Firewood Vaporizer

I've noticed that if I stand the Firewood 9 with the stem pointing up after usage, the hot reclaim runs down the stem into the narrow piece at the bottom, blocking the airflow or sometimes just bubbling.

The solution was to always lay the vape down after usage so the stem is horizontal.
I've had reclaim drip out from leaving it tilted mouthpiece down in a bag, technically extended use between cleanings

I really love the fw7 I picked up a couple of weeks ago ... so much that I'm considering a second one for backup.

is there much difference in the heating and function of the fw9 compared to the fw7? I tried the fw7 because it is supposedly conduction heavy ... I heard the fw9 leans more to the convection side ... is there a noticeable difference?

thanks!

At least my FW9 is generally less aggressive with heating than my 7, and the major noticeable difference has been taste since I can clean the entire oven in my 9 but the 7 tastes more crispy from years of abuse.

Imo the bowl configuration for the 9 is basically the same as the 7, but capsule mode allows for a bit more convection heating due to the wider air holes. Either way it’s going to be a conduction leaning hybrid.

Yep, aside from potential crumbs that could spill out, another great reason to always keep it level is for the reclaim oil that can get in crevices and spread further when warm... Of course it is designed to be used in any orientation, and I do tilt it a little on the side in my hand as I hit, but mostly I keep it upright at all times if loaded :cool:

Yeah they can be used the exact same way, regardless the configuration, I have the capsule version and I still prefer to use a more consistent fine grind packed well tight, even pretty full in 9 more than I do in 7 actually, running low temps for long slow draw, plenty of time inhaling after letting go of the button even after cool down vibration especially later in the session, level 320 and 350 with 380 as a finisher too... Same great conduction experience that I enjoy with my FW7 setups, but now more fully cleanable (although it doesn't have the direct pathway WPA option, so that is why I am glad I still have my sevens that way and never plan to use them the other way again really as FW9 is the dedicated more mobile one for me)

I received my Firewood 9 and Good Vibes Boro did a restock ! This is a great week to start with a Firewood 9. This thing is a beast , it incredible the vapor this little thing can produce! I really love it . It missing a little cooling with the stock steam but i got two steam incoming (GVB and one from High Artisan). This is going to be great for going out .
Anyone know of a good protective case that would work with a longer stem but still portable?

Idk if it will fit the bigger GVB ones but on highartisans website he sells a carrying case that's perfect for small stems

Almost a year with my FW9. I was occasionally experiencing some REALLY nasty smells and tastes and just couldn’t figure it out, until process of elimination yesterday.

The ceramic bits must soak up a fair amount of alcohol during soaking/cleaning. If I boil the bits in clean water afterward, no more nastiness. Just a good rinse wasn’t cutting it.

Also, broke another stem, I’ll put up my gofundme in a bit.

Yeah, not too surprised there! Betting it was just stale reclaim that the alcohol helped work into the porous surface, the alcohol itself should boil off at vaping temperatures.

Did boiling the capsules get rid of the stains that build up over time too? My capsules have a ring of reclaim from the year+ of use, plus some scorch marks from bits that fell out then burned on the coils and I’d love to try and get that gunk off.

Yes I would not recommend fully soaking for very long when cleaning those parts, they are not quite like glass in that way, or using a different simpler method of cleaning like the boil

If you want to remove stains, there is someone else here who posted a method, can't remember which cleaner they used exactly, I'm planning to try dark crystal for some rough stains on other things soon myself, it may have been that one??

Doesn't the 9's high temp burn-off (press button 4 times then hold) do the same thing as boiling in water?

Not exactly the same, boiling water completely covers every surface and every way and then gives the debris something to bond with instead? Also heat level could go higher etc yeah just not the same, there's no reason to try self-cleaning with the FW9, that was only a necessity with FW7 since the chamber was not removable

The stains remain, I’m cool with that.

I tried multiple unregulated burn offs, no better.

Soaking in plain water seems to be as effective as boiling water, but my process of elimination experiment yesterday needed boiling. Just gotta soak that alcohol out.

Flavorville has returned!

Hey all, i just bought a used 8 and a 9 and it'll be here tomorrow. Hopefully if its good and as described, i get to step my vaping game up. Does anyone know of any cool 3d prints i could make(not design, just print) for either of them? Thats one thing that was fun for my dynas and pax was since they're so mainstream, there was alot to print for them after. But obv the FW is more niche so i cant seem to find anything. TIA

You can reach out to Delta 3D Studios to see if maybe they will share with you, although they sell their designs printed so maybe not

sorry if this is covered somewhere, i tried searching but cant find anything. Are there any 8 owners that have any tricks or tips for easier unloading or loading pods. Theyre so tiny and awkward shaped, kind of hard to use in a hurry. Any other advice on anything else about it is helpful too, ive only had it 2 days but really do like it alot. One last thing, i have a faulty battery, does anyone know if Marc still repairs them, if not, anyone know of any threads that deal with diy repair?

