Discontinued The Grasshopper

snorcan

Stay charged, my friends
Is the low temp hot?

I am finding temp level 2 tolerable for longer draws. I can sustain short draws on 3 with my tongue between he hopper and my throat. But hot damn even at temp 3 that steam is vapour is literally piping hot!

From what I understand of the heater, it is laser sintered which allows for previously unobtainable geometries in such a small metal design. It doesn't actually heat up beyond the temperature selected (stated by Trevor on reddit, however @paytonpenn has measured there to be a range of temps of ±20°C in the chamber).
Its complex shape allows for a large surface area, so air passing through it has the ability to reach thermal equilibrium, in turn making the entire (insulated with very high R-value material) herb chamber and its contents also share this uniform temperature.
The thing that amazes me is how, as has been mentioned before, if you turn the device on with an empty chamber and look through the two screens and heater unit, you can easily see the LED shine through.
It doesn't make visual sense to me and what they have achieved is nothing short of extraordinary.

In terms of the back end not being air tight, I think it's possible that very minimal air will be pulled from anywhere but the intake holes during normal operation due to the decreased resistance and the formation of eddy currents in the air flow as it passes through the holes.

@hi_there if you keep the button topside, you could just sandwich concentrate in with herb?
I tried this with some bag hash, definitely worked alright (got stupidly high for ages).
However, it didn't really break it down much and I used the same piece in a few bowls.
I think other methods would be best used for concentrates (dabbing, burning, conduction vape).

Using non-condense kief from a 4pc grinder was more effective than the hash in cloud production. I guess having more surface area (even though there's less material) allows for more rapid vaporisation.
The official HL concentrate adapter is apparently going to utilise conduction over convection.
With that in mind, I again don't think the GH is well suited for concentrates as we know it today.
But sure, it is nice to use them from time to time :)

And just to touch on something I brought up earlier - heat in use.
It is absolutely fine to use the device sans adapter throughout the day @ghost, @CarolKing
But, if you are using it for minutes at a time, for multiple draws (say more than 3), it will be much more enjoyable with an adapter of some sort.
The low temps are definitely cooler, but if you want the extraction power of 200+°C (T>4.5) then this will limit use to about two drags. However this will vary person to person/environment to environment.
The device cools down quite quickly too.

Compare it to a Mighty with a SG18 glass adapter and the cooling unit, you can use it either way but for direct draw, one option is going to be much more satisfying.
It really comes down to tolerance to active compounds and to heat. It's very simple to overcome either issue, and the silicone it comes with in-box does a great job.
However, compare it to a MFLB sans adapter, both put out a hot stream of air that some won't tolerate well - so extending the air path is desirable but not necessary in most cases.
The MFLB mouthpiece is great for a small adapter on either device.

Check the chamber out for yourselves.
Also glued to it, a little snap of why I like this thing so much
That's straight herb, it gets whiter with Kief

Any gh owners also own the vapcap? By my reasoning the condenser of the vapcap could be used as a gh mouthpiece extender / cooling method (with the condenser being inserted pointy end 1st into the gh silicon adaptor). I hope it fits well, but eitger way it won't be an issue for me as I have ordered mflb glass mp's in preparation for when my toy finally gets here. :)

I don't have a vapcap, but when you receive your MFLB stems, they have a diameter that's pretty much the limit of the silicone MP. It stretches a tiny bit to fit on, you could probably get away with something a little bit bigger but not by a lot.
I hear those glass stems are quite fragile, so be careful with them :)
They should work well, I have a wooden one that is pretty nice to use.

Bugger, I never thought of the wooden 1 that I have laying round somewhere... dam I think I may have come down with vaas (vaporiser accessory acquisition syndrome) to go with my vas & I haven't even got my gh yet... Yes, those vapcap stems are fragile, already broken 1 (same day it arrived) :)

I've just been informed that the "lifetime warranty" does not extend outside the US, is this correct? I'm in the UK and wouldn't be too happy if I found out I don't infact have a lifetime warranty.

Thanks

Surely that can't be the case!
By the time you've paid import duty etc it's already less of a bargain, removing the lifetime warranty would erase my remaining enthusiasm and definitely provoke me into cancelling.
SAY IT AINT SO!!!!

I bought my hopper from the UK;
My manual clearly states:
"Your Grasshopper Vaporizer carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty. This warranty covers manufacturing defects and most general "wear and tear" on the device, for the lifetime of the purchaser.
...
The owner of the device is responsible for shipping it back to us for warranty service. Any shipping charges incurred by this are the responsibility of the owner."

So, aside from having steeper postage costs, there still is lifetime warranty.
Unless the manual has changed?

@Hjalmark that piece is a Seed of Life double lace disc vapour tube. The size and dynamics work amazingly with the hopper.

This is a very good point and question, and something that I have wondered as well.

Seems (IMO) the only reason to pay such an extremely high price for the GH is due to the extreme stealth factor, which means using it dry with no mouthpiece in public places. But it seems from a lot of posts, that it might run too hot to actually use that way.

I hate to sound like a downer, (as I actually love the design, and if it functions as intended, as a stand alone stealth vape for daily use, would be my dream vape) but if it runs too hot to use frequently throughout the day without any sort of mouthpiece shield or adapter and/or water piece, then what is the point?

No hate, just constructive (hopefully) questioning...

I use mine natively 99% of the time within the silicone tip and it's great. The heat issue is a. subjective and b. even for people it bothers originally people I find either get used to it or find their technique. Remember you're only going to need 2-3 hits at a time, this thing is potent and will make you a birdhead in a 2-3 draws and it won't be too hot for most folks at that point.

Well i just checked it and the pathway from the battery to the mouthpiece isnt blocked u still draw some air from there. This kinda makes me a sad panda..

i'm not worried too much. because air is traveling trough a path with less resistance. then you need to pool super hard that air intake holes can't cope to get some battery fumes.

I can't see any documentation or terms of conditions. It looks like they only have one contact email too which is interesting. Doesn't seem like they've actually payed a lawyer to make it all legit

Sorry if I've missed this detail in previous posts...

For those that have tried the MFLB stem with the GH, has anyone tried the wooden version? Just wondering if you get the same result as with the glass as far as cooling the vapor down a bit.

glass piece is easier to clean. and you can see when it is necessary to do so.

Got my hopper back yesterday with a replaced back-end. So happy to have it back again. Timing was ok since I got my new Firefly2 while the hopper was out for repair, and so really got to know it pretty well, and although it too is pretty freaking awesome, it is not as convenient or discrete for out and about use.

My wife thinks it is funny that our two main vapes are both insects, haha.

My friend asked me the other day if I had gotten my "Cricket" yet. It took me a moment to realize he was talking about the Hopper and then it occurred to me that the two "portable vapes of the moment" are both insectsoid. How soon before we get a Mantis?

I live in the UK and bought mine from the Hopper Labs authorised stockist Vapefiend.

I've had to test out the warranty service after approx one month of ownership the heater died.

Vapefiend deal with warranty claims onsite for purchases from them.

I sent it back on a Wednesday, it was received and verified as a warranty claim by their technician on Thursday, front end replaced and sent to me on Friday for Saturday delivery.

I expected it to be a complete ballache which couldn't have been further from the truth.

Superb level of service.

does your newest edition of backed have that small gap between temperature dial ring and corpus?
