GOOD NEWS!! I let my man try the hand carved VG and he likes it!!! he's using it right now!! He's already run 2 loads through it tonight!

I've been through the gamete of various vapes, and he's been a tough sell on using any of them on his own. This is a huge win for me, well for both of us. I hope he sticks with it... this could be a real break through because he's been using an e cig for a month now, combustion might soon be a thing of the past for both of us. I think I'll let him have the teak one... I really like the warmer taste of that walnut.

Bravo Jam! Once again, sticking to a good plan and keeping at it pays off it seems?

Fingers crossed for you and your man, Lady. Thanks for the good news.

that's great jam...let him have whichever one he wants!

I took my mouthpiece out ages ago and never put it back in. it restricts the airflow.

Well, I have to say, he just doesn't have the same appreciation for the subtle differences in the flavor that I do, he's burned out his senses a bit smoking for so long. Maybe in time he'll be at that point and we will likely want new VGs by then. He's happy using the teak and didn't even notice when I switched them. :D

Keep him propped up, Lady. Hopefully that taste thing will correct itself over time as it does for most all of us......and he'll live longer so he can enjoy it more.

Lucky guy, if you asked me.

    ITS A TRICK!

Notice the wording. Don't worry, I've got this...

"OF, is he a lucky guy?"

(hopefully, he doesn't use the "if you asked me" past-tense scapegoat.)

    Should be good now, jam.

    Salutations,

The project aimed at finding a decent "Plan-B" is now well over on my side, please allow me to introduce my brand-new (slightly modded) Classic Maple VG Vaporizer:

VaporGenie: Classic Maple VG Vaporizer (Ref.)

This is the present configuration below and that might continue to evolve a bit as i climb along my learning curve - which is much easier on me than i once feared, more than a year ago:

A piece of white HerbalAire teflon extender tube was used to join 7/16" (O.D.) aquarium PVC tubing to the wooden outlet (through a short section of 5/16" PVC tubing meant to bridge the gap)... That extender teflon piece is now slotted longitudinally to provide some mechanical-relief similar to that in the original VG mouthpiece (which i prefered to replace for a rond black HA bag accessory/mouthpiece, eventually).

    :science:

This extending of my cannabic path was felt necessary because the *HOT* black assymetrical tip that came with my pipe simply prevented proper operation, as far as i'm concerned. Additionally, this "user-mod" rendered it much more convenient to control a flamme (no torch for me please!), since i have proper sight over the heat-exchanger aperture vs distance to the flamme.

Correct operation provides me very enjoyable "1 Hit" inhalations without delay, for all practical purposes: it takes between 10 and 20 seconds (with a 2nd heat-reducing rock in place) to obtain surprizingly tangible and tasty "samples" (Éh! Éh!) and without having to fear igniting a fire (at least not as much as without the 2nd black sintered puck, like before)... Perhaps if/when i've gained agility it may be possible to revert to VaporGenie's original intended configuration but it works and that's all i care about at this moment.

In short, i like it so much my HerbalAire hasn't been in use for days, because going portable grants me free movement - while vaping in my veranda, at last!! As a matter of fact, i can even vaporize in my bed if i must, as the load won't escape its bowl. Etc.

It would be difficult to offer a conventional review but lets just say i don't regret spending on this product, though i'd probably have much prefered the newer bronze model which the reseller didn't have in stock when i walked in his shop. Yet, finally... I'm starting to think of negative-pressure experiments, with the addition of a water-toy, etc., etc. So my guess is i won't really need to be curious about Plan-B alternatives for a pretty good while the way i look at it!...

Damn you Puffitup.com! How do I say no to a $40 maple VG, before FC discount is even factored in?

I hadn't used a classic VG in several years now and I definitely appreciate the slight design changes. The classic VG really is a brutally effective design for how inexpensive it is; I was blowing out a huge vapor cloud within 2 minutes of unpacking the box.

I felt the same way Charlie, though I have not tried the classic style yet, but I do have the hand carved, and it gets used daily. I actually picked the handcarved because it looks like a standard tobacco pipe, and I feel the classic VG is something you can easily identify from a distance.

    Salutations JamBandPhan03,

The local reseller i visited prefered not to pass the savings on to me and i got the short hot-lips version it seems (?) - BUT - it's still under a hundred Cannuck bucks and that's exactly what i needed overall (at least at this stage), as a matter of fact:

Everything including my grinder fits inside this 5¾" (L) x 4" (W) x 1½" (D) pouch that came with an electric razor (inherited from an uncle...), with some space left to carry enough essentials for the day if necessary... Maybe it will be possible for me to put back the original duck-lips mouthpiece once i've managed to become sufficiently agile with it, who knows (yet there's no real need, only curiosity)!

In retrospective i'd say potential customers may hesitate disproportionately while the sessions can be way more than just decent, it's possible i was sort of prepared through exposition to appropriate rituals using my table device but today i wish that i could have evaluated this much earlier in any case.

By the way, while thinking of trials... If there's something i'd wish the manufacturer could consider it's the wooden ball's finish directly around its heat-exchanger aperture: please don't finish it as a matter of fact!! Not to mention i didn't like the smell when i torched it...

I'll go even further: my suggestion would be to heat-stamp instead, as i'm probably going to burn it again anyway!... In short i'd call it the Egzo Charcoal-Finish option! Or maybe i'd prefer having a recessed layout with a depression rim carved into the surrounding wood, to only expose metal while protected with a wooden shield about ¼" away (since that's where my flamme touched, see above), with the benefit of slight air insulation on top i guess. The burning hot metal bowl (between 2 spheres) is a non-issue when this pipe is held properly, though a supplementary amount of protection wouldn't hurt while keeping in mind that excessive heat would cause damage (hence defeating such a safer bowl containment to some degree).