For unloading, I use some curved tweezers to extract the container when cool, or flip my device upside down over a soft plastic surface and whack it like a ketchup bottle to dislodge the capsule. After the capsule is out I either use the tips of the tweezers or another debowler tool to dislodge the abv and discard. Usually finish by spinning a s&b brush in the capsule and blowing out the bits.

For loading, my usual scooper (lego shovel) fits in the capsule so I just shovel stuff in that way, but I believe Delta3D makes a loading tray and/or funnel for easier loading. Cheapest option would be to just take a piece of paper, load like prepping a joint, bend and gently tap to dispense the contents into the capsule like I used to do with my MFLB (and still do to load my smaller devices when I can’t be asked to shovel).

Could also order a bowl mode converter from Firewood if manipulating capsules gets too frustrating (mine’s basically always in bowl mode now). Downside is it’s harder to remove capsules for cleaning, but you don’t have to worry as much about the tamping or loading.

thank you so much, the first couple things are what ive been doing for a couple days, just hoping there was something easier but then you mentioned the bowl converter, i wasnt aware i could do that with the 8? Thats intriguing since i have that with the 9 but would definitely do that with the 8 too if possible. thanks again

8 and 9 are functionally the same device, but with different batteries. As far as I’m aware everything other than the battery packs is interchangeable between the 8 and 9, but he may have removed the references to the 8 from the site since it was relatively short lived.

I've been using my 9 in capsule mode since I received it but switched to bowl mode when I needed to clean all the reclaim.

After almost two weeks I have hardly any reclaim using the same bud strains. Very strange...

I also noticed the following differences using bowl mode:
- use slightly less bud and pack the bowl down a bit less (but still slightly below the air holes).
- vape at 320 (my temps are 300/320/340).
- finger tips healing.

In capsule mode I would add bud past the top of the capsule and it would pack down a little less than flush with the top. When I did that with my first few sessions in bowl mode it was difficult to draw much vapor.

I've been sticking with 320 because at 340 the bud touching the sides of the capsule would start to char and the center would still be greenish. I've also been stirring the bowl after a few hits to get even roasting.

The last point is just a little humor... Funny 'cause it's true - I don't use tweezers.

Anyone else need to change things up when switching modes?

Now that I've used the 9 for several months (and previously using the 4 from release until its unfortunate demise awhile ago) I would like to see the following features in the 10 and up (hope Marc @firewood is open to suggestions):
- bring back the button-less heat activation and modes from the 4. The button location isn't great for people with arthritis! Or keep the button but add a mode for button-less heat activation.
- one or two additional heat settings.
- keep the capsule/bowl options from the 9
- keep the battery/on-board charging from the 9.
- no bevel (just flat) on the bottom to make the unit more stable when putting it on a flat surface.
- make the top to the bowl mode larger/beefier. It is too small and feels fragile. Not sure how to incorporate a tamper into a larger piece without it feeling fragile though. Also, It would be cool if you sold just the ceramic part and/or a small cube of walnut to carve our own shapes!

With all that said, and as much as I miss my 4, I absolutely love the 9 - it's my nightly driver.

I feel your pain there! Thankfully I had a set of hemostats that I either used to feed my bitey critters before finding some snake feeding tongs or came with my spouse’s crafting supplies. Used to burn the crap out of my palm whenever I guessed incorrectly that it was cool enough to handle, now I just leave it loaded and deal with cleanup in the morning.

I’ve noticed that you don’t really need to tamp much in bowl mode, so I usually leave it loose to improve airflow, then stir whenever I want to fiddle but am not quite ready for another hit.

While I mildly disagree on the bevel change and the draw sensitivity, that’s basically my wishlist for the 10 as well. I personally love the bevel for fidgeting with since I frequently end up rolling my rectangular vapes in my hand between hits to appreciate their texture (highly recommended if you haven’t tried, the wood feels so silky), and if anything I’d want the top and bottom bevels back like with the 7.

I’d love to see a return of a wpa like the 7 too, my 7 has been seeing a lot more use now that I have a j hook.

I still love my Rogue scoops for this, sizing is a little different now, so I use my Delta 3D scoops more again, and got another nice scoop cheaper through Amazon that seems like it would work well but I haven't tried it yet... Delta 3D Studios also sells The capsule loading tool to do four at once... I also rely on the reverse tweezers, although I can do it with fingers okay for loading (removal I prefer to be more careful, however if I left the capsule in, when it is empty, and it gets sticky sitting, I have used the little wood notch to pop them out and it has been working effectively enough btw)

i found a guy selling an inexpensive bowl conversion so i'll just do that for my 8 and call it a day, i'm fiddling around with a 3d pellet press for a mighty that i'm shrinking down to fit the fw bowl too to hopefully make loading unloading a little easier. I use one for the pax and its game changer, it usually stays in the brick shape and i can just tap it out in one piece when still warm, hopefully have the same results with the FW. Now that that problem is solved...anyone have any feedback on how long it usually take Marc to respond to emails for repairs? Otherwise, anyone ever heard of anyone diy'ing a battery replacement, he builds them so well, i dont see any seams to take it apart and will only do that as a last ditch option if i cant just send it in.
