So have we got a count of people who have received and use their Grasshopper frequently as a daily driver that haven't had their unit fail yet?

I have had high hopes for this product, but am I going to be able to buy one in 2016 that will work reliably, without issues? The prospects on this seem unclear/not all that favorable at this juncture!

I'm still on my first GH. Received in August. So that's basically 5 months as a daily driver. I barely use any of my other vapes now. I keep seeing failure reports everywhere, so I won't be surprised if mine suddenly fails at some point. But for now, I'm all good!

Two things that might be making a difference for me... I use an external charger, and I always click off a few seconds before the end of my draw. My GH never really gets very hot, because I'm pulling cool air through it at the end of every draw.

Standard Titanium or Dark Grey, which would be more stealthy?

Originally I thought Dark Grey would be more stealthy, because of the matt colour and the fact it does not reflect light, however it may draw more attention when viewed up close.

Standard Titanium may be more shiny, but looks more like a pen. If it were sitting on a table it would surely draw less attention...

But, it looks so much like a pen that if it's just sitting on a desk, I don't think color will matter much. It looks plenty stealthy enough as is. It didn't feel so stealthy when in use, but that's pretty obvious. Maybe a dark one would be better when in use because, as you said, you may not see it as much.

I've had both mine without a problem, my SS since early June and a TI a bit later but I have also tested others before June without any problems. GHL is going to smooth out the wrinkles, they know they have something special and if they gave up, some other company would pick up the design and make $$$ because its killer. The GH isn't perfect but it's definitely a game changer.

Either way, I think the GH is worth the issues if you happen to have any because it's one of, if not the greatest portable vaporizers ever! Considering it's size, fast heat up, metal construction, simple design, full temps, convection heat, great flavor, great extractions, magnetic charger, use while charging etc.....

hi @Just Justin, i think it is possible with something thin as a sewing needle but with a lille angle of 2-3 mm, but most of time a needle will break when trying to make an angle, because they are mostly made of 'hardened steel'. maybe a piece that is about 50 mm long from thin, straight, spring-wire, you make a 90-120° angle on the end of it (50X2-3 mm, like a L-shape) i did not try to remove it again, i will try on my previous, not working, hopper-body, maybe i find a good 'tool' and will report about, one of the next days.

maybe a thin crochet hook can do? if L shape is a must, then take a metal file and get rid of that hook a bit.

Just as a reference point - are you using the vape dry, or through water? Share with friends or usually by yourself?

I noticed the Titanium hopper I used got REALLY hot when running through water. I'm wondering if that's doing any damage?

Using it dry, only by myself. I stumbled on a dry vapor cooling solution for the 4.5 - 5 hits that works really well for me. I use the silicone tip and put it into the bowl of a Lotus stem. I can feel the aluminum stem heating up in my hand, pulling away all the heat from the vapor.

I keep the Lotus stem and the GH in separate pockets to avoid scratching.

As for my GH status, I'm on my 2nd body. Received original GH around September, worked a few times then died. Received the new body and it's been my daily driver ever since. Haven't used any other vapes.

Thank you for that report. Do you ever feel like the body of your hopper get's warm (not the mouthpiece and not the clicker switch, just the middle section).

I'm starting to think if the vape doesn't fail immediately due to a production issue, the vape appears to live longer if you don't use it regularly through water (possibly overheating the vape?). But that's just a guess

i'm guessing that GH electronics are getting F*-up by the use of their magnetic charger. that is why i'm gonna use external charge only. and yes, overheating also can do a damage. guys already pointed out that you should keep drawing a bit of cold air to cool it down after every hit.

Closer to the heater it does get warm during use, but not abnormally warm IMO, and it cools down right away after finishing a draw. I also have never had the hot back end issue, around that area is always cool. I have a Ti model if that makes any difference.

That would indeed be fucked up if their supplied and recommended equipment was doing that....

all i know is that magnetic field doesn't do any good for electronics. and i'm not willing to take any risks. as i live in Europe and back-shipping to US cost something.

there are bad, good and excellent electronics. i don't know which one GH have inside. but those hot back ends sounds like an electronic failure. because mechanical one would show up immediately, not after a few weeks of use. IMO

Magnets can erase data and mess up a CRT, but in general are not harmful to electronics- in fact, many components ARE magnetic.

I'd agree here. Not disagreeing with the charger being an issue theory, but with the way the device is designed and used (multiple clicking on and off, wide temp range fluctuation in short periods of time) I feel like there's going to be quicker degradation.

Both the ones I was using started out fine and after two weeks (first one) and then a week (second one) they crapped out.

My solution to this, buy more than one.

The first one started out getting warm at the back end. Over time it kept getting hotter, to the point of almost pain. Then the lights would act crazy, (blinking red fully charged, shutting off right after turning on, etc...). It still worked but the hot back end got unbearable plus the clicker started to loosen. When I reached out to HL they told me to send it back for assessment. But it worked.

The second one didn't get hot at all at first. Then started mimicking the first one, then died for good.

i am with @Bass Vaper on the fact that it is more with clicking the on/off and twisting the dial, that with time the backend can get broken, i had that problem with my first backend and i am 90% sure it was from mechanical usure, because i never used the original charging cable, i use an external charger from the beginning on, in the time my backend broke apart, also the hopper body began to turn strange (lightshows happening and burnt herbs/nonstop heating) and, like i said, i never used the original charging cable...
i am not saying that there is no possible relation between hopper problems and charging cable, but i can not report about it,,,
by the way, my hopper now works as it should and i am able to get about 4-5 bowls of around 0,1gr per bowl, out of one batteryload, i did not test all of my 7 batterys already, but the three i'm using now are all about the same charge when in use,,,mostly i start on 3,5-4 for some draws and then i go up to 4,5-5 for the rest, the drawing sensor seems to work fine, because i have the feeling i make a lot of draws (more then 18 seconds), and then i click it off, rarely it shuts down by itself,( only if i just draw very soflty and only do one or two draws then it shuts of after 18 secs, but i only did this for testing), usely i draw slowly with a litlle force and wait about 3-5 secs between each draw and then it works like i previously described,,,(hope it makes any sense:-))
anyway, i love my hopper,,,:-)

I only used the charger cable, (no external) and it got used A LOT.

That's probably why both of the clickers started feeling like they were coming apart.

I guess I'll buy an external charger, but honestly am hesitant to do so. I like keeping things as 'out of the box' as possible, no aftermarket additions. I'm a pussy, I know.

Interesting. Mine gets hot to the touch all over the back - clip, top, all that. But, it still works and still performs well. I'm quite impressed at how well it handles concentrate wrapped into some cotton. Plus you can pre-pack little cotton balls and be good for the day =)

I don't know, I'm kinda digging the grey. It actually doesn't look too bad, although it would look a lot better if the clip was the same colour...
