Iolite vaporiser

The Wispr that I used was not any quieter than the Iolite.
That being said, the Iolites do vary in volume from unit to unit.
I am not seeing a very large population of regular satisfied wispr users.
I do see old time Iolite Classic users very happy with their units.
In my opinion the Iolite wins above the Wispr hands down.

The IO is a great unit. The only thing is finding a reliable source for good butane which IO recommends. I used Nibo triple refined and found it just barely adequate for the task. It's funny how one never realizes the difference between butane until you have a device that depends on high quality stuff. I rarely used my IO these days but it still works fine after 1 1/2 years. It is an original and I have a friend who has gone through a few now which were replaced under warranty for butane problems. Great customer service as he ended up with V2 IOs for replacements. The V2 are much louder then the V1 as they roar and heat up faster but he has had gas problems with them. He seems continuously waiting for warranty replacements but can't complain as they do keep replacing them. He also asked the dealer in regards to the whisper and was told they are not as reliable as the original.
A little advise here would be to determine you have a readily available Butane source BEFORE you purchase. The IO is a classic in portables for sure,

Great call, IMO. Don't sell it short, I like using mine even when it's just in the garden....or inside where there's power everywhere. It's just fun to use and works very well. If you have bubble hash available, try putting 1/20 or 1/15 of a gram in the center of the load....lovely and it goes and goes and goes.....

Pay attention to the above advice from both Vitolo and Pipes, they might not be the cutest guys on the web but they sure know their stuff! Pay strict attention to the 'use good gas' advice. I nearly killed my first one with Ronson gas (which I've used for a lot of years....). Now I'm sold on Vector four times refined widely available on line:

You can also find it at cigar shops for their fancy lighters. A single can lasts for hundreds of sessions, it's worth a few dollars extra for the good stuff.

Iolite is a neat little vape everyone should at least seriously consider IMO, you'll like it I'm sure.

You might also look at Hammer (not the D9 version, the Butane one), a neat little gas powered stem vape IMO. Fun to play with, where Iolite quietly hisses along giving leisurely hit after hit:

Tested to 10,000 feet you know.....not sure how high you like to get but it's reassuring to know it'll keep up with you to that altitude......

Thanks for the advice everyone, how can I go wrong with you three here to guide me! I did look at the hammer and I think that it will become mine a bit further down the road but it looks like the iolite will fill the needs I'm looking for better for now. Off to ebay! I think I saw a few there for around $80.

You're welcome. There are actually lots of ways to go wrong if you're interested? For instance, taking anything those other two clowns say too seriously would be going wrong.....

Seriously for a moment, it sound like you've got a well thought out plan, super. Iolite is indeed a sound step for most guys (whether they know it or not.....) IMO, you should be happy with it. One caution about EBay, that's often gray market (meaning no warranty when the chips are down) but sometimes black market (counterfeit, meaning no chance.....). Be careful there, that's a great price if it's legit, a questionable gamble it won't give you trouble or a flat out rip off, depending. Buyer be ware country.

+1 for OF's warning about ebay items. Warranty is a big deal with this vape (and most others) and if dealing with a good dealer you can get warranty replacement quick if need be. Ebay forces you to go through manufacturers warranty steps which can be a slow process and if not a legit initial seller, you could hit some bumps in claiming. Of course after the first couple months you would end up dealing with manufacturer anyway, but you have a dealer behind you. Manufacturer warranty is 2 years.
Amazon is likely about the cheapest and great for returns as they mail out right upon a claim and leave it to you to mail in defective unit. I lean towards normal dealers if price is right simply because I would rather give money to the small guy. But that's just me.

Thats a great point with the warranty. The post doesn't say anything about being authorized but they go have a great review and it is new in the box.

See no mention of warranty except theirs, which states MUST be in original packaging and original condition as received and buyer responsible for shipping and good for 14 days. hmmmm

I did check Amazon and they no longer sell that I could find. Oh well, I'm sure thiers lots of good dealers out there.
I'm sure you will be happy once you get one on the go but be cautious, email the ebay guy and enquire into warranty issues. It is a good price.

"original condition as received"....let me guess....'it was sealed when we sent it to you...'? The brother from the frozen North points to yet another warning sign, advice for slow going seems even more useful. Wisdom of not shipping more gear across the border to the Cannuks not withstanding.

I noted the Amazon thing too, I bought one there not too long ago, my 'take' is they clamped down on dealers cheating on their Fair Trade Agreements. And Amazon supported them and EBay was happy for the business? To me this makes the prospect of service for gray market devices all the more dicey. Legit dealers forced off Amazon would be rightly pissed if the gray market guys got support on EBay sales seems to me. Yet more caution seems in order.....

Great devices when they work. Lousy (and expensive) paperweights when they don't.

I've been using iolites for about 2 years now. I've used other plug-in vapes but never another portable. In my opinion the iolite's functionality beats any other portable on the market now. I do not like the idea of using batteries for a portable vaporizer given if that if you are not somewhere that you have the ability to charge them then you arem't able to vape. Carrying around a single can of butane vs. batteries and a charger seems much easier to me. I also like the "set it and forget it" idea it uses as well. To my knowledge, and correct me if I'm wrong, no other portable vape on the market works this way, this being said it also makes it the easiest to use. Ive also noticed that if you remove everything from the bowl chamber and just put a regular screen back in, not only does it increase the capacity but also the air flow. The clouds I receive from mine have been larger then I've gotten from the Extreme both through water and just via tube. I recently lost my optimizer and other then bowls lasting longer, I haven't really noticed a difference. I've been looking at other portables and can't really see why I would ever want to get something else, can anyone change my mind?

