They seem totally interchangeable to me. Threaded the same, etc.
So I went on the ghl site. It doesn't say anything about interchangeability. It does say the the colored mouthpiece may not match your colored ti gh. And there's a price difference; ss is $20. All ti is $25 (plain or color).

Yeah, since I have a plain Ti and a SS, I've accidentally swapped them after cleaning. The only reason I hesitate to say 100% you should do that is that it's not always a great idea to thread one metal into another metal due to differing density/hardness/etc. I think you'll be fine, though.

And that was my concern. The risk of damaging the threads. I think this is worthy of an email to Caroline... (Just sent the email)

Is there something with metal where if you have two different metals, they corrode each other? I forgot the name of this property.

Edit: found it. Galvanic corrosion. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_corrosion
I learn so much here. I expect that's limited to certain combinations of metals.

Here comes a periodic chart conversation...

And talk about a fast reply from Caroline at ghl:

Hi There,

All Front Ends are interchangeable. This will not damage your threading or void your warranty.

My back end just got really hot on this last session. Is this a sign that my hopper is already dying? I'm so nervous. I wish I didn't know anything about it and just used it and figure that was normal.

Anyhow I got a not so great session but my battery was flashing blue lights, and the back end was hot.

I am waiting for the battery to cool down and then I'm gonna put the battery in the charger.

----

I'm also looking for that information saying that charging at 300 is better for the battery than 750 (with the Nitecore). If anyone could point me to that, I'm gonna do a search, but I figured I'd ask just in case anyone knows off the top. I found this article, whichI don't entirely believe, but gives thought.

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2683...last-slow-charging-may-not-be-the-answer.html

750ma is not very fast either though. But i'm thinking 300 may be doing more harm than good. I don't know. This is all new to me (these types of batteries, etc.)

You may want to pm @Ratchett about that. I'm pretty sure he was the one making the suggestion. And lemming that I am, I followed.

Yeah I found the post:
550mAH recharge rate is totally fine, although slower is always better for battery longevity. I always try to charge at 300mAH when I remember to switch my Nitecore (default is 500mAH)

I still haven't really seen a good reason other than it keeps the heat down, but 750ma is still slow.

A little extra info here:
The D4 will charge at 750mA with only two batteries in use. Otherwise it charges at 375mA. You can also manually select the 375mA mode.

The D2 charges at 500mA and can be manually changed to 300 mA.

So the D4 is faster than the D2 when charging two batteries, but slower when charging four.

But wait! Faster isn't always better. Li-ion batteries will last longer if charged more slowly. I find the D2's 500mA a nice balance between speed and battery life. I chose it for that reason plus it was smaller (and cheaper), and I don't really need the extra bays. By the time I can kill two batteries I could have two more recharged with the D2.

Also note to get 750mA on the D4 with two batteries one must be in bay 1 and the other in bay 2 or 3. Any other configuration will be at the lower 375mA rate.

To enable the lower charging speed on a Nitecore D2 or D4 hold mode until Low appears on the display. You will have to do this individually for each slot, every time you insert a battery.

My back end gets warm sometimes...hot other times....stays cool yet other times. I have observed that the back end (seemingly) gets hottest when I am at/near the end of a battery charge. I wouldn't swear by it....but it certainly seems to be the case. I just quit worrying about it. My battery life is fine and my GH works great.

Ok so, according to this link
http://fuckcombustion.com/resources/the-grasshopper-vaporizer-–-early-impressions.7/

The battery is rated at 750mah.

Now, in your chart, I was wondering, what is 1C mean. Cause I was like what is 1C?

According to a quick Google search
1C refers to a charge rate of 1-times the capacity of the battery. As an example, a 2000mAh Li-Po battery would be charged at 2000 milliamps, or more precisely, 2 amps. 2C—A charge rating for Li-Po battery packs. 2C refers to a charge rate of 2 times the capacity of the battery.

So, now, the battery and the Nitecore D4 will actually be a 1C at stock because 750mah = 750ma. I think that makes sense.

According to this link:
http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/charging_lithium_ion_batteries

"The advised charge rate of an Energy Cell is between 0.5C and 1C; the complete charge time is about 2–3 hours. Manufacturers of these cells recommend charging at 0.8C or less to prolong battery life. Most Power Cells can take a higher charger. Charge efficiency is about 99 percent and the cell remains cool during charge."

----

That statement would imply that charging it lower than .5C may be bad for the battery. Since 300mAh is less than .5C, I think I'm gonna stick with the stock 750mah.

