Back on the road. It's just a vape, but I don't have the selection of other vapes that some folk have, it's been a fairly unsatisfying few days without it.

@Brenyo, thanks very much dude. The new parts are cool, and it clicks!! I never gave the click discs a thought when I put the new housing on, a little surprised when it clicked bang on the 3rd marker
VI coil also seems to be more accurate than my previous coil, more noticeable with back to back refills.

Going to spend some time getting used to the new indicators before trying the boro baws.

This device just keeps getting better all the time.
You're going to have a lot of happy customers.

Quick comment about the Wand: it works fine. I have been using the Tempest with the Wand since early December of 23. Before that, I used a torch on Dinovaps because the torch hit harder. With the Tempest and the Wand, I get MUCH harder hits than with any previous vape.

Messing around with lighters is a pain for my lifestyle. Before the Tempest, I used torches out of necessity to get the hits I wanted, but that era is now over for me, thanks to my Tempests.

If anything, I'd suggest saving your money and getting a Reload, a backup Tempest, and/or a backup Wand for the price of a new IH. Look at it this way: I think there is a GOOD reason Mad sells an adapter specifically for the Wand. By the way, I am not knocking anybody who is in the market for a heavy duty IH. I just think most new Tempest users will be best served with a Wand, especially if portability and stealth rank high on their "must be able to do" criteria for a vaporizer. Take it from me: you can get well baked with a Tempest and a Wand.

But I am biased, too, as I have been using the Wand-Tempest combo for 7 months. It's kind of an easy habit.

Before Mad Heaters was able to better calibrate the clicks and VI, the Wand made it possible to get the best experience out of the Tempest. Because the clicks and VI were inaccurate, and this has been fixed for the upcoming release, the only (reliable) way to use the Tempest was with a Wand, at least for me.

The new click disks are awesome. One click goes off midway (when the VI hits the middle mark); at this point, the blinking red Wand light turns solid. The second/end click goes off right after the Wand solid light turns off in its "time out" signal. The VI is as far to the right as it can go for this last click/Wand lights out.
This has the point about the wand that everyone should understand.

The Tempest was designed around and built for use with the wand. And you can tell. Never had a smoother and more fulfilling experience with an IH and a device. Only tried dynavaps but the experience with them sometimes are the reason you see the hardcore torch only folks. Tempest, I have no reason or desire to use a torch with it personally. My testing has proven to me that any difference between the signature/heating time/flavor are all insignificant to my personal tastes to not use the wand. Maybe I’m lazy. Maybe I can’t multitask socializing or just being high with operating stuff enough that I enjoy it.

Tempest and wand has been the only IH expericne that I have been able to dial in precisely to drop in, double click and wait til the timeout. Reheats with it also seems to have been thought about or it was a genius fluke. Because my repeatable experience at different temps, ball material, and depth, I put back in same temp and instead of time out I pull out when it is solid orange. It’s consistent magic really and the only times I really combust these days is I’ll miss a cycle. Oh fuck, it’s cooled, let me reheat and I’ll pull earlier.

This is a great song! Oh what? We had a tempest bowl going? Damnit I heated it too long!

And my favorite part: just give it a bit, then hit it. This right here has really displayed to me how it convection heavy, as intended, with the wand. But apparently only the forge can bring out the convection magic in the tempest. Though I can’t know for sure nor could I see a difference being worth that price tag and bulk. Already showed it to a buddy and he said it looked like a device his single sister in law would enjoy so there is that.

Anyway. Despite the new IHs popping up, I see absolutely no reason tor anything else than the wand to perform better or more precisely, as intended in the IH space for it being a portable device. Sure more power can be helpful for it ye impatient need it now society , but trading away the portable size of the IH is more harmful than it was to purchase, packaged and shipped to ya. Ultimately it really doesn’t matter and the more people who have done them, do them or have experienced it, work with them and talk to them.

I received mine as well but need to install. Is there a good video tutorial on how to replace the VI & click discs? Eager to try :) Thanks in advance.

The link to this how to video is on the Madheaters website on the Tempest page you navigate to "learn more" and scroll to the right where it says how to use.

First time I did it, I thought it was a nightmare. Second time was a piece of cake. It's one of those things. Tricky until you got it.

You definitely convinced me to buy a wand. I can't wait for the tempest release we are so close now!

I still don’t get all this dislike for the wand. It’s the perfect match for the tempest and all my time with it, I never felt like it needed anything more, works quickly and effectively, easy and repeatable. Perhaps battery could last longer and only reason I see a flare being better. But I can’t see how a torch couldn’t do what a much bulkier/less portable and more expensive IH like the forge can do for the tempest. Maybe if you’re at home using it a lot but tempest for me is awesome cause how portable and nice it is to use anywhere and everywhere. Carrying all you need in a little pen case.

Edit: Also I’m a bit confused on how people were trying a bit ago to make the tempest more “conduction” like, and now it’s that you can only really get that “convection” when using the forge cause it’s faster? Yet in the past the issue was it had too much of a convection signature…but describe the wand as heating it more in a manner that leads to more conduction?
My dislike (initially) came from having a faulty wand - now its just... not as good by comparison

The Forge can do a lower power setting than the Wand and because of that you can do a longer and lower and slower heat up than the wand. The wand does the job - but you get to do different things with something with more power, I really am enjoying using the same bowl of herbs across multiple heat cycles where I start the Forge on low and slow and then increase the power on the reheats.

