Discontinued The Grasshopper

I received my grasshopper maybe 3 or 4 weeks ago, I ordered from indiegogo on 12/10/13. Mine has been working with no problems so far. With that said I haven't been keeping up with this thread too much, but thought I'd give my opinion on my unit.

The features I enjoy most about the grasshopper are price point, size/portability, heat up time and overall form factor. If I am running out to do some quick errands the grasshopper has been my go to vape.

Some of the downsides are vapor quality, terrible battery life, the mouth piece can get hot and the flavor falls off quickly. I am not impressed with vapor quality especially after I saw people comparing it to the EVO. In my opinion both my EVO and Zion beta kill the grasshopper as far as vapor quality goes it's not even close.

I get better results with nugs rather than grinding my herb because it seems to clog the mouthpiece when ground. I have yet to try it though water since for me the grasshopper is purely for on the go when I need something that fits in my pocket. If I am in my car I prefer my Zion beta, the vapor quality is just so much better and more pleasant.

Overall it is a pretty cool little vape and has a purpose in my collection, not sure it was worth the 2 year wait. The battery life and vapor quality are really the two biggest downsides for me, I can barely get 3 full chambers on 1 charge. Comparing that to my Zion beta which I can't even keep track of how many stems I get on a fresh set of batteries because I get so many.

Thanks for the review.

Are you saying vapor quality is much worse dry? Have you compared say the EVO & GH both through the same water piece?

I can use it on 4 without water pretty comfortably and get massive clouds. I have a pretty sensitive throat too, its just a matter of getting the draw speed right :)

edit: Cant comment on the Evo dry as Ive never tried it, I do find the GH hit (using the same weedstar 15 perc bubbler) superior through water though!

I have not tried the GH through water maybe I'll give it a try later today, but I can tell you that is much worse vapor quality than my Zion beta dry. It is harsher and you have to pull much harder to produce clouds which irritates the back of my throat. While this could probably be improved by adding water that kind of defeats the purpose of this portable device for me. If I want to go to the trouble of using water I'd much prefer to use my EVO or Zion.

What temp setting are you using? If between 3.5-5 and you're not getting big clouds you may have a unit running on the cool side. Try turning it up to 4 & 5 and see what you get. Draw slow and very lightly. Please report back.

Do you own an EVO?

I just used the same ground herb through the same hydratube with my EVO fully heat soaked at a little over half way on the dial and its night and day. I used the grasshopper at 3-5 on the dial and it is just way hasher the clouds are good but not nearly as dense as the EVO. The draw is super constricted and i feel way more out of breath after I am done. Like I said in my previous post the vapor quality is still not nearly as good as my EVO or Zion beta even through water.

It burns the crap out of my mouth on 5 I don't think I got a cold unit. I can definitely get clouds that's not the problem, it's just the quality of the vapor is not as smooth as my other vapes.

i think taste is OK, better than most other conduction vapes, and yes, quality of vape also depend on how strong draws you make

I use it dry 95% of the time. 2.5 is my preference. 3 can start to produce the ass taste if you go too long on a load. Under 3 I've yet to experience any bad flavor. It's really nice there. Top it off with a little spoon tip of kief. Flavorville.

Evo is just a little less harsh, but very similar. I think the extra length really helps it. I've used the Grasshopper with the EVO's glass mouthpiece (not the waterpipe), and just like when I used my Air stems, the vapor production was very good. Much cooler, taste was very good, all around just a benefit from longer vapor path.

@Smoke1ForMe Have you been packing the chamber? The Grasshopper shouldn't be loaded like an EZ-Load bowl. Rarely do you want more than half full chambers for the Grasshopper. If you're having draw resistance, this is the first thing that comes to mind. My Grasshopper gets thicker clouds on 5 than the EVO does at a roughly equivalent temperature, but EZ-Loads last a little longer than the GH.

Try 1-3 pinches (no more!) and then killing the chamber in 2-4 hits. First two hits should be wonderful, last two less tasty but lots of vapor on 5. Draw resistance is definitely affected by how it's packed. Glad to see you got your Hopper :) Hope it comes to convert you too ;)

I use my GH dry and on settings 2-4, sometimes 5 but its usually fine if you have the chamber packed well enough and you take slower, shorter inhalations so it never gets super hot or uncomfortable. You just gotta change the way you inhale if its too hot or if your not getting enough vapor.......

Love it!

basically you're saying use the GH like you'd smoke a cigar or joint correct?

Lol it's like training yourself all over again. at least you don't have to teach your buddies (who are using a vape for the very time) how to take long slow drags off of it.

Wow. The Pax2 is the least interesting vape I own. Just hoping the GH will exceed jaded expectations.

I'll tell you why I think the pax2 is less interesting: It's the difference between 5 second and 90 second ready times. Technically I think my crafty is the best vape I own but the least used ultimately because of ready time.

My experience with the grasshopper so far is that it's hot as hades in terms of the vapor. It can be more flavorful at 1-2 setting. Anything after that really makes it taste like circuit board qweefs!

I wonder if the taste gets better as you use it? Or is it that the taste is just there to stay? My Pax2 tastes really good if I only use it on setting 1 and 2, and when you go up it in temp it gets harsher and loses flavor but It's tolerable. I hope the GH doesn't taste like circuit board. For as long as we've all been waiting it shouldn't taste that way. A lot of users have mentioned that the GH has some of the best tasting vapor so I'm worried. Does any one else agree that it tastes like circuit board qweefs?

I've commented on how crazy tasty this vape is and it is in so long as you stay under 3 IMO. The first 3 tokes to me on the grasshopper are on par, if not better than the first 3 tokes on the pax2 or crafty ESPECIALLY GIVEN ITS READY TIME. Anything after the first 3 tokes above temp setting 3 is really hot and very harsh. The taste/heat of vapor is subpar compared to pax2 and crafty AFTER the first 3 tokes, hope that makes sense and is helpful.

Still glad I don't have to worry about the taste of the vapour ruining the vape experience for me. Though with the speed of the Hopper even if it did taste bad to me I imagine I'd still end up grabbing it before anything else.

That's exactly how I feel about it. Luckily it tastes amazing for the first few tokes. After that it degrades faster than the pax2 and crafty. So it really is a trade off one should consider. If the tip of the vape and vapor could be cooler that would make this a portable vape killer IMO.

I would guess this is because the GH extracts the terpines & actives much quicker than the other vapes you listed.

Maybe, although if I put the pax2 at the highest setting it's the same kind of issue, namely the popcorn taste comes about after 3 tokes too. I just think it's the nature of vaporizing.

As an aside: what is making the GH my go to is I don't even have to grind. I just pinch material right off the bud into chamber and I'd argue that tastes as good if not better than grinding. So what we have here is the overall fastest vape I've experienced.

My apologies if someone has addressed this but can you link me to any carrying cases for both the GH and material that is easy to load on the go?

Are you using it as a session vape (e.g. Sit down and finish a bowl dry in 10mins).
Or are you just using it for a hit with cool down periods in between (e.g. >1 minute breaks in between hits)?

I'm trying to ascertain if waiting between hits will let the tip cool down and perhaps the vapor slightly too.

Good question. I'm a "maintainence toker" 2-3 tokes here, 2-3 tokes there. I'm not a session toker at all so you'll be surprise to hear this fucker gets hot fast. No way to explain it any other way. So within 2-3 tokes it hella hot on the lips and the vapor is really hot. It's bearable but if they could nexgen this with a cool mouthpiece without the need to condom it that'd be great!
