Discontinued The Grasshopper

This Vape Critic dude has looked at the GH from completely the wrong angle. It is NOT a session vape, if you try to use it as such then of course it will get hot and uncomfortable.

He doesn't get the form factor or why it looks like a pen - well that's a bit obvious for anyone with a modicum of intelligence surely? from shirt pocket, hit clicker wait for heat up and hit it all in under 10-15 seconds from start to finish - it's called STEALTH!

No real mention of it being pure convection and the benefits of that to efficiency and flavour either. My use of flower has reduced considerably using the hopper over other conduction or conduction/convection vapes. So much so that my volume of flower consumed has reduced by at least 30%. I can vape 3 bowls every evening and 2.1-2.2g of ground herb will last a full week.

Zero mention of the lifetime warranty either which is a massive plus. When you factor that in it becomes an extremely viable proposition and investment and he has approached this review from completely the wrong angle.

Of course it's all subjective and he is entitled to his opinion but for me, the positives far outweigh any negatives with the GH.

+1, he looks so bored to do this review, it's really weird ....

I heard that vapecritic was a shill who was paid to market kandypen or some shit, correct me if I'm wrong

I wonder if it has to do with the fact that he doesn't have a referral link that gives him kick-backs?

His firefly2 review was the opposite. He defended every legit CON and hyped every PRO. It was weirdly awkward in exactly the opposite way of this review.

I like his reviews but clearly he let the delivery wait time and "his" likely numerous (dare I say annoying) YouTube subscriber requests to effect his objective critique.

I expect a "Vape Critic" to do at least as much research as a consumer and check the largest vape forum on the web for best practices like putting more than just the cone in your mouth or clicking the hopper off 3/4 of the way through the hit. These are basic tips he normally gives...

Stay up Bud, but stay professional too...

I'm chuckling to myself...takes some real chutzpah to call Bud a shill, particularly considering some really obvious shills and touts on FC for various vapes.

Yes, his review surprised me too, but no....he's not a shill in my experience.

here is one more review featuring Hopper. this time it is compared to another stealthy unit. but Hopper blows it away in terms of vapor production by some margin.

I'm home and testing the GH :-)

I don't get so much Vaper, like in the review videos. It is my first Vape ever, so I have to learn. I take any good advice :-)

Till today, I did not know, how this herbs are tasting. It is still a bit strange to me.

grind your herb coarse. put half full chamber and don't pack it! keep your material loose. then turn it on max temperature and see what it can do trough a water piece.

some also say that it is nice to do first little heat up draw. to taste those crystals. then make a second long draw to generate a cloud. hope you enjoy! :leaf:

People shouldn't be offended that someone who calls himself the vape critic, is actually honest and critical about the item he received. I appreciate the honesty in his reviews.

I think there are two main reasons people didn't like his review so much.

-They own or have purchased a GH and have an emotional attachment and like to think they have made the best decision possible based on their research, and the product they purchased is great and the ultimate, etc. and don't want to hear any negative criticism about the item they purchased. (it happens to many/most people with various products, its understandable)

-And second, and I think this is actually an important part, it is one of the first videos he has done without big dark sunglasses on, so you can see his eyes and all of his eye and eyebrow movements, which may come off as negative, disinterested, sarcastic, etc. He was no doubt doing the same thing in the review videos we all liked, but we couldn't see it with the big dark sunglasses on.

I don't think that's the point. First, he has other videos without his glasses on. Secondly he was overly negative about two things that were stylistic and did not affect function. Things he has never done in the past. I've watched a bunch of his reviews and I don't own a grasshopper and even I felt this review was a bit off.

No one is offended that he's honest because he simply wasn't.

I'll simply refrain from complaining about his review, and won't defend the GH anymore. No matter what one says, it's because we have an emotional attachment, "fanboy," or defending our purchase. If it sucked I would say it sucks, but it doesn't so I'll just stop bothering. :peace:

The Vape Critic's latest GH review is saddening and distasteful. It seems he was biased from the start. Shows lack of professionalism and respect. Very immature I would say. Mismanaging the box vape, almost throwing them around? No longer support the vape critic. I bought the FF2 after a lot of research. Decided on the FF2, and still am of the opinion that the FF2 is better than the GH. Yet, he was wrong on so many levels with this review. Disappointed. Hope he removes it and makes another which shows more neutrality.

