hmmm i have read in this thread where people are saying they got less vapor after cleaning the colling unit... (but also people meaning it the otherway around - clean cu more vapor)... maybe after cleaning the cu you get less vapor because there is less oils (resin) in you cu which also if using the crafty getting heated and therefore more vapor... do not know if this makes sense...

So are you saying that you get two half-packed sessions out of your Crafty? What if you go to a concert or out on a boat for the day? That is my concern about buying a Crafty is that the battery is basically worthless. I understand you can bring a battery pack with your Crafty but that is a pain in the butt. I need to get a few sessions even if they are half packed out of it. If it can't get me through a concert or boating day its not for me.

It doesn't matter that much whether I half pack or full pack, I get get 2 full sessions. Packing it half way does't use half the battery, it uses about the same. Where I come out ahead is using less material for the same result. Unfortunately, the Crafty doesn't last a whole day, or a whole concert, it just doesn't. You need that battery pack (which can charge it to full, twice) , or a Mighty to last a whole day. I'm going to sell my new Pax 2 and get the Mighty!

* After finally removing the bottom screen I was amazed at how much junk was clogging up the holes; so yes, clean that to keep your full draw*

Ok so I got a brand new unit after the other one crapt out at 63 hours but the new one won't connect with the app like the old one, same phone. Do I have to send this one back to?

I would delete and reload the app. It only works with one crafty at a time, so maybe it's still looking for the old one. Start fresh.

Hey guys, new member here but long time lurker. After months of reading up on the forum here and reading reviews about vaporizers, I decided to buy a crafty. Before buying the crafty, I decided to head over to a local headshop and test the vaporizer to see if I like it and it would work with the way I smoked. I tested a Mighty, which should technically be the same as the Crafty when it comes to vapor production, quality and taste. The taste of the mighty was amazing, the flavor was clean and crisp and it really tasted like the stuff should taste.
Yesterday my crafty arrived, i heated it up to "burn off" the mechanism and get rid off the plastic taste. I loaded up a first bowl and to my surprise I was instantly hit with the popcorn taste. After an hour I loaded a new bowl with a different herb, and I got the same popcorn taste. I experimented with half bowls, full bowls, high compression, liquid pad, new unused cooling unit, lower temperatures, higher temperatures, but no matter what I try the vapor tastes like popcorn. Even sucking air through the cooling unit while it is detached from the crafty gives me popcorn tasting air.
I use quality herb giving that I live in the land of semi-legal supply.

So what could it be? Is it a faulty device? Am I doing something wrong? Why is the flavor of the vape so radically different from the mighty I tested, or the volcano & verdampers I smoked in the years before?

I'd suggest an ISO soak for the CU, scrub with a tooth brush, and use an ISO qtip in the heater bowl area (carefully). Let dry properly and run a cycle or two on max temp. Hopefully that will do trick. If not, i'm completely stumped. This tasted like popcorn even without putting bud through it?

After smoking it the first time, the aroma of popcorn was completely saturated throughout the cooling unit. It's literally brand new, that's why I'm so surprised.

Vapin' with my Mighty
Heya guys!

Ive been doing a bit of research for about a week regarding vaporizers and Crafty/Mighty are still seemingly the top choices for me as my budget is not limited for vapes this time. What I still havent figured out is, are Mighty/Crafty good if I want to vape very small amounts, such as 0.03-0.05g of weed? I want to be really saving up weed because its so pricey here in Finland and is hard to get for me, so Im thinking of only smoking 0.03g-0.05g at a time. Will these vapes be good for that? Atleast they are quality devices from a highly reputable company, thats why Im leaning towards them. Also the reviews are outstanding for all the vapes. Sorry for my lack of knowledge, Ive never even tried a vaporizer or seen one in real life. Only smoked weed about 10 times but Ive got asthma so I want to vape because of it and also save alot of weed. So yeah, what I want to achieve is smoke very little weed with every session being as effective as possible and healthy for my lungs as well, ha.

Thanks in advance, happy vaping fellas!

I'm going to go load .05g @200c and will be back in a few minutes to report!

Welcome to FC!!!

edit
-----

Decided to go to 210c instead since it was only .05g and had great success! Lots of nice hits and perfect medium dark brown ABV. Medium/fine grind, slightly tamped down, and used oil pad on top.

.03g or any amount is fine....it will vape it all and your results will vary based on your material, temperature, and draw habits.

Go for it dude! You won't regret it!

As mentioned earlier, if you soak your CU in iso (91%), it would get rid of that taste. Try it out and let us know how it goes.

Problem is that a brand new cooling unit delivers the popcorn vapor as well, so it's not the cleanliness of the original brand new cooling unit that was the problem...

All this talk about popcorn flavour...I decided to give my Crafty an overhaul at its present 24hours usage. Super easy to clean and maintain....I was surprised how much ABV dust goes through the bottom screen but the oven was really easy to clean with an iso qtip. Swapped the screen for a new one and did a dry run at 210 and everything is like new! I'll definitely keep an eye on the oven for abv debris every week or two from now on. May be time for a wear n' tear kit as well!

I think you should write a letter to S&B about this… Or your distributor…

Just to confirm, you have two Cooling Units?

When I first received my Crafty, I noticed a weird taste and I soaked the CU in iso alcohol for about an hour. I then rinsed it thoroughly with warm water and everything came out great.

Yup, I bought a wear and tear kit as well (better safe than sorry kinda of idea), like that I could clean 1 and use the other ;)

From my experience the main thing that leads to that roasted taste is the temp. What temp are you using on the crafty? and what temp was the mighty at when you tried it? I know you said you used a range of temps, but you never said what temps specifically. It might be possible that your crafty not operating at the temperature it says it's at. I use the default 356F and never get a single hit that tastes roasted(like popcorn).

I also would check the under the fine mesh screen in your main unit and see if any debris is in there.

I tried the mighty at 185 C, and the crafty i used at 170, 175, 180, 185, 195, and 200 (338-392F)
Even with the new cooling unit I didn't get a single hit of clean tasting vapor, at 180C.
