Discontinued The Grasshopper

Just received my hopper from its 7th or 8th warranty claim. I finally received the updated back end. Not nearly as smooth as the other dials I have had, feels grainy. Also noticed a bigger gap between the dial and clip compared to others. Gonna be a lot easier to get unwanted debris in there. Maybe thats just how the new clips are?

That gap between the dial and clip may cause some problems. When I had that gap on mine, I would often get flashing red lights when clicking on the Hopper that would go away if I turned it off and on again. Seems like if the back-end isn't screwed on flush it can cause some sort of connection issue.

I fixed the problem by applying a bit more force and getting the back-end to screw on so that the dial was sitting flush with the clip. Once I did this, the intermittent red lights frequency dropped significantly. I still get it maybe once in every 10-15 clicks, but this is much better than the 1/3 that was occurring before.

Hi Vapking,

I have no misconceptions, misgivings, or misinformation regarding the marvelous magic of mucilage,
however, having been employed as a finish (not Finnish, as I am norwegian) carpenter, all it takes, from a more socially acceptable source, is a gentle digital stroking of a common bar of soap, such digit then lovingly caresses the threads (both male & female. DUH.) depositing somewhere between a skosh and a smidgeon of soap residue. Let the threading begin !

Wait, are you suggesting putting soap on the threads?

Hi Vapking,

What I am saying is to apply a very thin film of soap residue to the metal threads. It disappoints me somewhat that the terms "skosh" & "smidgeon" are not a common component of the current lexicon. Alas,

:myday:
Lmao, I could've googled it but I figured I'd let you explain haha. By the way, it's Hi, or high, vapetrees lol

I haven't received my GH yet but I own a Pax 2 and it's been very good so far. Heat up fast as needed 35 sec and bowls big enough for fun with friends. Still I wait with all things crossed 10x over for this pen to just get here! #ManThatWaitsToWaitSomeMore :o

I keep a small bar of soap in my tool box, one of those hotel size in a little box, for the same reason you describe. ;)
Without compunction, for certain applications I will go to the nasal sebum (never the mucilage!) if it's the only thing available.

Hey Micro welcome to the forums. The GH has a long waiting list. Just keep that in mind.

I'm in the same boat, as an international buyer, postage is something I don't want to have to worry about.
However, neither is servicing my car, but similarly it's always a potential cost.
My experience with my retail hopper has been flawless, except my charger became tempromental after some use (and after it made some crazy noises after plugging into a 2.1A USB adapter in a 12V car-lighter socket).

The warranty response was good however, and I'm hopeful this will be a painless fix.
For now an external charger is keeping me hopping, and I'm agreeing with others in saying this is the better way to go - more so with multiple batteries though.

In terms of other potential problems? It genuinely seems very well built and robust. My Ti has had a few tumbles so far, and I haven't really been worried about it after.
Performance has remained consistent with its first use, however allowing for 10 seconds of heat up is ample for fluctuations due to weather/ambient temp.

I have enjoyed this device so much this last week, I'll happily pay any ongoing fees to keep it operational.

I have no experience with the Alfa, however it also looks like a cool little device.
If you are wanting to own a portable vape before mid-year, then there's no competition between the two - the GH is vaporware for the time-being. But it is the best vaporware ever for sure.

Thanks you for reply ! Waiting time is not a problem . Im planing to buy it May/June and Gh is going to Eu market (vaposhop / vapefiend ). But Im little bit worried about reliability , because I read some threads on reddit about guys sending their units for repair 7-8 times and that is unaceptable for me . Same reason why I dont want to buy crafty . Gh is amazing device for sure , but if it breaks every 2 weeks it will be pain to own that thing.

The wait is likely more than 2 months from now (but who knows...I hope I'm wrong). And it seems like the delays are mostly demand greater than supply. Ghl is a startup and is still working out the bugs for "mass" production. The defect rate seems to be dropping, but we don't have real stats on that.

The wait is definitely due to demand outpacing supply ... by a lot which is good news for anyone worried if GHL is gonna be around, they recently hired more staff but assembling a GH here in Boulder takes about an hour per unit and the pre-orders just keep coming. Having had a grasshopper since July I think it's worth the wait Pre-Grasshopper, vaping was a novelty for me, now it's my prefeered consumption method.

I've bought other vapes, as in the same way moving to Boulder a place I knew I wanted to call home inspired me to travel more, the GH made me curious about other vapes. I have a Firefly, pax2, Elo, mivape and vivape2 desktop, all of which have some limited role in my life but 9 out of 10 I use my grasshopper, you just can't beat that start up time, effect from one or two hits and great flavor!

Not to mention you can use the GH ANYWHERE! One backfire of legalization in Colorado is that nobody used to care of you smoke cannabis, now everywhere cares. I've gotten a lot bolder using the GH in public and it's really great for that discrete public toke.

This is very interesting and something I hadn't thought about. Is it because the law is that you can't use cannabis in public (even if vaped) or is it that cannabis use is now treated like tobacco use in terms of second-hand smoke?

GH-related content: Even though I just got approved for my medical marijuana card, the Rx is "only" for oil, so I still can't wait for my GH for the carefully-regulated dosage of herbal relief.

Hi Micro,

Welcome to the forum. Along with useful informational exchanges, there is the inevitable VAS-induced anxiety element regarding lack of possession from those of us in pre-order purgatory. As for current model reliability, it seems that there are fewer and fewer issues related to reliability, as reported from those here which have real-world experience. Enjoy !

First, I think the Grasshopper is awesome for medical users since it is ready to deliver medicine so fast!

The oil-only laws are something we have to be careful off. It sounds like progress but using public health (smoking) as a cover, it leads away from "plant" medicine towards patentable "process" based medicine, which opens to big pharma.

Along those lines and to answer your first question, the recent maltreatment of cannabis consumers in public is reflexive. The hospitality industry who's lobby is largely compromised of national/international corporate members are against Cannabis for a variety of politically motivated reasons, however also don't want new competitors -read cannabis hospitality businesses.

As a result, in just the toxic soup you would expect, Big-Hospitality is teaming up with Big-Law Enforcement. The claim, (which is solid, but a cover for the underlying Prohibitionist position) is that if you have a liquor license, you are liable for you patrons under strict liability and their insurance covers you being all kinds of drunk but it doesn't cover you having consumed cannabis and ya know .... all that crazy shit high people do ....

So it's irrational and politically motivated but there has been a backlash, Representative Jonathan Singer will be introducing a public use bill here soon so stay tuned!

High Vapetrees,

I have a vocabulary barrel which is chock full of anachronisms, and sometimes I forget to keep a lid on it. For example: "Slipperier than deer guts on a doorknob" is my favorite way to describe how goldurnn slippery something is. If you have ever experienced this then you know exactly what I am talking about. Duh. Turbo duh. Ultra/Mega DUH. However, when I work it into the conversation, some of the looks I get would curdle milk.