------

Now I didn't mean to make this post to create controversy, I just noticed that my battery seemed to be working better when I charged it faster then when I charged it at the slow speed. I know that doesn't make any sense, and it's probably wrong. But it's placebo to me.

Also, the USB charger that is included, I wonder what that outputs at.

-------

Anyhow, I don't mean to have anyone change their charging rituals, I'm just questioning whether I'm doing more harm then good by charging slower. I know it seems weird, but the PCMag article (not that I trust them to be honest), does make some interesting points.

Sorry to quote myself here, but I had to check on what I'd documented just before I went away for a week, and I'd just seen @JoeMama 's part swap story. One hopper of mine had gone to red/blue lights of death. See post. I had pretty much parsed it down to a malfunctioning body on the SS unit, so I took out battery and put the faulty hopper back in the box for eleven days. Today I wanted to check out how to register and took another look at it. Put in a fresh battery and -- no bad lights, only red warm up then blue. Sweet! Just did a celebratory bowl.

I don't think I'm the first one with a 'self correcting problem' anecdote!

EDIT; Well, that didn't last long!
I take back the 'self correcting' remark.
Back to learning about registration ...

Thanks, Vapviking....

This is what happened here too... It works, it doesn't, the only way to spin the roulette wheel on the issue is by removing and replacing the backend... a pain in the arse... 5 out of 10 times it might work, but then it goes through the same 50/50 chance every time you have to replace the battery. Fuggetaboutit.

I think GHL is being pretty damn good about the issues that they publicize, like the flashing blues/reds as shown on their website. Less than a day and Caroline is shipping out a new body.

The combo right now of my Grey backend with my standard Ti (can we call it silver??) is working terrifically, so, phew!

I'm gonna have to send the Silver one back as soon as I get the Grey back online, and hope they don't tell me there's nothing wrong with it.... there's definitely no comparison between the two.

750ma is not very fast either though. But i'm thinking 300 may be doing more harm than good. I don't know. This is all new to me (these types of batteries, etc.)

While I'm certainly into finding this info out as well, I've also considered 750 "not very fast". That article is interesting, though, thanks.

I have no idea where I stand on this stuff, but this is some DAMN fine research you've done here.
:clap::clap::clap::clap::clap::clap:
I'd nominate this for the resource thread just because battery life is such an issue with the hopper and anything that can improve it is welcome info.

I've noticed the vape community skews a little older in age, I fondly remember MacGyver. And most seasoned vaporists have a bit of MacGyver in them. Look at all the Grasshopper mods for instance.

Absolutely, that's why I like it here so much...
And I just thought it was OCD. But it's not... It's SCIENCE!! :haw:

Get me an avocado, some tin foil and my snorkel. The hopper's running hot, brah!
Wait, wait... which side of the avocado do you jam the hopper into?

I do have a serious question; I have no experience with vapes other than a one-time Volcano hit, followed by three years of the Pax products... and now the Hopper.

I'm having hard time really discerning ABV appearance.
I've been so used to the look of a ABV from conductively heated flower, that I'm questioning my usage "ritual" with the hopper.

For this question, let's assume a single kind of herb for consistency.

• The Temp range is 3.75 to 4.2 only. I know T5 is there, but to me it's like the "11" on the amp from Spinal Tap.

• During the course of a fluffy-full chamber, when I stop seeing some kind of appreciable clouds, I'm thinking it's either the battery losing charge, or the material is getting spent.

• I don't want to keep using charged batteries on nearly-spent loads. But then I feel stupid, feeling I'm just wasting material; and then I'm compelled to start representative piles of ABV. Oy!

So, my question to the seasoned vaporists - and regarding the hopper - do you squeeze the material for all its worth and throw it out when you've reached the point you feel it's not worth the battery juice, OR

Would you choose to favor the approach of, say, a total of "75% extraction", bankrolling the ABV, and maybe use it some other way?

I'm just frustrated when I can't demonstrate consistency with the hopper, looking for how you guys and gals deal with yourselves on it.

I do one chamber and empty it. I do about two chambers per battery. Then I charge the battery.

----

Today I had the worst shit happen to me. I still live in a non-legal. Anyhow, $350 an ounce. I packed into my grasshopper. No vapor. What the fuck. Ok cloud needs to come out. Pack. No vapor!!!!! Shit had no vapor!!! I can't believe it. First time this shit happened to me. I complained greatly and am trying to give that shit back. Anyhow there is a bit more but doesn't belong in this thread.

Moral of the story, sometimes no vapor production is bullshit weed.

