Let's talk hot back ends... (not chics either).

6 warranty request vet here, the back end on the "repaired unit" I have still gets too hot to touch. I don't exaggerate when I say, it burns to the point of leaving burn welts. Sure, for the most part it's easy to avoid touching the hot clip, but there's always that inadvertent "wake up" touch that happens.

So, does anyone have one that DOESN'T get hot?

I'm on my original back end, second body. I never noticed any heat around the clip area until about a week ago. And I just hit it hard and turn it off- the mouthpiece end doesn't even have time to get hot, but now the back end does. I'm not getting blisters, but like I said, it used to not noticeably heat up at all.

SS is heating up slower that Ti. fact. physics.

so it well might be that SS model is condensing more THC oil to dee sides of that chamber and mouthpiece. as it stays cooler for longer. so it kinda preserves condensed oil for second and third hit. while Ti is getting hot quickly. which could mean less condensing and inhaling more goodies in that first and second hit. and not leaving much on those sides for a third one.

so i would assume that for a massive bong hits Ti is a way to go. while SS for doing a session.

The thing is the insulation that is located around the chamber and the in the tip has a far greater impact(order of magnitude) than the thin metal shell on the outside. I still stand by my opinion that there should be no appreciable difference between the two when it comes to extraction & taste. It is likely that the SS & Ti units that are being compared are not identically calibrated.

@zymos nice pick up. The sad this is that they may have written this email in early March and was going to send it out at the beginning of March. Or its is a cookie cutter email that they will just send out over the next few months.

I use this setup too, and it cools so, so well. Vapor is still really dry though...

this!
I swear my backend didn't get hot for the first couple weeks, and now it gets *nearly* as hot as the chamber. Caroline said it's supposed to get warm and I can send it in if I think something's wrong with it.
It still works well though, and the battery doesn't get warm during use...so...I don't know what to do.

yes, but insulation is not keeping 100% heat inside. right? otherwise body and mouthpiece wouldn't get hot at all. so if a heat is getting trough, then it is most likely important what kind of material is around it.

This is my hypothesis as well. The difference in cool down allows the SS to congeal more reclaim (oil) for the next hit.

Hi moondog,

Alas, I am still doing penance in pre-order purgatory. I thought it would be funny if I pranked myself on April Fools Day by pretending I actually possessed my titanium Grasshopper. Hahaha. Real funny, I am. My account still says ship date of March 2016. Shit.

:myday:
D'oh.

Ya know, I guess I should have listened to them in school when they said that there would indeed be a day when I would need to know how to read a calendar.

Wow, this vape looks cool. I've been wanting a discrete pen type vape for flowers since I started vaping 5 years ago. This could be the one.

Seems like people are having to return a lot of units and there are still some kinks to work out though. I want to wait to order one until most of the kinks are worked out, but I wonder if I do that the price of the ti version might be up to 300 by then, lol. Seems every time I check the site, the price has gone up again. Last I check the site a couple months ago, the price had gone from around 180 or so up to 200. I checked again a couple days ago and its up to 225 now.

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this one... :)

I'm loving kief in this thing.
Bloody ripper.

My Ti hoppers’ stainless ring gets hot during and after use, but not as hot as the front end.

I've had it for a few weeks now, and I'm still yet to clean it. I have given it a few wipe overs with a MFLB brush, but I have started to notice that more herb is sticking in the chamber now from resin build-up.
I'll have to go get some isopropyl alcohol and some cotton dabbers.
Overall, it's super easy to maintain and my two weeks of frequent use have proved to be almost completely consistent despite absolute minimal effort.

So far I have put almost a half ounce of a few different types of cannabis flowers into it, gotten either too high or perfectly buzzed via their extracted goodies and removed them to receive even af, super crispy and tanned/blasted to the level selected AVB.
I have found that, in order to get really dark AVB, you need to work for it a bit. After a few bubblers in milk city, it's still possible to get a good rip from it natively. However, even when caching at that point it still is a very economic device for herbage consumption. You gotta waste it to taste it, they say.

