Discontinued Omicron Vaporizer for oils

I used my Makita HG on low and had major issues trying to keep the entire cart from heating.

JMHO, hold the bottom of the cart and slowly heat the funnel and top of the cart to get the oils flowing. If you can't hold on to the bottom of the cart with your bare hand, you are getting to close to hot.

-Z
right now im just using a pencil torch and with what im putting into it, im getting an uneven load

That's one of the keys, keep the seals at the bottom cool or you'll make a chronic leaker out of it. The other key is to preheat the center section (below the load) before melting the load out of the funnel. You don't want the just barely warm enough to flow load to hit cold metal on the way down and cool.....it's going to stop flowing right there (bad fill) and you might not be able to heat it up enough where it is without wrecking the seals.

IMO a heat gun is not the answer, it gives less control where you need more. Normal lighters on mid power settings work better for me. Torch types over 'candle' types, for the same control reason. You might be able to find a oven setting that would do the job if we could get a safe temperature number (probably not known?), but once you think it through it's easy to load IMO.

If you 'do it right' you can actually feel the hot load drop down under your fingers, it gets much warmer over just a few seconds. Remember, stainless steel doesn't conduct heat very well at all, it doesn't 'travel down the cart' very fast.

I did so because one guy had the balls to ask in the forum how I would use an Omicron when the Gpen is now available!

I show in this video that I can reproduce a pen like the Gpen, or Trippy Stix for 16 dollars.

Go, Vitolo go! No prisoners.

You could have played with the little minds a bit with a drop or two of e-cig juice in that 'new' cart....

You didn't did you? Another missed opportunity...

Guys can I get feedback on taste?

What I'm looking for is when you load the cart how's the taste at first and when it's almost done.
Omi cart?
Edit: If so, with a new cart, I get great flavor for a while, then good through out most of a .7 load, towards the end, .25 or so, the flavor goes down hill quick. I think the residuals from medication is what brings the flavor down when its close to empty, also when its close to the end of its life. Witch is the main reason a washable cart is so intriguing.

Naturally, the taste at first may be slightly chemical, if not well purged.
10th hit and on always tastes best. After it has been going a bit.
As the gram is almost done, the taste becomes more deeply "hashy" (hashish like)
if refilling a cart, the taste does not get bad or worse even as the carts grow slow functioning.
The very end of a carts life... if it had been refilled repeatedly, does develop a very slight "dark" (for lack of better word) or tarry essence.
IF THE BHO is well purged, and clean-
1st hit is always most delightful!!

i have a simplen question but im not sure if its been asked? ive been with this thread since page one but dont remember it coming up.

will leaving a empty brand new cartridge in a hot car for over 8 hours damage it? because i know that with a filled cart it will cause leaking and the cart will never fully work the same (in my experience).

but im wondering if anyone has had any experience with this? i dont want to fill this bad boy up if it will just constantly leak. id rather chalk it up as a 8 dollar lost than waste my concentrate in it

Good question. I think the answer is lots of us have without knowing it. They are not shipped in temperature controlled conditions before you get them. I'm sure many see fairly high temperatures.

The problem with filled ones is I think the filling not the cart. It thins out and once it establishes a path through the seal it's like a small leak on an earthen fill dam, there's nothing to stop the flow. That is once the oil get under the seals you're cooked.

I read a few pages back that the HVD tops are going to be recalled, so I ordered the $10 v2.5 top. I don't know why there is delay on having us send them back though, if there is a hazard present (i.e. pocket burns) or other possible hazardous situations. I would be calling them back ASAP so more problems didn't sneak in. Either way we will be sending them in at some point, there will be some delay in being able to properly use the HVD top. Why wait and leave room for mishaps? Also wondering how the customers who possibly don't read this forum often will be notified?

Hi, hope that everyone had a great 4th of July / weekend. I read the post above and just had to share my 4th of July story, I call it:

"Is that a lit rocket in your pocket or did you just turn your Omicron on by mistake?"

So my friend calls me up on the 4th all upset that he can barely speak on the phone to me. He has MS and sometimes gets a little frustrated and hard to understand. I finally get him to calm down enough to explain that "the wires are coming out of the Omicron and the cartridge is stuck" I'm like what wires are you talking about, but he says that he wants to bring it over to have me see if I can fix it. I have no idea what is wrong but I tell him to bring it over now. BTW he really says he likes the "no hold" switch so that he does not have to hold it down.