So I picked up a new toy today:

UcrG7Za.jpg

This beautiful recycler was created by none other than FC's own @VaPeD&CoNfUsEd at JoDa Glassworks. It turns out he's not too far away from me so I was able to pick it up at his shop. I love to support FC members, and I love to support local artists, so this was a no-brainier.

He also has a SS from VapoShop, it's the first time I've seen another Grasshopper in the wild. It was cool being able to compare them, they had a slightly different finish.

The weirdest thing happened while I was there, a huge grasshopper (the actual insect) made an appearance. I wish I would have taken a picture, it was right after we'd been discussing the Grasshopper vape.

Great rig! Loving the marbles/bumps! I really like a lot of @VaPeD&CoNfUsEd 's recent work! That guy has moved forward in such strides! Always good to see FC people making a career in this industry :D

I betcha that rig takes the edge off the hopper's mega hot whitewalls my friend :D

Uh oh, my back end was just ridiculously hot. And my battery was flashing blue even though I'm pretty sure it was a freshly charged battery. I looked for gunk. Nothing this time around. Unit still hitting like a champ. I can deal with the heat. Especially with winter coming LOL

Does the increasing heat signal failure to come?

Edit: I'm getting 3 more batteries today. To the person who told me to order more, you were right. I bow to you. I wish I was getting 30 or 300 batteries today LOL :-). And also 6 more grasshoppers for each day of the week. LOL. Oh dreams, they are lovely.

Been away from this forum for awhile due to new work commitments. However I am brought back by the failure of my much loved ti gh unit. Only had since around july 28th (ish) and was working beautifully until it combusted in @Ruta's hands (he did nothing out if the ordinary to warrant failure). Then had the infamous dreaded red blue flashing.
2 fellow fc members travelled to see me and my newest favourite battery powered toy died at the most inopportune of moments. Thankfully I had my ss unit from vapefiend to at least let him try... however this unit hasn't worked perfectly since its arrival. Very frustrating that I have spent almost half of a thousand pounds on these 2 vapes for them to be not completely functional. I am not bashing gh labs and I understand these things can and will happen but the odds on both my units breaking in such a short time space makes the whole situation for me infuriating to say the least...

Okay, I'm not as seasoned as many here and I understand your frustration/concern. I'm not one of those who tries to squeeze every last bit out of a load. I've read (and I'm sure you have too), of how some step up temps and use water tools to completely finish a load. Or transfer the abv to another device. Or save it for edibles.

The one thing I don't do is to worry about battery usage rather than finishing a load. That's why we all have extra batteries. I try to keep count of how many pulls I have in a particular load and also go by taste. Cloud production is my 3rd criteria but less than the others because if I step up temp, the clouds increase, but so does the harshness.

Maybe I SHOULD do more of a side-by-side abv comparison of fresh to spent. But I really don't. And I, like you, sometimes question what I'm seeing when I dump it out. But I think conduction baking results in darker abv.

Looking forward to others weighing in on this.

Everyone has to make their own tracks; needs, priorities, experience.
I've had both Paxs', Crafty and Mighty, been vaping a lot daily now over 3 years (40+ year combuster) and have read thousands of posts here. Each vape and every new strain seems to present a little differently.
I am also still trying to dial in the Hopper's use; really trying for a about a month now. This is complicated by using with wife about half of the time. Separate issues and questions arise there...
In some ways Hopper is simple to use, a la Pax2, and in others it's a deep dark hole full of questions -- for all of which I'm still fully committed to finding answers!
When I'm confused and need a pacifier, I still reach for Mighty; it now seems like the Rock of Gibraltar.
We are finding Hopper use with water tool very nice and I've just ordered a knockoff Pinnacle Hydratube.
So, until those wayward Keurig execs come up with a device and capsules that are fully replicate-able, we do the work much less scientifically.
I do like your question, though.
And if it's not clear here, I do love the Hopper!

Seems like we've been on a similar journey, @vapviking. I've had both pax's (and still enjoy the pax2), and a Crafty (which I still love). Those would be in my regular rotation, but I'm still on my gh honeymoon with no end in sight. I also have a ff1 (basically retired, too finicky and I hate the need to stir), and a v2 pro series 3 (for me, my one mistake and first try at a gh-like device).

So that's the depth of what I consider to be my somewhat limited experience. But it's a fun journey! I would love to try others (e.g., several logs, Zion, etc.), but they need to develop vape shops like car dealerships where you can take them for a test drive. So, is that the next big idea?
