I prefer the jet flame, but my main complaint about the blue flame is how it's hard to see in day light. Out on our patio, I can't see the blue flame at all.

...so that is a flame lighter with a piezo ignition like vg recommends, yes?

Quite correct, most unfortunately i've got my hands on that particular lighter before i found a link... Usually the situation is reversed, as with duplex units which i'm still trying to sort out in another thread, for example:

I got the Ronson Refillable at a local store for a few bucks, it gets hot after lengthy periods in a similar fashion to the Bic miniTronic jetable (i don't suppose these were built to work that way!) so this is one reason why i search around for something with some genuine solid feel to it...
...it is hard to beat a soft blue flame!

Woops! Please allow me to thank you, Vitolo, since that's one more variable i still need to account for: now i'll need to sort out the "Soft Blue" types against the other ones... It's definitely better to think of that before an expensive purchase rather than after as some of those toys don't come cheap!

So the kind of blue flame that I assume Egzoset's Ronson produces is in the same blue temp range... Interesting.

Sorry about that, Satyrday: the Ronson lighter which i wrote about doesn't burn blue!

I seem to require both yellow & blue, at least for evaluation purposes. Also, i may find out later that a blue flame is more practical at night or under a windy environment... Now i'll have too watch out what type of "blue" i find!! So that was certainly a good read for me today, thank you everyone!

Any idea how the VaporGenie Pipe Lighter differs from the Lotus L1100 Gaucho exactly?

I have the vector dual ignition switch, soft/blue flame (pictured on left, above). It works pretty good, but the yellow flame is a bit inconsistent. It gets bigger and smaller, so you can be hitting your bowl and suddenly the flame gets twice as big, and then shrinks back down to small again. It also seems to run through fuel fast. I keep it around for backup, and it is nice to have both options in one package.

Salutations right back at you!

I'll be interested to hear what you come up with. Hopefully you don't just prove "jack of all trades, master of none" applies. It would be cool to have both in one package (plus a soft blue?).

Hi again,

Hopefully you don't just prove "jack of all trades, master of none" applies.

Well, the Vector Armor just took a drop with this piece of relevant owner feedback:

I have the vector... ...the yellow flame is a bit inconsistent.

There's only a few candidates, many things to go wrong and my best lighter for the VG (so far) was the Uni-Apex! It's no duplex item though.

Hi there Satyrday!

...here's a selection with videos if you haven't already run across it:

http://www.buylighters.com/Dual-Flame-Lighters_c_66.html

Good find, it's providing me 3 more designs to investigate all at once!! Additionally, among the others i recognized the "Vector Dupla" which i was curious about recently... Plus, i also noticed the "Emerald Dual Flame Cigar Lighter" (e.g. "Eternity Dual Flame Lighter and Punch Cutter" vs "Double Flames Slide Lighter" respectively)... It was a nice gesture to share this resource in any case, i'm certainly going to search this very soon!

I'll probably pick up one of Vitolo's Harbor Freight big boys - want to play with that soft blue flame.

Same here about the "Soft Blue Flame" option, since this is supposed to generate less by-products than when dealing with yellow flames it seems (at least that's what i've gathered from my recent reading)... If i don't scorch with it and it's cleaner then i don't mind what colour it is, as a matter of fact i'd prefer blue flames over yellow ones at night and/or outdoors in a windy situation. Lighters looking similar to the Vector Nitro didn't retain my attention so far but this may change considering i wouldn't mind having a table model - not to mention i've experienced acute sneezing issues apparently triggered by vaping since a few days now, so if blue is better then i'm interested as well!...

Harbor Freight Micro Torch
I am never without them. I have two at all times... in case a friend needs one.
This one looks like it would be fun to use with a genie:
http://www.turboflame.co.uk/arc.php
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Turboflame-ARC-Table-top-Lighter-Mini-Jet-Blowtorch-NEW-/251262013639

I've read some positive feedback on it in another forum. Pricey compared to yours and I don't know if it does the soft blue flame. But it looks like a cool space-age conversation piece and apparently very solid and high performing. I'll definitely be getting the Harbor Freight torch, but this one may be in my future also.

Edit: BTW, last night I got a little too casual with my genie and charred my biggest spot yet (approx 1/8" wide), but not big enough to ruin the bowl. Just mixed it in and soldiered on. Only barely tasted it when it happened, and not at all once mixed in. Love my yellow genie!

Saw a version just like that on amazon, ebay, or alibaba for around 15 bucks or lower. Did a quick search with no luck, but I'm sure it's out there somewhere...

Just came in the mail! This thing is a beauty! All natural wood, the patterns in the grain are awesome! I love how quick it is to pick up the hit style, if you've smoked out of chillums and smaller pipes, you won't have a problem! Boy did I get lucky for 34$ I couldn't be more impressed! Now off to vapornation to buy some replacement heads to make as bong attachments ala sticksnstones! Or a coil, hmmn what to get...

