Crafty/Crafty+ by Storz & Bickel

Hey guys! I'm thinking of buying a nearly new crafty from someone (online), and was wondering how the warranty transfers, and what information I would need to get warranty. Do I have to register it or something? Thanks!

All you should need is the proof of date purchased so just the receipt. You don't register anything unless your device is broke. (then you fill out the RMA thing)

I had this question about a week ago when my Crafty was functioning.

It seems to me that my first Crafty (v2.08) was more adept at keeping up with my powerful draw rate than my recent one (v2.10). It always stayed much closer to the set temperature. Has anyone noticed this?
Not sure. I should be getting my replacement next week sometime, hopefully its the 2.10 and I will let you know if i find a noticeable difference.

**Follows is my S&B repair story**:

Bought my Crafty at the beginning of July 2015, I used it as my main driver and probably clocked about 100 hours on it. It started overheating and shutting itself off almost every session starting about a month ago. Then, last week it stopped heating up. I put in a repair request on Saturday night, got an email telling me to send it in on Monday morning. I noticed they didn't send a shipping label, but I didn't want to fuck around with customer service, and the $6 in shipping it cost me was more than worth getting it in the mail ASAP. Also, they asked for a proof of purchase, but I lost the receipt. I sent in the bank statement that showed I spent the exact cost of a Crafty plus tax at a local smoke shop and prayed that was enough. I didn't hear anything all week, but then I checked my email today (Thursday) and I got a notification that FedEx had a package from S&B for me.

I'm pretty impressed with S&B's turn around time, I mailed the thing out on Monday, and I'm getting it back on Friday. Granted, I live about an hour away from the Oakland repair facility, but still.

I am disappointed that it broke after 7 months of ownership, and if it's true that it is going to keep breaking, I am pretty concerned that the warranty is only 2 years. Can anyone confirm that S&B will allow you to upgrade to the Mighty if your Crafty keeps breaking?

You can still ask for a Mighty upgrade, usually they're agree for an exchange (even more if it's not your 1st repair) but nothing in the warranty process is done for an exchange ... S & B was so nice with me than i can't think they refuse this kind of trade... ;)

Question regarding the warranty. If you send the Crafty in for warranty and they replace it does the 2-year reset? Or no matter how many replacements you get after 2 years from initial purchase warranty is over?

A couple days ago I sent my Crafty in for the first time. Bought it Jan 2015, v2.04 and have over 200 hours on it before I got the red/amber lights and also the housing was breaking off. And this really sucks because I was hoping it would last until I received my GH which should be coming later this month, hopefully. Cheaped out on a FM to hold me until I get one of the others and its making me miss the Crafty big time.

Someone stated that it resets in this thread, however another member confirmed with S&B that it does not reset.

@Hawk , your story will be really interesting to follow! With so many hours, there's a (very slight) chance you won't qualify for warranty. Was battery function still okay? Chances are that the lights will tell the tale and you'll get a replacement.
Then comes the question about warranty, to which there have been a couple of different answers over time, each with some basis/confirmation from S&B. I had an email exchange with S& B America, with a confirmatory email and date certain. Another member had a communication and got contradictory information. And there's apparently a statement in the Crafty owner's manual that would lock the date at two years from date customer takes receipt of the product. You can see some of our discussion back in this thread on Dec 14 - Dec 15th of 2015.
I have to say that in my opinion, a warranty that is considered 'reset' each time a replacement is issued would have to be called a lifetime warranty, so I don't think that has any bearing here, when the issue is a question over a 2-year warranty.
The story told to one member was that the "warranty does not reset"; it lasts two years.

But I have email (I won't reprint) telling me that my warranty lasts until two years from the day they first received my first warranty repair-return. The word 'reset' is not used.
In your case, this would be huge if administered this way. This is your first return, so it would mean your 2 year clock started very recently, when S&B receive your return. I think the best way to confirm this would be for you, after this return is resolved, to ask them directly about the standing and term of your warranty.

I truly am not wanting to start a re-rehash of the whole discussion. I've tried to layout the various reports we have had, and I think/hope we can learn a lot from seeing how things go for @Hawk . Remember, we've yet to see anyone's warranty expire, so a lot of us are curious. Best of luck! Thanks for posting. Stay in touch.

Does it work with the S&B app? Is the S&B app closed? Is no other device connected?
Yes it works perfectly with the SB app.
When I tried I checked everything was ok to avoid the most common connection issues.
I don't vape so much lately but will try again soon your app.

If I was you I would ask a trade in for a Volcano.
Best vape there is, not tied to battery.

Battery was still functioning perfectly. Until the Red/amber lights started I was still easily getting 2 long sessions out of it. It is possible that I could get 3 but I never let the battery go too low before recharging. I usually recharge right after it cools down from a session. In fact I was right in the middle of a session when the lights started flashing.

Joined the crafty club a couple of months ago. Was so Impressed I got one for my brother a couple of days later! My first vape. Been wanting a vape ever since I saw a volcano in Amsterdam several years back.

So far I'm on 14 hours, fw is 2.08, and serial is CY0368xx. Only real complaint is the battery life. Startup is a bit slow, but that's one of the reasons I have a GH on order.

You already spent almost 1000 bucks on 3 portables. Don't forget to buy a Cano as your next vape. It's still the best if you ever vape at home alone or with your brother/friends.
I'm telling this after having bought 22 vapes and only then a Volcano.

Said that I am enjoying my new Crafty as well. 2 hrs in. Best portable there is?

Maybe for you, but check out how active the Volcano thread is? I've been on this forum since its invention, and if anything - the Volcano gets frowned upon compared to most other vapes, and is touted as being old technology and overrated. The herbalizer crushes it IMHO, but I absolutely detest bags of any kind, same goes for tubing.

