It's not very far back in this thread so obviously you didn't look everywhere...i've owned both...I prefer the 2011 cuz the single digit temp increases annoyed me. I think it's more a marketing thing.

thanks for the fast reply. I am actually going back into the thread now. Seeing the whole melted piece by the heater concerns me now

I have been looking everywhere to see whats the difference between the 2011 and 2012? As well as how can you tell the difference?

I am looking at both of these and was wondering if these are 2011 or 2012: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Arizer-Extr...ultDomain_0&hash=item41689a4dce#ht_1251wt_954

IIRC the latest update has a black finish on the shell. This unit looks like the previous version.

I presume you know that you can buy a new warranted unit for about the same as that used unit on eBay.

Yeah for I'm gonna buy it from an official dealer so I can get the warranty because for $20 more I rather be safe then sorry. Only thing is that melting plastic. I'm gonna sleep on it wether I pull the trigger or not.

I'm still loving my Extreme Q. It's awesome. I'd do it. You can still get it for $155. I messed up. I spent $239. But still feel its worth it. If I had $500 I'd get the VapeXhale Cloud. That's my next one :-).

I think the verdict was that that piece was not plastic but in fact some kind of metal alloy that doesn't produce any harmful fumes when degraded (like those pics) but only when it has been combusted, which should not be possible. Also keep in mind that many people on this forum have heavily modded their EQ's and have used them for long periods of time. Mods like the screen mod pull extra heat from the ceramic and heat the inside of the device past engineered standards. All in all its really up to you but based on that information I feel fine using mine.

@ Oldie

You said something about slightly making your cyclone screen concave? Just to get it straight with the cyclone bowl sitting in the EQ with the black on the top does your screen in the middle look like a bowl or a bubble? And does doing this really make it better? Assuming its the bowl shape the herbs will be sitting in it and so the air should hit the bottom most part and go up through all the herbs, but wouldn't the air travel through path of least resistance and go around the bottom of the bowl to the sides and then just go through from there missing a large amount of the herb?

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum and vaping. I just bought an Extreme Q off amazon, will be my first time ever vaping when get it. I've been reading this thread since I saw it on google. I'm overall excited about getting the Q, but I have a couple concerns that were discussed earlier in the thread.

I want to get a silicon tube because of the higher temperature rating. Can you guys link me to an inexpensive but good one that will fit the Q?

Also, I'm pretty nervous about breaking the glass elbow after reading how fragile it is. Any tips on how not to break it when separating it from the tube, etc?

This stuff works great. Fits the Q perfectly and is easy to manipulate.

I've never broken an elbow, so I don't think that they are all that fragile.

I don't know about the tubing, however for the elbow, just be careful with this, all of mine broke from falling or trying to get tubing off. If you are going to take the tubing off make sure the tubing is warm so that it will be easier thus less stress on the elbow. If you follow those two things you should be fine, but when you don't it is not forgiving :p

Hopefully someone can help you out with tubing I think there may be a thread in another part of this forum, but I am not sure were.

I have broken 3, however I am clumsy

Also one cyclone bowl instead of 2 and I think no remote? The fan isn't just for bags either. Get the eq.

I think I'm just gonna order it. Gotta get a little system to not fill up my room with odors as I live with other people lol

I'm a klutz, I've broken two. One froze to the cyclone bowl and I brke it trying to separate them. The other, I don't recall, I think I dropped it on my kitchen floor. It has ceramic tile, which is death to glass. I wouldn't call them fragile, though.

As you indicated, manipulating silicone tubing is much easier than trying to remove the PVC that comes with the EQ. It's softer and is actually easy to pull off. You can clean it with ISO too.

Hmmm, I was trying to remove the glass from the tubing at one point but couldn't get it. So I just left it. Is it recommended to change the tubing that comes with the Extreme Q to that silicon tubing you recommended? And how often do you need to change it? And you shouldn't be cleaning that tubing with ISO?

I don't much get it what you're asking. If you can damage the unit by disassembly? Only if you loose pieces or try to pull the guts out before disconnecting the power and data cables. Oh and when/if you put the glas cover back, position the lip at the bottom into the hole in the big black support base or it could crack when you screw it back tight. In other words, the lip on the glass heater cover has a place there, you can't put it back randomly. The assembly is easy, just follow precisely this video:

At 1:35 you can see the piece under the ceramic between the wires that go in. He doesn't take it out, it's heater cover replacing tutorial.