LOL I didn't care that he talked about the hot tip. What bothered me is he was so absolute. As in not like a 'critic ' like hey the mouth piece gets hot its similar to this vape or another comparable heat source. To give people a reference. Simply stating "ah it was too hot for me to use at all" doesn't really help anyone at all.

Heres the kicker though. If I had watched his review I would not have bought a hopper. The funny part is I've already owned mine for 1.5 months and I absolutely love it. My experience is different than the critic though. I do use mine on all heat settings without the condom. Without an issue. Actually it did get too hot this weekend. I was baked and didn't realize the bud was gone. So I hit it for a ridiculous amount of time.

That's the thing, everyone seems to have their own unique experience. What held me off from buying a GH for the time being, despite the fact that I love the design, is the many people throughout this very thread echoing what vape critic said about the mouthpiece getting too hot to use as is, and that it is best used with the mouthpiece or through water. Others say it is fine as is without the mouthpiece or water.

I'm sure I'll try one eventually when they are more readily available, and will be able to judge for myself...

It's pretty clear that the Vape Critic gets paid for his reviews from at least one company. No one I know of normal intelligence that has used that many vapes would include "G Pro / K-Vape" and "CloudV Pens" on their list of recommended portables. Not sure what his beef with GHL is but also not sure why anyone cares. I agree that it's irresponsible and I hope it doesn't impact people who would trust his review and buy a "K-Vape" piece of plastic shit instead! A more fair review might have admitted the awesomeness of the vape while mentioning the pre-order holdup and warning about estimated ship dates.

Honestly at this point who the hell even cares about his review? People on this forum at least know by vast word of mouth (and other critic type reviews) that this is an awesome vape. Form your own opinions when you get your unit because I doubt anyone will get a refund based off his one review anyway. I'm overly stoked to get mine because of all the other videos and things I've read from a lot of people.

He's very upfront that he gets paid for his reviews. Every page with a link to buy he states he gets commissions on it. It could be he just didn't get the hype? He gave its performance pretty stellar responses, I think he was just underwhelmed, and surprised with some of his "negatives" likely based on the responses here and elsewhere. I've had that happen to me albeit not with vapes.

When you are told something is so astounding, so amazing, so perfect, but then when you get it certain things catch you off guard, it makes it hard not respond with "meh?" It is for me at least, lol.

He did say it was very well built and that he thought it was one of, if not THE best portable vape to be used through water.

He just also mentioned some of the things he didn't like about it as well.

Yeah, but watch the guys other videos. He may have technically covered the bases here but the review didn't come across as neutral in any way

I am not offended. I have much more important things at which to take offence. I was just surprised at the difference in his approach between this and all the other reviews of his that I have seen.

I have no problem with him stating the negatives of a device. With the exception of "why would anyone want a vape that looks like a pen" - which struck me as being purposely obtuse - he doesn't say anything that hasn't been raised right here on FC. Complaining about the trade-offs made to create this ultra portable stealth device is like complaining about how a boat that is designed to float doesn't submerge and return to the surface as well as a submarine. (Yeah, it's a rough analogy, but I'm hungry for lunch.)

My negative reaction was mainly towards his affect. I've watched many of his other reviews and - glasses or not - I've never seen him behave so disdainfully towards a device as he did here. As others have pointed out, he ignored some strong selling points that would have presented a more balanced review while still honestly pointing out the shortcomings.

Yes, he's a critic and he should be critical. I'm a consumer and if I'm smart, I'll try to take into account the biases of reviewers. Not always possible, but here VapeCritic gives us a pretty clear picture of his stance and how it colors his review of this device.

Yeah, but watch the guys other videos.

