Two weeks in, this log is the real deal. It's just great, plain and simple. I leave the CL plugged in all day and hit it throughout the day pretty consistently. Still haven't changed the dial from 6, has worked out of the box for 1-3 hits of full extraction, rarely worth the third. Just high marks all around frankly. I think my only complaint is how messy the injector bowls get, which is easily fixed with running water, and I cannot imagine exclusive to CL injector bowls, it just reinforces the good decision I made buying an ash catch, tbh.

Otherwise, I've combusted twice. I consider this excellent considering its daily use for the past two weeks:

1) Using the wood/glass bowl. It has a smaller chamber, the heat source is closer, and I simply overpacked. I've been much better about removing the CL to allow some cooler air to flow / not building up hits for too long / packing less. Haven't had a repeat, i'm also just better about handling it on this bowl and more cautious. I've also started using this bowl unplugged only, I imagine that would decrease combustion chance.

2) Last night in one of the CL injector bowls. I attribute this to two things primarily; drier material than I have used so far, and this followup combusted hit came after a lengthy heat soak period. There was likely no moisture left in the bowl to cool the air at all, and I drew too hard forgetting it wasn't a fresh bowl. It was also probably overfilled or too tightly packed.

Going to be more mindful of the density of my packs, and also whether they are hit 2 or if that is even viable / necessary. I'm assuming the combustion last night was due to the dry material, so I think just re-hydrate that jar properly should also help mitigate.

I've been running mine low lately (~4.6) with excellent results dry, through water, and direct. I have been using smaller hand-sized rigs with the glass MP, the bowl, and a TAG adapter, and the CL's been great with all of them at that temp, doing full, flavorful roasts. The results are so good I'm kind of surprised I was able to run it so well at a higher temp previously (~5.7), although that was mostly through larger glass. So, you may be able to turn down some and still get great results.

hmm you know this is actually a great point. I really have not given the CL a test on the lower temperature end yet. Think I may do that, and try out that awesome wood grain spot around 5.6 on my dial as my high mark for now and see how it goes.

Does the Thuya burl unit have a strong smell? I love the look of thuya burl but the 18mm WPA I have that is made of it is almost unusable because of how strong the aroma/flavor is from the wood.
I haven’t really noticed and aroma from my Thuya Burl. Using with the glass injector bowl, no flavor. If I’m using the Thuya stem, it does have a bit of a cedar note to it but I wouldn’t say it’s strong. I do enjoy a slight flavor of wood though so ymmv, you definitely get a cool cedar feel briefly, just not overpowering the vapor imo.
If you haven't used a grip mat yet I highly recommend one. I use one with a mason jar lid attached to it at a CL stand

Some of these arrived for me today, thanks for posting. Definitely helps, I have a cat that has decided to be more courageous on the desk at night. Would hate to wake up and find broken glass and this puts me at ease.

Does anyone know the exact dimensions of the o-ring?
I tried to measure, but am unsure if I did it correct: 14mm outside, 12mm inside and 1,5mm thickness (I know - does not add up).
Thanks for a hint.

Dont go for 12mm inner diameter! 11,5mm works Much better!
Only use high temp o-rings!
1,5mm thickness is correct.

Okay so I now own a traditional ball injector vape other than the CL, and … yeah this couch log is a ball injector vape. I believed it before but it sure is something to have side by side hardware to compare. Still in love with it, have zero regrets waiting for as long as I did for a burl. Still my go-to favorite vape a month into owning it.

I kind of got one planning to use it mostly as an injector through water and it excels at that--it's even open enough for a recycler--but I've kinda also begun using it more direct or with a DV tip just for the convenience. It does both so well. I love the hands-free fit on the MPs and glass bowls on a waterpipe and how well they mate and seal otherwise. Not only does it take logs up a notch in power, but the refinements are equally well conceived and realized.

Just curious, which ball vape are you comparing against?

SX, which is a 14mm injector head, as close to a CL direct comparison as I can imagine as a result. Identical extraction and cloud production. The CL might need a few more minutes to heat soak between large bowls.. but that’s the only noticeable difference.

Ok, I’ve been asleep at the wheel. When did the power pucks start matching the wood of the vapes?
Announced here
Everything is fine!
Sorry for not beeing so active. There was a lot of stuff to do.

We are switching the website to a new host and have to wait for them atm.
We will hopefully be back soon.

I hope the site runs well.

there will be a bit of a change in the prices for some wood types, cause we added matching controllers
for the 4 normal models.

There will also be a new butane vape available on the website.
Its the result of a lot of tinkering and accidentally combusting and i think you will like the design.

Greetings
Chris
And available when the new site launched here:
Oh cool, should make some very happy!

Can you set any temp you want on that couchlog temp controller or is it just a on/off at a preset temp?
I can't really tell from the pictures

To improvise, till your replacement arrives, get yourself any 14mm female to 14mm male adapter

You make it sound effortless... :o
This, my friend, is no ordinary 14mm adapter there! It ain't likely to find anything like that on ebay or outside the US of A :haw: I have spent hours!

But it is! 🤷‍♂️
That's just a common, cheapo F14 to M14 activated carbon filter, I got from Amazon and utilized for a mouthpiece/stem there and also tested it out with two other standard F14mm joints.
Also, check against what the Master JedHi advised a bit earlier in this thread:
Post in thread 'CouchLog'
https://fuckcombustion.com/threads/couchlog.51564/post-1625645

Bit more patience and try to keep the 1/2" screen flat & horizontal, while inserting. Best method is to 'thread' the screen in slowly with a male 14mm joint from the top, while keeping an eye on it from the side, to stay horizontally 😉. If the adapter allows, try balancing the screen with a dowel of appropriate size from the other end while inserting.

Standard ground glass 14.5/23mm female socket's inner diameter is 14.5mm at its widest point and ~12mm where it joins the glass tube/adapter. Standard length of the joint is 23mm. Just like with this adapter.
So the 1/2" screen (~12.7mm diameter) blocks near the bottom of the joint. There may be shorter versions of the ground glass 14.5/23 joint, but haven't encountered one yet, that was so short, that the 1/2" screen fell through.
There are longer version of the joint though, like the common little 18/14mm inline adapter/reducer, that has a 26mm length. In that case, the screen stops somewhere within the lower 1/3 of the adapter and not at the bottom of the joint, because the joint itself is longer.

ETA: Also... you can try to give the 1/2" screen a few hits with a hammer, to make it more stiff and widen its diameter another fraction of a mm before inserting it.

HOT DAMN DUDE YOU'RE ON FIRE! :D Those look excellent and may alleviate the injector bowl blues until the proper solution lands !

Edit: this looks preferable also because it is not so deep.... getting a screen to stay in the middle of pieces like those is not easy in my experience and becomes a PITA after a while.

You might need to use a small round diamond file (and a drop of water) on that through hole there (where the arrows are pointing) to widen it a bit and so improve airflow.
Depending on manufacturer and batch, the draw might be quite restricted otherwise, if the opening is too narrow.
But that's solved easily with a couple of minutes of diligent filing.