The Crafty is no exception - there is NO BEST VAPE, portable or desktop. It's maybe the best FOR YOU.

Go ask in the Grasshopper thread!

Thread activity after 25 years being on the market? Let's see how other vapes (thread) will stand.
Thread activity it's not a selling point to me, but I get your point.
I'm not telling Crafty is the best vape on gh thread as you are suggesting, since I post only on the threads of a vape I own or want to buy :p

Re: Volcano thread
I've had my Cano for a while now. I haven't felt the need to go to the thread once, because I have no complaints and I don't see the value in repeating what has probably already been said 1000x before.

Re: best portable
I agree, different vapes for different people.
But as a session vape, I think you'd have to agree it has the best performance though :brow:

The volcano is awesome, but there's absolutely no way it's as stealthy as the crafty for my purposes.

• Doesn't fit in any of my pockets
• Needs 120VAC
• Sounds like a vacuum cleaner making sweet love to a pile of shopping bags
• Those bags are kinda big to conceal when full

I don't use my volcano much anymore, but anytime I think about selling it something won't let me.

PS: I like my crafty a lot.

1st Crafty: red/yellow lights of death at 27 hrs:|......denied warranty (S&B said water damage):(.......I disputed claim and wanted further explanation:hmm:.......horrible customer service ensued .......after more than a month, S&B accepts my point of view, gives in an sends me replacement:rockon:

2nd Crafty: at 79 hrs, On/off button does not function. Rattling can be heard from inside unit:|......filled out RMA......S&B says, "your repair request has been received. You will be notified as soon as your request is reviewed."........still waiting for a response (its the weekend).

Been super careful with this one..........really babied it with minimal kayaking!:brow:

Really loved this thing!

heat-up time was @ 3min. 15sec. (but i could deal with it 'cause its so awsome)

Now back to the :mflb: and i-inhale....

This should be straight forward......Have others with non functioning buttons had any problems with warranty service? Did S&B send a new unit or fix the existing?

Thanx!!

I upgraded to a Mighty, so I can't help you with how they resolve it, but they accepted my button issue as warranty without hesitation.

I haven't heard of a lot of button issues in either thread, but not one I've heard of has been denied warranty.

We're too high to type! (I did think that about that thread! Way too high!)
All these other vapes you seem to have too much energy and spend too much time typing!
And we might see less opinions/hype on higher priced units that were released before this site became so hot?

I just can't believe I still want a Crafty Soooo bad and am still seriously considering one when they're still going Kapuut so much!
It just seems like I'm covered if it failed, and they might triumph over the few faults eventually? Or I could always try to opt out and upgrade to Mighty if I eventually lost faith?
Can't wait for a rehashed/updated version.

FWIW there are still some older units running strong. I bought this unit pretty early on (note the serial #) and have had zero problems with it. Granted, this unit hasn't seen as much use as some, but it is still alive and kicking.

Hey @Stu what's your heatup time from 20c-180c now? Is it still under 3 minutes? The fast decline of heatup speed is the major deal breaker for me for this one, especially after several hours, but also after even just the first bowl....heatup definitely is affected, unlike the beast referred to as The Mighty!

I'll have to get back to you on that @biohacker as my buddy is still "borrowing" that Crafty. When they get back from their ski vacation I'll have him properly test it and will report back.

Got my crafty last week from Randy at PIU. Great guy to work with and super fast shipping, took two days with priority mail shipping from Nevada to the east coast. It's got v2.10 firmware, serial in the 48,000's, and if I plug the screen on the CU with my finger it feels air tight.

It's a great addition to my EQ but after reading thru most of this thread and using my crafty the last few days part of me wants a mighty for around the house...

I noticed it vibrates the first time it gets up to temp but when it heats back up after a hit the light turns green but no vibration. If auto-off kicks in when it heats back up it vibrates, and if I boost it vibrates. Is that the way its suppose to work or should it vibrate every time it reaches temp even during a session?

Sounds good to me. Mine never vibrated twice like that unless I turned on the booster

Yep, sure is normal.

It only vibrates:
*first time it hits temp
*when it hits boost temp
*when it times out (or on/off).

I prefer it this way. Everytime you draw hard you bring the temp down, imagine it was vibrating 19x a session. IMHO it would be annoying.

I always forget ^this^ when considering, I'll think it's just battery hours is the big issue, and I say "I'll get a power bank", "USB is everywhere".
Might not be a big issue for me but faster is always better, and "getting noticeably slower" is a bad thing alright, especially at that price!

I was in a store earlier with some low price 2A USB car chargers and a powerbank so I really tried to force myself to decide which way to go.
I'm lucky I didn't buy them as the powerbank was only 2200mAh, and I see the official one is 6600.
In an ideal world I'd buy a Crafty and a Mighty but if I buy one first I've been told more than once that I should probably just get the Mighty and some larger pants pockets!!
It'll be some kicker if I save and buy both, and then they launch a sexy hybrid of the two.

It's been said before, but, if the crafty had a replaceable battery, it would decimate all!

If they released a replaceable battery model, it would sell like hotcakes and almost make the mighty redundant. I can't help but feel this is part of the reason they didn't.

Looking at the history of S&B, they tend to stick to a design and see it through (with only minor revisions). I think it would be a while before they considered an updated crafty.

My new 2.10 Crafty doesn't connect to the unofficial app.
And speaking of vibration, it switches on very fast, to the point it's impossible to press the orange button just a little to switch Bluetooth on. As short as you can press you'll turn it on.
My old 2.05 unit would hit harder too.