Yet this sample of user-feedback shouldn't make others hesitate for months as i have: my advice would be to jump on some nice opportunity when it shows up, to simply embrace the experience as i find there's a lot more to gain than to loose considering the cost alone!

    :peace:

I agree, the VG is the closest to smoking with out combustion I have found in the vaporizer world. I do feel though, that if I had started with the VG as my very first vape, I might have been a bit more discouraged, because it does have a learning curve and if you are not familiar with what good vapor is supposed to be, you might likely just scorch the load and not realize it, but then this is speculation because I did not start with the VG. I would not discourage anyone to try it though, first time vaper or not, these little tools ROCK~

I just wish I had been more on top of the bronze, it sold out while I had one in my cart...looking at the other stuff on the site.

on anther topic, I put one of the Healthstone heat stones into the top of my glass VG sherlock and got pretty good results from it here is a vid. I made by request of somebody in the healthstone thread... but since it's using my VG pipe...

nice, jam! my lhs owner was wondering what the differnece between the two elements was and I don't know...but it's good to see it works in that fashion. How well does the healthstone work like that with a flame lighter?

I checked out the patent on the VG, and it seems to be specific to three things (I am by no means a patent lawyer!):
-a disturbed airpath (achieved by the ceramic filter)
-used in a portable vaporizer pipe
    -powered by a flame

I think that may be why we don't see any gong type adapters for a water pipe...it's not covered by their patent. Those healthstones look like they could be used in that capacity.

Quick note on the HS, I saw a video where a dude explained that for oils on the HS, it's better to hold the jet horizontal so the air going in is heated by flame and vapes the oil, instead of the jet being pointed at the oil itself. You've got more experience with it than I do, jam, so if it works better that way, then power to ya ;)

well, that may be true for using it with oils, I was using the stone to vape herbs, I guess that wasn't as obvious as I thought it was... :D

I tried yellow flame, but it was too close to the stone, and it was nearly impossible to not touch the flame to the stone, creating that nasty soot taste, and it is also good to be careful using blue flame because it can cause scorching, it's not ideal use of either device, but I wanted to see how well it would work, and it does indeed work with the right touch.

**I looked at both the VG and HS disks under a magnifying loop, and both look identical.

    Salutations JamBandPhan03,

Yes, it seems this "modded" VG pipe of mine makes a fine learning-curve flattener tool so it's even better if my own climbing won't have to be too steep thanks to it. Like you i also wonder if things would have evolved differently without a background as mentioned... What i know is that i don't feel irritated and there ain't much hint left when i wake up.

Talking of leftovers (half-spent from my VG bowl), i bet those will happen to be baked to perfection so i'm most likely going to try capsules!

Here's one of the publicly-hosted pictures i found when searching:

Completely Inert Sintered stuff is sexy, but i already had a spare ball so it was easy enough to salvage the black fluffy ceramic puck inside. I just wish it were half as thick, or maybe they'll offer a 1½ x version that fits my pipe, eventually... If/when i become an "expert" at it (don't stop breathing!) i may revisit the original configuration and perhaps even like it, que sera sera.

    :peace:

    P.S.:

The video reminded me that i often need a warm-up inhalation, so to speak.

No, I got that part too, which is why I said that you had more experience with it, plus this is the VaporGenie thread... not the Health Stone thread ;) I figured it worked the way you were doing it, otherwise you wouldn't have been doing it. Have you tried the sideways method though? Feels like it would be cutting it close between vaping and combusting by pointing the torch straight in.

Just got one of the discounted, old-style metal VG bodies from the VaporGenie website, and I definitely like this little thing. It's elegant, keeps the vapor quite cool, has beautiful build quality, and you could totally bash an attacker in the face with it if need be. :o

I've been meaning to grab one of those, and was hoping to couple it up with one of the bronze, but they stay out of stock, so I just bit the shipping, I don't mind. I was tempted to buy more, but stopped myself... I love the VG stuff!! Dependable as long as I can see straight...

Got my discounted metal VG body in today, it's pretty nice, and decided to order a top for it from here: http://www.vapornation.com/store/vapor-genie-replacement-top.html for $25 (free ship). I picked black. Not a bad deal to have a metal VG w/top for about $45. I did put my handcarved top on the metal body to give it a test run, and I felt it hit pretty smooth, and didn't seem to get too hot in my hand. I'm happy to have it before they are gone, I think I like this slim body better than the look of the newer style. :D

Great pickups Jamband. I'm finding that I prefer the old-style Metal body over the wood body - it feels nicer, can be cleaned, I like the length and look of it, and I also find that it doesn't get uncomfortably hot while in use.

The aluminum body does have some weight to it which I was not expecting compared to the wood, and makes a nice hand warmer after a few hits, being in the PNW that is a plus. I found the VG gets me much more medicated than most of the other vapes I have, I only need 2-3 hits before I set it down, so I have not had any issues with overheating the body yet. I also found the load needs a stir every couple of hits to avoid scorching a hot spot and it helps the flavor stay nicer longer.

So I was wondering a few things.
    1. Is the top of the glass VG just a 18 to 14 reducer, or is there something extra that holds the filter in place?
    2. Where does one acquire said filter?
    3. If you where to take a tuff/cyclone bowl from the EQ and put it on a 18 to 18 male adapter attached to a bong and then placed the glass VG filter in the top of the EQ bowl, would that function like that?
