I received my Tempest V2 (all Titanium edition) on Monday this week and it’s been a happy week since!
I own the Tempest V1 as well and while I do like that one, the overall experience didn’t match the quality of experience of my Vestratto Anvil, which ruled supreme over all my other portable vaporizers (including the Tinymight, Mighty, Arizer Go, Pax 3, a few different Dynavaps, the Camouflet Convector XL, a bunch of StickyBricks, and the Stunner).
However, the Tempest v2 is something else — mainly because of its heft and the airflow / wide open vapour path. Holding the thing is amazing already, the machining, the weight, material choice…it just feels well made and super premium, just a joy to handle. Then it’s dialed in with the Wand even better than the V1. 290C till Time Over notification gives me the perfect vapour & extraction. With the V1 for some reason, my device tends to combust if I leave it in the Wand till the click. I worked out a workflow with the V1 eventually, but the V2 just is more plug n play for me (might be a device specific discrepancy rather than common to the series). When it comes to the vapour, I just love how the heat transfers from the balls to the herb chamber upon slow and steady pulls…there’s almost a ramp up of heat with the first puff or two being soooo tasty and flavourful and then shifting over to thick dense clouds with the second/third puff & beyond. I have somewhat high tolerance and I like to extract the max I can get out of a bowl and my Anvil will go straight to the RTL-type extraction it’s known for, which is cool & suits me. But now I’ve come to appreciate that (brief) gradual lift I get from the Tempest V2 because I seem to get the best of both worlds from it: awesome flavour AND strong effects.
The best thing about the V2 for me though is the airflow, basically its non-existent draw resistance paired with the amazing cooling for the fairly short vapour path. I usually like to keep external air inflow to a minimum in my portables, but on the V2 I love opening the airpath up wide, it just works so well.
I think part of the appeal for me is the that the thick and hefty body of the Tempest V2 gels perfectly with its airflow to produce a cigar like feeling / experience, which I already loved about my Anvil but I feel the Tempest v2 does even a bit better. It’s all very smooth, very present and ritualistic for a lack of a better description.
Using a Reload also, the workflow with the Tempest is very smooth — load, heat, vape, empty bowl, repeat. I’ve come to prefer the Tempest’s integrated bowl over the Anvil’s removeable bowls, but both are great.
I think the only “issue” I have with the Tempest v2 is that the bowl could be even bigger — MadHeaters claim 0.2g capacity at max setting, I feel it’s somewhat less than that…I’d love something like the Tempest or Anvil but with a 0.3 / 0.35 bowl capacity (that darn tolerance lol).
Oh and the other issue is the price — I paid a whopping 289€ for mine (from Verdampftnochmal) and I feel the “new” Wand adapter is actually a 3D printed downgrade to the silicon ring & glass bowl that came with the Tempest V1.
As of now, my new Top 3 ranking on portables is as follows:
1. MadHeaters Tempest V2
2. Vestratto Anvil
3. Camouflet Convector XL
