Glad to see others entering our Timber height discussion. Makes me wish I called it the Tallboy, but I had to follow the wood theme. It may be popular to use names like chip, stick, and twig that may shrink the perceived size of a unit, but the name Timber says TALL (vs too tall) from the get go. Tall is an accurate description, while too tall, in my opinion, is an opinion.

As someone who voiced concerns in this thread about height of the Timber, this seems to be a taunting message and a great way to alienate customers or was that not the intent? And yes there are other vapes that are too tall, operative word 'too.'

I for one am excited to see how it compares to my Classic and LB Elite. I don’t expect to be walking down the street with it (for stealth I have an oil pen or a Grasshopper - though my classic gets a lot of “stealth” use (or no one cares?). With wood and an 18650 battery, I just don’t see how you miniaturize it. The issue at hand (or what will be in hand), is height versus girth - for some, girth may outweigh concern over height. Ultimately, @Bravesst will see what the market says. Besides, from what I can tell, how many here on FC don’t have VAS anyway?

Also, I’m glad you called it Timber - maybe a Tallboy for my beer....

Hey FC! New to the forums, but a long time lurker. Just ordered an elite, and very excited to get my hands on one of these bad boys. I love on demand style vapes (in love with my lotus) and can't wait to add the lil bud to my collection. Ordered mine in Koa. Hoping to get some gnarly grain patterns in this beast!! So excited!! Haha

More building, less typing sounds good, but I'm not sure I can build anymore than I already do, even if I kept typing to a minimum. I can still cut down on typing, but as Ralph Kramden once said, "I have a biiiiiiig mooooooouuuuuth!" , and really can't help myself - for better or worse.

A couple assemblies will happen today, as all my coils for this batch are formed. I'll get some pics of the coils before installing them. It's a finicky process, and once the initial rounding of the mesh gets a little away from you, sometimes it's best to just start over to save time. Either way, all built and ready to be dropped in.

I am going to apply the Timber E approach to the Lil' Bud E, as far as connecting the coil to the board. It will involve butt connectors vs ring connectors - a bit more streamlined process. I'm looking forward to incorporating this change on this build.

Not much else happening. Please feel free to discuss amongst yourselves...

Nice relaxing day in the shop, got my last Classics for this batch assembled, as well as a simple repair (battery terminal replacement) complete, and 30 cover plates roughed out and marked up. The cover plate is that whole other process that makes the Elite a reality. I like to stay a head of these, and use any spare time I have to work on cover plates. I can get way ahead on plates because they aren't likely to change much. My buttons will arrive tomorrow and I'll get to work on my LB and Timber Elites. I will be experimenting with a new way to fasten the cover plates, with the use of a stainless steel dowel pin. No promises that it'll work, but we're gonna find out.

Most really cool exotics are hard to find in thicknesses over 3/4, except in turning blanks, where you can find many, many different species at just the right size for a Timber. I'm browsing my favorite online lumber yard, and realize the sky's the limit.

Some of the species I'm coming across that may work for bottom or top sections...

• Leapardwood
• Purple Heart
• Ziricote - pricey
• Bubinga
• Black Walnut
• Hickory (super hard, traditional pipe wood)
• Bocote
• Wenge

I haven't looked closely into each species, so not 100% sure if they'd all work, but these are available in our size range. I would absolutely consider doing small batches of a special wood if I knew there was a demand for it. I'd like to hear your opinions of Timber Elite exotic options.

I’m pretty sure @phattpiggie has worked with those species. You may want to reach out to him to learn from his experience. It might save you some time and $$$.

Thanks for the feedback. I will eventually select one or two exotics and build a few. Speaking of building, all Classics done and custom wood buttons have arrived! I prepped the boards, now I need to pair with plates, and it's assembly time. I added to my cover plate inventory by 28, and I had about 20, bringing close to 50 of Cherry, Walnut, Maple, even a few Koa. At this point my general inventory (in pre-assembly) sits at approximately 30 LB Elites, 8 Timber Elites, and a dozen LB Classics. I'll be adding Square Hi bodies to this list soon, as well as Timber Classics and my latest idea, Timber 510 (five - one - oh).