I think I'll cal that support piece EQ's appendix. It's useless and sometimes it hurts.
First time opening up my Q and I'm having some problems unplugging the Data Ribbon Cable at 1:34 as shown in that video. I have a different model then the one used in the video(I think mine is newer) and once the screws are off and I've unplugged the locking plug wire I thought I could pull the heater up a bit to make it easier to get the Data Ribbon Cable like the video does at 1:06. I can't seem to pull the heater up though even with the screws out and locking plug wire off. Trying to be careful and I wanna get that Mica piece out ASAP. Am I doing something wrong?

Gonna upload a pic when I can.

Here's a pic of my base- http://imgur.com/KmQ7v

As you can see my base is different than the videos, should I be able to get that Data Ribbon Cable by now or is there something I have to detach still? I can't get a good grip on in with my fingers currently, maybe a pliers I guess but I don't wanna snap the plastic.

Just unplug that power cable on the left and you should be able to pull the core out with decent force. Only these 6 screws and power cable and ribbon cable have to be unplugged before pulling it out.

Just to make things clear, the screen mod doesn't create more heat or make anything hotter except your herb. Temps are the same, there's just more surface area to conduct the heat to the air.

Just combusted on 230. Never happened that low. But I will not go there anymore. I pulled super slowly. And then the bubbler milked. Disgusting. I have a taste of death in my mouth. Have to clean everything. EQ can combust in big style if you set it high enough and draw slowly.

I just got my Extreme Q on Tuesday. Still haven't messed with the bags, or elbow packing, just regular cyclone bowl. I've been ranging my temps from 190 C to 215C. A little afraid to go higher. I start at 190 and do 5 degree increments :-)

I just worry I'm not going high enough on the temp scale but I don't want combustion :-)

Just to be clear, herb shouldn't combust at 260 no matter how hard you pull. I'm not saying I don't believe what seek said, I believe him fully, but that is because I've seen a lot of videos and pics of the mods he has done and honestly he made a beast out of the EQ. I'm actually a little surprised he hasn't combusted his herb before. But for users like us who just use the EQ in a standard way, there's the rarest of chances that your herb will combust with it even at max temp.

Your temp scale seems fine to me as well. I start at 175 myself and go up 5 degrees in the beginning and then by 10 towards the end and usually end up between 200 and 215. But that's only what is good for me. Everybody has different preferences with vapes so if you feel like your not going high enough for your pleasure just try going higher next time as see how you like it.

Finally, try elbow packing. Its super easy to do and you can also keep your temperatures lower if you wanted to.

@ seek
I'm not sure how far back a video of your mod and demonstration of the kind of hits you get out of it is, but you might want to link it to show the recent group of EQers how crazy your shit is. Those are some HUGE vape hits your able to achieve there. Makes me a little jealous but the standard EQ is doing just fine for me at the moment. :)

My mods are simple to do. Screen mod can be done is minutes. inverze hit is just method doable with any EQ modded or regular and bowl mod can be done in 5 minutes with 1 cyclone and 1 dome screen. That combined makes the EQ beast. I think my EQ hasn't got any hotter by any of that mod, but efficiency of heat transfer into herbs increased. So with 230 and really slow pull I could tranfer so much of that 230 into herbs it combusted them. It was not the first time, I've combusted once on 260 before. Also charred to black ash-like remains in one hit once on 240 before it was modded in any way. There it's easy to combust at any pull speed just because of the screen mod.

Screen mod increases heat mass, but not temp. It's powerful at slow pulls, but fast are stronger too. How to do: Remove screen on the heater, put some clean screen there around the white ceramic, put the protecting screen back.

Cyclone bowl mod is of two types: One is to grind the hole in the cyclone bowl to bigger radius do a domed screen fits tight. This is very universal load-size bowl. Great for elbow-pack sized bowls, but also good for huge bowls a bit bigger than cyclone bowl. The domed screen pack is a bit more uniform at heat distribution. Cyclone bowls hit great when inverse hitted and modded bowls especially. Second type of this mod is to shape a domed screen so it fits into small hole without need for grinding. It will make an efficient powerful bowl for ultra small loads.

Inverse hitting is filling a cyclone bowl, modded or regular, normally, but instead of putting it on EQ, put EQ on the cyclone bowl, so the heat will go down directly to herbs (with this hitting, herbs are near the heater, but still not touching if its not ultra full). The place whip or bubbler on the bottom and pull. After pulling, disconnect it. Inverse hitting is a bit clumsy as the EQ is held upside down, but provides better hits and enabled high draw speed.
