Discontinued The Grasshopper

Has anyone received a SS case yet to post their impressions? Worth the $$? I ordered one with my extra batteries, hoping it wasn't a un-needed purchase

They don't exist. You'd think it was a pretty simple thing, compared to the vape itself. They mentioned months ago that their design wasn't working out, I think it was causing scratches on the vape so they needed to redesign it.

Did you order it a long time ago? They shouldn't be taking money for something that doesn't yet exist.
Oh wait, forgot who I was talking about....

Back to the Grasshopper Vaporizer...

Not my oldest battery, but the second oldest is not lasting 1 full chamber. I will charge it in the Nitecore i4, pop it in the Grasshopper and rip... and after about 30-45 seconds (consecutive or not), the battery dies. The only 1 of 4 that does it, and I treated this one relatively better than my oldest battery, which is still lasting (albeit barely) 2 chambers.

Otherwise the unit is going strong. I've e-mailed HL about my battery, among other things, and I got a response from Caroline this morning, all things that we know already - Batteries aren't covered under warranty, be careful using external chargers.

Think of HL as if it were going through a really really long Black Friday. They'll catch up, but for now can we keep the conversation about the *vaporizer* and not the company that makes it? I don't really care about business speculation on a vaporizer forum. Thanks.

John Kasich for the save! Let's Elevape the level of this discourse. Shit wrong thread for that pun.

2. business intentions to get pre-order money that could float the company while they tried to fix QC issues and optimize production and shipping

I have mentioned this before, it seems they ended up with two poor choices:

Be 100% transparent and go bust, not even providing the backers with a product. Or, do business the way they have, with a carrot dangling two months ahead for the past 18 months and hope they can stay afloat long enough to fix the problems and then hopefully salvage their reputation.

Those are two poor choices I guess, perhaps they took the less of two evils?

I think that these still aren't coming off of the "assembly line" very smoothly, to say the least. Their plans all seem to revolve around ramping up production, but that hasn't happened yet -- at least not reliably.

They have been saying this every 15 days for a year and a half. Their transparency along this journey leaves a lot to be desired.

Wow, that was a painful catchup read.
Was it me or were a whole bunch of posts deleted by admins? (Edit: they were all moved)

Anyway.....
I saw this on Instasham:
IZRyTOr.jpg

It looks like vapefiend is getting retail units very very soon (unless they are lying to their retailers too).

Which is both promising and disappointing in my opinion...

Very promising because it looks like they are shipping out units to retailers, which means they probably feel most problems have been worked out (or they are doubling down?).

Disappointing because it seems they preferenced a retailer, over long standing preorders. I understand retailers will be more important to them, but it feels like a bit of kick in the guts to people who have been waiting for so long and effectively invested in their business.

Overall I'm pretty sure it's a good indication things are on track (provided they aren't lying to their retailers as well).

However, Vapefiend is taking advantage of the lack of supply and charging like a wounded bull.
£199 for SS (not Ti)
~$290usd!

At that price I'll wait for my preorder thanks.

Yes, a whole bunch of posts were moved to a separate thread, bc they were about how to run HL, which were consider off topic.

The link below that I posted earlier was also moved for some reason (probably just pick a large grouping of posts and this was included), but here it is again, which says March 2016 for £199: https://www.vapefiend.co.uk/grasshopper-vaporizer.html

I think retailers have a right to charge a little more, due to needing to pay for shipping, company costs, etc.Really vapefiend could charge a lot more...one eBayer (link was on Reddit) with a retail pack is selling units with a buy it now price around $450 or so. I think £199 with the demand of this unit is pretty reasonable for a retailer.

I have no actual clue as to the GH pricing structure outside of the backers and pre-orders and I know nothing about Vapefiend's business practices, but maybe he's not taking advantage of lack of supply. Maybe $290 is going to be the retail cost of the GH everywhere.

It kind of makes sense that the retail price will be higher. As good as the GH reportedly is (when it works), $290 doesn't seem all THAT out of line. Like you, I'm happy to wait for my pre-order.

Here's a thought, if $290 is revealed as the retail price, will that spark a rush of more pre-orders? I know I've been thinking about adding an additional unit to my pre-order. (Please don't hit me. I haven't actually done it.)

I could be wrong, but I was under the impression that the only retailers that are getting units ahead of pre-orders are the retailers that purchased the indiegogo retailer kit(s). When I was in Denver last year they mentioned they were going to complete all IGG customer backers, then the IGG Retailer kits, then the pre-orders.

Tangential, but the blue and purple (especially the purple) are looking more like variations on gray, and I recall reading at least one GH owner reporting as such. Is this how they appear IRL? Is the purple more like purple-gray and very subdued? And is the actual dark gray a brownish gray? Do we know if the anodized coloring is consistent?

Yeah, the purple is on the grey side. I think I actually like it more than if it had been more purplish.

Yeah, I want a gray GH, not a purple one, just wondering if the purple is a better gray than the one being called gray, which also looks brown. I'm sure I'm overthinking/complicating this choice (already switched from regular Ti to DG).

I went through the same phase. Took me several weeks to decide on a colour due to poor website photos.

The photos on the website do not represent exactly how yours will look. Also lighting and fingerprints also change the look.

Have a look at other posters photos for a more accurate idea.

Here is some photos that helped me decide on "dark grey"

After a closer look, I'm not even sure what's happening in this photo. From the bottom, I see what looks like one dark gray, then blue, then green, then what looks like bronze (are these actually the gray?), then what looks like a different bronze, then purple, then not sure about the ones in the back -- more green?

I use a few different cameras to take photos (dslr at home, cell phone on the go) between the different cameras and the different lighting the color on my blue ti unit looks quite a bit different. Here are a few photos so you can see the difference: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 and a video. Sometimes it looks more baby blue, and in different lighting it looks a lot darker.

Hey @BuzzDanklin,
When are we going to get the official full length video review of the GH?

@Gandalf Really well so far, it picks up fingerprints better than it does scratches surprisingly

@DirtD1V3R It will be done in a couple weeks hopefully. The weather has not cooperated one bit lately, every time the sun pokes out and I get my gear down to the beach to film the outdoor shots (all that is left to film) the clouds cover it up again. It looks like there are 3 promising days for sun in the 10day forecast *fingers crossed*

Wow, I love the blue when it looks really blue, like when it's pictured with the batteries, and in the snow.

I'm thinking about making a order on their website but since there is so mutch tallk about delayed delivery I don't feel secure enough to do it.

From website: Estimated ship date April 2016

Thoughts and suggestions about this?

There's another thread where this is discussed further, but that date is pretty optimistic. Read through the thread and this one to see what's been said before--quite a lot.

Wow... this is so messed up.. what the heck tho.. that's what happens when you're on the waiting list for one of the most portable, powerful and discrete vapes (maybe even the best so far).
I have to admit though, HL customer service is above average by far. I sent an email to Caroline the other day asking some info about delivery and whether the estimate for delivery is accurate or not, and voila!! There was a reply within 2 days, like in the beginning that I just wanted to update my order with the actual city that I live at. She confirmed that despite all the load of work they have they still believe that their estimate, which is March '16, is for real and unless there is something that will hold them back they will meet their time frame. Until they're proven wrong, they have my faith and good will with them! :peace::leaf:
