Done!!! Followed everything you said- ss hopper, 2 spare batteries, though I wanted a case I don't need the headache of counting down days till it's in stock. Just made the purchase!!! Thanks for all the pointers, I'll hopefully have good things to report. One last question if I may. I skimmed thru all the cheap bubbler and glass threads already but still need some advice. What's the cheapest, smallest functional water piece I can buy for the hopper and use with my vapcap. I was thinking D020 but that needs an adapter from what I could tell, anything that's 14mm ready? Thanks again @Mr. Me2

FC 188 is your natural 14MM choice

Way better choice than d020 IMO.

StevenLMZ79's shop is where you need to go for said piece.

Sorry for not linking earlier. The link contains a copyrighted logo so I didn't want to link hence the Vendor/Model name. I'll be more clear though later!

I would recommend something like the FC-UFO, FC-MOD though. Something modular is always ALWAYS what I prefer.
Like this:

rBVaI1igBkmAWoGvAAJmF1AC0IA287.jpg

With a modular piece, you can decide whether to use just the base, the perc, or whatever. The options means you can use the piece however you want. When I'm stick, have weak lung capacity, whatever, I like to be able to change my piece up to fit my needs.

There is also this:
http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/7mm-height-8-quot-mobius-glassworks-atom/377522384.html
rBVaEFb3Z4eAXYkCAADKuIuYOMM276.jpg

The mouthpiece is what I like the most about this. The slightly smaller can may give you more flavorful hits at the expense of smoothness.
There's a lot I could talk about with glass options, especially as I've bought a lot of Chinese glass and still have at least another 10+ pieces for this year to order.

Look through StevenLMZ79
Hfy_glass
sunshinestore
yingmin5
cleanclearglass

just for starters.

Also, just get an adapter and use whatever piece you want. The adapters are about 5 dollars, it's worth it. If you order a piece, simply ask for whatever you need extra. I almost always get it for free (adapters, clips, etc.) with my order.

Good luck, please hit me back if you need any more glass advice for your hopper.

@GreenHopper Have any recommendations for on the go glass for the hopper? 6 inches and under?

I know you asked Greenhopper, but I would use a Jhook. Then, if I needed water I'd just use a perc in conjunction with the jhook.

Like this:

But choose the perc part that you want/need. @ataxian has a couple of pieces setup like this for vaping that gave me this idea.

If you don't understand or need me to actually find one of his setups, they're very compact and perfect for a person who wants something on the go.

This is one of the percs you could use:
http://www.dhgate.com/store/product/new-15-5cm-glass-ash-catcher-for-water-glass/372510597.html

Otherwise, I just use this for my smallest piece:

Sure thing bud,

You could go for:

Budgie Vaporizer Water Tool £29 from Vapefiend

budgie-bubbler_2.jpg

Known elsewhere as a Hydratube or Pinnacle Pro Water Tool Micro Shower Hydrotube 14mm adapter $35

My one is from @VapeFiend.com is just over 5" in length.

The issue's I have with them are:
  • You have to hold them upright
  • Need two hands when using with the Hopper
  • Feels like you are playing some weird StarTrek instrument type thing so you will start cracking up at that thought be halfway through your hit, now you know that it will happen every time.
  • Water could drop down into the Hopper
  • It's small but portable only when you empty it of water. You can't put it in your pocket with water in it but then I don't know of a portable water tool accessory where you could pocket it with water still in it so....
Other than the above obvious stuff the unit works quite well, is easy to clean, offers water filtering in a neat small package. Mine is quite thick glass as well so feels quite solid. There is also the F-Bomb on VapeFiend, same thing but 2.5x the price. It looks like it may have a better perc but I didn't think it would be 2.5x better. Anyone with an F-Bomb care to comment?

Another option could be this '14mm Mini Water Glass Adaptar stem tool Kit, Water Filter glass tool' [$26] but I haven't used one myself.

