With me, less is more even at home - or on-the-go. Just grab the IO (with a battery - I almost peed my pants last night when my IO wouldn’t turn on because there was no battery in it and I’d forgotten I removed the last one) and some flower and you’re good to go! :peace: :peace:

EDIT: the Omni takes a little time to learn. I can’t say I’m an expert at it and it tastes too much like combustion to me. I’ve also combusted with the darn thing a few times too. Not that I think the IO (or OG) provides great taste even on low temps, but the first draw or two on the IO/OG are better taste-wise. They don’t smell as bad as the Omni and better than a few conduction vapes I have.

Ok, that’s interesting. I have the Dynavap M and like it as a backup.

Mostly using the FURY EDGE now, after the crafty and iq.

Looking forward to taste, feel and smell the difference.

1. Where do I find the best cleaning tutorial for the hopper io?
My cleaning approach is a little simpler and quicker, I think.

Like others, I just drop it in a baggie with enough iso to completely submerge the mouthpiece. I place that in a cup of very hot water. I let it soak for only 15-30 minutes and then give it a water rinse and let it dry. That’s it!

We also have suggested you have a pair of fine point tweezers just in case the mouthpiece comes loose. You’ll recognize this if the mouthpiece doesn’t want to screw on completely. An easy clockwise twist solves the problem.

You may also want to get the tacky stuff (I think it’s blu-tac...others can correct me). The stuff I have is similar but has a different name and is no longer available. But it is used on the threads to remove any grime and give a better connection. For me, this isn’t done often.

I find the gh needs less frequent deep cleaning if you empty the oven while it’s still warm. I just clean it with the poker I use to load it.

And welcome to FC!

I asked a week or so about my blue io as well. Seems like it was forever ago that I ordered and paid for it.
Their reply was you should see it next week!
Juct checked my io account and saw a tracking number for a change!!
No email to let me know it has shipped...

According to the tracking it should land next week sometime!!!

I’ve had my Hopper IO TI for about 3 months now and have noticed that it does not produce really any vapor unless it’s on the max heat setting and it still doesn’t even get clouds. I was disappointed because I thought the titanium had a better heater in it. Has anyone else had this problem I’m going to end up sending it back soon because the issue has gotten worse

I recently was stupid enough to upgrade my underperforming OG to the SS io. Basically had little choice since they wouldn't take it back for warranty. Due to Covid, yeah right. Previously they were always happy for you to send them back even if they knew they had a huge backlog and wouldnt look at them for months. What they want it all OG units upgraded at our cost so they don't have to keep repairing inherently defective devices.
The io performs about the same as my faulty OG with the flashing blue lights. Needs to be on 5 to possibly clear the bowl and none of the hits are what you would call satisfying.
I thought just maybe I might get lucky after all the bad luck with the OG and all this time to get it right, and even if I paid to upgrade at least I might get a working device, but no. Not with Hopper Labs.
Here we go again....