If anyone was wondering, it does leave waterpipes a little messy - smaller particles make it through the screens and a thin layer of reclaim forms in the glass downstem after a few chambers. But simple enough to clean, of course.

On taste, I have a Ti and I gotta say, it's flavour experience is pretty on point to those comparing device signatures. I won't be getting an SS, so I may never know the difference, but I can imagine that it's flavour possibly would last a bit longer. My Ti unit is more often coupled with a bubbler for longer extraction, high-temp purposes. But I still really appreciate using it as designed. When doing so, the raw flavour tapers fairly rapidly and the taste of AVB is quickly noted. It's a nice blend still, but that first clean draw at T<2.5 is genuinely phenomenal. If the SS prolongs that, then for non bong smashers, maybe that's the best option?
But the bongs at T2 with a fruit strain? Well, that fucks combustion pretty aggressively anyway.
Plus I like to say that it's titanium, because, who doesn't love titanium?
The extra durability is worth it for me above all else though, I want it to stay super sleek - the SS hopper in the 'red light flashing' grasshopper YouTube video posted above... What happened to its body D:

Hopper just died completely. Now won't heat up at all. Red light comes on briefly, then shuts down. Same issue I had when it died last time. Back end started getting crazy hot a few days prior to this failure.

I'm gonna be pushing for a ti replacement. I'm not sending this thing back once every three weeks.

My back end was getting real hot
And it was confusing me because the battery was staying cool then I read a post
How Caroline said you can create a current with your hands so I looked at my grip style (holding in a fist grip)
Hopper doesn't like this I changed my grip style to this

Hold body with two fingers and thumb whith clip to the side now it stays cool
Crazy thug is this info is in the manual check out the scratch of the guy tacking a hit
Yep that's the way hopper likes to be handled right there

So I really know nothing about metal composition, but I know SS and Ti have different but similar thermal properties. Do they conduct electricity differently?

I've had my GH for 4 weeks now and it's been the only unit I have used. I was a big fan of the Mighty previously but that has not seen the light of day since.

1st off GH favour is superb, I usually start on setting 4 and rarely ever notch it up the clouds are dense. The unit does get v hot it is easy to overheat it but you can avoid that once you learn how to use it. I don't bother pairing it with a WT but I know a lot of people prefer it that way.

I picked up two extra batteries and I use a nitecore charger to keep them charged - I had a few issues early on with the stock charger so opted for an external as I hear that is much safer.

I find I get 2-3 chambers per battery so 3 batts is more than enough to last me all day - I would definitely recommend spares!

A truly great device!

lol probably the most honest Hopper review so far. :) the guy is not just telling how good is this and how good is that about Hopper. he also tell what he think about estimated shipping dates.
That is charming and high-larious. What's interesting to me is that if his review was the first thing I ever saw about the hopper I would probably never give it a second look. And yet, even though we here all know that everything he says is true, I am still here waiting for and obsessing on this unit.

Is there anything more pitiful than a tech-geek with VAS?

Don’t attack products or companies. You've been warned about this in the past. Warning point issued.
Don't look at Reddit often, and have never been a member but from what i have seen you must really go off the deep end to get banned. Damn!

Reddit is just a terrible terrible place. I deleted my account there for a reason. That being said, you can't help but agree with the guy. Too many people are defending HL, using crowdfunding as an excuse, and HL continues to lie and screw people over. It's an amazing product but the company itself can't really be trusted at this point. That's why I'm phasing out my grasshopper and trying something new, because I don't want to have to rely on a company that so blatantly lies to it's customers. It's a shame. Like I said, it's an amazing product, but the people behind it make me not want to use it.

@MoltenTiger How do you put keif in this thing? I have not gotten mine, but from what I read so far the grind of bud should not be too fine or else it would fall through the holes which acts like a screen. Unless you have a sandwich of bud and keif
