I just received my GR8TR Vape in the mail and it does exactly what I wanted. It gives a very consistent fine grind with no large pieces of bud that are unbroken. My small space case would always have large BB sized chunks here and there that wouldn't fully extract well. I'm already noticing that the ABV is more uniform and I can measure things out more easily. I'm really happy I grabbed this when it was on sale, I shouldn't need another grinder for years now.

Looks identical to mine, you saved me from posting a photo. I thought I might get an older one like the photo on the site I bought it from that had outlined text for logo, but got a new new one with the solid text logo just like you

It is quite nice (I think this is the matte as opposed to the glossy the main site offers a choice of with no explanation), well thought out unique useful design, I can see they changed quite a few things from my old 4 piece and I guess the first gen 3 piece... The teeth are different (including a little side point in each tooth and a slightly different shape) and the threading is nicer along with a deeper etched grip (first was worried about a knock off based on recent post but I check the site). It is taller than using my 4 piece as a 3 piece with a nice big chamber, but yes it is pretty compact yet with a solid heft, since they both work it's nice they're different in several ways. Love the dark grey, it's shinier than expected, like dark titanium silver, definitely glad I got it. All cleaned up now and look forward to using it!

Oh and the Piranha aluminum stash jars are pretty nice too, good size and heft, but a lot of threading with no o ring, decent enough for out and about though and I'm going to glue them together so it's like one dual container for herbs avb (or two different strains even, a larger amount of a DD with a smaller special blend)...

When I got my gr8tr I used the fine mesh screen almost exclusively. Now I am using the medium screen and prefer it to the fine. I am using a Haze. Bigger clouds, easier to grind. Make sure the screen is as tight as you can make it as well as the bottom piece.

If you are using ISO to clean it use a qtip rather than a soak. There is a teflon ring on one of the surfaces that is pretty much invisible to see. I don't think it likes ISO.

The screen doesn't apply to the Vape variant of the GR8TR as it's a three piece. It doesn't come with an extra chamber nor an extra grinding plate which is fine with me since I only wanted the fine grind plate and a three piece. :D

What's a good way of getting a new grinder ready for use? Qtip and ISO to wipe off any dust and such?

I just had a Ziploc with a little iso, went piece by piece shaking up in there so they're immersed then rinsing em in warm water and dried with air plus a hair dryer for speed. No reason to soak (or use soap, which I don't think I'd ever do even when dirty) when it's unused imo

3 piece you say? Photos please! :D

...you can also put in freezer for about 20 minutes...not a intense clean...but it will work if not too dirty.

I have the jar Gr8tr and got it mainly for the extra screen. I took out the jar section and the screen too. Maybe consider ordering the medium screen (the spare screws into the top black cover). As mentioned earlier after using the fine for quite a while I now prefer the medium.

After using the SCS for a while, the kief is very nice.

I like it. Thanks SCS! I still like my Space Case more I think. Except the SCS has a better, more consistent grind.

The new teeth have little points in the middle this is true.

IS it too small for you? What are you used to? I am used to the Medium Space Case, the Large SCS is quite a bit larger than that. I think the Medium SCS is a bit smaller than the Medium Space Case

I'd contact SCS directly and voice your concerns and then report back here with their responses. It also wouldn't hurt if you mentioned that you are an active member at FC and that there is an on-going thread here about this issue. You may even want to invite there here to respond. ;)

I've been using the same titanium anodized 2 piece Space Case for over 8 years now and it's working just as good now as when it was brand new, but the pic that @t-dub posted up of his orange SCS sure got me thinkin' of maybe gettin' one. Purtty........!! But if in fact there are manufacturing variances like you describe, I may just hold off a bit.

Would like to say that it is actually great now. I guess they got complaints earlier that the tiny screens clogged. So they changed it so that once it's "clogged" it functions well.

It's not really clogged fully, anyways.