Since I suck at keeping secrets, here's the plan. Install the female half of a 510 connector to Timber, allowing you to connect your instaHeat or other 510 dry herb device. I've determined this is not only a viable option, but not much different than the Timber Elite as it stands right now. Some of the final specs need to be worked out, but I believe this is a well thought out, winning idea, and I should have no problem bringing this to fruition in a timely manner This will allow everybody with an instaHeat (or other 510 dry herb vape) to make full use of the Timber's DNA 75c programmed for our kick ass coil.

My *ball park* price guess is $175. PM me if you wanna get on the wait list or you can prepay and lock in at $150 (free domestic shipping). I'm sure it won't be less than $175 in the end, with over $75 worth of parts necessary. The Timber 510 will have a quick turn around, as it's pretty much built. I'm shooting for early fall 2019. The unit will have basic Timber specs and have an interchangeable battery as well as the Evolv DNA 75C. If all goes well, I plan to sell this as a package with the instaHeat.

Nice! It really seems to me like there is an opening for a Cannabis-specific mod box in the herb vape segment of the market.

Maybe this is too similar to other products, but my suggestion would be to make the Timber a two part unit. Make the base essentially a wood mod-box, and turn the top heating element into a 510-threaded, iHeat style device with no glass if possible, carrying on the all-wood vapor path tradition of the LB and Elite.

I would even suggest taking it a step further, and make it compatible/interchangeable with the Insta Heat, so if someone wanted, they could purchase a Timber and an Insta Heat, then have the choice of using their devices with either the unregulated plug-in Insta Heat base or the regulated battery-powered Timber "mod-box".

Do I get to take some credit for the idea?

I actually got this suggestion from 2 other sources as well, but thank you. After pre-assembling a few Timbers, it became quite obvious that the lower half of a Timber Elite is a dry herb specific mod box waiting to happen, Timber 5 1 0. I'm happy to put this together, and will begin once this August batch is assembled and shipped. I guess the Timber 510 deserves its own thread, but in the meantime, it's listed as a pre-order sale on the website for $179. Coupon code WOODEN510 saves you 15%, bringing the price down to about $150. Not sure how long this code will last.

I've got some more 510 connectors on their way. These will be installed on the lower half of the Timber, eliminating the top section. How I'll finish the top needs to be worked out, but I have some really cool ideas.

In the meantime, I've been really enjoying both my LB and Timber Elites. If I had to compare, I think I personally like the more narrow form, as length really doesn't matter to me. The unit sits on an end table, and I'm not trying to hide it. I think I got into more because my wife has tiny hands and really likes the feel of the Timber. I think having the coil physically removed from the board and battery does change things a hair. The unit runs a bit cooler, and after lots and lots of testing, I think this gives it more punch and keeps vapor smoother.

Either form, there is no question that the DNA 75c from Evolv pairs so perfectly well with an instaHeat coil and dry herb. Great job Evolv!

Would still be cheaper to buy a mod box but it would not be hand crafted and surely not as elegant as the Timber 510 will most probably be .

Yes the Timber 510 does fill a niche market, about as niche as it gets, but there is no reason it wouldn't work with a traditional e-cig atomizer, it would just need to be programmed differently. The key to the LB Elite, Timber Elite and Timber 510 is the cover plate that allows the DNA 75c to be seamlessly integrated into any unit. I could route the mortise, I could mount that cover plate into a softball. If I designed the LB Elite with the DNA board mounted to the unit vs the cover plate, I'd have to redesign its placement in every build. My cover plate turns the DNA 75c into a very flexible piece of vaporizing equipment. Once that got perfected, I was bound to expand it.

Tomorrow I will put all this aside and build my ass off. I have an August batch to fill, and my eager customers just wanna get their hands of their LB's and Timbers. I have 5 more units to assemble, then pack up. Labels are already written out.

Let's face facts. Good, bad, or ugly, there are other cheaper (and oh yes, more expensive) vapes out there. So why would anyone by from Vapwood?

Interesting concept, and you're probably right, a bit bulky to pull off, but who knows what the future holds. Certain specs need to hold up. For example, the coil compartment and tapered hole takes up about 60 mm, and needs to be 29 mm wide, minimally in all directions. Remember, we have 3 elements, battery, board, coil.

Today I'll be assembling some Elites... including my first sold Timber Elite. I'll be posting some pics of final products before packing up. Hopefully today will be a very productive day in the assembly shop.

The Timber E will be Waple (maple base, walnut top). I'll be *crunching the numbers* on this build...
