Discontinued The Grasshopper

Hopper just died completely. Now won't heat up at all. Red light comes on briefly, then shuts down. Same issue I had when it died last time. Back end started getting crazy hot a few days prior to this failure.

I'm gonna be pushing for a ti replacement. I'm not sending this thing back once every three weeks.
That's the issue my gray has right now. A good up to down bang and blow through the back end has it working for a few more hits.

Hold body with two fingers and thumb whith clip to the side now it stays cool
When I do this I'm just holding the coolest part of the hopper... but the ring still gets hot during use even when not "completing the circuit." I know because I check after I click it off, so no current can possibly be flowing through my finger at that point.

All I know is it didn't get hot at all for a few weeks...then now it gets almost half as hot as the chamber gets. I'm talking after 2 pulls native, or 1 pull through glass.

Is it true that some of the hoppers out there genuinely don't get hot backends? Caroline says it is completely normal for it to get pretty warm.

I have a green Ti FYI...

✔ Periodic check-in!
  • Blue Ti Hopper
  • Just over 2 & half weeks old
  • Driven daily through 1 to 5 loads
  • Around 3 loads per full charge
  • No noticeable hot-ass(!)

I'm really enjoying the inconspicuous portability of my little Hopper. However, I must admit that some mornings I wake up & remember having it out & about with me on the previous evenings escapades, but I don't necessarily remember getting it home. Subsequently, there have been a few mad scrambles, which have thankfully been followed by an overwhelming feeling of relief when I find the little dude safely stowed away :luv:

Clearing an entire chamber on full power, in one huge water filtered hit is extremely effective and time efficient, which I find perfect for those hurried, no messin, headin-out-tha-door type rips.

For someone who likes to be on the go, the GH has set a very high standard. So for my useage pattern, and at times when it is not conducive to reach for my other favorite portable device, the Hopper is fast becoming one of my 'vapessentials'.

Again, awesome work on the hardware, boys.

Er . . . where do I sign?

And for those of you who are hopping mad, & still waiting it out in pre-order purgatory - if my words can be of any comfort - I believe all will be forgiven :2c:

thanks for nice and artistic pictures!

two things caught my eye. fingerprints are very visible on colored Hopper :\ and that clip is very contrasting with the body. should be in same color, IMO.

keep hopping, man! i and many others will keep waiting for those bloody estimates :bang:

This is a gorgeous image.

If you'd like to assure ownership rights, here's a method from years ago in the music biz. It's likely still valid.
If you had an original song or piece of music on cassette or other media (or printout of art...). Mail it to yourself with a note enclosed saying it's 'yours', certified (registered) mail, and do not open the envelope when it arrives. If there is ever any question of ownership, you will have a dated record.

Or is it just a preset on yer iphone? ;)

Hi VegNVape,

Wow ! , that is one magnificent post, sir. Beautiful pictures, and just the right tone and flavor for the commentary. Nice. Thanx !

ps: I just checked my account for any news/updates for my titanium Grasshopper pre-order. It says that it is scheduled to ship March 2016. I can hardly wait.

My Grasshopper combusted last night...

Didn't do anything unusual, just turned it on at temp level 4 and within a couple seconds of inhaling, I heard a spark and could immediately tell the herb had combusted. Wasn't pleasant at all. Took me completely by surprise and tasted awful. Turned off the Hopper right away and emptied it out, and of course the chamber was full of ash.

Now, when I click it on, the lights turn red and the unit seems to start heating up, but it never turns to blue. It's like the heater got blown out or something.

So back to Hopper Labs it goes. I already emailed Caroline and I'm hoping to get a response back soon.

Ok just a follow up on the above: somehow I (knock on wood) returned my hopper back to day one functionality. I took the backend off and pressed on the springy area that touches the battery. My intent wasn't to fix it...just to look at that piece more closely. I really didn't want it to fly apart in my hand, so I was extra cautious. I am pretty sure the clip's ring moved just a little bit...like one millimeter...almost like it clicked into place. I'm guessing that something inside of it clicked into place, and not the actual ring. When attached the backend sits pretty flush to the body. My clip's ring is one from the batch that has a small bulbous part like we've seen in past posts.
I also wiped the *tiniest* bit of black sludge off the springy contact, inadvertently, while pushing it...and a bit off the battery end.
OH, and best of all: It also clicks louder now...noticeably louder. I'm extremely sound sensitive. I can hear a wider spectrum than most. It's is a very consistent click now, whereas when my backend was getting hot the click was MUCH softer...and fluctuated erratically. This indicates that the heating IS arcing like people have been speculating. IIRC The heater gets power via that pulsing electrical clicking sound. If that sound is muted and fluctuating in volume, it's safe to assume the heater isn't getting full power.... Blah blah blah..
You see where this is going right?

I mean it works exactly like it did for the first 2 weeks! And yes, the ring will now GET hot if I touch it, but does not by default get hot at all if i don't touch it.

I am soooo happy right now!!

@Gandalf pretty nasty taste huh? Sounds like the exact problem I had. Put in a fresh battery and the light may turn blue after 30+ seconds. The heater is still working, just not being regulated right.

Good luck with a smooth warranty experience.:sherlock:

Hey guys....so my sister wants a vaporizer and this seems to be the ultimate one...

Only question now... Steel or titanium ... if you don't have a money issue, is that titanium more than just looks and finish?

Read the past few pages of this thread. Some people with both have been weighing in on that. Seems like a pretty close call, though.

The real question is does your sister want her vape this year?;)
Titanium is supposed to stay cooler and is a lighter material, so if money is not an issue go for the titanium

I have both. If your sister just takes a few hit a day, I'd say save the $50 and the SS as for a light user, since the flavor seems to last longerthe in the SS (this seems to be the conscensus on people who have noticed a difference, you're not going to have plenty of people tell you that "there is no difference, can't be, science etc) but I've been having to say IATOADASO a bunch on this thread, so if you're asking because you're a assuming (correctly) there is a difference, trust the people who have the experience and judge which experience you think is better for your sister.

The Ti (my daily driver) is more for a cannasuer and heavy user. The terps and cannabinoids extract faster meaning in my opinion, truer more complex flavor but the downside is fewer hits (This phenomenon may be a result of the SS cooling slower as well, allowing oils to congeal back on to the flower, but I don't know, just a simple country lobbyist, not a scientist and clearly this device is some kind of alchemy anyway ;-). Since I consume a fair bit, I don't mind changing the bowl more regularly to get great flavor.

The Ti also feels better in my hand, that's subjective, some like the extra weight of the SS and that makes sense to me, just a preference.

Can't go wrong either way, I prefer the Ti myself but I could see some preferring the SS.

Regarding expected delivery, ghl is very behind on their projected delivery dates. We all hope they catch up and there won't be future lag time, but most of us have been waiting a year or longer for ours.
she will be waiting over a year I still haven't got mine yet. I ordered on aug 2015 .

#6 Hopper died yesterday. Blue lights come on immediately after pressing the on button, no heat. Just a click and right to blue. Nothing new here though, prob another bad body like the last one, or two...

I feel thankful, fortunate, & honored to have had almost a full working month with this 6th, game changing, revolutionary device. Oh boy!

Cue 'Taps'...

Hi BassVaper,

Geez, I don't know which scenario is worse: endlessly yearning to receive a Grasshopper, or playing taps for your sixth (6th !) dead Grasshopper. Look on the bright side. Grasshoppers are a great source of protein, and might be able to keep you alive for a few days, I dunno.