So he comes over and explains what happened, " I was sitting in my car in my backyard and I medicated with the Omicron and then put it in my pocket so I could smoke a cigarette. I was smoking the cigarette and I felt my leg getting hot, so I thought that a hot ash from the cigarette had fallen on my leg. I tried to brush anything off my pant leg but there was nothing there and it was getting hotter with smoke coming out. I realized that it was the Omicron and hopped up and removed it from my pocket. It was super hot and smoking, so I turned it off and put it down to cool. Once it cooled down, I could see that it had leaked all over, including in my pocket. Now I tried to remove the cartridge but I did not realize that when I was unscrewing the cartridge, that it had stuck to the screw in the HVD top. So I was not unscrewing the cartridge, I was unscrewing the screw in the HVD top. That is when I saw the wires and I broke the solder joints when unscrewing it. The cartridge is still stuck to the screw but the wires are broken off."

Ok so now I see what has happened, so I use a vise grip, pliers and little force to remove the leaky cartridge from the screw from the HVD top. Probably time to try and reclaim the oil in that cartridge and toss it as a leaker. He asks me to resolder the wires on the HVD top but I tell him that it probably is not a good idea to try and use it anymore and that as I understood there is no warranty for that HVD top. I put his original 3.7v top on and tell him to not use 7.4v 2 battery setup until we get replacement tops. I am not sure if even he knows if he put on the 5 click lock function before he put it in his pocket, but we know that the reset can cause it to unlock anyway. I told him that if he does not lock it he should remove the cartridge and/or battery.

So at least no one was hurt, just a bit of hot pocket. But the HVD top was destroyed along with a leaky cartridge.

Sorry about the long story, I am not really upset about this (as I know we are getting replacements, soon hopefully) but wanted to share the story and also ask if we can get a little more info on how exactly the replacement HVD top is going to work (like how do you put it in the mode to make it switch between momentary and hold, can you remove the cartridge before the making the switch change?) and how soon we can expect replacements? Thanks G for any info that you can share. I know that you are busy testing so many new things that it is hard for me to even follow ;)

BTW since the Universe is showing such good results with flowers (but not as good with Oil) maybe you consider renaming the device (works with flowers) instead of redesigning to work with oils also. Anyway just a thought since I really want to vape flowers ;) and can use the cartridges for most Oils. Looking forward to see the results after more testing but looking good so far!

Sorry to hear that the HVD came apart, They are under warranty and you shouldn't worry about it. Send it in for a refund or you can wait for us to exchange it.

It works with oils dont get me wrong, just not up to my specs. So we might do something to fix it.

Thanks for the reply G. I would like to exchange it, so am just waiting to hear when the new HVD tops will be available and hopefully a little more info on how they will work.

1. How do you put it in the mode to make it switch between momentary and hold?

I saw you posted this info before:
"If you press it longer then 3 seconds the button will turn off when you let go, if you press it shorter then 2 seconds the button will stay on."

But I do not understand how you put the Omicron in the mode to make this change, please try to explain it to me again if I am just not understanding ;)

2. Can you remove the cartridge before the making the switch change? (So you don't overheat it)

3. How soon we can expect replacements? Before the end of July, hopefully?

Thanks G for your time and any info that you can share. I may have missed other info about this so sorry if this has been answered before.

Ok hope my brains working enough to answer.

1. I will explain this when we have a working sample.

2. This answer relies on #1 answer.

3. I will know more this week.

you should check the settings on the gun i posted. very low temp and watts, hair dryers have even been known to work. i do know that havealight uses an oven at 150 for 20 min with success, IIRC. however i have had zero leaks since using my heat gun, just fyi.

new carts taste great. agree w/ Vitolo (there's a surprise ;)) on degradation of flavor over time. i have carts that i ran hot that i won't use, even if the heater still works (might iso wash and try again, as jam has been doing).

Agree with carts that have gotten hot can ruin flavor, learned this the hard way by handing my Persei(3.7v dual 1.5's) to an inexperienced friend of mine!

I fill with a triple torch, now that I have a good technique, I've not had any leak issues.(but did at first with 5 ohm carts only) I have not used 3 or 4 ohm.

Hurry with the nail cart G, my friend is looking into a dart or revolution for bubble, I keep telling him to hold on, but he's getting impatient. J/K, don't rush, make it right!

What I'm looking for is when you load the cart how's the taste at first and when it's almost done.

tastes unseasoned at first

and then the best shortly in and then slow deterioization
never tasting like the nail although close at times

not a big fan of the dart for big clouds or big capacity but that sucker has the best flavor on concentrates. much better than the nail or omicart. I'm guessing lower temps might have something to do with it....

I'm sure there are heat guns with low enough temperatures, in fact I bet hair dryers as a class have potential? My concern is control. IMO you really don't want uniform heat, you want the bottom part as cool as you can keep it, the center of the tube hotter than the melting point and the concentrate just hot enough to flow. You can't do that with a 'blunt weapon' like a heat gun. Cooking the oil is bad and all or guys would use heat guns to purge? For all I know, maybe they do?