I have watched many of his videos. That's what I like about him, unlike almost all of the other youtube reviewers who refuse to give anything a negative critique, if there is something he doesn't like, he says it. There have been reviews he did on vapes I own where he pointed out what he saw as negatives, some of which I agreed with, others I didn't.

Though I know it really offends some people, I honestly think a lot of it goes back to the emotional thing. People get so emotionally invested in some things that they take any negative critique personally.

I agree it's not perfect, but honestly the way it's designed to look like a pen I don't think there's anyway around the big flaws (hot mouthpiece, heat). I think once GH Labs starts developing a second vape, it'll be designed to look more like a vape and alleviate the GH's main issues.

This is actually what I came here to ask/discuss.

With so many people having issues with the unit being too hot natively, it makes me wonder if there just wasn't anything GH could do to remedy that. Maybe it isn't possible to make a unit this small and powerful without it being hot? It seems like the consumers decided that the GH is best used with a water tool, which I don't think is something most people would assume if they just bought it without doing research in forums/discussions.

I mostly use my vape (Arizer Air) at home with a water tool, so the idea that this unit is best used that way is okay with me. When I do use the unit by itself out and about, I think I'll be okay with the heat. I don't mind trading in cool vapor for stealth and speed. Seems like a decent trade off for my needs. I know there are just as many people who say they don't have heat issues as those who do, so I guess I'll just have to wait to get my unit to find out for sure.

For me, the GH is one of the only portables on the market that suits most of my needs, and I guess it's just not possible to have a perfect unit. I'm pretty particular about my vapes and I don't mind giving up some benefits for its sexiness factor. I probably would like the performance of the FF2 more than the GH, but I just don't find it to be attractive at all. I just cant get over that "giant USB" look it has.

I think VapeCritic did provide some good suggestions that HL can use for future products. I'm already kind of excited to see what the Grasshopper 2 will be like, if the company lasts that long. That said, I've definitely lost a lot of respect for him because of just how shitty his attitude was. I'm genuinely confused how he could edit that video and still decide to upload it. It was just so different from all his other reviews--even for units he disliked--that I feel he forced people to wonder if he had an ulterior motive.

Here's another theory:

VapeCritic is a hero; a true public servant. For months he has watched us writhing in agony as we wait for our precious hoppers. Endless posts of complaint and concern!! Angst and sorrow!!! Confusion and consternation!!!!!

So VC decided that even though it would mean taking a lot of heat here, he would give us something else to focus on. And it worked!!!! Here we are on the last day of May and instead of a steady stream of whining about the lack of a May Pre-order Update, we've been engaged in a healthy exchange of ideas and viewpoints, just like the Founding Patriarchs intended. So let's consider this VapeCritic's most generous Memorial Day gift to us all.

THANKS VAPECRITIC!!!!

(Seriously, this has been more interesting than rehashing the same old stuff.)

Rather than ulterior motive (although I have no knowledge one way or the other), perhaps an exterior cause. Maybe he and Mrs. Critic had a big fight. Maybe his kid is really sick and he's worried. Maybe his day job boss is making his life miserable. Who knows? But whatever the reason for his approach here, he clearly did himself a disservice in the eyes of at least one segment of one "small" niche of consumers of his product. He might have been better served in the long run by couching his review differently. Not changing what he was saying; just how he presented it.

That's the thing though. In my opinion he should have covered this in more depth if he was a real critic. Basically all he did was give no comparison at all. I'm upset about it because I have bought too many hundred of dollars portable vapes based on fucking Reviewers like him, and I have always been disappointed until I got the gh. Probably because the Reviewers were paid to give a good review. So if he is just going to provide useless without reference reviews I will continue to denigrate his reviews.

He talked about its strength, potency, ease of use, hit size and vapor quality.....

Too much emotion on both parties (GH fans as well as VapeCritics apathy) but he said he liked it. Not sure why he can't complain about stuff he didn't like.

He gave it equal if not higher ratings with other pens he really likes. I think his attitude was how I said it: Underwhelmed based on the hype.