There is also the 'W9 Tech Nibbler G spill proof water pill' [$99]

It's supposed to be spill proof but I haven't used one myself so can't comment. But I know someone who can... @Vape Dr. showed up in post #6509 how to attach the nibbler to the GrassHopper using some silicone tubing:

I'd recommend looking at instagram for glass bubblers over DHgate these days, DHgate is twice as expensive as it used to be, when the quality is much the same. (Crappy)
Artisan glass is much better quality, in function and structural integrity as well as aesthetics.

I'm thinking of picking up a Trap Traveller or a Floating Recycler
16906343_1549760701731422_2915511963318484992_n.jpg

These little guys retail at 160 but I got a much lower quote when I contacted the blower directly.
https://www.instagram.com/trap_glass/
That's twice as expensive (or more) than China glass but they are incomparable in person.

A little 3-hole bubbler is very nice with the GH, I have two now of different sizes.
Though something bigger might be better for cooler hits.

It's good to get a feeling of what dynamics you like in a bong with cheap options, but if you're a daily hopperheap then nice glass is where it's at, and it doesn't have to be expensive.
The Grav Labs bubbler I linked to from the FC classifieds is priced well and is a nicer piece than my more expensive DHglass.

Some DHglass is well worth it, a matrix sidecar is pretty nice with the hopper, but again, there are better options. A real Mobius Matrix would blow it out of the water, and there are similarly good options with much less than the 330 price tag

Bloody HL. How soon is soon?

When 3 months turned into 13, I can't be sure what is meant by 'soon'.

I'm hoping they can chuck a couple WPAs in with my warranty return.

These guys are worse than me with deadlines.
I'm assuming 'end of Feb' is not looking too likely

My red/blue flashing wouldn't stop until I decided to take a hit anyway. Soon as I started inhaling it went solid blue and ripped like a champ. Still, time to go order...

EDIT: ...GH No.2 is on it's way!

Whom on DHGate sells that y adapter? I'm so doing the Dual GH Challenge!

Now if this happened and the problem is supposed to be the sensor then logic says stuff get under the screen and cause problems (cause that's where the sensor should be, right?)... Either particles, resin or both. We should be able to clean under that screen! Maybe I'm a futur update?

Indeed, I think this is a bit of a design overlook..
It'll be interesting to see if they release any usage guidelines with the WPA as back flow from water pipes could be an issue (with resin finding its way into the guts)

Yeah, remember when I told you guys about my bro's Hopper? He was using it always upside down on an Orbiter, wasn't clearing the hit well for a long time so airflow was getting lower and lower until he did a few empty chamber hits at 5 (few is more than 20 humongous hits) that cleared it. I am sure lots of stuff stayed behind though cause he didn't avoid the cop lights and RMA in the end.

I have a feeling most of the issues are due to user error=bad design?

Speaking of bubblers and stuff. I really like this hammer style water piece. Very nice size and pretty decent flavor. Also with a piece of silicone you can use it one handed... It's 18mm - never use my condom cause it slips off easily - so get a piece of suitable tubing and rock this thing,it's pretty cheap and well worth the $:

When I first got the Grasshopper, I kept it on temp 4 pretty much all the time. I experimented with lower and higher temps at first and found I liked 4 the most, and would sometimes go over that but rarely below. As time went on I used higher temps more frequently but 4 has always been my starting point.

I got one of my favorite strains in again recently, Strawberry Headband. It has an amazing, very unique flavor. Kind of like a wild strawberry that's not quite ripe yet, but there's floral notes and a hint of diesel. It's very complex to say the least.

Last night I decided to drop my SS down to 3 on the temp dial for longer lasting flavor. I was surprised how hard it was hitting and what big clouds I was getting. I might have to start at 3 more often. I also tried starting at 1, it didn't necessarily taste any better than 3. I didn't get visible vapor but I did feel it in my throat and got some effect from it.

I load small chambers and take big hits, so I usually get three big hits per chamber, with a fourth cleanup hit. I used to do temps 4-4-4. Lately it's been more like 4-4-5 or 4-4.5-5. Now I'm thinking 3-4-5 might be best for me.

