I've lost count, but this is the first I've used that can be heated by a standard flame. I've been aware of it for quite awhile, but never took it very seriously. Sometimes you don't take seriously something that doesn't cost an arm and a leg, though you should. Plus I've heard some negative comments, but now I think they must primarily be from people who don't have much natural feel for "analog" devices. Although I can see some valid criticisms like difficult to use in wind, one-handed, etc.

This is the most literally desert island vape I've come across. You could heat it up with a lit twig and be set. Now I can retire to a desert island.

That's only because you've never come across the rare and now out of production friction powered Vapman.... No fire, a cord you pull through it.

FWIW, I think Vapman has something to offer as well. If this kind of vape is fun for you, you should check it out. A neat and very effective unit IMO, a truly 'tick tock' thing with strong Steam Punk aspects as only the Swiss could make.

For your Robinson Crusoe fantasies how about a curved mirror or magnifying glass? No twigs need apply. Of course you'll only be able to vape in daylight......you'll have to chain smoke from dusk to dawn, but some sacrifices must be made you know....

If you find the desert island with top shelf pot growing wild, please PM me the position, I've got a GPS, I'll bring plenty of vapes for both of us.

You play chess? We could have a lot of time on our hands........

Actually I was hoping for the mini series option myself. And to be perfectly honest, you're not my first choice of co-stars......Bo Derick comes to mind......

In a fun turn of events I know a fellow who was in the Seychelles on a service call when they showed up to film the beach scene with the lion....he took the day off. I never got duty like that, try as I dd. Some guys have all the luck you know.

As long as I can get a role as an extra I'm good;)

You've heard the Woody Allen bit about working in the Crazy Horse Saloon as a student? "I'd help the ladies on with their costumes, watch the show, pick up their clothes and take them back...". He then gets asked what happened. "I finally had to give it up, it was only $200 a week.....but I was a student, it was all I could afford....".

We play chess to determine who is Man Friday for the day? Someone to aim that mirror? Better brush up on my openings.

By the way, you'd better patent that ripcord vape idea before somebody steals it. :) The Vapman is one I'd like to send some time with.

I like that you use the term pot - too underused these days. Cannabis is so clinical and marijuana so ethnic, good ole pot is where it's at, though I hardly say it myself anymore. Pot pot pot. Smoke me some pot. New pot on deck. Feels good to get back to basics! You old timer.

It was a real product. IIRC the instructions suggested tying it to the door knob......

Vapman is neat, mine's right here, great for leisure times in the garden. You can get an unfinished one without mica from the factory for about half price. It works just fine, mine came in less than two weeks, cost me a dollar for the currency exchange and came in a neat packaging as well. Swiss are fun folks if you've ever known any.

Vapman and my favorite three dollar lighter (works great with VGs too of course) are both recommended:

Edit: BTW there's a fun video of them building them:

That first vid of them building that vape made me think of this... LOL

The first one builds the story a bit, the second one is the punch line :D and to keep this mildly on topic, the VG is my favorite vape to use right now... :p

Salutations Satyrday,

I've been aware of it for quite awhile, but never took it very seriously.

Same here: the risk of combusting stopped me but not anymore...

Now i think i'm ready, so lets see if i can climb that learning curve!!

Although i doubt i'll ever manage to handle an original wooden VG pipe these modifications appear to work for me so far. That quest of mine should be over in a couple months at most, IMO.

That's quite a setup there! I have a lot more to experience in the VG world.

I think the term "combusting" alone scares a lot of people off. It makes it sound so dangerous, like your going to have an out of control situation! Burn the fuckin' house down!

The worst that can happen is a little char and then you get back on the bike. It's like with computers, you learn the most if you just play and experiment. The wooden genie shouldn't scare anybody off. Even if you combust the hell out of it, throw it in the can and buy a new one for a few bucks. Consider it your training wheels rig.

Edit: Ha ha - reading back my post I sound like Dr. Expert though I've only had it one day! I guess I'm just surprised how easy it was after thinking along the same lines regarding combustion, learning curve, etc. Maybe I've just found a good personal fit and as usual YMMV. Also, pretty sad that all I'm up to on 4/20 is blathering here...

Hi again Satyrday,

That's quite a setup there!

This is the full set of what i figure may prove useful to me during my next few initiation weeks. Right now i can't tell for sure what's going to be my final selection, tough you can bet it won't all fit in its (owner-provided) transportation pouch (for those times when i travel out of town)!

MouHa! Ha! Well i guess i've grown some intolerance to anything remotely connected to combustion. In the begining i prefered to clean my modded vapo-pipe after a mishap but i can deal with the slightly charred stuff more and more as i keep trying to improve.

...you learn the most if you just play and experiment.

My impression as well, which is exactly why i've included a torch (top left corner of picture) among other things! As a matter of fact i'm looking for a dual flame lighter, most likely a Vector one judging from what i've seen on the net until now...

...throw it in the can and buy a new one for a few bucks.

Such an option may sound practical if the item cost only 35 $ USD and it's not a hundred miles (170 Km) away... In my case it was more like 88 $ and 1:45 by car since i happen to live in the country-side, surrounded by great Canadian wilderness!...

Indeed, to an ex-smoker as myself it seems that the loss for ignoring it would be greater than the money saved - even if the price-tag becomes a bit exagerated on my side of the border. Not to mention i had to acquire 2 units in order to build a single 1 which now suits me fine (to obtain the 2nd sintered-ceramic puck from an older version which i destroyed in the process, because no reseller around here can be expected to keep some in his own inventory)!...

I'm not sure I'd want to use a dual flame torch with the VG. I find using a single flame much easier to direct the heat and wouldn't want to scorch the sides with the wider dual flame (I have a triple flame that I find almost useless).

Yeah, I wouldn't want to toss mine either and it cost only $32, but that would be my plan I suppose if needed to nail the learning curve.

Nice talking with you Egzoset. Don't mess with the moose! (as if I need to tell you)

congrats satyrday...amazing you got the hang of it so quickly! I've got a torch lighter on the way and hopefully I can get that technique down as easily as you did.

During that first try before achieving the first productive hit, I heated it briefly a couple of times but got no visible vapor (not counting those as hits). I heated it a little longer each time ... creeping up on the sweet spot. Because of not wanting to combust, and knowing that the jet flame is very powerful, those first couple of attempts were very brief since I was not sure when I would finally hit it right, and didn't want to go too far. Too little is better than too much especially while getting the hang of it, which I'm still doing, really, since I still have to be very conscious of the process. Not automatic yet, but so far no major combustion.

No, that's not what i meant. There are lighters with two types of flame: "Candle"/"Soft" (yellow) and "Jet"/"Torch" (blue)... In any case here's one that's hard to beat in terms of cost as it's almost a jetable:

Hi,

This one is very affordable, if not just cheap... Yet it's flint-less, refillable and does a honest job even when held horizontally...

egzoset...so that is a flame lighter with a piezo ignition like vg recommends, yes? do you have a link you recommend?

Both of these lighters are great with all of my VaporGenies.
The less expensive larger torch's flame stays blue but can be made
a soft flame easily.
The eternity lighter of course was more convenient to carry, but it is
hard to beat a soft blue flame!

So the kind of blue flame that I assume Egzoset's Ronson produces is in the same blue temp range but is not quite a high pressure torch, not jetable.

I've never had one with a soft blue flame. My torch at its lowest setting is somewhat soft, but not nearly normal lighter soft. Interesting.
