Discontinued The Grasshopper

@grokit I see that there is something inside the holes, but I cant make out what it is, and definitely can't get a photo of it.

Also worth noting, the area in question is the fresh air inlet, this is where the fresh air goes in on its way to the heater. But what @puckerbutt mentions could be true, if @baltik was blowing the heated air backwards through the unit, maybe something is being heated that isn't normally/supposed to be?

I'm excited to get the two I ordered, but I'm glad I kept my expectations in check. I'm also a positive, laid back dude but so far we've heard 'harsh vapor', 'hot mouthpiece', 'ten minute battery life', 'off gassing', 'wires', 'new vape flavor'.... I mean, it sounds like a typical vaporizer. It does appear to be very well made, sleek, convenient / stealthy, well crafted, but when you get down to performance it appears to be pretty standard, average (aside from the robust heater).

Still not seeing that Pinnacle Pro ever getting put to rest

The kid in me is definitely ready to hook the GH up to the hydro tube though, that's fo sho.

I'll be disappointed if all we're getting is a SS/Ti PnP.

Forgive me if i'm wrong but where do you think the air from the 'air intake' goes? It passes through the heater. If he's blowing his breath through the air intake, moist air is going thru the heater which is then passed through the chamber, which is empty in his case.
Sounds plausible that maybe it's just moisture, couldn't it be verified if @baltik would try running dry air through it instead of breath?

Well after a few more burn off sessions and a ISO Qtip swab there does not appear to be any off gassing and I went ahead and loaded it up. My daily driver is the enano through a bubbler so I am coming off one of the better tasting desktop vapes that is being water cooled. My initial reaction is that I was getting great production and having on demand vapor is a very cool and new experience. Flavor was fine - I'd say not quite as good as the solo but not really far behind either. The vapor and the tip do get hot so if you know you are sensitive to hot vapor this may not be the vape for you. Having said that I think for the majority of the population it's very workable especially with a modified technique (taking breaks between hits to cool down) not a huge deal given how quickly this thing produces vapor. I think we are conditioned to hit vapes repeatedly since we are so used to having a finite session time as well as conduction vapes actively deteriorating the plant material; both are non issues with the grasshopper. If you are looking for a party vape where you can quickly pass it to a bunch of people the grasshopper may be suboptimal despite the portability.

To clarify a few prior points:
I am blowing into the intake holes so the direction of vapor is exactly the same as if I was inhaling. I don't believe moisture to be an issue either since the off-gassing went away

On the wires - honestly I have no idea I can sort of make out a silhouette of a thin bent piece so could be something else

Interesting - I did check mine under a very bright desk lamp for offgassing when I first got it, and there was nothing. Perhaps there was some residue from unit testing on yours?

Either way, I noticed the Stainless is susceptible to imperfections (scratches/dents). I plan on keeping mine in a leather sleeve/case I have (for a Pulse echo smartpen I no longer use). I can't comment on the titanium as I don't have it yet but perhaps it's stronger. That said, I think stainless steel is relatively easy to polish/buff anyway so it's not a big deal. Battle scars ftw...

Two strange observations I've made so far: 1. The unit makes a very faint clicking sound when it's on (you can only hear it when you put your ear right up to it). 2. Do not store the unit with metal objects! I noticed the lights (and presumably heater) can turn on if you make contact between the button and the body (you can do this by touching a coin to the back end). I'm bringing this one up to Trevor - I'd imagine it's not shorting out or anything, but the circuit is completed turning the heater on. If this is the case, I'd suggest either a silicone cover for the back button or storing the pen in a case/sleeve. Probably a good idea anyway to save it from scratches.

EDIT: Trevor just responded to me regarding the metal contact; the unit is smart enough to detect this and does *not* heat up. Don't worry about it!

Some more terrible phone pics (better than nothing for now I suppose).

We all have different sensitivities to harsh or hot vapor. Some of the hotter running vaporizers I have to set on a very low temp so I don't get a wide range of temps unless I use water filtration. Precise temps vary depending on the length of the air path. If the oven and the mouthpiece are too close to one another such as the Pinnacle Pro I have a problem because of the heat and harshness. For me it's been trial and error, and a costly one.

What one person may feel could be different for someone else.
EDIT
I appreciate all the early adopters, they are the FC GH Beta Team.

This seems like a pretty big deal if in fact it's a design related issue and not just a problem with your unit.

Are you sure the heater is turning on? Are you feeling heat when you hold a coin to the back end? Because the lights come on to indicate charge status when the charger is connected to the back of the pen, without turning on the heater.

The false on is a bit worrisome.

Here's a picture I just took - this is how I discovered it (accidentally). I store it in a small eyeglasses case, but have an airtight capsule filled with ground herb I usually bring.

I noticed the lights flash differently when I make contact this way ; perhaps the device detects it and doesn't actually heat (maybe it thinks it's connected to a charger? I think it was flashing red/blue). Regardless, the auto-off feature prevents the unit from staying on for too long, so I don't think there's a risk of overheating or anything this way (as some of us here have learned by accidentally shorting MFLB batteries).

I kiiiinda wish I just waited for the magnetic chargers, as they'll have them this month...but on the upside I have my hopper can confirm, it's the real deal.

I personally don't find the metal-to-button false on too worrisome. It's probably not often this contact would happen anyway. It would be nice to know if the heater turns on too or not, because it's very possible it's trying to receive a charge. And if you're still that worried you can always just remove the battery. Just my thoughts.

@midgetsanchez I just tested your findings and both of my hoppers light up when I touch a quarter connecting the body to the tip of the button. Quite an interesting find, I wonder if mine has been doing this in my pocket as I have carried it with metal objects multiple times.

Can you verify that it's just the lights as if it were receiving a charge, or is the heater turning on as well? It makes sense that the heater wouldn't turn on because I imagine there's a switch that needs pressed with the button, but just to be sure for the thread's sake.

Already got a reply from trevor on my email about your finding @midgetsanchez
Hi Buzz,

The lights will come on but the heater will not run. The software knows this is happening and will not allow the heater to run. The lights will go off after a short time on production units. This is harmless and will not hurt the device. This will also not happen in the stainless steel case.

Here is an interesting trick, if you take the silicon mouthpiece and place it on the back of your Grasshopper when not it use, it's not only a great place to store it but it also makes the button harder to accidentally get pushed on and also stops any metal from shorting across there.

Best,
Trevor

Edit: Took a quick picture with the mouthpiece on the back:

awesome! now if trevor would just get the off-gassing and the wire thing explained...
as for the heat of the mouthpiece and vapor, nobody so far (buzz, his roommate, midgetsanchez, baltik, the dispensary people, the two stoner chicks) have said that the heat was a deal breaker. It's something we may have to contend with, but the other benefits and features of the hopper seem to outweigh it. At least that's how i'm reading it.

Yup. It would only really be uncomfortable for extended group sessions - at which point the mouthpiece would come in handy.

Also, I've just done some empty runs on max temp while blowing into the intake holes - no offgassing. Checking under a very bright light too.

I've noticed that the chamber is very easy to clean; nothing seems to really "stick" to the insides so far, and I've just been using a small brush to clean it between bowls (my Crafty brush, actually). I was able to use a Q-tip in iso to clean it like new in seconds.

Something I've observed (and appreciate) is that the unit detects that you're drawing it (and does not auto-off while in use, like my Crafty does with it's 60-second shutoff -_-)
