Discontinued The Grasshopper

if you buy on ebay you better check with hopper co. first. they mite not give you the warranty.

Exactly the case, unless the seller bought the retailer kit from the idiegogo campaign. Warranty is non-transferable, and only valid under the initial purchasers account.

That's what it says in the manual anyway

Agree, be very careful about seller/authenticity and check with manufacturer if there is any question.

Maybe the manual is being or has been revised. A few weeks ago I inquired about adding a couple of Hoppers to my (Aug '15) pre-order (for gifting) and was told that yes, there "will be" a system in place whereby the recipient of the gift would be able to register using code numbers from the vape and the box, and so, enjoy the lifetime warranty. No re-assignment of the warranty will be allowed after that registration. Based on that I pulled the trigger. I'm so excited that they might all be here in a matter of days! [NOT]

With the changing landscape around a new product/company/roll-out it becomes even more important to be assured your vape is genuine, and in the case of this vape having the warranty will be essential.

Hi vapviking,

I totally agree with your thoughts about "purchasing through proper channels". All too often, when a popular product reaches the marketplace, the counterfeiters go into hyperdrive to produce cheap imitations, which they sell online as the genuine product. Case in point: the original Firefly was released in December 2013, and it was only a matter of months before counterfeit clones were being offered for sale on eBay. Be wary. Be legitimate. Buy your Grasshopper from the source. "Don't shoot yourself in the foot with your own gun," as my pappy used to say.

if you order now you might get it in may of 2017 from the co. I purchased mine on aug. 2015 and haven;t received it yet
I would estimate that July / August 2016 would be a fair and rational estimate for new orders.

for those who can't wait for a Hopper i dearly suggest to get a FocusVape. cheap (around $100), very portable and heats up in 20 sec!!!! this is amazing for a conduction vape with ceramic chamber. i ordered one and will have it soon. :) while Hopper still is not seen on a horizon for my Nov 2015 pre-order.

RONG!

only the case for Hoppers from the indiegogo campaign. All pre-ordered and later Hoppers come with tags that you use to make an account on the GH site. So if those are included and not compromised, you're good.

Let's talk hot back ends... (not chics either).

6 warranty request vet here, the back end on the "repaired unit" I have still gets too hot to touch. I don't exaggerate when I say, it burns to the point of leaving burn welts. Sure, for the most part it's easy to avoid touching the hot clip, but there's always that inadvertent "wake up" touch that happens.

So, does anyone have one that DOESN'T get hot?

Still waiting on word that they even received my unit. They claimed a 1-2 day turnaround once they get it for warranty.

It's OK, I'm used to waiting! :freak:

In the meantime I hooked up a new seed order with some new blues and sours to run through the hopper.

Mine doesn't, although I've only had it for 4 days. I've been using it on 4 & 5 through a water pipe most of the time, and the backend is still fine to handle. I got mine from VapeFiend, as an afterthought I wonder if (hope) they upped the QC for an international retailer's order to avoid headaches down the line...

Sounds like you've moved on to "lucky" #7. Hope you get a perfect one after this warranty claim!

I wrote them about it when I got it a couple weeks ago, since I had gotten it back from being repaired. Paraphrasing their reply, 'we tested it, worked fine for us, thanks though'.

I don't plan to send it in. I did write them again yesterday. I hope they'll just send a new back end out for replacement. Then I can send this one back.

Hello Guys
My first post but longtime Lurker of FC.
Ok. I have had the joy of owning a GH for just under a fortnight and I am most happy with the performance and results I have gotten just from normal mouth inhalation without the silicon adapter. ( bit warm but no problem)
But I have noticed the rear end getting hot. Not burning hot just hot to touch. The heat build up is just by the shirt clip, I have contacted GH and their reply is as follows.

Hi There,

The Grasshopper works best with a strong, firm draw. I use mine through a water pipe and take a hard draw. Don't worry about being gentle, the Hopper can keep up.

If your Back End is getting scolding hot, you may have something else going on with your unit. The Back End and rest of your Hopper will get warm with use, but should not be burning hot. If you feel your Back End is getting too hot, you should log in to your account on GHVape.com and fill out a Warranty Request Form.

Best,
Caroline

After this email I kind of think it is nothing to worry about for me but if it is scalding I would be filling out a warranty form.

Thanks

Hi Quetzalcoatl,

Thanx for providing the Bubbleman video. I really like this guy's style. He is articulate, adequately focused on the aspects of the Grasshopper that matter to him, and I don't believe that I have seen a vaporizer review in a more spectacular setting than this. Schwennnnnnnngggggggg ! He is now my co-favorite vape reviewer, alongside Vape Critic. Our community is very fortunate to have them on our "team".

Similar experience, reported, also had bad charger, sent everything in (warranty #4) and wound up w new battery and charger but same backend. Mine is an SS so I wonder if availability played a part as they replaced my first backend after the same report?

New charger (which I had to pay for because I'd shortened the cord) has died (lived 1.25 weeks) so warranty #5 as soon as I get around to it (external charging works). Assuming my backend will fail someday but as long as I can get a couple bowls per charge I'll just keep it till preorders are taken care of, so I can get the latest parts.

hi folks.

I see this is still an ongoing drama for a lot of ppl. Same here. It took me a few months to actually get around to sending my hopper back, they replaced the whole unit apparently (internally I guess, the housing came back the same but with a new back end). The back end no longer gets quite as hot, but its still way too hot to hold comfortably, as if the heat has just been turned down ever so slightly. I messaged Caroline, got a very similar reply to everyone here, except now they just want me to send the whole unit back again, and havent offered a new back end. The back end only gets hot if I hold it in a way that makes the circuit connect.

Blah blah blah :)

The hoppers performance is still flawless tho so I'll keep on using it for now.

I also got sick of the draw resistance so now I squeeze some flower down to a size just small enough to slide in the bowl barely touching the sides. I dont bother grinding any more. Very little difference in performance over here.

By design, there is no heater in the back-end of the vaporizer. There should technically be no *heat* produced through normal operation of the vaporizer.

If your backend is hot, there is an electrical short - electricity is arcing between two spots and it is generating heat outside normal parameters. In my book the part is defective and needs to be repaired/replaced immediately. I would suggest you stop using the vaporizer until you get it repaired. Moreover I would remove the battery from the vape to stop the short from occurring and draining/kiling the battery.

I had a titanium GH for several weeks, not once during the entire time of *heavy* use did the backend become "hot" - moreover I never once noticed any heat being produced by my loaner GH.

I am not a GH employee, but I am an engineer at heart. The *only* place you should feel the heat is from the air intake holes and towards the mouthpiece. I personally would STOP using any GH which is producing heat from the backend.

i found that video funny. :) the bubble-guy was knocking Hopper on table pretty hard and was blowing into chamber to get ABV out. don't know about knocking, but blowing particles into heating element is no good for sure. very noticeable that he didn't wait not even one year for Hopper to arrive. but it's all good! he promised to test it hard and report any breakdown.
