Discontinued The Grasshopper

The GH is much better at heating material to a consistent temp and the vapour it offers is less smoky than my high temp EQ hits. The EQ will fluctuate by about 60C, where as the GH seems extremely accurate. It responds to small changes on the temp dial, you notice the difference in effect, flavour and the colour of AVB.

So you get more vapor with the EQ even though it cannot maintain the temps?

And on the 7th day..... Grasshopper RIP :( :( :(

Started with the blinky lights whilst charging now no lights when charging and won't turn on unit is totally dead.

Have any others experienced this sort of issue is it a battery/charger issue or is it the unit itself?

I guess it is a warranty job in any event.

Great shame totally gutted!

UPDATE - plugged the charger directly into my computer and low and behold 1/2 hour later the unit is functioning again from being completely dead and not charging / no lights / nothing.

I think there may be an issue with using an apple wall charger (usb-wall plug) with the magnetic charger supplied I am researching getting a nitecore and some replacement batteries as I only have the one batt to date.

Scary stuff I really thought it was game over there.

Yes same happens to me
Strange light patterns and also
Not responding to charger
Also using iPad wall adapter
I put the charger back in the box and only use nit core i4
Now it works sweet no problems with my 5 batteries

@barnardbarnard - thanks for getting back to us to let us know that things are now o.k.

And yeah, I'm starting out with 4 batteries & I plan on only charging them via an external charger. My Nitecore dedicated battery charger will do a far better job of managing my power resources than any all-in-one device+charger package, imo.

Inconsistencies with various wall worts and their associated ratings seem a likely cause for issues which are ultimately found to be power related.

I don't mess around when it comes to vaping power, and no matter what I don't know about my Hopper, I know that I can rely on my Nitecore.

3 fully charged & 1 in the hole should see me good.

And yes, it's still on it's way . . . .

PËÅÇÊ.

I run my EQ at 222ºC, and that isn't all that accurate to what the herb is actually being heated to (it exceeds this temp when you hit it, I think).
I run it at that temp so I max out the clouds before it starts tasting scorched, but the top of the herb nearest the heater definitely would be, it just doesn't affect the flavour so much.

FWIW, so far I've noticed more exhaled vapour from hitting the GH native than with a bubbler. My technique is far from optimised, so it will take me a few goes to be able to compare better.

I will give the GH a go at 210ºC (setting 5) and see how it handles, but basically it is a finer vapour than a DDave EQ hit, but still, you definitely get a lot of actives from hitting the GH. It's a fast onset and definitely gets you good off one or two hits (my current tolerance is lower than it's been, but it's still decent).

EDIT; one big difference between the EQ and the GH, there's barely any conduction with the GH. So it wastes less bud, tastes way better, and you can load a bowl, turn it off and return to it and still get epic clouds.

Apple and Samsung (and likely other brands) wall chargers are rapid chargers designed specifically for those devices. I don't recommend using them with other products and using them as if they are generic USB charging hardware. Not all USB is created equal even though the fit is Universal.

Interesting, I used my iPad wall charger to charge my GH last night, seemed to do okay.
But I have heard of a few issues with people with iPhone AC bricks. Do you have a 5W, 10W or 12W Apple USB power brick? It should say on the base

EDIT; Just hit up a temp 5 D020 bowl, fully charged from a cold start. Milked it up good for the whole hit of say, 20-30s (didn't time, but just did a 22s third hit to compare).
Second hit, I had to grab the torch to see if there was vapour, there was a lot. On exhale I turned the torch off during, and I could still see the vapour.
Third hit, I honestly can't remember doing now, apart from the whole 22s thing. There wasn't much visible vapour, and I'm not sure if I looked with the torch.
I just did a 4th hit, probably 20s, and there was barely any vapour, even with exhaling directly over a torch beam.

This is pretty typical with the bud I have atm, and compares in intensity almost one for one with the EQ DDave bong hit's but maybe 5/6th the strength.
With the EQ consecutively I have lost count at 3 hits. I only know because it's such a low number, but basically once you've had three baskets, you forget how many you've had and experience low level body saturation of cannabinoid stimulation.
The GH seems to do this also, but I don't think it's quite as powerful. I think you can get slightly higher with the EQs higher temp hits, but I'd be using twice as much material with the EQ than the GH.
Overall for a portable this thing is bonkers and I am pretty stoked for its existence.
Can not wait to take this thing to the beach, rainforest and mountains.

further edit; I got two chambers completely vaped like this^, and started toking on a tiny piece of bud during which the red rapid lights flashed, but I only just caught it as I was drifing off into hyperspace. Charging now.

@ WoodyWeedPecker thanks for clarifying.

I think there may have been a connection issue although I took the battery out / checked terminals it was completely dead and would not charge but now as i say appears to be back from the dead.

I \think you may have had connection issue between the GH backend and the magnetic charger.

I noticed a few times on my loaner Titanium hopper that it wouldn't charge until I removed the magnetic charger and reconnected it. (One time I also had really sweaty hands and got some sweat on the charger connection before making contact with the GH - ooo the hopper didn't like that! hahaha)

For any in the US who may be confused... Torch = Flashlight

We didn't see a lot of defective hoppers lately from regular fc members and on reddit either. 3 months ago we could see many of them. The redesign of the back end seem to have solved most issues.

The redesign of the back end seems to have solved most BACKEND issues. Which maybe was most of the issues, but just in the last couple of pages of the this thread people are reporting other problems.

at this point i'm actually happy that i waited to pre-order. when my turn to receive a November 9th 2015 order comes most of mass production flaws should be ironed out.

Me too, but my preorder is considerably later than yours. Are you waiting on a non-color gh? Have you reached out to ghl to ask about the holdup?
I have two plain Ti units on order. The last response I got from Caroline was that the Ti hoppers would be shipping in the next few weeks ( two weeks ago ).

@Ratchett thanks for the info I tried disconnecting and connecting and jiggling contacts around but no luck it only seems to charge in the usb from my mac now not from the wall plug.

I am going to invest in an external charger I think that will be safer.

GH is back up and running normal service has resumed!

take X-tar charger. better that Nitecore. cause you can see (V) and (mAh) for each battery. you know when batteries are fading. so you can plan to order new ones.

R/GrasshopperVape is such a weird place. Shared my link for Vaporizer Wizard's contest (after @subway13029 hooked us up with the info here,) and am being down voted to oblivion because I didn't think to mention it was a refferal link (which is apparently 'not cool.')

Here I thought people would be excited to try an win a free hopper from a well-known source.

Edit: Now my ethics have been called into question. I do not think that word means what they think it means.

I've also experience this, and not just with the Grasshopper. Jackery chargers will not charge through applejax. Generally, this would make sense since cereal is a poor conductor of electricity but...

Grasshopper landed from UK! 1st hit 3.5. Pure flavor small cloud. 2nd hit on 4. Big cloud and coughed my ass off! Still taste great! 3rd hit at 4.5. Coughed up a lung! Still taste good. All 3 were ripped really hard and clicked off mid draw. Heat wasn't an issue for me really. I havent been this high from 3 hits in a long while. First impression out of the box... this thing is way smaller in person than on all the videos I've watched. I love it! Keeping my Sept 15 pre order too.

Hi KBecks,
Yes, unfortunately, your voice was also heard from under the bridge. Some people would bitch and moan if they had to bend over to pick up a $50 bill. Alas, . . ,

The output from the wall charger needs to be at least 2.1A to charge the GH I think. So it may depend on the type of Apple wall adaptor you are using, as my iphone 6s wallcharger outputs only 1A and my iPad adaptor 2.1A
