Discontinued The Grasshopper

Just wanted to add my experience. I received a titanium Grasshopper from Vapefiend to the US last Friday. I didn't want to post about it because I honestly felt like it would break after I did. It's great and all, but it honestly makes me appreciate my Mighty more. Anyways, it was going strong until today when the dreaded red & blue flashing "cop" lights came on whenever I turned the unit on or charged it. Time to test the warranty :)

Sorry to hear @OMEiAM that you have to test drive the warranty. I hope it is a smooth process for you.

...

Thus far I should add that the battery life is pretty dismal, but it charges off my USB power-bank and the included charger seems pretty good quality.
If you get red-flashing lights (battery flat), it is game over for a small while. Plugging it in at that point, you still get red-flashing lights mid hit.
I'm thinking 50% of my usage will be tethered.

My power bank is a Rapoo P500 10400mAh, and it used about 15% from rapid red-flashing flat to full with a few drags during.
Before then, I sipped and hit a few pinches of a bud. It vaped it perfectly. I just checked it under a torch, and it's super even golden-brown. It is a much better efficiency of vape than my Arizer EQ desktop unit, and it seems to be much tastier and offers similar clouds. Very impressive basically.

The chamber is a bit tedious to empty (as are all vapes in my experience) and a tool will be required.

I feel like they were pretty contrived with the dimensions HL decided to go with for this product. This is clearly the reason there have been so many hardware faults, and why the battery life is so limited.
But it really is the perfect size. I don't know if it follows golden ratios, but I wouldn't be surprised.

All that talk about hitting one of these in a movie theatre from ages back;
You totally could. But you'd probably either want to know the people either side of you or be in a fairly empty auditorium. It's great for stealth, and would seem like a nicotine vape to anyone that would notice.

The flavour at 2.5 is crazy good. And it produced visible exhale after a couple of drags.
Seriously awesome little device.

Another week another warranty request! 4 bodies, 3 back ends, 2 front ends and still without a working unit. This one lasted about 2 weeks. Worked perfect one moment, dead the next. Clicked on and was met with flashing blue lights. Now no lights will turn on at all. Sigh, guess Ill have to pay to send it back AGAIN. :goon:

Having an extra battery is really nice to have, but I have found that it takes about ~20 minutes to charge the battery to 80% capacity which is quicker than most of my vapes.

I don't generally have a problem emptying the bowl unless I don't fully vape the herb, or when I pack it tighter than normal. Otherwise I can usually just hit the front end against my hand or nuckle and knock out the avb.

Yeah, I have a few spare batteries and a couple of Hoppers on the way from HL.
I think though, given the short battery life, having a high-capacity power-bank is the way to go. Mine should allow at least 6 charges, so about 24 bowls. I've had two small ones 3 hours ago or so, and I'm still pretty blazed, it works really well.

I guess I was tapping too lightly as I only just received it. But still, if anything does get stuck it will need a stoke with something as fingers are useless with the small opening.

Can't wait to test it tonight with a small bubbler and no holding back.
I wasn't going to use it at all before work, but I couldn't resist.

PS Cheers BuzzDanklin (great name btw) for your coverage of the GH. I enjoyed your 4K review, and I gotta say, it holds it in high esteem and it is spot on.

2 front ends? What could go wrong there? Or did they just send one on a body?

Maybe request Matt or Trever themselves to oversee the construction of your next unit seeing as you've been through so many. I mean, the sticker on the back of my box isn't straight so it's obvious these things aren't put together leisurely. With 80 parts in the main unit, there's a lot of margin for error.

@MoltenTiger they sent me a replacement body without the mouthpiece. Old mouthpiece didn't fit. Still can't figure out why they just wouldn't include the mouthpiece considering the risk. I don't think special oversight would change anything btw

I don't pack mine down at all. I pour fluffy coarse grind from glass test tubes into the hopper, til it's about 3/4 full (for when I leave the house) or just a pinch (for a blast at home). With a pack like that you should be able to empty it while hot with just a tap. 2 months and I've yet to "need" a tool to empty it.