P.S. looks as though I might be ridding myself of my chillums!

Salutations everyone,

After 6 weeks using my personalized version i've decided to modify it once again, in hope to shorten inhalations and hence reduce exposure to butane-related by-products as a result.

Here's what i've done:

The foamy stone on top comes from an older version of the VG which i had to destroy in order to salvage it, diameter suffered slightly in the process; consequently i was unable to invert positions as i wished initially. That disk is about 3 mm thick, i also used a file on main one (now 5 mm) so i could get an overal (side-by-side) thickness of 8 mm approximately.

I didn't want my herbal load to touch the heat-diffuser right besides it (i heat my bowl from the side), the brown dotted mark represents a metal mesh installed in between for this purpose exactly.

It also seemed desirable to define the space seperating my filed-down pucks more precisely, a second screen occupying a volume measuring about 3 mm thick garantees there can be no cantact between those 2 bodies. My intent in doing that was to experiment with possible ways to limit hot spot occurances, future sessions will tell if i'll obtain such additional protection at all...

:science:

Most unfortunately, a butane intolerance pattern has been emerging recently and this could very well force me to evaluate Bee Line fire (hemp wick) - likely to be combined with basic water filtration (as that's candle-style combustion). At 1st it gegins with nasal congestion, ignoring this sign apprears to trigger repeated sneezing which brings me to a halt status...

39.gif

Consequently i'm back to square #1 trying to figure out what's next. In the meantime i wonder if a soft blue flame would help so i'm now trying to decide if it's worth the trouble of seeking the perfect Duplex/Hybrid/PolyFlame fire source!

Switching between my Ronson lighter/butane and other brands/models doesn't seem to eliminate the signs as observed, at least this new modification feels better in terms of duration and experience linearity (less abrupt transitions), possibly with the benefit of aptitudes acquired during the previous weeks. Though i still need direct eye-contact with the flame so i can avoid soot build ups, hence my extension tubing may have to stay for a wee bit longer, or more...

A side-effect of the slightly shorter inhalations could be enhanced sensation of taste/aroma, but water conditioning is about to defeat such benefit. I plan to sort it all out eventually.

Hi Egzoset! Have you tried triple refined or higher butane? IME Ronson smells awful...

Salutations SSVUN~YAH,

Have you tried triple refined or higher butane?

It wasn't possible for me to get my hands on triple-filtered butane at Canadian Tire... There's little hope i'll find that at IGA or Walmart and i'm not overly optimistic about Rona, Super-C or Tigre-Géant.

IME Ronson smells awful...

I can't smell it at all (unless i cause soot build-ups), yet i just can't ignore my physical reaction to it neither. That's why i've tried various lighters, the Bic miniTronic and Lotus Gaucho included. I do concur entirely with your sound piece of advice though, as difficulties with my L11 may happen to be an additional indication that triple-filtered gas is actually required... Which sounds like bad news to me under the present circumstances!

These by-products affected me as well when I used the Ubie (using 5+ filtered Vector), but not so with the VG yet.

Not sure if you've investigated the Hammer, but it provides the benefits of a torch-based vape without direct inhalation of butane combustion by-products. Also true for the Vapman.

Thank you for this testimony, i'll be very curious to know how things evolve for you, as you can imagine!

I'd rather not go back to dry cannabic vapour...

Not sure if you've investigated the Hammer...

It turns out i've contacted Head Tools recently, he confirmed that his cannabic vapour is pristine -BUT- dry.

Well, i've heard of the Vapman before but i like the Lotus better because of its water filtration (bong) option. You can expect more feedback from me as i make progress. Wish me luck!...

Salutations Satyrday,

...for a more hydrated experience.

I regret there's only one option which i've tried so far that makes this particular feature conveniently portable (e.g. the VG)... But it turns out i have some late developments to share so i'll begin with some visual hints right away:
ndx2td.jpg
Water Toy + Lotus Gaucho (L11) + Modded (2-Stones) VG
+
wk4nqt.jpg
Xikar PuroFine Premium Butane (30 ppm impurities)

That's not nearly as portable as it used to be but there was no sneezing reaction although my nose felt moderately congested. In fact many things can still go wrong (even simultaneously!) at this stage, so i'm going to hold my conclusions - just for a while...

Good luck!

Thanks, i think it worked!...

Salutations SSVUN~YAH,

Awesome setup! Hope you nailed down what you need/want...

Thanks, twice!! And i was able to locate a more decent butane source, finally, so with that in mind i'll have to search the same-name line of lighters soon i guess!... Or maybe not, that will depend if the strange behaviour of my Gaucho will resolve completely after this recent change of fuel.

Anyway, here's what my notes say about this 3rd personalized version:

« Hummm... At this rate i'm not going to need 6 weeks to get the hang of it! »

Fingers crossed.