If the plan is to heat the whole cart uniformly I think an oven has the advantage, only it calls for knowing the target temperature and exactly how well calibrated the oven is (often not well at all at low temperatures). For sure HAL (assuming his formula is 'spot on') is in the best position to load large bunches of carts efficiently. I'm thinking something like the machines Budwiser uses to fill beer bottles with a long oven.....

Another interesting point, since I started using the technique I do (so the first bit of oil to go down stays molten the whole way) I've never had to prime a cart! Not once I can recall. They all hit fairly normally the first time. I suspect because the oil makes it into the wicks before cooling.

So I ordered a LV Dart to try with my Omicron HVD, and some 14500 batteries, but screwed up and ordered the opposite adapter from the one I need. I have an adapter that will allow me to use Omicron carts on a 510 battery, and needed the opposite. I must have been a bit over medicated or something.. I want to be sure I have the best adapter for the job, which is using the Dart on the Omicron battery. I recall someone saying that certain adapters had to be modified to let air in, i believe in order for them to work well. I would prefer to order an adapter that does not need to be filed or modified. Does the one that THC sells work well for this purpose, or would those of you that have tried a few recommend a particular one?

sorry to burst the bubble, OF. i have no issues with non-uniform heat. i heat the center, while holding the cart, then up to the concentrate. it's not blunt when the temp and output is low and controlled, as it is w/mine. i don't overheat the oil at all, much less than when i was using a low grade torch, actually. don't prime carts, either. i can fill 5 carts this way in under 20 min., all perfect w/ minimal "bubbling". once again, i would check the gun i posted up before i started telling people that i, or someone else who asks, "can't do that with a 'blunt weapon' like a heat gun." i do, i can, it works better than every other technique i've used. just fyi. you can differ in opinion on the practicality of use, but your points don't hold water to this user's actual experience. "cooking" oil, isn't a problem either. had much more of that with a torch, which is a much higher heat. i have an IR gun, if we want to take temps and compare which puts out more heat, air or flame, in this instance, but for my two cents, the heat gun i posted is a good bet. thanks

No bubbles involved, Bob. If you check again, you'll note I said there are no doubt appropriate heat guns? I meant it. We're talking opinions here, right? Mine is a guy can use the lighter he no doubt has in much the same way we seem to be (thanks for the additional information that you too heat the center first.....) without having to buy a special heat gun (or try a handy hair dryer....).

You seem to favor hardware, I'm favoring technique. No right or wrong way, but like everything else in life (it seems), it's a trade off? Lots of options for a guy to consider.....

Thanks.

no sweat, but for clarity, what you said was that you worried about control specifically, not tech. vs. technique, or lighter is handy vs. spending money. EDiT - also i already had spelled out my technique previously if you go back and read. as well as the fact that the board was asked, as i have previously been in pms which gun i use and why, so i gave my info. your response was that a heat gun wasn't the answer. both times citing control as the issue. i was disagreeing as control has been increased for me by lower heat and directed air. much smaller path than a hair dryer, but a few times larger than a torch tip. you can prefer using a handy lighter, which most people have, but for my money and possibly those inquiring, a lower temp, still controlled air path works better. and $20 isn't a huge investment in tech, imho. i've dropped much more than that on torches and nails. definitely lots of options, just don't want one shut down as non-viable by someone whose opinion is so well respected on this board. that's where i am coming from. the "bubble" was your perception that my tool isn't viable. i hope i did pop it as i wouldn't want to deprive someone else of a flameless, lower temp alternative, including you ;). not trying to say you should go buy one, but that all your concerns aren't necessarily necessary in this situation, in fact many are addressed, i.e. temp and control. you can get the same results with a lighter, no question, if not many wouldn't have ever used their omicrons yet ;), however someone was specifically asking about heat guns, so i don't understand the need to "bring down the hammer" on this idea, so to speak. once again, i wouldn't necessarily feel so strongly about clarifying this if your opinon wasn't so well respected on this board. thanks for listening

If anyone has the desire to make a brief cart filling video with the ECG mini heat gun.. that would be very much appreciated/helpful :brow:

Pretty sure there isn't a video on youtube doing that.

The best way to fill with precision, in my opinion, is with a soldering iron.

I use the ceramic tip of my Hakko Dash iron to heat up the upper sides of the cart then I stick the tip inside the filling tool, making sure not to touch anything inside. The heat off the tip liquifies the concentrate. Then I simply swirl it around the filling tool and in it goes, tilting it slowly as it fills.

i have used my Herb Iron in this same fashion, but as it doesn't get as hot as the hakko, it takes longer than i'd like. definitely a low temp and safe alternative, tho. good suggestion!