I'm usually not a temp stepper at all, the Grasshopper is pretty much the only vape I do it with. Occasionally with my Evo I will take the first hit at 10:00-12:00, and then I bump it up to 2:00 to finish the ELB. I don't do this often, just occasionally to enjoy the more tasty strains I acquire. With the Evo the hits aren't quite satisfying at that level, but with the Hopper at temp 3 I get good flavor and plenty of density and volume to my vapor.

I also am pretty much set on 4.2 or so on the temp dial and haven't tried different temps since I first got it and explored its envelope. Thanks for the good reminder to check back down at 3 or so and see if I still want to stay in the 4's.

Cheers

You just gotta try it and see if it works for you, it's impossible to guarantee you'll get a working hopper, even a 1% (pure example, HL claim less than 2%) failure rate is a guarantee that someone is going to get a failure. Luckily HL seem to have a fairly good RMA process, however there are always the few unlucky customers who have fallen through the cracks and have been mistreated (IMO).

There is also no guarantee you'll even like the vape signature, the are people who have owned the GrassHopper and sold it on as it doesn't work for you.

All I can say is:
  • the price is going up imminently
  • i've had mine for almost a year and I love it
  • it fucks you up like a punch to the head
  • it's stealthy - like really stealthy
  • swappable batteries go along way to mitigating low mAh
  • it's shocking how well this thing runs through water
  • it's going to get better with a water pipe adapter on the way and hopefully an oils front end too
  • it's versatile and in my book that makes it good value for money
  • it's easy to clean (although there is debate about material dropping down onto the heater when left in and upright position, this is a fairly new discussion though and I don't really have enough data to comment on)
Regarding the issues the GrassHopper has I'd say the largest is perception.

This has been a long running thread based on a long running tech startup.

They have finally breached the Pre-Order threshold and are amending their pricing model to better support their business model. This to me is a sign of growth that should lead to company stability. I can however only assume that the company stability results in a better production effort and smoother customer service, from what I've been reading over the last couple of months I'd say there has been considerable improvement in both areas.

Areas for improvement:
  • Shipping method - people have been complaining of the cheaper shipping method losing tracking details when leaving the states.

  • Formfactor - Some people don't like the custom sized 750mAh batteries and would prefer something like an 18650. For now that's not what the Hopper is

  • Communications - whilst improved by the use of a blog it would in my mind (and I suspect many) be a good idea for HL to get back involved with at the very least the FC community. I don't think this is going to happen, I think they'll favour their own blog as they'll be able to control the content

  • Don't talk about putting the customer first, actually do it - When a priority customer who has invested additional funds for a premium HT unit receives one without a screen get them a screen pronto and chuck in a free battery for their patience. I'd also like to see a policy where a customer receive priority treatment if they have had more than 4 or 5 RMA's in a row. It doesn't happen often but when it does, look after that customer.

Thanks for the response mang, thought about it for a couple of days and went ahead and purchased .

I followed your postings in the hydro maxx thread and did see you use glass... gh is ideal for glass, especially if you like really big clouds of dense vapor... to be honest I can not achieve such big dense vapor clouds with my sticky bricks hydro maxx dry... but this could be because of user error... got ly sticky bricks hydro maxx a week ago...

Ha yeah mang I got a bitch made throat so I def use glass like 99 % of the time with all my vapes.

Nice, I hope it fits in well with your vape preferences.

Here are a few quick tips that work well for me:
  • Fill bowl about 2/3 full
  • Medium fine grind
  • Well cured and dry material
  • The better the bud the bigger the cloud
  • Empty directly after use, if at home then while the grasshopper is still warm use a cotton swab and keep the oven running fresh
  • Clean the mouthpiece regularly, keep the airflow high
  • Check out @Ratchett's store Delta3dstudios.com, i use the following daily:
    • Funnel
    • Stand
    • Battery Caps
Hope it works out for ya, good luck bud.