So many people are using their warranty more than once and getting back parts that don't fit together (mouth piece). And HL is raising their prices, they must not be making much of a profit. Makes me nervous.

May I ask how you were charging your device ? Was it via the magnetic cable ? Or an external Charger ?

Anyone else who has had the red/blue flashing lights - could you possibly also answer the question above. Thanks in advance.

Hope you get your replacement soon @OMEiAM .

I've mostly been using the included magnetic cable, but I also have the Tenergy TN270 battery charger and have been using that sometimes.

I have had the blue/red flashing lights a few times when first plugging into the magnetic charger - seems to go after a couple of seconds though and normal charging resumes (intermittent red blink).

I don't seem to be having any trouble with my unit - I hope this is not a sign that the end is nigh!

So I'm assuming you had more then one battery to try it out with ?

Agreed, pretty much my ABV just falls right out. In the event you "need" a tool, it actually comes with one, unscrew the backend and use the pen clip to scoop out stubborn ABV.

@slcbdco have you been by the labs recently and seen/heard about the status of the S/S case? just wondering if i should cancel it and get extra batteries instead (although I do have 4 ordered with the GH...)

Ratchet's case is BEAUTIFUL ! unfortunately mine is collecting dust while I wait for my 12/14 address confirmation...
Me too, but my preorder is considerably later than yours. Are you waiting on a non-color gh? Have you reached out to ghl to ask about the holdup?

I only used the included charger. I really doubt it makes a difference one way or another. They sent me a new body (including mouthpiece).

That does seem a bit odd.

I just tried it with some bud my friend grew.
Gosh darn it works well. Would like to hear a comparison between this and a sublimator, because I would assume this must be getting to that level of punch.

I tried it earlier with a bubbler (DHgate 12" torus) and it seemed alright, wasn't as visually stunning as the EQ, but will have to play around with grind/pack/amount/strain and connection. It didn't look as impressive, but it worked pretty well.

I have it on charge atm (has been for nearly an hour, though I've used it once or twice during) waiting to try and milk my D020 :science:

Oh yeah, about needing a tool. I guess I didn't use a fine grind at all, so the pieces were big enough to bridge on either side of the chamber. I guess I could shake it out but I'd prefer to just quickly stoke it, like with the pen clip as you say. I often have one on me from a mechanical pencil, so it's not a hard task.
In my experience, tipping it upside down isn't enough to get everything out easily. Maybe if I grind it finer.

Has anyone used the MFLB finishing grinder with this? I'm not too sure if I should try, the holes in the hopper are tiny but still could fit dust/crumbs

EDIT:
okay that last bowl I just vaped it harder and it just fell out, so I see what's up.
And I can barely see. This thing is powerful :ko:
It also turned from green to caramel (3.5) to cocoa brown (4)
Super consistent colouring, and extremely efficient extraction.
The tech is real in this thing.
I even showed it to a guy and he said "I wish I smoke weed so I could get one of those"
It's worth the wait

Don't grind too fine, as the small particles will pass through the mouthpiece's screen and you'll get a ton of particles clogging up the tip and in your mouth. It's like eating kief - gross.
Yeah that's what I was going for with the pinch's of bud. Best way to conserve flavour too, and it seems to vape it nearly just as efficiently. The whole chamber must be held at a precise temperature fairly accurately I assume. It's amazing.

After some more bowls.. it's hard to say how I like to use it best. I was super keen for this for bubbler hits, but I'm not so sure it was exactly what I wanted there. Either way, I think I prefer hitting it natively, which has surprised me somewhat, it's just so tasty and good.
I have a wooden MFLB stem, and that with the silicone MP is pretty decent, speeds up the pull with less effort. I would recommend getting one to try, you might find this is the best way.

One thing that is annoying which I will point out, is the sound it makes while dragging. Fast draws are a bit screechy - but nothing too bad, just being nitpicky.
I think an adjustable airflow collar which was quiet at rapid pulls would be better.