My hand free for the Forge

I have damaged the cap, I have tried sanding it down but apparently I don't have good sand paper, but I have taken it apart so many times now it feels second nature & I was kind of scared to break it at first

I enjoy your point of view, maybe if the wand I had originally wasn't faulty I might not have tried others... that being said I was disgusted by the price of the forge and the batteries... but... I rarely use a torch anymore and I didn't think that would ever happen... I use the Forge like the wand, I set a power level and just throw it in until I want to pull it out. It does seem to heat in a way that I can't replicate with any other heating method - and I have tried... I don't know...

I have two wands because being without it at any time couldn't happen. I’m a fan. After reading that I’m actually salivating for the tempest! I have the site on my homepage so I can continually check it even knowing I’ll get a notification email.

Still curious about how the wand and tempest used to be convection mostly, to the point of you seeking how to get more conduction out of the tempest, to now that you have the forge you say the wand can only really achieve a conduction leaning hybrid signature with how it heats. What changed? Or is it just having the forge, makes you view things differently.

Just wanna make sure the info I am seeing is reliable and understandable. Wild how obtaining a new IH can completely change the wands signature for you. Forge is pretty impressive to even alter other IH just by being in their presence! Perhaps it has some sentience

I didn't actually say that the wand can only do a conduction signature; I was saying the wand can't do a 11 second heat up which was purely convection bias which isn't the same as saying "the wand can only do a conduction based signature". The wand just provides one setting and you can't change it; which is what I was trying to point out by that statement.

In my experimentation with different torches I was able to heat the Tempest with different size torches in different ways and get different results, all I am saying is that when you get a IH that you can change the power level on you get the same sort of experience as using a torch that you can turn up and down.

My wand; to be VERY specific; did not deliver a great experience with the Tempest - I was able to get better experience using a torch and varying the power I was using, it allowed me to dial in the experience to fit me. I could never get the wand to work the way I wanted it to.

The Forge; being able to change the power output so that I can heat up slowly and reheat very quickly - using the same device - makes a difference to the experience.

This is the main thing really....

I end up using the Forge in a session style. I set it up with a low and slow to start and the swap it to a quick and hot so I can do quick little heats to maintain the Tempest at peak vaping temperature for two or three minutes with little reheats to replace the heat taken after each breath. This change in how I use the Tempest, this session style of use, longer sessions, more radiant heat, more conduction... It's only possible because of the ability to change the power output of the IH.

This is also how I use my TA's and the VerdaBlunt *shrugs*

@Brenyo Hey, will the upgrade kits be distributed from the EU as well ? Those import tax customs bs costs were killer last time -
No unfortunately, it would be complicated to do, and the EU website is a reseller, which complicates it further. The upgrade kit is only available for the same account as the original purchase, and there will be different upgrade kits depending on when you ordered the beta.
There might be no tax on the upgrade kit because of the low value.

I had a case, when I had a thing to import, some replacement part with value of 20$ that was sent to me for free. Seller made a random invoice with an item valued 100$ and 80% discount on that price, so the price got to 20$ basically, as it should be.
At the end, customs charged me tax on 100$, which I find wrong.

Could be better to have invoice with price paid, rather than discounted price for upgrade beta kits.

with approaching release, I'll have to make a decision of the color to pick 😭. I would appreciate to see some used tempests especially the all blacks to gauge how the coating is holding up :).
I usually get the untreated options out of fear it might look scratched/dented after a while but some color (black deserves to be called that too, it has feelings as well!) in life won't hurt 😂

I got green and will share the petina/fade later this weekend.. there's certainly an amount of wear. The mouth piece and carb show the worst. The shield has some wear too because it's the place where the device rests. I use mine multiple times daily...

The whole wait I've been leaning towards the black/rosewood combo. I could have grabbed a beta a few times but decided to wait on the complete unit so I could grab it in that style. Now that it's getting closer though, I'm considering the other stem so I can soak it, only down side I see to the wooden stem is an easier soak/clean.

I gotta say guys, I absolutely love the tempest as a whole.

But I might even prefer just using the Tempest head with a 14mm J Hook. Using the wand to heat it up until around the 3rd visual indicator notch.

All I can say is wow, absolutely beautiful clouds of vapour and for some reason my flower is hardly toasting. So smooth.

Do we know when the Tempest heads will be available to order? Can they be pre-ordered at the same time as the tempest?

I'm in two minds whether to buy a whole 2nd device or just a new head. My device was probably the very latest round of Beta sales.

Hey @Brenyo will we (prior purchasers) be notified at all when the upgrade kit is available to us?

I only had a few of them and it’s not the full upgrade kit yet.

Yes if you’re signed up for the newsletter (it won’t send a confirmation email)

Get black for sure. The color has not faded one bit since January. Also, you get the bonus for if/when you have a glass sleeve: you can more easily see vapor go up the spiral. It's fun to watch. The black Tempest contrast vs the white vapor is... (you fill in the blank).

Neither of my stems need much cleaning at all. The only place on the inner lining that collects resin is where the bowl meets the spiral insert, and not much! Easy iso swab on either the Ti or Wood. I soak/shake the other parts ;)

quick questions

1) looking for a portable vape like this that can both run with an IH eventually but also with torch, for keeping in my camping (short trips, will mostly be using IH) bag. I want it to last forever and be reliable out and about while also giving the most joint-like experience and quality you can find in a vape... and also be able to do big rips if necessary :) this thing seems to meet the bill for sure, yeah? was also considering dani/anvil but the tempest just looks top tier...

2) when this is released will shipping to Australia be available somehow? thinking about the new vape ban here... not sure how that affects anything

3) super paranoia mode - any concerns about heating up the 'clicker/spring' mechanism and pulling in air from around there or am I overthinking... I know the entire device is really well thought out and super clean, one of the reasons I'm interested, just overthinking :)