The teeth actually are shaped differently than before it grinds really nice just as it always had, I don't know why they changed it since I think it looked nicer before but if it does grind better then that's fine. I can't exactly tell a difference since I gave my older SCS away to a friend but eitherway, works great. There aren't as many teeth, so maybe that's why? The points allow for a lower total number of teeth, and as such, a more-affordable grinder.

...like having two different plates...used to like the fine one better...after using the other exclusively...not so sure...they both have their place...
I like using the fine plate for denser bigger hits and the coarse plate for a longer more flavorful session. I completely agree both have there place and one does not outshine the other. It's really a great grinder.

I just thought it would be bigger
I can't escape it at home and I can't escape it on FC!

My O.G. Cali Crusher showed up

Reasonable price, magnetic lid, with a plastic washer on it for smoothness and diamond shaped teeth. I only have plastic grinders to compare to, but it has a nice smooth action (for now) and seems to grind with a medium coarseness. Threaded bits seem reasonably idiot proof.

Currently trying my best to fill the keif catcher :)

So Just about a year on its still here. Its got a bit notchy over time even with the plastic washer and the teeth can get a build up in a few areas that need attention now and then. I've given it a cursory clean before and been happy enough to carry on but today I decided to soak the top two bits in hot water along with the plastic washer and its back to a nearly new feel.

Here is the washer pre clean

I'm happy with the keif it produces. Very fine but takes time to build up

The screen is pretty fine and can clog up, generally use a brush to keep clean from time to time

I was happy enough with Cali Crusher's so decided to try a small Homegrown

Overall it is a better design, the teeth don't seem to clog up as bad and I love the 1/4 turn threads, every grinder should have these

The mesh is a lot coarser compared to the OG which means it does fill quicker but the keif is not as nice

Luckily, they are interchangeable so I should really pull my finger out and get something finer in there.

The small Homegrown actually stands taller than the larger OG, this means that capacity wise I'd say there is only a bowl/J or two in it which was surprising. The downside is that the Homegrown doesn't fit in my stash box unless on its side. Not exactly a deal breaker.

Overall I personally prefer the Homegrown, I think with a finer screen in there it would be getting close to my ideal grinder. Conversely the other half seems to use the OG more, ironic as I bought the Homegrown for her, go figure :)

@Pablo13

I really love the look of those interrupted threads they're a great idea for a grinder. The most annoying part about my space case is the amount of turns required to get the pieces apart, my GR8TR is better and has fewer turns. I'd really like to see some more interesting lock up designs. Something like a rifle bolt would be cool with multiple locking lugs. Probably wouldn't be worth the machining time required though.

Hello Everyone. So i finally received my 3 piece SCS after a long delay in the mail (Thanks USPS!), and i was briefly inspecting it before i was going to do an iso clean and start using it. Right away i noticed several large marks in the bottom dish, 4 of them, where the paint seemed to be scratced away or something. After looking at it further, i noticed quite a few imperfections that i wanted to share with you guys to see what you thought. Personally i think im going to return for a new one, becuase i bought it directly from the scs website so i figured it would top notch.

So in these you could see 2 of the 4 marks in the bottom dish that i was talking about, one with flash on a flash off.

Here you can see some scratches on the bottom of the middle piece. Nothing major, but still didn't expect to see in a new piece from the scs website

Finally in these two you can not only see those markings i was talking about, but you can also see several areas there the color is already chipped away and you can see metallic, one of which being the top of a few of the teeeh, and as well as along the rim of the middle piece. Which also looking at the threading of the one of the earlier pictures you can see some fading of the color along the threading as well, which would make sense because i was just turning it with nothing in it to get a feel for it, and i noticed some blueish shavings (?) on my hand after i finished... Not 100% if it was from the grinder, but i don't know where else it would have come from since i had just cleaned my hands prior to trying it out.

Overall I can tell why these grinders are very popular around here, it is extremely well made and i would be an extremely satisfied customer if it didn't have these issues. I understand some may think i'm just nitpicking, but i'm hoping others here will also agree that i should probably send this one back for a new one. Thanks for your time!