If you are happy and IO is working good, than why change your mind? The IO is a great proven portable. I have one but confess I haven't used is a while as have moved onto the battery powered units.
The units which are just turn on and go include PAX, Solo, and now the Cera to name 3 popular units. Cera being the only true convection vape. Most vapes of this type are using conduction for the most part. The IO is a mix of both but mostly conduction. Having a back up vape unit is a must as far as I'm concerned. So why not something different just to have some variety. If on a budget a good back up is the vaporgenie.

For 160$ the solo wins IMHO. I'm a user of the Io for a year and after receiving my Solo this week, I only took the Io to clean it and put it again in his case.

I'm a long-time IO user. Glad yours is still working for you PaperClouds. I remember feeling the same way about my Iolite(s) before I got the MFLB, when the IO was my only portable.

I had a lot of issues over the years with the Iolite. I think I owned three in total. I never used anything less than 5X refined butane, but I still had to deal with clogging and operational issues that stopped my IO from working.

I'm on the other side of the fence from you - I find carrying around a can of butane much less convenient than toting 4-6 extra batteries. And with the Arizer Solo, no extra batteries are required for a long day (or two) of vaping.

At least the price has dropped on the original IO. $250 was way too high.

Thanks for Posting the manual, its competely different than mine. ??? Mine has a brass tool for removing the condensor. I am using a quadruple filtered butane. I read though the manual posted, and maybe my herb is too moist? Even with the condensor on and with all the extention tubes I still find the vapor a bit too hot when I draw. Not painful just really warm, perhaps I just need to get used to it? Next, is there such a thing as too dry herb, the manual sugguested the drier the better. ??

Are you speaking of the "optimizer"? ( I own it but do not use it)

same here about using 5x or higher butane and clogging.. i was bummed out, but i found mine starts flowing fine if i whap the side of it a couple times while the gas valve is open...

when it comes to the LB for heavy use i would rather carry the butane myself.. i really like the solo and soon i'm giving my iolite back to my friend who gave it to me (new-first fill), so i plan on getting a solo. iv'e used one once and i loved it.. and as i understand the battery lasts many hours like you said

Usually at least all day for me. Sometimes I'll have my emergency MFLB handy if I know it's going to be an especially long time away from home.

How any IO sessions do you normally cram into a day?

I used to carry a can or two of butane around with me too. Unfortunately if you are on foot then you also need to carry a bag to lug the butane in .

I've been thinking about trying to fix my old one to see how/if it works. I'm not in any way an IO basher, I have some fond memories of using it, but I wonder if that's because at the time there was little to compare it to.

i know what you mean.. this was my first portable... or first vape period, i guess... but after trying out other vapes and the solo, the iolite can't compete(for what i desire). it's not that i don't still like the iolite, the solo is just perfect for me... i have no problems w/ the iolite.. i like them and would recommend them still.. to whoever... if i wasn't giving this one back, i would love to have it in my line up still.. it's my only butane vape and is more useful for certian things.
a can of butane lasts me so long i can't imagine needing to carry 2 ha.. i get away w/ one fill before i leave home if i'm not going too far for too long.. i can get through a day like that if i took it easy... i only spend like 3 cycles heating up, and then i puff on it steady until its done... so i probably stretch my butane a little bit??
i always wished i could find small (~1/4 size)cans of quality butane ha.. they could probably make a lot of money selling those to vape sites haa...

This is true there are Calibri minis...
and, even smaller ones (of inferior butane)
AND... when you empty the tiny butane containers... it is easy to force them full through heavier pressure... using your favorite butane (Vector guy here)

which I wasted, and then refilled with Vector

my iolite original arrived very quickly 2 days after buying for $125 on ebay. pretty solid device, a friend that used it said it was the easiest to operate compared to every other vape i have. as far as the hits go after about 3-5 minutes it works better. i detected no bad taste using the unit flavor is very pure thumbs up for that they even have the optimizer and a v syndicate iolite branded card grinder in the factory sealed box now. and it came with an extra screen so fine you cant even see through it, needless to say it will clog over the stock one. the unit is very light even with fuel and fits in a pocket easy or in the pouch
i never thought id acully own one of these due to the high price, i got my launch box around 2008 when the i0 came out to the market and i paid around 100 for the box and all original accessories. most vapes shouldnt cost over 150. i plan to get a wispr next most likely in black , possibly green or blue... EDIT: id just like to say the unit cycles 1-5 times after shutting it off not a huge deal but for stealth it will still hiss a few times if you just flip it off and put it in your pocket right away.

They've come down in price quite a bit over the past year due to the Wispr perhaps. You can also find them pretty cheap used mostly because people can't seem to figure out how to use them properly. I like mine a lot. It was my first portable and has served me very well. It's a solid, discreet device and does its job quite nicely, IMO. In my experience it benefits from a few minutes warmup time before you start hitting it. And I've always used high quality butane.
